In-fact all of the Dragon Ball franchises have done this. The three batman series that are connected to each other. BTAS he is in his 30s, JLU, 40's, and Batman Beyond he's in his 80s. Doug aged and advanced grades in school to help represent that. The Lion King not only shows Simba growing up in the first film but the later films even show him maturing even more and becoming a father and clearly getting older. The reason why shows don't tend to do this isn't because people don't like it, it's that it changes the show radically as now the personality of the character has to come with meaningful growth as well. Which changes the entire format of the show. Boy meets world a live action show is a great example of this. As the main cast grows they started having storylines more fitting to their age and being more relatable to that age group. Challenge the writers and have meaningful character growth through aging, it's a positive thing.
Multiple universes exist in the show, so they don't even have to try to sound as close as possible to the originals. There have to be versions of them that have completely different voices.

If you've seen the behind the scenes content, and read what some of the team have come forward with since this incident, it seems like Justin was someone they'd been waiting for a good reason to fire for years. It's sad, and I feel for him as a creator, but it reminds me of John K with Ren & Stimpy. Some people can be genius artists, but horrible to work with, and toxic af to put up with in a professional environment. This seems more like a last straw situation. But hopefully the truth prevails and justice is served whether he's guilty or innocent.

His Rick is so close, but it’s missing the rasp in the treble area. He is missing that tiny higher-pitched sound that we know Justin has in all of his voices, but covers up when he does Rick. But it’s so damn good, I’m not trying to criticize him at all.
All these people ITT don't realize that Roiland is a big part of the brains behind the show. Not only is his style extremely unique, but never has the gap between material and portrayal been so small in that he can voice it exactly as intended by someone who is a big part of the creative process (himself). It'll be extremely difficult to find someone who can do a good impression of the voices AND come up with new ideas for the show that fit with the show's vibe.
