Thankyou for the 2nd time, I originally used your video to replace the front passenger door lock a few months ago. My drivers lock was playing up and this video was incredibly helpful as replacing the external lock into the slot was very fiddly! Got there though and all working well again, great video!
Excellent video! I knew exactly what was waiting for me. The tip about the physical door lock with the key from the outside was a lifesaver! I replaced the lock in about 35 minutes!
Great video. I’ve an A4 and 3 out of the 4 door actuators have gone. I was debating using a can opener if the last door goes but having seen your video I’ll give it a bash. Better than any Haynes manual so much appreciated !
Hey, I just replaced my driver's door actuator that was starting to make a funny noise and was clearly on its way out. Thanks to your video it was a piece of cake. Thank you!!
Amazing tutorial. For me very helpful was the part that the plastic didn't match on the lock spring but I removed it as you showed and finally got it in. I used this tutorial on a Q5. Thank you for the hints and tips!
I just did it! Worth noting about the plastic bit that goes over the lock - it has to sit right, over the lock otherwise you won't be able to put the lock back in. Thanks for the video
Spot on, didn't have to move the bar you can wiggle it out and i have big hands myself. Only thing to add when you put the lock back in make sure the white plastic is seated correctly to the door or it wont push back in. Saved me a fortune and rear door is very similar.
Very good vid buddy, thanks and good work 👍🏼 Also as an easier way off temporarily getting in if you hold the unlock button on most models the windows will come down and you can use key entry by sliding key out of fob and unlocking. These worked for me while waiting for parts.
This entire video was super helpful... always worry about breaking the clips and other stuff when pulling interior panels. You sequence and pointing out all the details and steps was great. The re-install tip on the key lock removal was a really big help. I ended up just servicing my in-op lock mechanism... just required pulling out and cleaning the DC motor (there are other videos on that I found)... Much appreciated!
I couldn't open the door from inside, the hook from the cable was broken so I had to replace the whole cable. This video was very helpful in taking the door apart.
Nice upload, Mrs has just said our door is doing that so that's a job for later. I've just seen a video where you take the lock module apart and clean the motor inside and it works again if you want save a few quid.
Great work and thank you for sharing this with us. I saw another video where you cleaned up the motors. In what instance do these require replacement vs clean/rebuild? I have two doors doing the same as this, and the aforementioned video, you uploaded. LR Passenger: will lock when I enable the child safety lock but once locked you must pull the inside handle first before the outside handle will open the door. RF Passenger: Will lock if I rotate the yellow adjustment furthest clockwise. When unlocked, the external handle will open the door but it won’t lock again until I rotate the yellow adjustment to the furthest clockwise position, replace the geometric, close door and lock engages until opened again and the yellow adjustment resets to vertical. Thank you once again!
thanks for the video, very helpful! i have 3 doors that are not working besides the driver door do you think i should replace all of them or just the three?
i have an Audi A4 2009, before 6 months i started to have problem with the rear door and try not to accept it , but the last days the main door (driver door) started to have the same problem, i have to replace it under your instruction, thanks for your video
I had exactly same issue. Purchased a new lock and replace it by looking this video. It is really helpful. Thanks for sharing. My hands are relatively small. I have done it without removing vertical metal bar.😅 But I forgot the put the white plastic cover screw, I think it wont be a problem.😂 It seems your new lock is a cheap one, not oem part. Is it still working?
I've rebuilt my passenger side actuator just cleaned the motors inside and it's been fine since. Now my driver's one has gone inly difference is the key lock making it slightly harder.Great video.
@@ryanh3285 Oh. So you had to replace the motors? I will just buy the part. I must check out how expensive it is first. No way am I buying a cheap chinese copy.
@@troublebrewing99 cleaning them would have done the job but i found the little motors inside the actuator on ebay and like you would rather not use the chinese crap so i rebuilt the original one it was a bit fiddly but not to bad.
@@ryanh3285 Thanks, the part must be expensive so to purchase of the main dealer any chance you could send me an ebay link for the motors please? I might be able to get the full unit at work hopefully as I work in an automotive manufacturer and we have these parts for testing warranty returns.
Brilliant video 👌 question though, Currently have the same issue with the drivers side rear intermittently but now it won't open at all inside or out due to the child lock being on before I had chance to attempt a fix, is there a way to open the door to go through the process of fitting a new actuator, kind regards
Thanks for this video, I'll follow this to do my driver side actuator. Do you think your fault with the passenger side was related to fitting the new aftermarket one on the drivers side, or was it just a coincidence? Thanks again
Thank you! My A4 (B8) has the same problem. No more so called 'German quality', no more Audi. This is an incredibly ridiculous phenomenon on an expensive so-called quality car.
I fully believe Audi should be made responsible to do a recall for this. After 10 years, all 4 doors on our Q5 have failed. This is a safety issue. Same comment on rolling roof shade! My 1997 4 Runner hasn’t had 1/10th the problems our Audi has had.
Hi, thank you for this video! I am having the same issue, but more symptoms I’m having is that the key blade does not unlock the door. Did the key blade work for unlocking your door when the actuator was faulty? Also LED on the driver door keeps flashing (as if the alarm system is on), and when I go got start the car it says “SAFE” on the dash. Did you experience any of the symptoms with the car? Thanks
Where did you buy the replacement door lock actuator. It looks brand new. I’ve bought a new street market one from eBay it didn’t work so had to buy a used Audi one
I have a 2010 S5 Cabrio and recently I’ve had the Auto Unlock and Lock with the door handle feature acting up. When I would wash my Audi the doors would lock every time I sprayed the doors so I’m guessing there’s an issue with the antennas that acknowledges the key when it’s in my pocket
Recently bought an A6 62 plate. I think the actuators have already been replaced.... Are you able to still use the manual child lock? Looks like the plastic key switch is missing on 3 of the doors. Also keep getting child safety lock error message on the screen. Did you get this? Great video incase I need to change them 👍
Mine just started doing that about two - three weeks ago now. I'm finally get it changed tomorrow. Did you have to go to the dealership and get anything reprogrammed?
I have a 2008 Audi A6 Avant and I am having a similar problem. It started with the front passenger door not opening and I had to unlock it from the inside so may wife could get in. Once unlocked you could open and close the door with no issues and the alarm was working. Right now I can not even lock the car and I don't hear the beep to let me know that the alarm is engaged. I assume that it is a problem with the actuator. A brand new actuator is darn expensive and I may buy a gently used one. Does the dealer thas to reprogram anything???? Thanks for the video.
Hi, thank you for the video. My b8 a4 has the same issue so I brought it to a shop to repair it. However, I believe the mechanics did not put the door back correctly that I cannot use my emergency key to physically lock/unlock my door now. He must have forgotten something. Do you know what he forgot to do during the assembly? Thanks!
Garage Legacy yup you’re right, the mechanics did not insert the blade like mechanism of the lock cylinder into the actuator properly! Thanks for the help!
Taking the door panel off I just broke 3 of the clip on the RHS/out bit, I appears the panel doesn’t just pop off but needs to be lifted once the bottom bit is detached
my driver door handle is beginning to stick when pulled on, instead of returning to its original position, is that an initial sign that the actuator is failing or could it be just a matter of greasing up the pivot points on the handle itself?
Apologies if it's been asked before, but did the key open the door prior to the repair? I have the exact same issue, except I can get into my car via the key directly (not remote), so I don't have to go in through the back door. Wondering if it's a different issue, electrical, rather than just the mechanical part giving up.

After having repleced the actuator I am trying to reinstall the handle and lock on my audi A4 B8 2008 but it doesn't fit! Do I have to turn the lock with the key to refit it? Please your advice yo. Thank you.
I'm having trouble getting the key cylinder back into the door. Any tips for getting that to seat properly? It's almost as if the black plastic tab is stuck in the grooves before the yellow insert on the latch. It's driving me nuts!
