I've never looked at the Matrix movies as a love story. To me it has always been about what is real vs simulation and the philosophical aspect of that. But I suspect that they have made this 4th one as a soapy love story and it makes me reluctant to watch it.
When you really go back and watch all 3 films consecutively it 100% goes in the direction of Trinity and Neo having an incredibly important love story arc. It's not that the other themes don't exist or are unimportan but it was definitely in a Neo/ Trinity love story arc by the time you got to the end of Revolutions..
Its only one side of it and you have missed a lot it seems, there is nothing more beautiful (instead of soapy as you put it) and important as love and of course it was a big part of all the previous matrix movies and continues to be so in this one as well where perhaps its taken to another level. And instead of being reluctant to watch it as you say its better to listen to what Keanu says at the beginning of this interview that it is always a good time for a love story which is true

You can tell how comfortable they are with each other. It's really heartwarming.
For me, Neo and Trinity are two parts of the same person and so this becomes an incredibly beautiful and honest story about self love 💛
