Despite everything on this list; the most heartwarming moment from "The Late Late Show with James Corden" is when James gave a rather heartfelt monologue on the show about how he as a dad was absolutely horrified and grief-stricken over the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Stating that as a dad he can't imagine how on a school day after he dropped off his kids at school and kissed them goodbye that he would then get a phone call informing him that one or both of his kids were the victims of a school shooting. The shooting at Robb Elementary School was the third time in my life that I have cried over the deaths of young children. The first time was when I got the news that twenty children were murdered by a deranged madman at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14th, 2012 and the second time was when I heard that seven children lost their lives at Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, Oklahoma following a violent and destructive EF5 tornado that hit Moore on May 20th, 2013.
@JoAnna Edssay Even though it was a writer for the monologue; James Corden spoke from his heart following this tragedy. I'm certain that a lot of moms and dads with children who were the same age as the victims in Newtown and Uvalde would express agreement with James.
I don't get it. Everyone seemed to put him on some kind of pedestal after the "OK-ish" Gavin and Stacey, most of everything he's done has been shit and mindless drivel pumped to the masses. He almost acts like he's earned the right to be really arrogant and annoying when he really hasn't. EDIT: God, that clip from G&S where they go "Make friends make friends never ever break friends, if you do I'll flush you down the loo and that will be the end of you...." sounds like something a couple of 8 year old kids would say to each other, and that's meant to be funny?? OK then lol.
@joannaedssay5988 Someone still gave him his own Late Show and Carpool Karaoke etc after G&S. That's what confuses me. Clearly a lot of idiots liked him for that to happen. World's gone mad.
@joannaedssay5988 Yes I'm Uk. Somerset born and bred here... They probably just showed viewing figures etc for G&S to some execs, a couple of half funny clips which Americans in the room lapped up. I find British people are often trendy in America without even meaning to. And so many ideas get tried over there, it makes sense they'd try people as well as ideas. I bet they'd like Mrs Brown's Boys as well. They tend to struggle with the wittier, more sarcastic comedy and roll with the slapstick, obvious, in your face comedy. Compare The UK Office with the US one or even go back to Steptoe & Son vs Sanford & Son. The simplistic almost childlike US humour comes in very fast, and they milk it for all it's worth. Using The Office as an example again. UK version, 2 series and a Xmas special, US version.....9 seasons, some with over 20 eps in.
@joannaedssay5988 Oh Edinburgh? Well we should be comparing it to Still Game then lol, another great show. But "that's plenty"...Sorry I assume ALL Scottish ppl have watched Still Game.... yeah US and UK humour completely different. Banging on about The Office again, but 1st episode, pretty much word for word the UK one. Surprised it even made it...Get to season 2/3 onwards, it's much better, I loved it after the awkward start. As a Ricky Gervais fan, it's it's own thing. The relationship between Jim and Pam will get to Tim and Dawn levels and go even deeper, Dwight aka Gareth's devotion and crazy "military" quirks go on, it's just worth the ride tbh.
I don't mind James Corden. I do feel like his fails are given way more attention than his successes. He's a human being just like the rest of us. Sometimes he's a bit of a goon.
I know what you mean but then how do you justify him going out of his way to ensure his writers get paid less? For someone who lives a life of luxury to have the audacity to say his much lower paid writers earn too much is the biggest douchebag move you could do. Obviously you're entitled to your opinion tho.
Huh? "Sometimes" he's a goon? Then explain why UK don't want him. And it's been going for years until to this day. Brits themselves are so happy when Corden moved to US.
I'm not a big fan of the guys'comedy and presentation though he clearly has talent and charisma. But the guy can't catch a break, damned if you do damned if you don't. People are ready to hate him no matter what he does. So he can't win regardless.
Talent and charisma are you deaf as well as blind this prick has absolutely no talent whatsoever a product of tedious shit ant dec the list is endless burn them all
Just because a man has a beard doesn't mean he's straight. Most don't care what his "orientation" is. Corden alienated many, but that doesn't mean he lacks talent. Too many of us conflate humiliation and humility. May his move help him find humility and perspective. May we ALL find that in our lives.
i'm no fan of corden, but to single him out as a straight man playing a gay character, he certainly hasn't been the only one. Stanley Tucci, Nathan Lane and Robin Williams spring to mind, along with Richard E Grant, Guy Pierce, Jake Gylenhall, Heath Ledger, and many, many more.
I haven't seen the film Prom but he personally shouldn't criticized for taking a role. It should be the studios job to cast a gay actor in the first place. You are expecting him to turn down probably millions when no one else would do the same. The rest are all his fault though especially the Patrick Stewart beef
He's rude and confrontational, and has an ego the size of Texas. He was involved in a lot back in the UK, and I suspect that he's as welcome as Harry back home.
I'm so sick of the lgbtq community getting mad at actors getting roles that portray gay or lesbian characters and the actor that playing them might not be actually gay or lesbian. Who cares the bigger picture is that you have a character that is either gay or lesbian and they are on the big screen and it's bigger than just the actor playing it if the fact that now you have that character on the big screen went 20 years ago it would never happen also they even complain about Catwoman Ruby Rose l she's lesbian or bisexual I believe they complain she wasn't lesbian enough for the role like what does that even mean you have a lesbian or bisexual lady actress that's part of the community and you guys are complaining saying she isn't gay enough!? Like it was one thing to complain about straight actors playing a role but now complaining and attacking their own community members for still meeting their unrealistic expectations. And I understand trying to get a gay or lesbian actor to play a gay or lesbian character but newsflash sometimes you hire the best actor for the job! Have you thought maybe that gay or lesbian actor or actress wasn't talented or a good enough actor for the role? So they went with the ladder, like come on if you're trying to make a great movie or just a movie period you hire the best for the job. You hire who will give you the best performance and best chance at winning awards that can still produce an accurate adaptation of the story you're trying to tell. You hire the Best Director you can that meets or thats within the budget, best casting, actors Etc you go for the best. You want the best to make it best film. You don't hire someone that might not be up to par or standard to just fit a narrative to possible appease a community happy. When regardless the standards are apparently unreachable and there will be backlash no matter what, because ultimately there will be complaints no matter what. Ruby Rose ffs got death threats and backlash and hate by LGBTQ members for not being gay enough!!!!??? Like come on!? Again big picture! You're at a time n place in 2022 where Catwoman is able to be Lesbian on TV!! THATS FUCKIN HUGE!!!! AND THE 1ST THOUGHT AND IMPRESSIONS IS SHE ISN'T GAY ENOUGH!!!!!???? YOU'RE SHOOTING YOURSELF IN YOUR OWN FOOT!!! DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY MIGHT TRY IT AGAIN, FROM ALL THE NEGATIVE BACKLASH THAT A BISEXUAL WOMAN OR LESBIAN WOMAN GOT THE 1ST TIME ROUND!? LIKE HOW CAN THEY EVER SATISFY A GROUP, WHEN THEY CASTED A LESBIAN WOMAN TO PLAY A LESBIAN CHARACTER AND IT STILL WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH OR GAY ENOUGH FOR THE COMMUNITY!? Do you see how they might be discouraged to attempt that again??? Like for once stop and think of the bigger picture and the fuckin HUGE WIN THAT IS THAT A LESBIAN WOMAN IS PLAYING A LESBIAN CHARACTER SUPER HERO ON FUCKIN TELEVISION!!! YOU ALL FOUGHT SO HARD FOR THAT MOMENT AND YOU THREATENED THE ACTRESS AND COMPLAINED SHE WASN'T GAY ENOUGH!!???? FFS get the priorities in order. And take the win! IM SORRY FOR RANTING. IM SORRY IF IM OFENDING. Please feel free to educate me further on the topic if you disagree. But a big name celebrity like James Corden playing a gay character is a win! And why not thank him for trying, and giving a voice and opening that door to other actors and embrace them for accepting the role and give gay men or lesbian women a platform on the big screen. Like if you just jump down their throat you are limiting a actor to act. They are ACTING. Maybe now another big name might not want to portray a similar role from the backlash he got. And then less will and then you go end up taking steps backwards where once again no gay or lesbian characters on tv or the big screen and you have to fight again to get them back. Sometimes the best actor is the right choice. Its acting. For the Tupac biopic would you have a actor thats identical to Tupac but a terrible actor portray him? No its an injustice to his name and legacy so maybe you take the actor that doesnt look spot on, but will do justice to Tupac and who he was. This is the problem with today. For example, we have jobs that have to have diversity and hire X amount of certain races to appease a quota. So now instead of hiring the fuckin best firefighter or the fkn best NAVY SEAL you hire someone not as qualified not as good not the best person for the job but hire them for their skin color. That seems inadequately races altogether. IT'S OK TO HIRE THE BEST and have someone upset because it doesn't meet their personal opinions or beliefs or have their expectations satisfied. If you're about to die would want the best doctor, or surgeon saving your life? Or would you be ok with a doctor or surgeon working on you, that was hired to meet a diversity quotas, but isn't anywhere near the best for the job and its a coin toss on if you live or not. Can we please make it normal again to hire the best. Question, how would you feel knowing you got accepted into a great college. The college of your dreams but find out you got accepted not because of grades not because of your smarts, work, knowledge, education, scores. But simply because they needed a African American or Hispanic person for their diversity goal. And then you find out someone that scored higher, was more knowledgeable then you, someone that was more qualified, better educated, smarter, more hard working, didn't get in because of you, because of your skin. Isn't that inadvertently racists. That whole idea and program? Look up louder with crowder. He goes to a college campus to touch on this topic. That diversity programs are racist. Im done. Im sorry for the rant. For anyone that read it all. You have every right to think believe or challenge me on anything. I welcome the conversation. Its not about right or wrong. Now n days, you can't disagree with ppl. They hate n attack you if u do. So i will not and conversations are great for society
I know right? Gay people didn't lose their shit over Stanley Tucci portraying a gay character in the 2006 film adaptation of "The Devil Wears Prada" even though in real life Stanley is straight.
The thing that pissed me off the most was when he had the black show worker on his show talking about white privilege trying to guilt trip views talking about judging people on skin colour when then was doing exactly that judging white people.
I remember he was playing Spill Your Guts with someone and James was asked to name several crew members or eat something gross. He couldn’t name a single crew member. Said something along the lines of “It’s a different crew!” but I lost whatever little respect I had for him in that moment.
Not everyone would act like a spoiled brat. Seems like you're living under a rock. Corden himself admitted that he has misbehavior issues. No wonder Brits are so happy when Corden left UK. Hahaha I think every moment in his career has made people upset I feel bad for saying this, but I am living for your constant videos regarding James. I mean, how can someone be so universally disliked
Unless they don't leave when the lights change, they've been doing that for a long time. That's the whole point. Perform during the red light and leave when it turns. Why are people suddenly taking offence to that, they really want to hate him, even for the weirdest reasons!
I didn't like him either. Especially after he defended Britney Spears "She is a baby!!" She was no baby, she was in her late 20's. Yet he had no problem picking on Amy Winehouse, who was younger than Britney.
I will agree to stop it, except when he tries to, or shows up in projects I am excited for; I can ignore his existence for the most part though (like most repugnant individuals).
I didn’t like his character in Gavin and Stacey he seemed jealous that Gav was happily married to Stacey and didn’t seem to think their honeymoon was a honeymoon he said it’s just a holiday and how dare he make light of a sexual predator hope he’s staying in America for good Xx
I agree Kate. I loved Gavin and Stacey and all the characters except Smithy. He was one of the writers and yet his character was needy, self-centred and boorish. Which is kind of how he seems to be in real life.
Mmm - you only have to watch the comedy-drama Stella, written by his G&S co-writer Ruth Jones, to see who the real writing talent was in G&S and it definitely wasn't Corden.
There's a lot of stories coming up about him being shitty towards servers, or just shitty in general in public group settings or clubs. Looking at some of these videos it's not surprising.
But.... someone must like it as he keeps appearing. Look in gavin and Stacey and few earlier things in the UK I liked the guy, you can't deny you didn't like GAVLAR and the whole smithy persona, but somewhere along the line, someone has given him the chance in America and he has believed his own hype, like I cant work out what he is meant to be, does he want to be letterman and host talk shows, does he want to be a global actor in serious as well as comedy? or does he want to be a stand up comedian, the lad has got too many plates spinning and nothing is nice to digest.
As a lesbian who is also a fan of musicals when I found out about The Prom and like that it was being made into a movie and knowing that it's loosely based on a real life scenario I was looking forward to it. We are going to have a story with 2 lesbian characters in it and a lesbian couple front and centre in the story and it is a story that isn't depressing and doesn't kill off the gay characters and instead celebrates them. And when I heard Meryl Streep was gonna be in it I was like "yes". But when I watched it I was so disappointed. James Corden's performance was really jarring. A film with so much potential and some really great moments in it got dragged down by Corden and his base level, stereotypical performance. Off the top of my head I can think of people way better and way more qualified to play the role of Barry. Neil Patrick Harris for a start. Firstly he's actually gay in real life, secondly he is a Broadway trained actor so is a better choice to play a character who is a Broadway actor. Like honestly until you have lived our lives and have gone through life not seeing yourself on screen and you have something where you can possibly see yourself in it and then it is ruined by a really bad performance it makes you disheartened. I know people don't like Corden in musicals in general and honestly I don't care that much. most musicals have one weak actor in it like Russell Crowe in Les Mis but when it's a musical that is telling a queer story at the very least cast queer actors.
How many secret gays have played straight men throughout the movie industry history, take Rock Hudson as one example, nobody crying in their beer ove4 that phoney scenario, the alphabet soup group want it all one way, they forget it is acting and all acting is pretending to be someone else other than yourself. I detest Corden, but you can’t condemn him for playing a part, maybe for how badly he played a part is open to criticism. Maybe if you had lived our life as a straight person you would understand. It is no crime to be straight.
Timestamp 9:54 ..In defense to James Corden for his portrayal in PROM. Honestly the role that he had in that movie was laughable, there really wasn’t much good in that particular character anyways. I wouldn’t sully a good gay actor in that role.
I don't really have a strong opinion either way but his "gay" acting was pretty bad. But then again Robin Williams's gay acting was pretty bad too. My guess is that Corden got successful pretty fast and it got to his head and people noticed. I don't watch him enough to care enough.
Hate Corden? Want to see him humiliated?

He's not good as an actor, comedian or presenter.
I don’t mind James, I think he’s tries too hard to be funny which the audience can pick up on. Being comedic should roll naturally.

James Corden is pretty much the British equivalent of Rob Schneider. Annoying, snivelling and unlikeable.

Everybody would have been praying for Kurt Zouma to kick corden when he was in the Cats film

He went to America because he wasn’t welcome in England. He’s one of those bell ends who you want to crash a small aircraft.
The more I tell myself that James Corden doesn't exist the more I believe it may actually happen one day
I never understood this idiots appeal.
Nathan Lane is gay
I have to admit that it is kinda hypocritical.
Yet Ricky Gervais got away with his Weinstein jokes...
How dose he keep getting jobs ? Like who in the entertainment industry keeps looking at him and thinks "yer this is guy". I genuinely want to know.
His only existence is enough.
When he was conceived should be No1
This could have just been a collection of “ the times cordon opened his mouth”.
Just 10?
I haven't seen the film Prom but he personally shouldn't criticized for taking a role. It should be the studios job to cast a gay actor in the first place. You are expecting him to turn down probably millions when no one else would do the same. The rest are all his fault though especially the Patrick Stewart beef
By the same token we wouldn't have had Neil Patrick Harris playing a womaniser in how I met your mother
I've seen numerous clips of him, not a fan, but I don't get why people would "hate" him? He's just a comedian

This video makes it an easy 11.
The thing that pissed me off the most was when he had the black show worker on his show talking about white privilege trying to guilt trip views talking about judging people on skin colour when then was doing exactly that judging white people.
Woke people don't understand hypocrisy, they can't, otherwise the ideology falls apart.
I have never watched anything he is in. He just looks awkward, as if he is trying to be funny but wondering "Is anyone going to laugh?"

And this has been going for years, and if you never heard of this, then you're clearly living under a rock. Pity.

He cheats on his wife
Really? It amazes me he has a wife, never mind a mistress. He's not exactly attractive either in looks or personality.
Don't include me in "everyone". Just because you're all sheep doesn't mean I want to be one.
He just became incredibly annoying... However I thought Gavin & Stacey was brilliant so guess he deserves some credit for that as a co writer.
What's he doing?? Breathing??
But.... someone must like it as he keeps appearing.
Tl;Dr
Stopped when you said a gay man needs to play a gay man. It's called acting for a reason love.
LGBTQ+ can play straight characters, but straight can't play LGBTQ+ ? What the hell ?
Timestamp 9:54 ..In defense to James Corden for his portrayal in PROM. Honestly the role that he had in that movie was laughable, there really wasn’t much good in that particular character anyways. I wouldn’t sully a good gay actor in that role.
