  • Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty is the second Ratchet game to grace the PS3. But it was here for a good time and not a long time and is one of the few mainline games that often gets overlooked. But is that for good reason?
    Let's look at the pros and cons, and importantly find out is it too late to play it in 2022, or has it held up alright?

    Quest For Booty is a bridge between Tools Of Destruction and A Crack In Time.

      Yeah legit, even though it didn’t really answer any questions, it did make the cliffhanger all the more sweet when you see who was involved in clanks kidnapping

    Loved this. I especially loved your Bo Burnham bit. To answer your question of which Ratchet I’d advise skipping I’d have to say Full Frontal Assault, or Q-Force here in Europe.
    Hot take, but I’ll say that while the game has a way shorter runtime than Tools, I enjoyed it way more. Tools felt much more like Insomniac just crammed every cool thing they could think of (not to mention sixaxis) and didn’t care how that affected the pacing. Booty’s pacing felt so good, and I loved everything new they added.
    And, I mean, in one game you’re «the chosen one» and in the other you’re «that Crochetizer salesman»
    The better game is obvious.

      I think that is my very favourite line from What. If you haven't seen the full song called "sad" its from that and well worth a listen haha.
      Yeah I get that perspective, I used the Dualsense to play instead of the PS3 controller, so I actually didn't do any of the sixaxis stuff in this game or the last one, which is largely fine but it does mean one of the weapons is completely unusable.
      We definitely both agree on that though, that crochetizer salesman is the hero we need

    If I had to skip one game, It'd be FFA by far. You can't play it without a friend. Yeah, it was humerous but just not fun.
    I remember as a kid, my older brother and I wished for a good three years to find a copy of Quest for Booty, unaware of its short game time. Had all the games other than it, so when we got it for Christmas, we were sort of disappointed with how short it was and raging at that one section where you have to walk on those dumb beams. I loved the puzzles though, thought those were fun, and the mention of the Obsidian Eye which is key in Crack in Time. Music too. (which by then, we both cleared through a few times). It really does seem more like DLC, but its not the worst experience at all. (The post-unlock puzzles in the Great Clock take that one. Or if Mandatory, the PS2 Water challenge in Blackwater City.)

    I love this small game. It reminded me so much of the first JAK AND DAXTER, or the psc spyro era. Less shooting and more exploration made this perfect. The town with the turbines is my favourite section

    I think that when it comes to weapons they sort of wrote themselves into a hole. In RaC 2 you start with 2 weapons because the weapons from RaC 1 are actually illegal in the new galaxy in RaC 2 which is a neat way to have a justification for taking all your upgraded weaponry away. Same thing happened with RaC 2 to 3, where you were returning to the galaxy of the first game instead.
    Then in Deadlocked/Gladiator you were kidnapped from your ship so of course your weapons are all taken away and gone. But then in the future series I guess Ratchet just left all those Dreadzone weapons at home in his other pants? As far as I know it's not mentioned where all your weapons from the previous game could have been.
    But then because of how they ended Tools of Destruction and where they start off Quest for Booty, which is literally like the next scene after the end of the last game, it just made no sense to take away Ratchets weapons so instead I guess they decided to throw in a choice of semi-upgraded weapons as if you were continuing on from that point rather than starting from scratch. Which is all the more reason why this game would have been better suited as a DLC sort of add-on to Tools of Destruction.
    Enjoyed the video and can't wait till you tackle the other games in the series.

    • @HowGoodGames
      @HowGoodGames  2 года назад +1

      Oh man, I totally agree. My initial thought when I was playing it was 'oh cool, its carrying over from the last one' but then since you only have such a small number of weapons to choose from and how quick the game runs, I realised it was for far more functional reasons then story.
      Also shout out to gadgetron and megatron noticing you had been to other galaxies if you had your save file. One of my favourite moments is in Ratchet 1 when you win the hoverboard race at Gadgetron HQ and ask if employees get a discount, just to get told you have to be working there for 3 years to be eligible for a discount. Then in Ratchet 3 when you get back to the galaxy, if you have your save file from Ratchet 1 it thanks you for being an employee and unlocks the discount. So good.
      Super glad you're still coming back for them, appreciate it mate! Im not sure if I'm going to have a crack in time up next week, or the week after just yet, im playing around with some new ideas for the channel as well, but it will be here soon!

    I can agree that this is literally just dlc but I get why this wasn't that and a full game as this came out when dlc wasn't really a thing if that's the case they should've just straight up made a full on trilogy and imo made this game more epic like make the ratchet and clank avengers team with all the characters from tools ending looking for clank going through the motions maybe qwark does something accidently and it haters the progress for looking for clank and then ratchet gets pissed or something we could've gotten more of the dynamic between those two and the other characters as well talwyn (who I don't like too much compared to rivet in rift apart) cronk and zephyr who I do like and hated their death in nexus down the line but the reason why I don't like qfb as much is because its just huge missed potential and it should've either not have existed or been a full on sequel game

    • @HowGoodGames
      @HowGoodGames  2 года назад

      Reading this triggered another thought for me. The ps2 trilogy/quadrilogy was remembered so fondly and the future series often gets overlooked for the most part. I think Q4B might be the reason honestly, so many people say a crack in time might be there favourite game, and while tools of destruction wasn’t the ‘best’ game it was definitely still fun. I think those two games could definitely rival 2 games from the original trilogy, but when you compare Q4B to it it just doesn’t hold its own. So pound for pound, it makes the future series feel like a lesser product compared to the ps2 games. Love your point as well!

  • @daveprime7278
    @daveprime7278 Год назад

    This was the only game in the series I've played years ago; replaying it recently made me understand, why I didn't remember any of it, since it's pure 6 year old brat steaming pile of garbage, where cutscenes and dialogue are better than the gameplay; at every step you wonder where's the game you paid for, since the short plot is barren, combat is atrocious and straight up unfinished, maps have nothing in them after the first time through, so the game overall is as shallow as it gets, unless you're a call of duty fan, then it might be a little exciting to rent and return this ad break of a game the same evening. I really hope other entries don't lack substance as much as this one, I honestly want to enjoy R&C and see what I missed when I couldn't afford to play those.
