I was up on Great Mis Tor today.....beautiful. I have lived in a 650 year old haunted house. I never want to experience that again. I met an old man on a Welsh mountain who told me he had died that morning and watched the paramedics bring him back to life. He walked away and I should have been able to see him.....but couldn't. I lived in a mansion that was used as an alternative cure for cancer hospice and heard incredible crashes in the night. Upon investigation.....nothing. I keep an open mind.
This was wonderfully atmospheric, George! 🧡 Greetings to the excellent apple kicking companion, Beardy Brother! 😃 P.S. There is nothing more spine-chilling, than the dark side of self on the loose. 😉
Boulder Fields George 😳...for heaven's sake, be careful! (Missing 411 reference, boulder fields are not to be trifled with). I'm so relieved you survived your encounters with that ropey looking bloke... maybe the presence of Beardy Brother kept him in line 🤔 Thanks for a marvelous (spell correct says it only has one 'l', but I thought it had two) non spooky, spooky episode on non spooky, but spooky Dartmoor 👌 Remember George and Beardy: 'the Owls are not what they seem', and those naughty ponies were sticking close to you so as not to have their innards whipped out by none existent UFOs 😬 (and why is the Moon yellow, but the Sun just isn't anymore 🤔) 🦉👀
@TigerLily7. I'm ashamed to admit I only watched the first few episodes 😔...my eyes weren't open in those days 😉 I did think it was incredibly inventive though, now I think it's more real than reality 😳😲
Great episode, George. Did you include those church bells at the end, or did you actually record them? (I suppose sound can travel quite far if the conditions are so predisposed for it.)
Yeah, that was the real sound as the sun went down (it was on a separate visit to the one with my brother, though)! I think the sound was floating up from Manaton church.
You guys look like you had the best bloody walk ever, save for the near calamitous end! 😂 I won’t comment on Romans in the westcountry as I have too much to say on the topic and none of it is conclusive or helpful 😂 I will talk about one of my favourite of changes in definition - a sceptic today is someone with a certain set of materialist ideologies, the origin of the word sceptic is someone who questions their most profoundly held beliefs on a daily basis. I find the original definition far more scientific and useful for understanding reality.
Thanks, mate! I'd be interested to know what you think about the Romans in the SW - seems to be a lot of vague and conflicting info! You'll have to tell me when we go and look at those stones.
Prof Chris Smart at Uni of Exeter who discovered the Calstock fort is of the opinion that the Romans made a beeline for the tin based on the evidence of a very early coin hoard - stabilised d&c first and then moved the troops out to Wales - it may be that the Dumnonii welcomed the Romans and thereby maintained their autonomy just as occurred in the saxon and Norman periods- the tin gold and silver were just too valuable
Prof Chris Smart also magicked an entire south west road network based off about a mile (total) of features spotted on LiDAR (ie. not actually archaeologically investigated). Although I do enjoy the speculation, 1 set of coins and a site that was occupied before and after the roman military is a not much to build a narrative from. Does stabilised mean pacified?
Happy Halloween! 🎃

I do wonder if maybe some people attract the paranormal and others repel it. I'm definitely in the latter category. The old man story is very creepy!
@@thedartmoorpodcast I have begun to wonder if I attract these things. I hope not.
He was a lovely Old Boy.
Good luck with the channel.
Huge props for the guitar rendition of Danse Macabre - never heard anyone else try that before!
Happy Halloween. I’ve never got bad vibes up on Dartmoor, but do get an incredible sense of calm and peace when entering grimspound 🤷♂️
"Av it!!!" 🥾🍎

The good George is in the lodge.

Ah! 'The owls are not what they seem' - my absolute favourite series ever!
@thedartmoorpodcast Spoken like a true con-spire_assist 😉
☕ and pie guy, eh? 😁
@@thedartmoorpodcast Mine too!👍
What a great comment! Love the Twin Peaks reference - such a significant part of my 90's childhood.🪶

I didn't see your lights tonight
Ha! My gas lamp wasn't as bright as I remembered - I was going to use it to throw some eerie shadows around the tor, but it didn't come out very well.

@ that reminds me, did you go in the church at Lustliegh? There’s one there!
Not yet, though it did cross my mind - I'm saving it for December... maybe a Christmassy episode!?

Hey! But what if there was a good bit in the middle?!
@@thedartmoorpodcast I didn't know you are/you're able to talk crap too. Must be a man of many talents.
