No dia da filmagem Carmen estava com uma gripe muito forte e precisou de uma injeção, a gravação da cena seria cancelada, mas Carmen ficou determinada a gravar.

The dress is so lovely....and the way it drapes on her body, it looks like it was poured over her.
The dress is a middle eastern harem dancer outfit. Not an Indian Brahmin Priest's daughter's outfit! Nothing here is Indian, nothing! Its Hollywood mish mash rubbish.

Middle eastern harem dresses were very lose and mostly had a cut. Moreover this dress was designed by carmen herself and she gave credit to brazilian women so its african tribal inspired. Later they discover he was only receiving dancing lessons from Carmen as an anniversary gift to her mother. In this scene she still does not know that. This is a really fun uplifting movie, 1948 "A Date With Judy".

Her face was so beautiful, and so animated, and you could just see all of her inside shining light sparkle right out of those feisty eyes!! She was fun and cheeky, yet classy and timeless. Too bad she couldn't have had a much longer life, but the truly brightest stars seem to shine for the shortest amount of time. Her light lives on though, and will never truly dim.

When this song was on the radio (1948) I was 3 years old. I thought the lyrics were "Juan tell a goose, tell a goose, tell a goose"--made sense to a 3 year old! Love Carmen Miranda, and my playmate in Hollywood (where I grew up till 12 years old) was a Cuban-American girl whose dad was in Xavier Cugat's band--my mom was her mom's friend, so we listened to his music.

And I was in a band in the 1970s (Any Old Time String Band)--we didn't do any Carmen Miranda songs but we did a Bing Crosby song See You in C-U-B-A from the 1946 film Blue Skies (here's the link: ruclips.net/video/ZmA4ANAOljI/видео.html) and at least on one occasion when we performed it I dressed in a Carmen-style outfit with a fruit headdress and necklace. She was such a fashionista!
