As a Sunderland fan always loved visiting Annfield, great old style ground. It would be brilliant with an expanded Kop end. Im sure they'd easily fill it also. The worst thing about our ground is how far away we are from the pitch. Our old ground we were right next to the pitch. This is one of the things I love about Anfield. I'm positive the Kop could be made bigger hopefully they get it done.

The answer to expanding capacity on the Kop is simple. In Germany, the safe standing areas allow 1.8 standing places per every seat. If legislation was passed allowing this, the Kop capacity could be increased from 12850 to 23130 without any major structural changes, increasing Anfield to around 72000 capacity and restoring the Kop to standing AND the highest capacity stand. A similar conversion of the lower tier of the Anfield Road end would also add another 5000 to the capacity, lifting Anfield to close to 80000 without any more major structural changes.

    • @AdamShep85

    In this order next:
KOP - I would demolish the back third of the kop and add a steeper rake tier from there(still single tier) to match up with height of Annie road. Meaning only 4000 seats would be lost during in construction. So you would end up with 8000 existing at shallow rake then a new 9000 continuing tier resulting in 17000. 65/66000 overall
KD STAND - I think demolishing three rows of houses maybe a bit much. I think just demolishing one row (or two at a push ) it may be plausible able to add 5/6000 seats rather than copying main stand, giving a stand of 16/17000 with a height a bit less than Annie road due to same capacity but greater overall length.
This would result in overall capacity of 70-72000 which I think is fine. It would be a truly unique 4 sided stadium but still feel intimate. The main stand would be still be the biggest, the kop would still be on par with the biggest in the country and overall there would be little disruption to the local area as possible. The only down side would be the continued shitty legroom in the kop, though hopefully it would be safe standing.

@@ivorscrotumic3556 they are offered above value for there homes if they choose not to take the offer then the project maybe a non starter, the council may deem the project more beneficial to the area and insist on compulsory purchases. The closeness of the spectators to the edge of the pitch is really what generates a lot of the magic at Anfield. I hope they never mess with this. As to the capacity of the ground eventually the Dalglish and Kop will get upgraded and Anfield could have a capacity of over 75K........can you imagine how completely and utterly beautiful this will be!!! ......but don't mess with the closeness of the supporters to the edge ever, ever.

It can be done in this order.
    1. Rebuild pub, church and 2 trading shops on vacant land first over the road. The houses at the moment on the corner are all boarded up except 1.
    2. Demolish properties and build a new road running parallel with the existing one, improve the junction by the petrol station to make it safer ie traffic lights. The road would only need to be closed when it met up with existing one.
    3. Once the road is complete, construction work could begin on the new kop in a similar way to what's happening now to the Anfield Rd. Either build a new tier of extend the kop back leaving the existing stand untouched and no need to close it during the season.

Interesting to see all the old reasons for not doing something re-surfacing. Fact is, if there's a good enough reason to do it, it can be done. And no, it doesn't need a railway or a tunnel. Lowering the pitch won't help (unless you don't mind not seeing all of the goals or making a small pitch smaller). Height or tiers don't add capacity (the overlaps are minimal but a higher stand is more intimidating). Width and distance from the pitch do (up to a safety limit). The money doesn't make strict sense or even any sense but what's the 'value' of a RED WALL of let's say, double the capacity (with standing)?

The Kop is the hardest one to do because you’d almost have to rebuild the entire thing to get it right. So it would be down for a season or two and who’s going to accept that if they hold season tickets on the kop. Kenny’s stand could be done similar to the main stand provided they can also buy out the property on that side. That would be the next step I’d imagine.

Just give them concessions to be in the new stand etc, they would accept it if they were to see, to know what it would achieve for the club, to put the Kop back to what it was, the biggest and best. I am against a Kop expansion. Because... Firstly, It starts and generates the noise from within which, because of it's shape, pushes the intimitating sound directly out into the ground at opposing team's ear level.. And Secondly, The Kop is an Iconic stand, and those who mostly pack it out, are the genuine hardcore LFC fans, mostly, that call it their home or even their church. They deserve to have their"home", where the most of 'em know each other and can be amongst themselves.
I must say here that I am an expat and only get to 'pool about 2 to 3 times a season. I was however once lucky enough to get a Ticket for a very good seat on the Kop, and cherished every moment of the game (even though it was a draw v Brighton, when we desparatly needed a win.

FSG have deliberately done the easiest upgrades first, and I cant say i blame them. The option to build behind then join the two together is no longer available on the Kop. The current capacity is 12,600 approx (give or take a few hundred) . Basing on the fact Spurs new stand is about 17,000 behind the goal so assuming thats the realistic limit (Im assuming thats the largest single tier behind a goal in the UK) so Im assuming (could be wrong) thats as big as is feasable. Ive seen other far mor knowledgeable individuals on rawk mention there are rules regarding maximum distance from the far end of the pitch, maximum angle of elevation which limit ultimate size in The UK. So thats approximately only 4,400 more, which isn’t a huge increase. Factor in the cost of moving two pubs a church WBR and probably several other residences to make way for the new WBR plus its a total rebuild, so losing it for two years. Thats an eye watering cost assuming permissions can be gained. I could of course be talking utter bollocks here, but FSG would require a huge amount of willpower to overcome all that

i wish in short future they can expand the stadium all 4 stands or at least 3 stands if all 4 cant be completed... not only overall is gonna look 100% better but also club like Liverpool needs at least 70k stadium its sooo many people waiting on season tickets...

  • @SG80394

Liverpool, at least, deserves a 65k seats stadium. Adding 3500 seats more on the kop and replicate the annie road stand in this, and another 1000 on SKD stand (buying the row of houses at the back of the stand) could reach it.

I’d say the Kop unfortunately will be the last to be expanded. SKD will probably be next. So if the KOP has to be bulldozed they other 3 expanded stands would bridge the loss of revenue from the KOP being empty. My opinion is they’re looking at or waiting to see if the degrees in what a stand can be set to increases meaning they can have a steeper stand with more bums on seats plus could have rail seats so even more bums on seats, plus how much more seats could be fitted to the other 3 stands probably another 5-10k. Push Mersey rail to build a station at back of Stanley Park cemetery where the rail line is, so fans can leave via a train station back to the city as well as buses, taxis & walking. Keep the videos coming & discussions

U mean safe- standing not rail seats? This will be very difficult, not bc u couldnt fit more ‘ bums in expanded stands but bc more people means more pressure in the concourses and safety issues. The atmosphere would be better with safe- standing but i don’t think LFC would allow more people bc of the possibility of crushes in the concourses. Could be wrong on that . Depends on how many people the concourses can take at one time.

hi kc i agree the steepness of the kop roof can be altered to accommodate an expansion of seats but to do that then they would surely have to remove the existing roof first, however i do believe FSG will employ some architects to look into it and draw up some plans in different ways and angles it could be achieved,

Was a Kop season ticket holder in the old standing Kop growing up. And was there for the last stand.
Also you'd have to shut the Kop down for two seasons to do the work..... No Kop for 2 seasons.
I had an idea a while ago..... In that we could've built a huge Kop at the Annie Road End... A Single tier.... Designed to keep the sound in. And then we could've added another tier to the existing Kop.
All the Stands are now relatively new and it would still be Anfield..... But can't do that now

It's bonkers reading all these comments about how LFC MUST expand the ground even further. here's something that many of you may not know. Liverpool Football Club is a football club within a city. A city where people actually live. The area around Anfield is heavily populated & the ground's now about as big as it will get for the foreseeable future. I was stood on the Kop before many of you here were born & I'm a lifelong red, but be realistic ffs.
Liverpool is a city more than it's a football club. Expand this, rebuild that etc etc. People live here folks. Remember that.

It’d be twenty years time when the next stand is redeveloped if we’re lucky, that’s the compromise of staying at Anfield. I’d hate to leave the place but if we want a big capacity that’s what we’d have to do. In this respect everton have stolen a March on us even though it’s only going to be 52k typical Liverpool eh same old same old.

Personally, I wouldnt want the Kop to change its shape angle steapness etc. Keep everything the same, just make it bigger because its that level of steapness that shape etc. is what makes the atmosphere so special. Because its not that steap and goes really far back the noise that comes out of the Kop on matchdays is unlike any other.

It will be interesting to see what happens with The Kop & The KDS in the near future. They will certainly need to be expanded & updated to sit along side the other 2 amazing new stands.
Anfield really should be in the 80K plus capacity stadium.
Public transport infrastructure could be a bit of a headache with regards to this.
However, I'm sure the people in charge of the purse strings will be thinking big & have a plan in their thoughts for future expansion of the stadium.

the club elders must already know the potential of the future stadium, hence, they decided not to build a new stadium, they could make it like the rose bowl and simply elevate everything so it's steeper, raise the roof, as we say, lol, compared to the old days, the kop must be a great experience, I remember being thrown around and squashed like a tomato during a hellish game against the mighty Forest side of Cloughy, the most chaotic night I saw in the kop, and to think, in the future there will be thousands of arabic fans with red on their heads cheering us on, throwing some money into the club, sounds promising.

Hi Kev, sorry, I know it's an old post, so you might not pick this comment up.
But I've been thinking. Now we can see the true scale of the Anfield Road end is their an opportunity to revisit what the potential of a Kop expansion would look like?
For example, you did two great videos on how many streets the Main stand took up when expanding and the potential number of streets it would take for the King Kenny stand using past & present Google Maps.
Is there something similar you could replicate here to show just how far back an extended Kop would need to go?
Just judging by how the roof connects on the Main stand to the new Anfield Road I suspect the Kop would need to sit a bit further back than it is now.
And what's your opinion on the historic design of the Kop reaching back into the shadows versus the potential new design you highlighted here i.e. going high/steep, similar to Spurs & Dortmund. Do we lose any mystic?
Ps great videos from you and Mister Drone. Had me hooked on these for the past 18 odd months! Thanks again.

In response after watching the video, the 1st thing that stands out us yes the club has definitely got to work with what they've got & a steeper single tiered stand the same height as the new annie rd or as close as would surly be the best approach & yes bring the seats closer or as close as to pitchside

Won't work. The Anfield Road stand is going to be twice as deep as it was. You can't put any more rows of seats in the same depth of stand. It makes no difference how steep it is. People still need legroom.

You are mentioning width when you mean depth. The Spion Kop is a deep grandstand but the same width as the Anfield Road end. The incline could be altered but the cost v extra seating (or safe standing) would be difficult to justify economically.

    • @NathLloydDavies
      @NathLloydDavies 2 года назад

Not to mention the logistical issue of closing the whole Kop for virtually two years. Since the Kop is virtually full of season ticket holders those people would need to be moved temporarily into other stands or have their season tickets paused. It just won’t happen. Only room for expansion after the Kemlyn Road is in the corners of the ground, which again is much easier said than done

  • @1ArtieFufkin

You can re-route the church, pub and the road, whether the club would be allowed to us another matter and like with everything else in the world it boils down to money. If the club pay for a new church, new pub and shops then it can be done and if enough Palma are greased at LCC then it can be done. It’s over fifty years since three men got in a rocket blasted off into space, landed on the moon, gathered a few rocks, got back in the rocket and came back to earth. If they can do that they can expand The Kop.
