    I feel like if all monks can use all non heavy non special weapons Kinsei should get all weapons or at least remove the heavy limitation. I want to have a glaive! The Monk's Spade absolutely would be run as a glaive, but also is probably unique enough it'd be worth actually having its own classificaiton.

    quickened healing has been a great help, normaly as a monk without a very generouse support your Hit die are in a constant state of depleation in long dungeons but my time in Dungeon of the Mad mage has been dramatically less stressful since we implimented the tashas cauldron rules this time around, making the monk feel more like a long distance endurance fighter, no matter how bad things get the monk is good tl go after a power nap when most others are gasping for spell slots and class features.

    The best thing to come from Dedicated Weapon is the Whip. The weapon finally has relevance, monks now have a reach weapon (outside of Kensei) and... it's a frigg'n whip!
    Great content, btw. Best of luck in growing your channel.

    • @sandrols7
      @sandrols7 3 года назад

      IF you somehow have whip proficiency. The only way to gain that is to invest in the weapon Master feat, which.... why would you do that?
      It really isn't a good feat, if you ask me, because not all races have innate weapon proficiencies. Those that don't are practically missing a feature others would.

    • @danboud8135
      @danboud8135 3 года назад

      @@sandrols7 Yeah, was pretty bummed on rereading DW that it doesn't actually grant Proficiency and that it's an actual requirement. A pity really. My guess is that this actually tries to promote multiclassing with monks (taking a class that grants those proficiencies) rather than taking that feat which, as you rightly say, isn't really worth it.

    • @davidstratton696
      @davidstratton696 8 месяцев назад

      That and Ki-Fueled Attack as well. So since Focused Aim is u spending a ki point then that means u can make an additional attack with your bow as a bonus action which otherwise u wouldn’t have unless u used a hand crossbow and picked the crossbow mastery feat (which if Ki-Fueled Attack wasn’t a thing then this feat wouldn’t be bad to pick up on a Monk who uses a bow since the dmg on a hand crossbow scales). And even if u hit your attacks u can then just use deft strike when u hit to add to the dmg which also uses ki so that’s Ki-Fueled Attack again. These abilities added so much to the ranges Kensei. If only they got more that made them just as good at melee since they can’t get Great Weapon Master since that requires u to use a heavy weapon (which honestly Kensei’s shouldn’t have that limitation especially now that all Monk’s get Dedicated Weapon). Just let a Kensei Monk swing a Greatsword I say.

    I’m playing a Monk in an OOTA game and the dedicated weapon feature allowed me to use Dawnbringer as a monk weapon, even though Dawnbringer is finesse and short sword proficiency counts for her she is technically a long sword, so no bonus action attacks because it was not a monk weapon, now my monk has befriended the blade and multiclassed into Paladin. So that feature not only allowed me to use an awesome weapon but opened up rp and really changed the direction of my character. Great video, never thought of quickened healing as a short rest thing.

    Ki points are a huge issue for monks and all I see are ways of spending more ki. You end your typical campaign with your character at around the 10th or the 15th level which means you should be grateful if you can achieve quivering palm (one of the only things that add a good amount of power to your monk class in a combat scenario) in 1 big campaign.

    • @WintryRPG
      @WintryRPG  3 года назад +2

      Good points! But i believe it's a misconception that damage is supposed to be a monk's strong point - Stunning Strike in particular from a DM's standpoint is always a tide-turning ability. I think most monks are most powerful between lvls 5-10, before legendary resistances begin to kick in. :P

    • @yaboi1288
      @yaboi1288 3 года назад

      @@WintryRPG Yeah, monks tend to be more suited to fight with only 1 enemy. But if the DM is going to throw only 1 creature at the party, it is going to have a high CR and as the CR moves up, there will be lots of creatures who get huge bonuses to their CONS saves which reduces the odds of a stunning strike landing by a lot (Let's say they have a +10 to CONS saves which a lot of 9 CR and above creatures have. The best you can get with the ki DC is 19 which is at level 17 + max WIS. So even with the best specs you can bring to the table, you are dealing with a 45% chance of success against a 9 CR a more likely counter would be with ancient dragons where they have +15/+16 CONS save that makes 20%/15% chance. So its existence doesn't make sense unless if you are going to use it against multiple lower-level monsters which is less impressive and burns a lot of ki.

      @yaboi1288 3 года назад +2

      @@WintryRPG When you think of a monk, you would imagine a frontline class that would go close and personal with the enemy although they are not good at tanking or pouring out DPR. Monks stay at an awkward place when it comes to combat where they are not bad but they don't have any strong suit. (Every other class can outdo a monk in their field) but what they are good at in my opinion is utility. They have slow fall, they are immune to poison and diseases, they can travel on liquids and walk on vertical surfaces, they can communicate with any creature that can utilize a language, they are fast and agile, they are not reliant on weapons or gear (which is amazing in situations where you are taken hostage and they take all your stuff away)

    This all makes Monks better but it doesn’t do enough to make them good. If I want to play a Monk who deals good damage then I’m pretty much locked to playing a Mercy Monk (ironically) or a Kensei Monk. My biggest problem with the class is that Unarmed Strikes deal lousy damage and none of these features do anything to fix that. I want to play a Monk who’s as deadly as their hands as the would be with a weapon and that’s just not possible for some reason.

    • @user-pi8pi3wj7h
      @user-pi8pi3wj7h 3 года назад +2

      their damage scales up as they level, and there are many ways to boost the damage of your attacks. As someone who plays an astral monk, trust me, you can do consistent amounts of damage and that only gets better with time. YOU make your monk, don't wait for your monk to be made for you.

    The changes were nice, but frankly Monk needs to just get overhauled. The class is MAD up the wazoo and has a botched action economy. They need to at least make you less dependent on high rolls to actually match the other classes before Monk gains any real relevancy.

    • @unwithering5313
      @unwithering5313 3 года назад

      They should make AC increase at certain levels or utilize Proficiency Bonus instead of Wisdom for Unarmoured Defence; homebrewing some 'Monk Armour' at later levels could also work; it's so simple even Fighter Man from Crap Guide to D&D can do that.
      They should probably have a d10 Hit Die because less opportunity to maximise Constitution effectively makes you as durable as a lower Hit Dice class.
      I once had the least health in my team; barley having just over half the Wizard's health (dang random rolls), this is different now due to multi-classing but my point still stands.

      I saw a homebrew overhaul of the Monk that did the AC thing like that, actually. Goes by the ruling of AC=11+DEX+Proficiency bonus, and it's pretty solid.
      As for the rest, I agree wholeheartedly, a d10 would be great hit dice for the Monk. I would also propose upgrading the Martial Arts die by a tier(so starting at a d6 and ending at a d12), to give unarmed monks actual damage.
