Good stories I love when interviewers ask questions, like what kind of motorcycle did he ride? I ride bikes, and most interviewers wouldn’t ask those detailed questions…
Such a sad story about Carl Radle...and Jim Gordon too, talk about star-crossed men. I am so glad Bobby is still with us, clearly healthy and happy, telling these amazing stories. ❤️❤️
Bobby & Coco, I had posted a comment on another one of y'all's post. Im the one who came by to see the house as it was my grandmother's house for over 50 years and a place we spent most of our childhood as well as adulthood until her passing in 1998. Watching Coco interviewing you I know exactly where you are. I heard Coco mention the breakfast nook. We called it the breakfast room and the room behind Bobby was the TV room...Brings back memories! Hope y'all are enjoying the house and the town. I know my Grandmother and Mother would love to see what y'all have done and would love that it is being taken care of.
Carl was my mentor. I was sixteen and I "played bass". I was sweet on Carl's cousin Lisa Russell, we worked at Looboyle Dept Store in Tulsa, She introduced me to Carl, he was with Leon and Eric when they passed thru the store one day. The rest is history. God bless Carl Radle, he's my hero, I inherited his Alembic bass, I played many gigs with Jamie. Enough said.
Listening to Bobby and CoCo laugh is precious. Think about how many people can't even work up a chuckle. A couple who can laugh together like that will stay together.
Big fan of Carl Radle!! He was very articulate in his playing!! Perfect example is Layla!! He brought so much to the song without bringing attention to himself!! Brilliant and highly underrated!! Love your shirt Bobby!!
I hear and see him hear and see the recalled images like a pretty woman, a red irish setter and a Triumph Motorcycle, and feel blessed to be part of what's taking place Thank you CoCo & Bobby. What wonderful history is unfolding for the ages. xo
My recent album has a song dedicated to Carl. Here is my story. When I was 11 years old I bought a single ticket to see Leon Russell perform at the Philadelphia Spectrum. I arrived a few hours before the show started so that I could get as close to the stage as possible. I was able to find a spot up front right near where the piano was set up. While I was waiting Carl Radle (Leon’s Bassist) walked on stage to check his equipment. When I saw him I yelled as loud as I could “HEY CARL”, he looked over at me I waved, he waved back and left the stage. About two hours later the show started. When Carl walked on stage, he looked over at me waved and smiled. I was so happy, he made my day. This song is dedicated to the memory of Carl Dean Radle. RIP Carl. ruclips.net/video/izqcOP6AORE/видео.html
Coco, Thank you for saving this wonderful American treasure. Like others who did the same, Sharon Osbourne saved Ozzie etc etc. Its the love of a good woman that makes man try to be a better person.
Thank you Bobby for your contributions man! Raised in Jonesboro, Arkansas and a huge blues-rock fan. You make the world a better place and I’m very appreciative
Totally off the subject: I’ve been around friends and co-workers who have had extra-marital affairs my entire life, but the two of you prove what I’ve applied to my own relationships and told others: If you put the same energy into loving each other that it takes to maintain an affair you wouldn’t need or want to be with anyone else. And, contrary to what we’re told, a good relationship IS NOT hard work; it’s an absolute pleasure 24/7. I love the way the two of you love each other, and how you prove every day that it’s not only possible but the most fulfilling way to live.
Great sentiment! However, sometimes things get broken beyond repair I think, at which point to look for something to relieve the loneliness becomes the compelling drive and is really needed. I think everyone needs another important person in their lives, sometimes that can be a best friend who may or not be your SO.
Totally disagree. Sometimes it is work. My rule is give yer spouse first dibs. Before you leave try all the stuff you would do in an affair. If that doesn't work, well you tried. Otherwise you will recreate your bad relationship again,
I love hearing your stories and how you make each other laugh. Just seeing that smile makes me smile too. You are just too sweet and down home to imagine you being the incredible star that you are. It's wonderful that you made it through those years to be able to live your best life now together. Love and the best of life to you both. ❤❤
You came into a bar I was working at a couple years ago. Didn't realize it was "you" at the time. When paying your tab, I noticed the name on the credit card. "Bobby Whitlock? That's the same name as the keyboard player in Derek and the Dominos." I said. You replied, "Thats pretty good, young man." I then told you about how I was an Okie, and a huge fan of the Radle/Gordon rhythm section. I talked your ear off while you grinned. Thank you.
As a big fan of Bobby and CoCo’s posts..and a former professional player of the bass..and an audience member of Eric C’s appearances with John Mayall and subsequent bands...I thought Eric stated that the best rhythm section he ever played with was Carl and Jim.There have been a lot of very high quality musicians in the groups Eric has played with...Jim was a tornado and full of fascinating detail..but Anything I have ever heard from Carl is outstanding..so tasteful and well placed...for want of a better likeness... “ a Rock n’ Roll James Jamerson”
Very sad story, about Carl. i remember when i heard it on the radio that he past away from a drug over dose. i think i mourned for him as well. I certainly was bummed. He was a Super Fine Bass Player, and he was so young.. just tragic... the partying some of us did was really crazy and at times it seemed like i wanted to know when I was playing in a band I was as high as Jimi would have been. especially when we were oh say cought in those blizzard Snow storms in Phoenix, in July, if you know what i mean... you two are adorable. I love you guys. you bring lots of Extra joy into our lives now, = when it is defiantly needed. Thank you !! M.G.
Anthony1158-- Yeah, open the song ‘Layla’ and tune in to what he does between the lyrics, “…nobody’s waitin’ by your side and …just your foolish pride. Two lines, one straight up and one straight down. Three, four octaves?!
When I was in art school I used to sit and listen to lectures on art history. This one teacher named Dahlia used to say: this artist _____ was in the nose cone. Carl Radle was in the nose cone with his bass playing. Right out front. Bless
Nice video as always guys. However the planned Dominoes had to have been earlier. Eric's 1981 album 'Another Ticket' was dedicated to Carl who had died the previous May. Tragic loss....also what happened with Jim (and his poor mother of course). Eric & Bobby are the survivors!
As I'm watching this vid I am half way through Joel Selvin's book Drums & Demons the Jim Gordon story. What you say about Jim Gordon is all in this book. As a drummer I followed what was going on with Jim, and Keltner and Kunkle. It's a good read and I love your vids.
I just heard Bobby talking about Mr. West, the original owner of the house. I can't remember if I told you when I came by that day, but if you look closely at the bedroom door at the top of the back stairs, you can see his daughter's signature embossed in, I think, the middle panel. that house has a lot of stories!
A member of what I consider Clapton's best rythm section, just love how he worked and sounded. He never had the kind of syncopation he did with Radle and crew.
I think - for what my thoughts amount - D and D was the best group of rock musicians ever, just phenomenal. Was only playing the Layla as album today...

Thinking of Mr Radle last night listening to Eric & Leon, had to come back here. Died in '80 so young. I counted 8 LPS with Leon, 8 with Eric, others with you, and Domino's, JJ Cale, Dr John I think, so much He did. Glad yall are together, yall are nutz! (Very quiet lately...my friend & I praying all is well) ✌😎
I swear, i really believe that Bobby is just about the funniest guy that i have ever seen who does not get paid to be funny!...."i have funny hair, when i got up this morning..." His looks over his shoulder...priceless.
I was just watching Jackson Brown on u tube singing Doctor My Eyes in concert....Jim was on drums....then look him up and read on wiki his parole hearing was supposed to be last month ....strange
Jim was a paranoid schizophrenic and tragically attacked and killed his mother. Its such a shame but its probably best that jim never be released from the mental health facility. The man could play those drums though, damn fine drummer but his demons got the best of him.
Good Mourning! You are a hoot Bobby Whitlock. So you were a rock star with a rash and couldn’t take advantage of the perks? That would be the ultimate torture. Coco, you ask great questions which really gives us a sense of being there.
Nice to hear a bit of banter involving Carl....Just his face I don’t know looks like a peaceful soul..sad the demons...got to him...may have been a sensitive individual...Been away dealing with my Bell’s palsy ..a month already...swear from covid shot on me anyway..You guys a great tandem a scrapbook of madness...
funny I was just listening to Leon Russell and the shelter people holy shit Carl's bass playing was just fantastic on that. Don't know when you guys are coming back hope everything's all right many people are wondering.
Great listening to the story's, I was always sad about Carl . I never was a Delany fan but loved Carl's bass playing . Thank you guys for sharing memories with us fans... ~ T
So nice to come by and listen to you Bobby and CoCo , it's been awhile. As usual it's amazing how it's JUST like having a cup of coffee with you guys, so thankful that you let us into your "coffee nook" First of all, thank God that you rescued the house from those people who wanted to take out the doors etc., it's really your sanctuary I can tell. So wow, certainly a dark subject about Carl Radle's last days. Bobby thanks for putting Eric firing everybody via Ma Bell in context. I hadn't really considered his viewpoint as an act of saving himself from the craziness. I felt really bad for Carl and wondered how EC could fire such a longtime, trusted bassist who had been with him forever, but things end. I had no idea that you offered to get the Dominos back together and had Gordon onboard only to have Radle refuse to do it. That's a shame...It also makes me sad to hear you talk about Kate Poorboy CoCo and how much she really loved him. Sometimes love just isn't enough. Of course even though you guys were talking about some intense subjects, you always manage to get back to some laughter. CoCo the comment you made on the "Clinging" idea of Bobby's cracked me up--Clinging.....I think you like that, you're a romantic-ha ha! You two are something else--thanks for the smiles! Hair a knockin' indeed!
Be honest and then listen to folks even when they mumble and don't think anyone is listening and you'll hear a world of "The Clingies" all around and inside each of U.S. social isolates. The extroverts and class clown or life of the party, clowns for sure those are truly the loneliest (inside) and clingiest of all....
Clingy? It’s ok Coco you two are cute together... thank you for ending on an up note. PS looking good Bobby. My hair was gone years ago and I’ve never looked back... 😮🎶😎
Wow I had the same kind of rash on the back of my leg and it ran up the inside of my leg and up the crack of my rear end.it kinda looked like ring worm or something and I had it for years and could not get rid of it and it was like it would get worse the more I washed it and I stopped smoking pot and changed a few more things in my life and it went away In a couple of days.i also had athletes foot at the same time and I put lotreman ultra on my feet and the rash as well and it went away In about 3 days.its weird to that everyone I know that smokes pot has a bad case of athletes foot.it has to be something in it that causes you to have athletes foot from smoking weed, love the channel you guys.you guys are definitely beutiful people and I'd love to find love like you guys have.its so uplifting to sit back and watch. Cheers from Tennessee guys.id love to see you guys in a live jam or something soon.maybe you guys can put something together like that on your channel for us fans to watch.much love and peace,be safe and stay well y'all 🤓🎸🎩🤘😎😷
A while back I read an article about Jim Gordon. That was before I found your channel. It said he's had parole hearings scheduled and has refused to show up for them. If I remember correctly, his next one is in Oct 2022. I was shocked when I read about it all. Families where some one is murdered have a high suicide rate among the remaining members. Yeah Good Morning.
Good Morning with my cup of Joe. Congrats on your move to what looks to be a rambling country house.I agree on the no carpeting. Wood floors are the best. Bobby my number 1 twin disc LP is the Layla and Assorted Love Songs. I play it at least once a week.Be careful with those Texas snakes!!!
Congratulations on y'alls new home - I think y'all made a good decision to stay in Texas. Carl is one of my top five favorite bass players. As for Jimmy Karstein, have you been in touch with him at all? Back in the mid 90's there was a band out of Oklahoma that Jimmy liked and he would frequently come with them over to Fayetteville, Arkansas when they would play here. It took a little while to convince me that it was really Karstein, he was so unassuming! Anyway, glad y'all are back and doing well. The love y'all have for one another is wonderful and it comes through in these chats. Thanks again!
Karstein was quiet and unassuming on tour, which I got to experience when I booked small Pacific NW swings for Christine Lakeland that sometimes her hub, John Weldon (dba J.J.) Cale would sit in on and even bring his own touring coach to give Christine and her band The Code a break from touring in a van. Karstein was a very subtle drummer and percussionist playing with perhaps the most touch-sensitive players in the rock-aligned biz at the time in Cale and Lakeland. Yet that quiet and unassuming totally delightful Jim Karstein had a sense of humor as sharp as anybody in Second City or on SCTV. Sure have missed being in touch with him since I moved up from Bay Area to PoTown, Ore. Perhaps you are thinking of the Red Dirt Rangers that Jim Karstein drummed with when schedules allowed and he was back based in Tulsa again after his west coast years? The whole Tulsa crew and Christine's friends from west coast and No Cal also were refreshingly funny and comfortable to hang with, talking and sharing music, stories and hysterical blooper stories of the high and mighty in the biz as the fans each of 'em were in their own right and with their own particular often peculiar tastes. A real lively change from the difficult show biz types, often narcissists that I more commonly met writing about and then doing some booking or other projects for while I tried to hawk my own work and scribblings. Karstein, Christine and The Code and Cale's Tulsa circle were regular folk off-stage and to my ears as interesting to hear playing live as the jazz and ethnic music players I often was out and about being inspired by. Also, despite being fun and comfortable to joke around with, onstage each was such a good listener which made their uniquely good taste and poetics all the more apparent in their performances which always featured sublime interplay. I knew about Mr Gordon’s peccadilloes and ultimate “faux pas”🙄🥹 from previous music biz talk; however, I am speechless about Carl Radle… The experience had to have touched you because you are a sensitive man. Why is it that people like him are able to sequester themselves from friends who could/would/should help them? I have no answers… Thank you for sharing stories. Thank you for ending it with a laugh!😊🎸👨🏼⚕️🏴🇺🇸🏴😎
Thank you both for being so honest, good natured, and open i feel like I almost know you. I wonder why so many talented musicians have such deep mental or emotional problems? Maybe same percentage as the general population? A Carl question: did he use a pick, fingers, or both?
Thank you Bobby. I am a guitarist and bass player since the 70s. I too sense that there are times when I'm alone and the sadness is unbearable. Other times everything seems funny and hilarious to me. I don't think a person can change that very much. I am trying to level things out a bit though. No alcohol or drugs for me, and that helps to avoid the highs and lows I think.
I enjoy listening to your studies about that time Bobby! I enjoyed those tunes and always thought they couldn’t have been more awesome! I was in Tulsa, when that happened to Carl Radle and remember feeling the sadness of loosing someone that was so talented! I think it is awesome that you and Coco are sharing your stories! Thank you! Still playing guitar and always will!
Im hooked. Layla has been my favorite album forever and now i can't quit watching these videos 😅.
Thanks Bobby and Coco for these wonderful stories!

I would love to you both perform sometime before I'm gone.
I was just watching Jackson Brown on u tube singing Doctor My Eyes in concert....Jim was on drums....then look him up and read on wiki his parole hearing was supposed to be last month ....strange
It was denied.
He was denied again in March
@@bobwest5866 Thanks for the update, Bob!
Jim was a paranoid schizophrenic and tragically attacked and killed his mother. Its such a shame but its probably best that jim never be released from the mental health facility. The man could play those drums though, damn fine drummer but his demons got the best of him.
Geez, twenty five years with psoriasis. I had that for two years on my arms and that sucked.
Ya'll told some sad and tragic stories and then a happy one. Bless you two
Love from the PNW
P.S. Those doors are worth the price of admission
Little bit of everything is this video. Everything but a cat or dog photobombing us in the background, lol
The down side of good peripheral vision: when your own hair sticking out can frighten you
two natural loving people; beautiful
The greatest bass player at the time..... Carl Radle
Good Mourning! You are a hoot Bobby Whitlock. So you were a rock star with a rash and couldn’t take advantage of the perks? That would be the ultimate torture. Coco, you ask great questions which really gives us a sense of being there.
Good morning from Washington state! It is beautiful here! Especially in the summer. You should definitely vacation here at least!
Is there a room that screams "Set up a music studio here"because of the sound of it?
You 2 are GR8😎👍
😎👍❤🖖
Love folks
You Two are Awesome!
Hi Glenn
My dad has bells palsy, its definitely tough to deal with but keep your head up man!
Love you two!! And his laugh is the best!
Love to hear you two laugh together!
funny I was just listening to Leon Russell and the shelter people holy shit Carl's bass playing was just fantastic on that.
Don't know when you guys are coming back hope everything's all right many people are wondering.
The Letter!
Thanks for making me laugh man , you’re cracking me up. Bobby you’ve got a killer laugh that tells me exactly who you are.
Great listening to the story's, I was always sad about Carl . I never was a Delany fan but loved Carl's bass playing . Thank you guys for sharing memories with us fans... ~ T
If you listen to Claptons singing early on,you will hear Delaney...
You guys make my day!
Hope you two are doing well.
Karstein was quiet and unassuming on tour, which I got to experience when I booked small Pacific NW swings for Christine Lakeland that sometimes her hub, John Weldon (dba J.J.) Cale would sit in on and even bring his own
touring coach to give Christine and her band The Code a break from touring in a van. Karstein was a very subtle
drummer and percussionist playing with perhaps the most touch-sensitive players in the rock-aligned biz at the time in Cale and Lakeland.

Bobby, I could listen to you give an insurance seminar.
yep, agreed
@@vickyvlrich I'd rather he not!
@@ulpana love to listen to Bobby's storytelling
Both, but mostly his fingers.
And too, artists have a propensity to have extreme ups and downs.
It's just how we're wired
Thank you Bobby. I am a guitarist and bass player since the 70s. I too sense that there are times when I'm alone and the sadness is unbearable. Other times everything seems funny and hilarious to me. I don't think a person can change that very much. I am trying to level things out a bit though. No alcohol or drugs for me, and that helps to avoid the highs and lows I think.
Cant wait to see more of that house!!
Funny hair but great shirts!!!
I remember hearing about that, when Carl Radle over-dosed! Bless you Bobby Whitlock!
