Truth is we've all heard this piece at some point but it's gonna blow up because of Takt op destiny. Either way , love how the love for classical music is being spread!
that’s why i’m here, lol i was aware of what this song was as i regularly listen to classical music, but i’m not used to it being symphony 5 *destiny* (never heard of it with destiny at the end) so i was confused
This piece seems to encapsulate an exponentially excellent musical skills being immersed in the ocean of immortal emotions. Their collective effort is quietly remarkable. May the Almighty God in His heavenly realm shall bless us all.
Maestro Chung and the Seoul Philharmonic performing Beethoven. Heaven on Earth! The intensity and passion delivered never fails to amaze me. This piece is not one normally associated with bringing folks to tears, but this collaboration does it.
A great sound. So many women are in this orchestra and they play with such energy - it is a joy to watch. The conductor is terrific. I like that he doesn’t conduct in the traditional patterns but seems to conduct to the sound of the music. So unusual. I have watched this you tube several times times and really enjoy it. I love this orchestra!
Just a bit of history...Korean society traditionally limited the role of women to the arts and home management. It didn't change until after the Japanese annexation, it's fall ( the Japanese Empire), and it's resurrection as the Republic of Korea. It's my understanding that N. Korea has lagged behind the south considerably in this regard. So, I'm not surprised at how many women are a part of the orchestra, nor how well they perform as a whole.
I am at least 750 of these views, the build up 6:15 and ending at 6:42 is incredible I just love watching the violinists carve through that portion in perfect unison. It is a beautiful piece and even though I thought of it as the BOMBOMBOMBOMMMM piece as a kid, now I only appreciate its sublime beauty from beginning to end. Well done Mr. Chung and all the musicians. Encore!
The musicians never waver in their intensity or their focus. Their eyes are on the score in front of them, or the Maestro leading them, nowhere else. and it shows both in the music and visually. Totally absorbed in what they are doing....How lucky are we to be able to witness it, even though not live????
This is the best orchestral version I've ever heard, thank you. Your synchronicity is incredible and incredibly moving. I found the whole performance so refreshing. Powerful and humble. Thank you so much for it.
"Ka Wa No Nagare no Youni". From another great E. Asian artist. The translation of the title of Misora Hibari's wonderful song fits this interpretation of the 5th perfectly.
Destiny seems a fitting tag for this symphony. From beginning to end it seems to recognize it's fate, never wavering from the pursuit of it's doom, until, finally, it's destiny is achieved at the finale.
This Seoul Philharmonic has indeed a fresh revelation of an interpretation, a big departure from the standard interpretations of Western orchestras. * Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic.....very heavy * Solti's Chicago SymphonyOrchestra......very dictatorial * Toscanini and the NBC orchestra...........very hurried All of them have an egocentric interpretation but this Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Myung-Whun has a totally new vision of this 5th symphony, one that does not dictate, nor is laden with heavy egos. It reminds me of Gould's fresh lyrical interpretation of Beethoven's 5th concerto. Maybe this was what it should have sounded when Beethoven wrote it.
I totally agree. This is more what Beethoven had in mind, I'm sure. The others tend to reinforce Beethoven as revolutionary, ending the Classical tradition, ushering in the Romantic. And I agree, he was revolutionary, but revolutionary in the same sense the American founders were, not as Robespierre and his faction were. Beethoven remained elegant, and restrained. He didn't discard all that was wonderful in the classical, instead enhancing the style with equally wonderful innovation. Just my simple thoughts, one man's opinion, likely not worth too much.
I have never heard a better presentation of this masterpiece symphony. It doesn't drag like some of the other orchestras. But what is with the cameraman's obsession with the white guy up front?
I get what you're saying, but you must admit, his performance was very impassioned. I don't think Maestro Chung let him sit in the first chair for nothing!

@@Paganini1 btw, later on, some time after this, the violinist directly behind him is concertmaster. IDK if she still is as of now.
