After a few years without dancing, remembering a routine was challenging, but nothing like viewing and practicing. I think the view after 1 minute was the clearest for me to get the steps right, and after that was just let it go with the flow. Also, then the woman steps were pretty straight forward also to memorize! Planning this one for next Valentine's... If you can't go out with Covid, well, be creative and get her a 1 hour crash course to Slow Waltz! Thanks for sharing. Yeah, it's an old video, but the content is never old! :-) Cheers!
A great little routine that I will try to learn. I've only been dancing 8 weeks and I love it. I can only do the natural half turn and box turn at the minute but I'm eager to learn more.
I thought coming to this video on basic Waltz would be the appropriate spot to ask this question about the rise and fall. Question: "On steps 1, 2, there is a depression or bending downward of the legs (the fall) before the rise begins half way through step 2. How much do we bend downward?" It seems the experienced competitors depress at the knees quite a bit.
Technically we lower at end of 3, down on 1, start rising at end of 1, continue rise on 2, continue rise on 3. Degree of lowering depends of how much swing we want (and be able) to produce. Bigger swing means we need more lowering and rise.
+Egils Smagris I never thought of it in that context, "degree of lowering depends on how much swing we want". (When you say swing, you refer to sway I believe). Then, on a natural turn, we would be lowering a more to produce a greater sway (swing), than on a closed change step. Question, what is the minimum amount of lowering do we would do in a Waltz, for example the Closed Change Step? (So I have a baseline to work from).
I suggest to think that way: we start lower and swing forward then we turn and then we sway. About minimum of lowering and rising try this, stand with feet together in normal hight (knees slightly relaxed), then go from this position same distance down (bending knees), neutral and up (rise on toes). About 5cm in each direction.
Hi. I want to ask something. So... 1 and 4, 2 and 5, 3 and 6, what is the difference between them? Is it not 1,2,3 because they are for reverse ? Just trying to learn how counting actually works. And I read in a comment that it's about the beats that it goes 1-2-3 then 2-2-3, however I don't understand the 4,5 & 6 yet :) I only got an idea that it might be for inverted moves, which are not the natural ones in Waltz. :) Oh and by the way. These tutorials are the best ones. Hope to learn and practice a lot. :) P.S.: Also a large thank you for the anime called "Welcome to the ballroom", it actually made me to try dancing again. :)
Hi, Yato, thanks for your questions. Count 123 456 is with similar idea as 123 223. It just indicates that you have two bars of music which musically works together (musical frasing). It is not connected with rotation of figures natural or reverse. Hope it helps! Egils
Good day sir Egils it's me again Gian from Philippines, I really enjoyed watching your video tutorials in waltz routine but i have a problem and I would like to ask for help on how to establish our slow waltz routines, because I find it so hard to connect those actions 'coz there are a lot of actions in slow waltz, would you give us a waltz routine that I can use for my choreography for our Private School Athletic Association contest. Thank you very much in advance sir Egils for sharing your dancing skills to us.
+Gian Manzano, thanks for your question. Best Routine for you depends what you already know from Waltz Figures. For beginners I would suggest Natural Turn - Closed Change - Reverse Turn - Closed Change. If you already dance this, then next development would be to include Natural Spin Turn. Next development will be Whisk and Chasse from Promenade Position. If you can send me video with your dancing I can be more specific in suggestions.
Ok sir Egils thank you very much, i will include those routines in my choreography, sir I can't explain what I felt right now I'm very very happy that you're there to help us. Honestly sir, our school wants us to join in the dance sports competition but unfortunately it's hard for us to find a dance instructor in dance sports here in the Philippines that's why i'm very thankful that you're there to help us. Ok sir I will send you our video as soon as possible. god bless.
Good Evening Sir Egils, we tried already the figures in waltz that you have given to us and we did it, but where we can send our dance video in order for you to see it?.
Tiffany Camperos I think it's a pretty clear tutorial :) Also I think you can feel free to put your question :) Our host is actually giving a lot of attention for the people trying to learn. I am pretty sure, he can answer you, if you put your question on the parts you feel confused about.

Please tell me what this beautiful music track is called
I'm glad you like music, it's "Rains Will Fall" by Kevin MacLeod.
was anyone else a little confused

Tiffany Camperos no
Why not counting 1-2-3?
Thanks CronAcronis for your question. This method is counting not only beats, but also bars. It gives you idea where you are in musical phrasing.
Egils Smagris yes you have it correctly
Instead of 1-2-3, he's counting the series number first instead of the "1." In the above exercise he has 6 sets of 1-2-3. Does that help?
Too fast
