He was talking about prescription pills that Doctors prescribed for depression, pain etc and how they make you feel zoned out. He was not talking about abusing drugs like coke etc just for the sake of feeling better
He may have been referring to that specifically. ... but people do abuse other drugs and alcohol to also deal with depression and anxiety etc etc... with the same results, and much worse...
So I think it's fair to say it could resonate with people who also have dealt with that... and not just prescribed meds
This can relate to many different things for many different people, both interpretations are valid and nobody other than the artist himself can say exactly what he was talking about

When Chinchilla sings her first line, 'Sertraline and a sip of seratonin', she's talking about depression. Sertraline is an antidepressant and it helps raise seratonin in the brain (the happy hormone). As a person who deals with depression, I can tell you sertraline can often make you feel like a zombie, but it helps when you can't stop crying from depression.

He isn’t talking about an addiction to illegal drugs. As a person with bipolar disorder this song resonates 100%. The medications can make you feel rough sometimes but your choices are limited. Either take medication & your life spirals out of control, or find a combination that works & is tolerable & allows you to live a relatively normal life
Dominos is a personal favourite, very real and true to life.
And if you look up Ren Gill Patients 2016 ME you will see a younger Ren the longer version has a wee interview before he sings 👍. ✌️♥️🏴
I don’t think everyone feels the same not all get the same from music for me it can absolutely strip my breath away like my stomach and breathing flutter as I get chills when someone is as talented as these two and the voices are so powerful and pure there’s no lies in the feelings it’s incredible ❤❤
".......take this one, wash it down and you' ll be fine........there's a pill for everything...." is what the doctors tell Ren & Chinchilla....they sing this duet with sarcasm and disgust.....it is their commentary on the quality of care they receive from the mental health 'professionals' and how they no longer feel like themselves.......

The first time i watched Chalk Outlines, i had kinda felt kind of an "old soul" feel in Chinchilla's voice on her first verse... only to find out that one of her musicial inspirations is Aretha Franklin... .. yup totally makes sense now :) - Love ya'll's reaction videos!! keep em commin!!!!

They are referring to prescribed medication. A lot of Ren’s problems during his illness were created by his treatment and medication he was given.
You/we actually don't need any other artist in our lives. There's something for absolutely everyone across all of Ren's work. No-one in the history of music/art/entertainment has achieved that. Ever.
Definitely a song about depression. Sertraline is an antidepressant that increases seratpnin. You want off those meds SO badly, but then can't handle how much things affect you. Life is heavy...

@@Codex7777 Please check your facts before posting, both Chinchilla and Ren have confirmed Chalk Outlines is a co-write in their socials, it's credited on streaming sites as being writen by both Ren and Chinchilla, and was produced by Ren, Chinchilla and Russell Church for the studio version and Ren and Chinchilla for the live version. There are even pictures on their social media taken of them jointly producing their work together.
Ren uses X in the song description, meaning 'with', when its is a collab piece (as with Sam, Chinchilla, etc.), and ft./feat. when an artists has been invited in to sing Ren's lyrics.
@@AllRandomOutcomes X just means featuring, Ren wrote both their official collaborations, Chalk Outlines and How to be Me.

I think your interpretations sort of missed the mark. Song references the prescriptions doctors prescribe for mental health. The side effects of these medications can , for many people, make them feel disconnected from themselves this the rerm Chalk Outlines (that people feel like they are just a shell of themselves when on such medication.l). Drug abise is a different topic and a very, very good song to react to about that would he Benjamin Tod doingbhos song Using Again a reflection of himself at some of his darker moments with addiction.
If I may add one small piece of perspective to your faith. It's where the big religions lose many. So from my moment of near death, here's a small golden pebble to be dropped into your pond.
Where organized religions run into issues. When a person says, the one true god and then attaches the dogma of their faith to what comes next. This is trying to put an infinite existence into a cage. Trying to erect walls around that which can not be housed. God, the sum of all existence all things yes? yes. God is a symbiont being, as are we. For example, we have three different species of insect living just on our eyelashes. 3. Our bodies are home to thousands of microorganisms.
And what does your good book say? We were made in his image, as in heaven???
Ok so the celestial body meaning the sum of all existence is infinite but also a symbiont being made up of thousands of different-sized organisms and species.
What is common to all species? There is a direct correlation between their size, life span, & frequency of heartbeat & voice. If you record the jungle the large animals have a low tone for communication, a longer life span, and a slow heart rate and as you move down in the size of the creature, the heart rate speeds up and the life span shortens. Ok now stay with me for just a bit more.
If we step back and see that all things have intelligent design, and all things communicate in a variety of ways, including touch, scent, sight, use of color, behavior, tone etc.
And as suspected whenever mankind is certain they understand the limits to where and how life can exist, But what happens every time we are finally able to travel somewhere and remain the for some time, we discover that there's life flourishing there. And if there's life everywhere, Then we must conclude that energy is the intelligent force in the universe and humans simply have cognitive learning skills. In Short, we have the ability to remember. So we are not the intelligent force in the universe, it's energy or the universe itself that is intelligent.
Now, let's go back to "as in Heaven as on earth", so it would stand to reason "as is everywhere else in the universe" This means that the universe is a giant Let's use the term, pool of fluid energy and matter, that conscious can shape and for to their will.
Now if you just let these concepts brew for a while what you'll see is that an infinite being can manifest communication with every species in on its body in infinite ways. Hence the issue with attaching dogma that states it is only through our faith that one can have a relationship with an infinite being. You know the Tree of Life right? well, this is also true with our faith and conscious.
Whereas when enough energy is focused on something it comes to be true. Just like we invented virtual realities. So can we create realities? So in the infinite version of the universe, it doesn't matter if it is true at first or if was imagination. After people invest their time, effort, and lives then that small tiny stick of faith grows into a massive branch that supports several branches of faith. All becoming true over time and energy. But yet they are all still within one universe, one celestial body, one god.
Yet there are an infinite number of conscious beings that inhabit and communicate throughout every microbe of the universe, they just do so in frequencies that we can not perceive.
Imagine with the size and life span of our mother Earth what her frequency of communication would sound like, and a single word would take over a thousand years if she were communicating with her celestial brothers and sisters.
However, we did discover that every 8 minutes there is a burst of energy and a particle exchange between the Earth and the sun. Kinda like blood pumping through an artery.
But we as humans are wired to a very different frequency and we do not possess the ability to perceive such a language. We can imagine it and we can even possibly detect it in some way. But it is outside of our nature to perceive the intelligence behind it.
So here is the thesis statement to all this, if you're with me thus far? Whether Jesus was real or not I can accept this is one branch of connection that reaches toward the light to absorb its energy. And to those who live on that branch Christians, Lutherans, Baptists, etc. The notion that it is only through Jesus that you can reach the light is true. for that branch is his. But so too is this true for Islam,, Judaism, Hinduism and etc. For humanity on this planet is the tree that we coexist on. So everyone is right, and everyone is wrong all at the same time. What does this sound like? An Infinite being, with infinite levels of conscious, and an infinite number of connections and relationships to itself.
Now I'm not sure what Rens faith is, but I suspect there are a lot of humans who believe something similar to this. And after my near death where I was touched by the light, this is the foundation of the belief system that I awoke with.
I don't know if this made sense to anyone or I just rambled on for far too long about something I am no expert in, nor have I ever tried to put in writing.
But this is one of the big issues I have with the people who belong to these major religions, They can only see the universe from the perspective of the branch they exist on and they dismiss and look down on everyone else.
But trust the universe no energy is wasted and no soul is severed. Nothing you believe is wrong, but yet it can be for anyone not on your branch.
Girl has clearly lived a very sheltered life and can’t relate. Jesus saves is her motto and she hasn’t seen the other side. The dude looks like maybe he has. I don’t like fake reactions and this had a bit of it but not completely. Thanks for the video

I know, he has a beautiful voice, wonderful lyrics, is multi-talented in every genre and plays a handful of instruments excellent. Who would want to listen to that, unless you are.......jealous. Ren has a song called "seven sins", it would cover that one.
