Odia Coates Givens and I attended the same, small church in Oakland when she passed away. She left 2 beautiful, awesome daughters, Odette and Ayoka. She was a special person, beautiful inside and out.
We're in our 70's now and my husband has a bit of belly now. I wrap my arms around him, rub his belly, and sing this. It's hilarious. We both crack up!
I was 16 and my mom took me to an Air Force base to have an abortion and the doctor saw tears coming down my face, he whispered and ask if I wanted to keep it, I said yes, he pulled the curtain back and said she’s to far along. My daughter is 46 now and a beautiful daughter for the Father and I. This song had just came out.

When we discussed our options, we were both agreed upon one thing -- I was not going to have an abortion, so we didn't say anything to our parents until we knew my pregnancy was too far gone for one... We wanted to stay together, & both of us raise our child, but our mothers did everything possible to separate & keep us apart... This song got mocked by the comics, but I think it was thoughtful, and walked a very harrowing PC path...and still sold a million records. Great work by the great one, Paul Anka.
Mocked by comics for good reason. His lyrics make no sense: she’s having HIS baby, he’s singing about how wonderful it is, then he goes off on how she could have “swept it from her life” because he “wouldn’t put her through it?” That part should have been rewritten completely as it doesn’t align with the rest of the song.
One of those brilliant songs of this great Singer. I liked it and felt i would simply adore the girl who was having my baby. What more proof of love can we ask for? -Símply beautiful.
In 1974 I was 23, that's when I first heard this song, by Canada's Paul Anka. 10 yrs later 1983 I had a beautiful baby girl I named Angela. And now 39 yrs later 2022 my beautiful Angela had her very 1st baby, Ever. So I'm sending her this touching beautiful song.
Glorious singer during my 70s high school youth experience....he inspiring not only the audience of that time but also, he motivated with this song to love more our families...God bless him and his family....
What a lovely way to tell the woman you love through a song! Obviously these two people are in love and he wrote a song about it. Married or not it does not matter. She obviously loves him enough to have his baby. I certainly loved my husband enough to have his baby. Paul Anka loved his wife enough to write a song for her on the joy of becoming a father.
I know Paul got a lot of grief then and today for the lyrics, but as a pre-teen I heard this as a profession of love, both celebrating their love for each other and for the child. In hindsight it is awkwardly phrased, but the feelings remain. Also great melody and arrangement.
I remember when this came out, just see it as a beautiful love song and border risque for 1974 'put my seed in you' then he duets with the great and beautiful Odio Coates, which could be another fu to racist and wonder if they ever sang this in the far more ignorant laden deep south ?
I don't see anything wrong with it. If a man was going to profess his love and appreciation for his wife and child there is no better way to put it into words...it is perfect! I do not see where it can be corrected or improved in anyway. It is complete! I truly believe that!!! I literally think it should be... when looking up the definition of the love a man feels for his wife and mother of his child...this should be what you find for an explanation. I find it magical how song writers can capture emotion so well. Id really like to thank Paul for giving humanity such a beautiful song and I wish the cold hearts of those who just don't get it!!! could feel the way most loving Fathers do when they hear it...feel it.

When Odia Coates church found out she sang in bars and clubs they kicked her out of the choir. She toured with Anka, and alas, passed away after fighing breast cancer. What a beautiful woman.
love this song i sang this to my wife as we had 5 miscarriages before my son was born, it brings a tear to my eye today , my son is now 27 , and i love him more than life itself
Hmm .. Lovely ! Having My Baby .. those were the times of innocence youth . I missed my friends . Some have died and some have drifted . The only way to recollect those memories is just to simply listen to these songs !!
Heard this song whilst shopping and couldnt get it out of my head. Listened to it alot since I just think its such a great song about just how special having a baby is.
Since I watched Big Bang Theory, I always think about Howard and Bernadette when I hear this now... And I hope I have a marriage as sweet and sour as theirs one day.
@@buddrossi6451 From a conservative Quaker view. Budd Rossi, first 'liberal' Quakers are like decaffeinated coffee. Is it truly coffee? When he says dogma ect that includes the bible in many 'liberal' meetings(Quaker churches). Most liberal Quakers consider the bible an out dated primitive society rule book that does not have validity today. They reject most things in the bible if it isn't politically correct. Not that many liberals read the bible, when they do they don't seem to give it weight. You see Budd Rossi. The EARLY QUAKERS based everything off the bible. No dogma or pagan traditions that rome absorbed and many protestants dragged behind them. They were the first true sola scriptura faith. When he says 'revelation' it is in a liberal context as well. Most Quakers do not say 'revelation', but that they are lead by the Holy Spirit. Quakers would NEVER suggest that they would add to scripture as the word revelation would suggest. I believe he seriously misrepresented his meeting's congregation's numbers. It seems as many leave Quaker churches as they join. He made it sound like a inrush of new converts. In fact when the flavor of spiritualism was starting to be practiced in many meeting most left Quakerism and ended up in other denominations. Many if not most Quakers left Christianity a long time ago for spiritualism. Most liberal Quakers in fact claim they are not Christians. You see Budd Rossi. I personally wouldn't say a liberal Quaker is a Quaker. If any wants to know about historical Quakerism I can answer your questions.

When Odia Coates church found out she sang in bars and clubs they kicked her out of the choir. She toured with Anka, and alas, passed away after fighing breast cancer. What a beautiful woman.
When did she die?
1991
P Lee don't believe this comment is true. What kind of a church is it that doesn't believe in a second chance?
It is a part of her story
😮😧👍
STILL performs this SO BEAUTIFULLY!!!! A PERSONAL FAV!!!!!!!!!!!!
love this song i sang this to my wife as we had 5 miscarriages before my son was born, it brings a tear to my eye today , my son is now 27 , and i love him more than life itself
oh yeah! Love it...and the lady singer and piano player, wow!
I think more than the words, it is the memory of early 70 s that it evokes. My time machine.
The 70's, when women wore smock dresses and hot pants and wore flowers in their hair.
Hmm .. Lovely ! Having My Baby .. those were the times of innocence youth . I missed my friends . Some have died and some have drifted . The only way to recollect those memories is just to simply listen to these songs !!
Best comment I've seen in awhile 😊
Not lovely, actually gross, narcissistic and sick
This is such an entertaining, and wholesome song about love.
Another Paul Anka classic with the lovely voice of Odia Coates. 🌟
Heard this song whilst shopping and couldnt get it out of my head. Listened to it alot since I just think its such a great song about just how special having a baby is.
I love his smile at the beginning when the crowd started clapping at the second line.
I remember this song when I had my 1st son, it had been out a while, but was my favorite song at that time...brings back so many beautiful memories.
F IS FOR FAMILY -season 2 finale - was the one that brought me here!
123 baby 123 baby...... baby baby baby.....baby baby baby
beautiful song, my three kids were born in 1973-76-79. great memories.
Finn singing this to Quinn is hands down the greatest moment television in television history.
Since I watched Big Bang Theory, I always think about Howard and Bernadette when I hear this now...
And I hope I have a marriage as sweet and sour as theirs one day.
This song is just pure magic!
@@buddrossi6451 Another very hostile comment by you. Why do you have so much anger built up on here. It's only a song Budd. Just chill out!
@@georgefox4762 Religious weirdo alert!
absolutely love this song! love my baby
I'm just moved...truly moved. What a wonderful performance!
I just love this song! Beautiful tribute to his wife. You can see the love in his eyes and heart
Amazing never get tired of his singing of it no matter how old I am!!!!
THANK YOU PAUL ANKA, FOR MOVING TO AMERICA AND BRINGING YOUR GIFT OF WRITING & SINGING.!! MGM VEGAS 1985.!! GREAT SHOW.
I didn’t even know there was controversy around this song? It’s beautiful. A man and wife are in love and he’s singing about how happy he is that she is having his babies. That’s all
People will find controversy with everything nowdays. Snowflakes !! 😀
@@dianneperry1741 ...he sings about ABORTION....learn to understand the English language vs calling others snowflakes'
@@JeanettePerezEDRN and he says she didn´t do it... wtf is wrong with that?
@@jessicagonzalez9908 saying its her choice to have had it vs getting rid of it basically.
@@JeanettePerezEDRN what? Why would he sing that she's having his baby if its about abortion? _You_ should learn to understand english, because that's not what the song is about
Love this man, I'm 19 but wish I was around during these performances, his voice just touches somewhere inside of me that I cant describe
I don't see anything wrong with it. If a man was going to profess his love and appreciation for his wife and child there is no better way to put it into words...it is perfect!
I do not see where it can be corrected or improved in anyway. It is complete!
I truly believe that!!! I literally think it should be... when looking up the definition of the love a mam feels for his wife and mother of his child...this should be what you find for an explanation.
I find it magical how song writers can capture emotion so well. Id really like to thank Paul for giving humanity such a beautiful song and I wish the cold hearts of those who just don't get it could feel the way most loving Fathers do when they hear it...feel it.
So brilliantly performed and what a song.
Muy hermosa canción.
Me trae recuerdos de mi infancia !!
Gracias.
I am 59 and never had a baby ,

Amazing. He's going to be down here at the Seminole Casino in 5 days. $125 a pop is a bit steep but would love to see him sing this live. Classic. Great career.

Happy Happy 80th Birthday Paul! I wish you 80 more years in this world.
I just started watching BLACKLIST and Tom played this song to Keen whiles she was giving birth and I just fell inlove with the song. So I searched it on RUclips and I love it more.. Hope to play this to that special person soon. ❤️
Thanks for putting me onto this song, Uncle Jesse. Becky didn't appreciate it in the moment (understandably), but I'm sure she did afterward.
Having my baby
What a lovely way of saying
How much you love me.
Having my baby
What a lovely way of saying
What you're thinking of me.
I can see it your face is glowing
I can see it in your eyes.
I'm happy knowin' that you're having my baby.
You're the woman I love and I love what it's doin' to you.
Having my baby
You're a woman in love and I love
What's goin' through you.
The need inside you
I see it showin'
Oh
The seed inside you
Baby
Do you feel it growin'
Are you happy in knowin' that you're having my baby?
I'm a woman in love and I love
What it's doin' to me.
Having my baby.
I'm a woman in love and I love
What's goin' through me.
Didn't have to keep it
Wouldn't put you through it.
You could have swept it from your life
But you wouldn't do it
No
You wouldn't do it.
And you're having my baby.
I'm a woman in love and I love
