Dentalelle Tutoring is an online tutoring web site for dental hygiene and dental assisting students. Andrea Twarowski is the owner of Dentalelle and has been tutoring for 12+ years. She currently works part time as a clinical dental hygienist and advanced skills as a restorative dental hygienist. Tutoring is teaching is her true passion!
Thank you for this video! I'm starting my externship next week and was nervous. My program requires only 40 hours of externship.
I've read that most dentists expect you to know when and what instrument to hand them without them telling you. That's what I'm nervous about.
MC Yes! I started my internship Tuesday and was in the chair that first day as well. I was expected to know the basic tools as I was assisting with 3 composites. I have a fantastic teacher so it went fine with the help of the regular assistant handing me the proper tools. Idk how I’ll ever remember or know how to recognize what the dentist wants next.
Good luck! Not at all! In fact, I find most dentists assume you know nothing and are happy having you sit there and DO nothing haha. Make sure to look involved, ask questions and offer help!
thank you for this video! I just completed my 4th day at my externship- we have to complete 435 hours! Its been more than I expected and I just want to be great at it, I hope each day along gets better thank you for your videos they make me feel much better

I just started today at my Externship and I feel like that I’m just dead weight and they don’t really want me to get into things they just told me to observe that’s it. I’m thinking of switching offices. I don’t know what to do. What do you suggest I should do.

I’m super nervous about my internship.. my school starts your internship as soon as you start classes. I’m literally so lost and scared people are going to be annoyed with me 😭

Ugh I’m in my internship right now and the DA I’m shadowing doesn’t like teaching or answering questions. She’s waiting to get into nursing school.

Good luck! Watch and learn :). Dont be afraid to ask questions and jump in to help! If you see an assistant cleaning the room "here let me help.." if you have some down time and are bored, go help file charts. You will stay in their minds that way. Keep me posted how it goes please!

Is it ok to ask questions during the procedure or should you wait until after, when the patient has left? I'm nervous about them feeling like they have to explain too much and extend the patient's time in the chair.

Do you suggest somebody actually going to school as like a dental hygienist or a dental assistant and then try to look for internships or it really shouldn’t matter ? Because I haven’t went to school but like I have a general idea that I want to be a dentist and so I figured Looking for internship would give me General idea of what I would be getting myself into so overall my question is do you think I should make the step into actually going to Tec School then do internship or The order doesn’t really matter

As far as I know, dental assisting won't give you much credit? BUT maybe your situation is different. I would speak to the dentists association to know for sure what you need
