You're still my favorite photographer of all time and I always swing by your channel to get inspired, even all these years later. I hope you're alright.
Heh. I have worked in UVR off an on, and only tried UVF one time. (with minimal research). This video gave me some good points where the two techniques differ and I probably messed up.
Could I filter the lens rather than the flash to capture uvivf fluorescence? I have converted a Vivitar 286 to full spectrum. I also have a full spectrum converted Canon 60d. If I stack a Schott S8612 filter and a U-340 on the lens while firing the flash uncovered will I achieve the same results?
Thanks for video, sir. Been watching you for years! Thanks for all your videos! I am a macro photographer an am going to move to Reno, NV. Like to try photographing scorpions, using ultra violet light. Wish me luck, lol
do I really need to use sunscreen when I'm shining 2 UVA torchlight towards a plant? I mean is it really worse than going to the beach? after all, if I don't get a "sunburn" it means it was less 'stressfull' for my skin than going outside. I got a 2xUvBeast V3 365 nm torchlight, but now I'm scared to use them lol
hey! Maybe ridiculous question - If I put a UV sensor on a drone and flew it over a field of flowers, would I be able to see anything or do I have to have an UV emitter as well? Notice, that don't want necessarily to create a photograph only but I want to see how the flower patterns distribute over space
I interpret you talking about Reflective UV photography, not UVIVF. The sun emits UV-A light for certain, so yes, if you had a camera sensor that was only recording UV frequencies, the flowers and whatever else that reflect UV frequencies would show up on the sensor. If you are talking about UVIVF, it would need to be done at night, and you would need an extremely extremely powerful UV lightsource to see anything.
interesting, i got to set up some low cost testing scheme. Since only UV-A goes through the atmosphere we would need some kind of sensor that would be have a very good spectral resolution in this area. Thanks!
+hingeslevers You should see the price on UV corrected lenses. I have a couple lenses that just _happen_ to not shift much across UV-VIS-IR, but ones that are built for it, that actually accept autofocus... pricy little toys. UVR is a bigger pain in the ass than UVF even.
Hey, I'm asking this while I'm watching the video, so I'm sorry if it's already said, but I want to make a photoshoot with UV lights on model, is it dangerous for people or the skin?
Not related at all but, if you play the video from 3:35, to about 3:47, with your iPhone about 12" away, Siri asks 'What can I help you with'? I've done this a dozen times now, it works every time. WTF?
So do you just need a filter to add to a flashlight essentially to make it a UV flashlight? If so, I was thinking of something extreeeeme like say adding that UV filter onto a spotlight (40,000 candlewatts). I know thats extreme overkill but it would completely light up everything sooo vibrantly in UV that it would just look so much more badass than any other 'flashlight', since its a flashlight on steroids.. Please let me know man, I rrrrrreeeeally want to do this just as bad as you do!!
Hello. The unfiltered Flashlight should be same or more dangerous than the light, the source contains all waves. I think it cannot be more dangerous for skin. Or i'am wrong thinking? The only real danger i see with this, is that you can look to much or long in it without pain, so yout eyes getting toasted. The filter only cannot producing some extra uv-energy. The strobe without filter should be much more dangerous for eyes and skin, shouldn't it???
Man, please be more regular. I'm watching a lot of photo channels but most of them discuss about photo gear which is quite boring and few of them (You included) discuss photo techniques.
It is funny your a photographer but you do not know how that beanie makes your hear look! Maybe you were going for the daddy ran over my head when i was younger look? I live next to the best photographer of all times! Jessie Eastland! You can check his pics out on wikipedia. Just messing with ya!

Great video. Came for the explanation on the filters and found myself watching the whole thing. Thanks!
Thanks Evan. Great video!
p.s. I'm glad you made it out of the Snowpiercer.
where have you been dude ? nice video btw
So happy to see you back !
Yes! Been waiting to see you come back! So excited! Can't wait to see more!
Great insight. Thanks for making such an effort with this video, including all the thoughtful health & safety, much appreciated.
Nice tutorial. Which white balance do you use?
Heh. I have worked in UVR off an on, and only tried UVF one time. (with minimal research). This video gave me some good points where the two techniques differ and I probably messed up.
Pretty cool info! Thx
Interesting video, BTW, how to set the right white balance for the UV-induced visible fluorescence photography if we don't have UV grey card?
Have you ever tried using shortwave UV on leaves in autumn? Does it produce any interesting effects?
So happy your back! Love your videos
Great video thank you. Keep the stuff up.

Quality> quantity nice to see you back though!:)
Doctor Ewan stroke again ! ...well done.
i was wondering if you are able to do the same thing with the godox ad200
Love your videos, man.
dude I'm glad your back 😊
Fascinating. I wound up here in search of how I might look to my bird. Now I am even moe curious.
What UV/Infrared filter do you recommend?
Thanks
yaaassss, do you understand there are hundreds if not thousands of youtubers who wait for an upload...
Is a uv torch safe for sfx make up?
If my Sony A-1 has been modified of UV, do I still need safety glasses when looking through the EVF /or LCD screen?
heeeey you are back !!!!
Finally !! after such a long wait . . . You kind of look old
I use to shoot a lot of infrared film years ago.
Missed your crazy stuff
Very good video, thanks a lot - bit scared of exposure now...!
Thanks for share this knowlwdge!!! 🤩
Do you have a solution for studio mono lights?
What is the white balance on your camera? Or how take you your white balance? By grey card?
Thanks for video, sir. Been watching you for years! Thanks for all your videos! I am a macro photographer an am going to move to Reno, NV. Like to try photographing scorpions, using ultra violet light. Wish me luck, lol
+Mike Williams That sounds very cool. Come back here and comment when you've gotten some images and show us!
Np, I sure will!
Really nice video!!! KEEP IT UP!!

cool vid man
You are great! I use the same technique! ^-^
You're the best person.
Thanks for sharing

Wow awesome video =) keep going!
I don't see the links to the gear. Am I missing something?
Awesome. Jeez the price on those filters though...

Amazing video!! Could you send me the free that you mentioned and the e-book please?

Thanks a Million!
I am planning on trying this out, but i wanted to make sure all i need to buy is the Canon Speedlite 199A flash and the U 340 + S8612?
Correct. You may need to purchase a UV-Blocking filter for the front of the lens, but chances are it will not be necessary.
why uv laser are banned in canada?

No - a regular flashlight you buy at some common local store will most likely not emit any UV light, only visible light and maybe IR light.
Does only the Canon 199a flash do UV? or do all flashes? Getting a 199a where I live is pricey
+Dylan Lindley lots of others can but I have not tested. There is a list of others on the blog post

I heard you can go backwards in time with UV-D. 🙄

this sucks, i have the 199a and it doesnt wana fire
You need good UV filter otherwise you get bluish image.
Can you filming a SOUL with your camera ?!?!? Or you have tried to experiment that ?!?!?
shit , i thought this is a photoshop tutorial ...
