- The weather is about to turn much colder but just how cold will it become and where will we see snow? Met Office Meteorologist Aidan McGivern takes a closer look.
The Beast from the East - I remember it well. That week, by Wednesday, saw maximum temperatures well below freezing. We were on top of the Cairngorm mountain on the Monday - blue skies and around -7 degrees. We were taking layers off on the summit, with the sun beating down on us.
On the Wednesday, me and my mate and two others we met, ventured up Meall a' Bhuachaille - a Corbett in Scotland. It was literally a white-out, with temperatures of around minus 10 degrees Celsius and a wind chill of about minus 20c. We hardly could see one another as we ventured to the summit.
It was an awesome experience.
This was early afternoon, on the Wednesday.
The water in my back pack was partially frozen, when we arrived back to the youth hostel we were staying at later in the day.
It was a week to remember for a lifetime.

Convenient timing, I'll have my mountain bike with studded tyres fixed over the weekend so should be able to deal with the local icy roads next week.
I hope South East gets a lot haven't had a full layer of snow since 2013

I wouldn't say unusually cold - it was unusually cold back in 2010 when we hit minus 18 - although this is really damn exciting - I have watched nothing but weather forecasts this week loving it - come on snow !!!

You can see on the maps the warm air surging to greenland and the artic (in yellow) splitting through the arctic while cold air plunges south. Shocking and not normal.
Was working outside in a tee-shirt up here in Shetland yesterday afternoon. Not so today. That wind is starting to feel quite bitter.
Not sure that counts, Shetland weather is always four seasons in one day in my experience! :)

Why is 2018 weather forecast popping up in my recommendations... I thought it was a current forecast but this us last year's beast from the east on the way.. Note to self check the dates in future before watching..
If the Met office is saying it's going to be cold then it's likely to be bitter. They always understate.

Unfortunately in Grimsby there is going to be no snow but cold
might be an idea to highlight the uk on the globe map. just so we can see where we are. unusually cold? is it not late February? is it not the hight of winter? ooo one or two flakes in the east.
-15c windchill at midday is unusually cold. Had over 1ft of snow in many places and you don’t get that every single winter
They say this every year snow cold etc but nothing happens especially here in Norfolk so I'm taking this with a pinch of salt ATM

Any excuse to promote the heliocentric model of where we live. Just one question if this magic ball is spinning at over a thousand miles per hour West to east how fast does the wind have to be to travel East to West just a thought. Since most clouds these days are made by airplanes leaving huge trails that linger and merge, how does that fit in to the weather model? (No conspiracy just fact)
You got a credible source? No, no you haven't and that's definitely a fact.
my source is simply looking up mate, and for the past ten years or so the sky has more con-trails or chem-trails than any other time in my memory, and they do indeed spread out and fill the entire sky until the sun is completely covered. ive seen it, you have seen it, everyones seen it. clouds hardly pay a part in it.

i believe the misunderstanding is yours Mr Arski, my credible source is my eyes. you seem to think i was implying that clouds are being deliberately made by airplanes, i merely state that the abundance of trails become clouds.
