I had one perforate and cause a peritonitis ..had to use a colostomy bag for a year...spent 2 months in the hospital..was given my last rights twice...but I made it out and I' still here...and all of this happened 2 months before my 39th b-day...Great explanation ....Thanks.
My mum had Diverticulitis that ending in her perfecting and having emergency an opertion. she was in intensive care for 18 days and we were told to expect the worse. It was very scary and we did not understand what was going. Thankfully she was stronger than they thought and a year later she still has the colostomy bag as they don't want to operate on her again as she is nearly 80. I want to thank you for explaining what happened to her. you made it very clear. Thank you x
This is one of the best lectures I have ever heard. Thank you.
I appreciate your lecture style almost as much as the information. Thanks.
I was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago with mild Diverticulosis after a colonoscopy. This video has explained to me as a patient to truly understand where I'm at with this disease. Fiber, fruits and veggies and avoiding junk food will be my savior from getting into complications. Thanks for this great explanation it was very detailed and straight to the point.
This was an awesome lecture. It's clearly defined . Both were understood. Best lecture on diverticulitis
I was diagnosed with this condition last week, and this video really helped me understand what was going on in my body. I'm 29 years old, and I really did not expect this diagnosis. But it's nice to have a great explanation of what is going on in my belly :)
This is the best medical video I have ever seen. Had the lower GI and was diagnosed with diverticulosis a few years ago. So many questions were answered from this video.Thank you so much for putting it in layman's terms. Knowledge is power and I feel so good about everything I've learned.
You are so gifted my dear!! I will definitely recommend my friends to sign up. I'm an LPN student with 4 more months to graduate. I will definitely sign up on your website once I transfer to the RN program. Thanks a million!!
I just came back from the doctor diagnosed with diverticulitis and had NO idea exactly what that was! I was having strong pains in the lower left side getting worse everyday and I was having flu like symptoms simultaneously. But, thanks to you, I now totally understand. THANK YOU SO MUCH for explaining this in layman's terms and also adding the "poop" humor! You are an excellent teacher and I will come to YOUR class anytime. Thanks for the help!
Youre Awsome better than Anyone
Finally this all makes sense. I have suffered with diverticulitis for a couple of years. I've been hospitalized with a partial small bowel obstruction twice within the last six months. Obstruction makes it hard to ingest fiber.
Wow you are right on point and so smart. Just dx w/divertilitis and thought I was dying lol. You helped and made it so clear to me. Thanks!
WOW, this gut is incredible! Explains everything in the most informative way. Keeps it very interesting as well!
Awesome ! With 23 minutes watching, I learned something new today. Thanks for sharing doc.
you are so funny. nice to see another naija educating people. thank you for teaching your sista
You are like blessing for medical students of developing countries!
@ae357em Let me give you some advice since i have had 2 feet of my Colon removed from severe Diverticulitis. It took about a year or 2 from when i was diagnosed till the flare up, and i mean a flare up so bad i could not move. It felt like the left side of my abdomen had been lit with a match and the pain was so bad that it caused shortness of breath. The next time you start to have left sided pain more often, you need to get a Colonoscopy set up. A colonoscopy will not on reveal any signs of polyps, but will also show the severity of your Diverticulosis. If anything needs to be done then your Dr will let you know. If you have a flare up then you need to get to your Dr as soon as you can. This is serious stuff and the last thing you want to do is to not be aware of the situation.
You are the bomb I luv the way you explain it keep it up.
Love this guys teaching!
THANK YOU, Adeleke! This is so GREAT!!!!! Helping me study for NCLEX-RN!!!!!!
Your very good talking about stuff we need to know. frank, direct and to the point. you should teach!
Your videos are very helpful. Thanks!
You are an amazing teacher! Great job!
Awesome lecture. It's put my mind to rest. The first attack I fainted from pain or whatever. I am happy to know under what circumstances to head for emerg. I tend to put these things off because I don't want to look like a panic case and take up valuable physician time if I am just being a sissy. Dad always said...rub some dirt on it and walk it off. PS....you have great charisma.
you're awesome, thank you for the great explanation!
This is the best video on this subject.
God bless you doctor for your wonderful presentation. This knowledge is very helpful! May God always keep you.
Your videos are awesome. Keep up the good work - makes studying fun and easier.
Wow I learned how that goes. You are very good congratulations
Thank you so much for making this topic easy to understand.
Great teacher! Thanks so much for posting your lectures. This is perfect for middle of the night when I get the urge to take a lighter to my med-surg textbook =)
damn, we need more dr from hood to relate to, like this hero right here.
Best video I have seen ! Thank you...
There are actually kids that have diverticulitis. And the cause might be something else, maybe food intolerancе, gluten sencetivety, which is most likely caused by vaccines or antibiotics.
Great! Would love to have him in my class for lecture :)
Great video, Now I exactly know what my desease is. Thank you
thank you for your efforts //very helpful
This guy is great!
Absolutely brilliant thanks
So great!!! thanks so much!!!
I ♥️ this guy
This is a great lecture, although In some cases people have no choice but to switch to a low fiber diet,
fiber irritates my ulcerative colitis causing severe diarrhea and colon irritation although recently I developed diverticulitis as a result.
I hope there is a cure for these illnesses someday
So awesome and clear... I wish you were my professor :-)
Thanks very informative and full of knowledge
Loved your clear lecture and enjoyable presentation. Do you have more?
as a sufferer of this condition I would like to commend you on your explanation of this disease...

Thanks for the lecture. How can I get a hold of you. Wanted to ask you a few questions regarding the USMLE. God bless you!
Great information. GB
Is there any way u can make a video about gastritis thanks great video Dr.
good video thorough
How to treat Diverticulosis. Just to wait for bleeding stop? What about the formed pouches? Will they shrink once take the fiber diet? Will that finally become Diverticulits if not treated?
01:48 sounds like barbecue once a week, not bowl movement. Anyhow, this answered my question, it's due to a poor diet as opposed to something that's not obviously preventable. Since my diet is in order, I've apparently nothing to worry about with regard to this so called disease. Thanks!
Thank you
Amazing video, I want to start watching one a day. What kind of accent is that?
I've been going to the farmers market for almost ten years so it wasn't the fiber. I think too much raw vegetables in a smoothie and was hard on my digestive. Could that be it?
thank u sir
awesome
i like this guy
I was diagnosed with diverticulitis because I was having severe diarrhea. I was going to the bathroom about 10x per day with it. They gave me a colonoscopy and found the diverticulitis. I had been constipated for about 15 years and I guess that is what gave me the diverticulosis. My meaning is that you never mentioned diarrhea so I am wondering if this is not a frequent symptom of diverticulitis/diverticulosis?
last part on diverticulitus didn't show, can you make a video on just that ?
I was 24 y/o when I found out I had Diverticulosis. I have had a few spouts of blood it the toilet and had my 1st Colonoscopy when I was 24 y/o. My family has a nasty GI line with Colitis, IBS and Diverticulosis. I'm now 26 y/o and the past 2 days I have been having sharp, crampy pain in my lower left side and into the pelvic area. I have also been having diarrhea and nausea. I have no fever and no bleeding. Have thoughts that I should go to the ER since I can't get into the GI doctor for 3 days.
maybe u need to see a gynaecologist... if the pain worsens during menses....could be endo... just saying
dracone7
(Hubby's account)
I was actually diagnosed with endo also. I also had a bunch of ovarian cysts. I have had so many surgeries over the past 3 years....gall bladder removal, appendix removal, hysterectomy, scopes, ect. It has sucked a lot. The GI doctor thinks I may have Colitis besides the Diverticulosis.
hari sankar why? my head suits me just fine in its current position
+draquone my mistake..sorry brother... I was a having a bad hangover and my perception went wrong..
I want this guy to come teach me at my med surg class right now!!! lol
did you study medicine in Tennessee?
Hi I have diverticultsis and struggling with multiple flare ups. Are there certain foods I should avoid? In addition are there other causes than constipation because this is not an issue for me but still continue to struggle.
Gluten intolerance an all kinds of food sencetiveties could be the cause. To avoid flare ups don't eat anything with seeds
Hey buddy, I was diagnosed with this two days ago and im 27 can you give me some tips please.
1st step of hartmancolostomy and rectosigmoidal stump with sutures
2nd stage after 6 weeks anastomosis
Your definitions at the start are incorrect. Diverticulosis is simply the presence of pseudodiverticulae, it becomes diverticular disease when any signs or symptoms appear; in 80% of cases, diverticulosis is totally asymptomatic.
Also, for completeness' sake I wish that you had mentioned other risk factors for developing DD (e.g. chronic NSAID use), the Hinchey classification, and other complications of diverticulitis (fistulae, post-inflammatory strictures).
Otherwise it was very well done.
i thank you.
im his wife tonya lemons
@rockytran2006 and on Ulcerative colitis as well
i try to get info cuz my mom is suffering from it,wth ur info she is bad, need surgery but she refuse cuz she said she is too old so she is just suffering until it kills her ,tell me is it too late for alot of fiber
Put her on a gluten free diet. Take out the seeds from tomatoes and cucumbers, put all berries with seed s through a seve , avoid fresh milk products, fried food . Make fresh carrot juice every day. Cook oats, rice and buckwheat and root vegetables. May that will help.
Why would you check hematocrit? Wouldn't it be better to check hemoglobin ?
What if the blood is dark n clots???????
Don't stress out bro.
Excuse me, fellow You Tube users. I have one question. Was that a medical school level presentation?
I have pain on both sides left and right
Makes me want to eat more fiber!
"A high fiber diet is broadly recommended for the prevention of diverticular disease based on unconfirmed, unproven, untested, and speculative "theories" that a low fiber diet causes this pathology. In fact, it's the complete opposite - a high fiber diet is the primary cause of diverticular disease and related complications."- Read why on gutsense.org
hehe ur foony ! :)
Hey ftplectures, you should be more careful about hte words you are using. DIVERTICULOSIS is defined by the presence of diverticula... If a diverticula ruptures, then you will have the symptoms of blood in stools, anemia, etc... Anyway, good video, thanks.
80% of diverticulosis are asymptomatic; that means 20% are symptomatic with symptoms such as LLQ pain, bloody stool, change of bowel habits, etc.
poor poor lesnar
What if the blood is dark n clots???????
