Local park - trail, tennis court, and a hill that leads into the local cemetery! Only thing it's missing is a skate park. Also just found out they re-surfaced a street a couple down from my house. I forgot how smooth streets CAN be....ours is bumpy. Saddens me that they took out the speed bumps on that street, though. They're so much fun to go over, and kind of "mini-practice" for ramps because when going slow, you do have to sort of pump to get over them. Unless you're going full speed, of course, then you tend to get airborne, which is just as fun.
The university where I work has a ton of parking lots and empty, flat spaces. Those have been really wonderful to practice on! I now find myself scouting new places to skate whenever I need to drive somewhere...
Pacific Electric Trail - pretty much follows Route 66 from Claremont to like Rialto. Some really cool scenic spots. 🏜🏞 www.traillink.com/trail/pacific-electric-inland-empire-trail/
Y'all inspire me so much. I'm a curvy queer skater and I feel like I can go outside and skate cause I see other people like me doing it. My GF gets really down on herself about her body some times and I showed her you both skating and it made both our hearts sing! You are both so inspiring :) Have fun out there.
I would like to request a video from you. I am a beginner and have been practicing in parking lots and my kitchen. I have a trail near my house that I wanna try. I am curious how manage the declines (not hills), I'm scared of picking up speed. How do I move on declines? Thanks for sharing And congrats on your skate adventure today. ❤
Start slow. Walk the trail first. Knowing there's a decline, I hope that means you have already done that but, seriously, do it again. This time, though, think of being on skates. What is on the sides of the trail - not just at the decline, but the whole trail, or at least the part you want to skate? Is it grass lined? Dirt? Gravel? Does the terrain around the trail change depending on what section you're on? (Like mostly grass, but "this" section is dirt or "that" section leads to a parking lot - with or without a curb.) Skate the trail up to the point of the decline..."test the waters", so-to-speak...so you can get the feel of the path under your feet. The surface is going to be a bit different than a parking lot and, of course, your kitchen. Don't forget to wear your pads!!! Even with smaller declines, usually going down backwards is safest. Be sure to "ride" your toe stop like you would on bigger hills. This is good if the area is smooth and/or has little to no debris. You can roll forward and use the staggered stance, just like going over cracks. This is the safest way if there's a lot of debris and/or if the trail is a bit on the rough side. If there is grass in the area near the decline, try various techniques and see which one feels most secure to you - but if need be, hit the grass if you feel you start gaining too much speed. Grass will slow you down, but won't necessarily stop you/knock you off balance. If it's surrounded by gravel, learn how to fall safely (Rebel just did a video on how to fall safely a couple weeks ago, look that up if you haven't watched it already) and you can take a knee. Then, simply slide on your knee to get down, then get back up once you hit the "bottom" of the incline. If it's a wider path - say, 6 feet or more - you can use the same technique (carving) as you would for a regular/larger hill. If you're comfortable using your toe stop while going forward, drag that toe stop while going down. Don't "slam on the brakes". Remember to keep nice, even, pressure on the stop. Not enough pressure, you're going to gain speed. Too much pressure and you'll stop before you make it all the way down and/or your foot will bounce. The biggest thing is to remain calm (I know, I know, easier said than done) and remember, sometimes? You just have to go for it!
Okay, showing my age....but....seriously?! NO ONE else watching this has said ANYTHING about "Grease"? LOL Would love to go skate that path. Once I get my....*drumroll please*....LOLLY'S!!!!!! Finally got the okay to order them from the hubby - now, I just can't decide which color! Go figure....
@@lexiflemming1228 I was thinking..... Taffy (the purple) - with Green Moxi's in the back, orange Luminous in the front, and black stops and laces. (Halloween skates all year round) Poppy (the red) - with teal wheels, laces, and stops. Pool Blue (the darker blue, not the Floss) - with all pink accents. i just got my roller skates a couple days ago and it’s really difficult to turn around while skating 😣 i am really trying my best but i don’t seem to be catching on. But your channel is absolutely amazing! and i love watching your videos! ✨
MystiqueRisingSun yes! but i don’t know until what point i need to adjust my trucks. I also am really trying my best and have tried different ways to turn (turn around toe stop, Mohawks and the one where your in first position)
@@a_debl It takes time to learn all the turns and such. Don't worry about it much, just get out there and roll for now. It will come to you when it's meant to. :) Trucks, however, are a personal thing. If they're too tight, they'll only go straight. You don't want that. Too loose and they'll rattle when you pick your foot up, which is a GREAT way to snap a kingpin or have the truck fall apart, so, yeah, you really don't want that, either. LOL Other than that, however, how tight/loose you set them is up to you. Find a "Point A" and "Point B". Street skating? Pick two speed bumps on your street...two stop signs...live on a short block?, simply go from one end to the other. If you're using a trail and there are obvious markers (mile markers, two benches, two unique bushes, etc.) use those. On a tennis court? Go from the back line on one side to the back line on the other side. Either way, PLAY with your trucks! Take your tool with you. Tighten them ALL the way, then back off about 1/2 of a turn. Skate Point A to Point B and back. Loosen then 1/4 of a turn. Skate from Point A to Point B and back again. Repeat that process until they feel right to you. Also note, you can have them set differently, too. I love having my backs *almost* as tight as they'll go, with a tad bit of wobble in my fronts. My husband likes all 4 as loose as they'll go without that rattle to them. My youngest likes her backs SUPER loose with the fronts about halfway between tight and loose. Etc. Even as a new skater, you'll know when they feel right to you.
@@a_debl Oh boy! Yes, that is going to take some getting used to coming from an inline or ice skating background. With inlines and ice, you're using the edges of the wheels/blades themselves to move. With roller skates, that movement is a trifecta. How tight/loose you have your trucks, cushion hardness, and wheel hardness all play a part in how agile or stable the skate is. You'll get used to it after a few more trips out. :)

Yep!! I'd have to watch it again to pinpoint the exact time the specific area is shown, but yes, the EXACT spot is in there. I have officially watched that movie WAY too many times to count (in my teens, I'd already hit over 5,000 watches). I went out there when I was 12 to visit my aunt...35 years later, still remember like it was yesterday. My aunt was kind enough to take my family out there, I was OBSESSED with finding the exact spot! LOL
Fanny pack (or small backpack) to store stuff - keys, wallet, phone, spare parts/tools, whatever you need while out - and a carabiner clip or two. Two things all outdoor skaters should have.
My feet are fukin massive so skating is kinda outta the question cause i need specific shoes but someones selling an addon to make shes into skates and im so exited even tho its kidna expensive but im so hyped to get them and i hope they fit
@@QueerGirlStraightSkates Please don't. YIKES! We need you in one piece!!!! I know they're Riedell, but they're one of Riedell's cheapest high top models. Tried one at my local rink...lasted 3 laps after adjusting everything to my liking. For the same price, the Candi Girls are 1,000,000 times better! The Waves were scary. (Note: I've been skating for 45 years, I've skated on bunny slippers LOOSELY mounted to a skate plate - long story - and those bunny slippers didn't scare me as much as the Waves did!)

LOL
Are you going to make more videos of skate adventures like this?
Yes! It has been hard recently because of quarantine and the heat wave, but it is definitely in the plan!
check out the socal skate challenge video that I put out two weeks ago :)
Oh good, I love when you and Shove tape your fun adventures! So inspiring! Plus, I love the music and positivity of your videos!
Thank you!!!
PLEASE someone tell me what's the name of the moves at 1:37 & 2:07?
They're like a smooth crisscross in the front but still moving forward.
I miss living in California...
It is pretty awesome here.
What is the name of the second song??🤷🏻♀️😂
I think it's High Hopes by Snake City. Either that or Pressure by Candelion
What you got goin' on there? How do you girls have your shoes attached on the back of your waistband? Please tell me. 😁
They make a fanny packs and I think they're just using a Caribbean clip I'm clipping their flip flops on it to the fanny pack
it's a fanny pack that i just attached everything to!
Fanny pack (or small backpack) to store stuff - keys, wallet, phone, spare parts/tools, whatever you need while out - and a carabiner clip or two. Two things all outdoor skaters should have.
Anybody have a list of the songs/artists featured in this video? Or did I miss the credits somewhere?
Its High Hopes by Snake City
Pressure by Candelion
You Got Me Like by Mindme

My feet are fukin massive so skating is kinda outta the question cause i need specific shoes but someones selling an addon to make shes into skates and im so exited even tho its kidna expensive but im so hyped to get them and i hope they fit
Hey Rebel! Have you heard of the RW WAVE roller skates? If you haven't you should try them out and tell us if you like them or not.😊
I haven't! I will look into them!
How do you not chaff in your thighs ? I just bought skates and I’m worried about that.
I use this thing called her.. It's a chub rub. It works miracles.
