Growing up as a kid in the 80s being a baby when Jedi came out, Ewoks and Droids and cameos in Muppet Babies were my only exposure to Star Wars. I knew some of the mythology and plot from Spaceballs which I saw and aired 100+ times in the late 80s. I never saw Star Wars films shown anywhere on TV. I recall one summer where NBC or a network was going to show each film Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I was hyped to watch when I remembered on Sunday. Hyped for spacejets and laser guns and to see Darth Vader. All I see in the first ten minutes is two effeminate robots bickering in the desert and knocking on a big door and talking with a big slug. I turned it off there and did something else. I didnt see the movies finally until I was 17, on the eve of Episode I. Star Wars kind of faded away and wasnt a thing between 1985-97. So Battle for Endor basically amounts to "But it's OK" and "Oh No!" for the entire runtime? That's a lot more than most Star Wars extended universe stories.
Walked out of a summer vacation morning show of ROTJ. Saw the "Caravan of Courage" poster, the one in thumbnail. With the young Mark Hamil clone level lookalike(1:02). Fully expected an episode 7 or 3. That casting was the unmasking of cheap moneygrabbing that followed over the decades.
The biggest thing I love about these movies is they're not about the skywalkers, the empire, jedi, nor the force. It's its own thing that expands on the universe rather than limit it.
The witches of Dathomir originally debuted in a book that came out after this second movie movie was made, but they later retconned the villain of the movie to be a Dathomir witch, specifically a Nightsister, and retroactively made her the first appearance of a Nightsister and Dathomir witch in Star Wars. In the Book of Sith-a collection of manuscripts by various darksiders-Mother Talzin describes how a rogue Nightsister stole their clan’s only raven-form Talisman of Shapeshifting, an allusion to the villain of this movie.
That Spider was scary as hell - dream haunting when I was 3-4 years old. Had the first movie on VHS, taped off air. Wore the first movie out. Only saw the second one once and was traumatized.
I grew up with these movies and remember liking them. Plus, I really latched onto Cindel as a child. The movies were scary but still fantastical enough to not drive me away. I haven't seen them in a very long time and, yeah, I suppose they aren't amazing, but I think they do still deserve some credit for just being what they were. I also wish they got brought up more, especially in relation to modern Star Wars (or maybe they do, I don't know).
definitely prefer Battle for Endor out of the two, and anyone who hated Ewoks back then probably screamed in apology once they met Jar Jar Binks. personally they never bugged me at all.
I remember these movies. For the longest time, I looked for a physical copy of them, but found nothing. It is nice to know they can be found, again. It is also nice to know they have not been lost to the entertainment void.
I just watched Phantom Menace for the first time in a while a few days back and really enjoyed it. For me it still holds up, and is definitely a good way to get into the series.
@@peterhanson3472I concur. While imperfect films the prequels have plenty to love, I understand the hate, we’re seeing time repeat itself with the sequels getting crapped on. I always try to remain open and positive though.
I really enjoyed these as a kid. They're aimed at kids, but they have that sense of fun and magic that all the George Lucas projects had at that time. I enjoyed them more than the Disney sequels! They're small stories in a big universe.
The Ewok movies are good movies. I was born in 1984 when Caravan of Courage premiered on American television. My favourite out of the 2 movies is Battle for Endor.
"there are worst ways to get into star wars" okay why then show the prequels? for ALOT of my generation we got and fell in love with stars because of the prequels
I’m 23 and I remember thinking the prequel movies were ok when I was younger. I want to ask have you watch the prequel recently? A lot of people I know who defend those movie haven’t watch it since they were kids. I rewatched those movies last year and honestly ep 1 and 2 just suck. Revenge of sith is the only prequel movie I thought was ok and would rewatch.
You have to wonder though.... were there any Ewok Jedis in the Jedi Order? Like imagine just how weird it might be to see one of those furry things swinging a lightsaber and killing droids - we've already seen their Stormtrooper murdering skills in action!
i think after the 80s they basically forgot about the ewoks (out side from that cameo in rise of the skywalker and of course the hunt missions from battlefront) since i can't remember other media where they appear
A quick check brought up an unnamed Ewok Jedi that apparently appeared in Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds, a book that was part of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game.
@@motor4X4kombatThey appeared in Endor in the RTS game Empire at War, where you can fight alongside them (as the Rebels) or massacre them (as the Empire).
I played one in the Star Trek Roleplaying Game years back. I think the game technically didn't allow for Ewoks to be force sensitive, but my GM handwaved that. (Hell, I'm pretty sure the Ewok shaman in these movies is seen using the Force a few times, including in one of the clips Doug showed.)
I remember seeing the first Ewok movie at a After School Program a long time ago. I didn't remember much since it was kind of boring and I expected more from Star Wars. It's hard to believe after Ewoks: Battle for Endor, we wouldn't get another Star Wars movie for almost 15 years. Fun Fact: The Principal from the Breakfast Club plays the father in Battle for Endor
I never saw Caravan of Courage or Battle for Endor. My introduction to the franchise was seeing the Lego Catalog ads for the 1999-2001 toy lines, and then my mom rented Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope on VHS from Hollywood Video to watch on my 8th birthday back in 2001.
i remember the sequel as a kid, and i remember hearing wilford brimley say 'fuck' thats the ONLY thing that stuck with me my entire life about these 2 movies. and there are people saying he didn't say it, it just 'sounded like it'. well as an 8 year old kid 'sounds like' is good enough for 'actually swore'. if he hadn't sworn i likely would have forgotten i had ever seen these movies.
Everyone who hates the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi has no soul. As a kid I loved Return of the Jedi and hated Empire for being too dark and because the bad guys won. Of course that changed but still, the Ewoks are lovable. The moment where C3P0 explains the story to them and it feels like that grand lore, how can you not love that?
To be honest I remember watching both movies when they came out the first one couldn't tell you a single thing about it the second one, wow they went dark as hell my parents weren't sure if I could watch it, and I remember every scene
Battle of Endor was my first Star Wars movie. I remember it aired on The Disney Channel in the early 90s, and it lead me to believe for many years that the Star Wars films were made by Disney. Crazy, huh.
Ewoks Battle for Endor I remember watching a bunch when I was a kid, something about the little creature who could run insanely fast always made me giggle like an idiot in front of the TV. Shockingly I'd say it's one of my young guilty pleasures.
I only saw Battle for Endor. It was traumatic, but in a good way. Alot of 80s films, TV movies and even some shows would have some grim, bleak or terrifying bits in them, despite being for children. I saw Star Wars first, but watching BoE, it reminded me and felt more like a Willow movie. Almost sword and sorcery, rather than tech and force. It didn't really bother me then and now, its all isolated to endor but it was something that even now, I cannot help but draw parallels between them.
Caravan of Courage was my first contact with SW, I can't count how many times I watched it as a kid, even if I had nightmares about the Gorax (the giant monster). I remember watching Battle for Endor and being scared as hell too, and i didn't like the whole family getting killed, so I pretty much buried the movie in my memories until I decided to watch it some years ago. I liked it better this time but the first movie is still my favorite.
I feel like Gandalph here--I have no memory of this film. In fact for such a popular series like star wars it's so weird to here everyone fondly remembering something I have NEVER heard of!

Just odd how the popular zeitgeist will hit these types of things around the same time period.
So Battle for Endor basically amounts to "But it's OK" and "Oh No!" for the entire runtime? That's a lot more than most Star Wars extended universe stories.
Battle For Endor is a masterpiece. Change my mind.
Battle For Endor goes HARDER than it needs to.
Definitely.
You guys think Wilford was able to get all his Diabetes supplies delivered right to that hut?
Ewoks are ADORABLE! 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹❤❤❤
I predict December 30th, he’ll review the Indiana Jones movie and December 31st, he’ll wrap it up with Once Upon A Studio
Rio 2 is December 30th.
I've never seen Caravan of Courage, but my family recorded Battle for Endor from TV and that was my introduction to Star Wars
Battle For Endor is awesome
Fun fact: Battle for Endor was the first introduction of the Bluurg (the mounts the Twi’leks and Kuiil ride in modern canon) in Star Wars.
I watched the second one over and over as a kid...lol
Same here. It's my favorite.
The second film is the one I remember watching the most as a kid and it was still a lot of fun to watch now years later as an adult
I think the reason why people don’t talk about these films because they didn’t grow up with them
Walked out of a summer vacation morning show of ROTJ. Saw the "Caravan of Courage" poster, the one in thumbnail. With the young Mark Hamil clone level lookalike(1:02). Fully expected an episode 7 or 3. That casting was the unmasking of cheap moneygrabbing that followed over the decades.
Love that the Blurg creatures from Battle For Endor came back in The Mandalorian.
6:00 Actually, yes! The witch Charal was retconned into being the first Nightsister to appear.
Those Marauder guys actually reminded me more of the orcs than Mumm-ra.
The biggest thing I love about these movies is they're not about the skywalkers, the empire, jedi, nor the force. It's its own thing that expands on the universe rather than limit it.
Exactly
This was my introduction to Star Wars, this and the Ewok cartoon show
I grew up with these movies and remember liking them.
👍👍💯💯 I agree and Battle For Endor is my favorite
Aubree Miller as Cindel is very adorable/likable.
definitely prefer Battle for Endor out of the two, and anyone who hated Ewoks back then probably screamed in apology once they met Jar Jar Binks. personally they never bugged me at all.
I remember these movies. For the longest time, I looked for a physical copy of them, but found nothing. It is nice to know they can be found, again. It is also nice to know they have not been lost to the entertainment void.
George lucas really thought the ewoks would be a big deal after jedi 😂
I just watched Phantom Menace for the first time in a while a few days back and really enjoyed it. For me it still holds up, and is definitely a good way to get into the series.
@@peterhanson3472I concur. While imperfect films the prequels have plenty to love, I understand the hate, we’re seeing time repeat itself with the sequels getting crapped on. And while I can’t quite yet, I look forward to the day a bunch of kids tell me that actually rise of skywalker is underrated shut up old man… and then I can finally understand how my father felt when I told him that… ahhh… what a day that’ll be…
Or not who knows, only time will tell how the sequels are viewed. But as a kid who grew up with them, it’s good to see the prequels get some much deserved love.
@@peterhanson3472 Then you aren't a real Star Wars fan and you are a pathetic hypocrite. As a sequel fan you get no sympathy from me. We are NOT allies. You deserve no love. Fuck the prequels.
@@AnimatedTerror There are adults are like the sequels, like me. This is hard for you to understand because you are stupid and narrow-minded and assume that only small children like them.
We are at that stage when we are fat, bald, middle aged drunks with health problems, looking at the black-and-white photos of our exes, going “forgive us prequels! We didn’t appreciate you enough . If we only knew. If we only knew……”
@@peterhanson3472 a show that does for the sequels what clone wars did for the prequels would rock. I don't want to hold my breath because I feel the circumstances of star wars as a popular IP is very different, at the time you could do whatever with star wars because it was in this strange stagnant spot, so the clone wars was born. now under the thumb of Disney eh... we'll see. again, time will tell. I always try to remain open and positive though.
The second one, Battle Of Endor is my favorite. It’s a bit darker
Now that you've done Dreamworksuary, Bat May, Twilight-tober Zone and Disneycember, you should do Nickuly.
Also - there's the legend of Lieutenant Kettch!
Not quite a Jedi - but still, a tale worthy of song...@@scizoreon4068
I played one in the Star Trek Roleplaying Game years back. I think the game technically didn't allow for Ewoks to be force sensitive, but my GM handwaved that. (Hell, I'm pretty sure the Ewok shaman in these movies is seen using the Force a few times, including in one of the clips Doug showed.)
Funnily enough I was introduced to Star Wars from Muppet Babies. There was a skit where the babies meet 'Nanny Vader'.
wow the second evoks movie is pretty badass for kids!
💯💯💯👍. Yep
I know this is unlikely to get answered but can someone PLEASE tell me the background music.
I didn't know the Ewoks got their own movies
Same!
TV movies, to be exact.
@@kylemorello4787 Ikr
Me neither until a day ago.
these movies need to be canon agian
The sequel is awesome
Everyone who hates the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi has no soul. As a kid I loved Return of the Jedi and hated Empire for being too dark and because the bad guys won. Of course that changed but still, the Ewoks are lovable. The moment where C3P0 explains the story to them and it feels like that grand lore, how can you not love that?
To be honest I remember watching both movies when they came out the first one couldn't tell you a single thing about it the second one, wow they went dark as hell my parents weren't sure if I could watch it, and I remember every scene
I saw Battle for Endor as a kid when it ran in cinemas in Germany.
I got so scared that we had to leave the screening. 🙈😰
Secret Galaxy made a video about the Ewok movies yesterday.
Battle of Endor was my first Star Wars movie. I remember it aired on The Disney Channel in the early 90s, and it lead me to believe for many years that the Star Wars films were made by Disney. Crazy, huh.
This is definitely a Captain Phasma prequel!
Anyone else find it odd 20 hours before this Secret Galaxy posted a video on the same two Ewok movies?
Hey arent those creatures that the bad guys ride in movie 2 the same that mando rides in season 1 of the mandalorian?
Yes, they are
Ewoks Battle for Endor I remember watching a bunch when I was a kid, something about the little creature who could run insanely fast always made me giggle like an idiot in front of the TV. Shockingly I'd say it's one of my young guilty pleasures.
💯💯
The girl in the movie was adorable
Battle For Endor is a classic
I only saw Battle for Endor. It was traumatic, but in a good way. Alot of 80s films, TV movies and even some shows would have some grim, bleak or terrifying bits in them, despite being for children. I saw Star Wars first, but watching BoE, it reminded me and felt more like a Willow movie. Almost sword and sorcery, rather than tech and force. It didn't really bother me then and now, its all isolated to endor but it was something that even now, I cannot help but draw parallels between them.
💯💯
Okay the Phatom Menace call out got me, I loved that movie as a kid 😂
Caravan of Courage was my first contact with SW, I can't count how many times I watched it as a kid, even if I had nightmares about the Gorax (the giant monster). I remember watching Battle for Endor and being scared as hell too, and i didn't like the whole family getting killed, so I pretty much buried the movie in my memories until I decided to watch it some years ago. I liked it better this time but the first movie is still my favorite.
I still have to see Star Wars in chronological order prequel to sequel
The scene with the girl's nightmare in Battle of Endor gave me the WORST JUMP SCARE as a kid 😭
Soooo true. It’s unsettling even as an adult
Battle For Endor goes HARD. It’s darker than it needs to be and I love it
@@chasehedges6775 it actually got me when he played it again😂
True
I feel like Gandalph here--I have no memory of this film. In fact for such a popular series like star wars it's so weird to here everyone fondly remembering something I have NEVER heard of!
Doug could probably make a top 11 list of all the fake spiders he's seen 😅.
Well I had no idea that theses were real. Thank Doug for my new nightmares tonight.
0:25 That's fair. My introduction to Godzilla was the Hanna-Barbera cartoon from the 70s.
Another RUclipsr talked about these movies just yesterday in fact crazy coincidence
