the new Sea Q homage from Seestern is more than just a new movement. an upgrade worthy of the $50 price increase. Get the watch here: s.click.aliexp...
I paid ~US$200 for the S435 in Stainless Steel w/bracelet, with the blue face/blue bezel and SeaGull 2130 movement. It arrived today and I sized it for my 8in wrist (required the removal of 1 link). The watch arrived...perfect in every respect with zero quality issues. Bezel alignment, applied indices alignment, bezel action, movement accuracy...this watch really impresses. Highly recommend the S435.
The shorter rehaut is such an underrated benefit on the new version. I have an sn021 with the shorter rehaut and it feels so much more premium. Something that is tough to notice on video but on wrist it is very noticeable and appreciated.
@@tendousj which watches actually have lumed date wheels though? I've had all different price point watches including luxury and none have had liked date wheels.
Got a black s435 after reading your comments on Reddit. Love this model. It is my daily black diver now, even over my proxima px1697 in black. The new case and crystal are beautiful and the high beat movement is a nice upgrade. Nice review as always
The ETA 2824 and the various clones out there cannot be over-wound as the mainspring doesn't hook to the drum of the barrel. I would guess you had a movement in the past that had some other issues rather than an over-wind. Great review of the revamped Sea-Q homage! I may have to add that to my collection 🤔👍
@@Yucel99 My first sentence was neither positive nor negative just a statement about modern mainsprings and that they slip inside the barrel which prevents overwind which can occur in manual wind movements. Marshall mentioned at the beginning he'd experienced "overwind" in this movement before.
I think he's talking about the brass ratchet wheels found in 2824 based movements (even SW-200-1 which was supposed to fix it). Those break easily if you handwind often. Check out the video from Grimwood Watch Modding about the issue.
@@tomcruz3774 got it, yes if the reversers are sticking and you have to resort to hand winding the ratchet wheel could shear some teeth. It is interesting that when servicing the ETA2824 that ETA recommends replacing the reversers and oscillating-weight bearing. These parts can be cleaned and lubricated but not to factory spec.
To me he refers to the issue of the rotor spinning when winding a 2824, thus putting mechanical stress. A known issue. It can happen when manually winding a 2824 too often or just because of age, as I had this issue with a Squale, when they were still using old stocks despite almost never winding it. Or maybe it was used, who knows. So it's indeed not ideal to unintentionnaly wind it every time you set the time.
I like the new update except for the crown. An onion crown is more at home on an aviation or dress watch than a diver. Although I can see why they went with this style because the taper allows a bigger grip on a thinner case.
Thanks for the great comparison. I still plan on picking up a S434 in the future. It’s literally one of the best value dive watches on sale IMO. Thanks!
I prefer this new one too 😍 5:15 "you could break the movement" : you can't because this is an automatic so there is no "stop", no overwinding possible. These watches have an infinitely-slipping mainspring 😉
@@gilbertoflores7397 yes but the question is can you damage it on an automatic movement 🤔 I just did like 80 turns by hand on my watch with a Seiko NH35 and there is absolutely no resistance. Maybe it is only the case with very few automatic movements ?
@@GalorOffroad you're definitely going to mess up that moment, after about 20 turns there is a bit of resistance telling you to stop, you can keep winding, but you're going to ruin it's long term usage doing stuff like that. That's a sweet looking watch. What's up with the crown? Is it the crown that has the issue, or is the stem too long or short. There was a San Martin with a manual wind ST1901 that had that same issue with the crown. Since the SM was a manual wind, the crown could break the main spring.
It's not uncommon to find crowns that do this. It's not a huge deal, really...you won't ever overwind and break this watch like the manual ST19. It just would have been nice to carry-over that spring loaded crown, especially considering the movement.

@@Stanjara If You have eyes - You can see it I mean 10-2-line is not parallel of 8-4-line I have blue-gold version of s434. It's obvious, especially at night
Damn, yet another QC issue for Seestern. Looking online every image of the 434/435 has the same issue, the 2 is not parallel with the 10. It’s slightly higher. Also the 1 in the 12 is slightly higher than the 2. I’m really considering this watch, but all the QC issues really turn me off.
