This episode is an example of why I watch this podcast. Hearing anything new about the production of the greatest trilogy ever made, gives me immense pleasure.
Mark’s unshakeable optimism and professionalism is so inspiring. I love his advice of being addicted to problem solving. I’m gonna remember that one for my own life. I’m not a producer but I think his perspective is inspiring for anyone. Can’t wait for the next one!
Such good stuff, all of it. Having the directors cut / extended edition with the making of each film has made them even more endearing to me. So glad Peter Jackson did that❣️
Thank you for such a fascinating interview! As an independent filmmaker, I agree with what Mark says re: Indy film today. Peter was very lucky to have met such a champion of his work 🙏🏻👏🏻
Mark is so fantastic guy. I believe this was the first time that we've actually heard what was in that pitch. And, him being here with you is a double treat. Thank you for that. Can't wait for part 2.
In my area of northeast Oregon, Bears will eat tons of apples before going into hibernation. Yes, the seeds do get "planted" all in one spot along with some "fertilizer". ;)
Excellent interview! Mark is a great person to interview and very interesting. A very indepth and intelligent conversation. I really enjoyed this episode. Thank you.
Such an amazing and insightful interview! Looking forward to the second part! This is what making movies is so interesting. I can hear them telling stories all day long
This podcast is a friggin delight and one of the best parts of my week (that might seem sad LOL but that just says a lot about the podcast, I love what I do). Grateful for you guys!
It wasnt on purpose, because we were little children and are from germany, so we had no understanding of english at all, but my father raised me and my little sister with music of his time (mainly around the 70s, i was born 94 and my sister in 96) and i remember that we always wanted to hear the "eikibo"/"i kee bow"-song, which referred to the "i keep blowing down the road" part of Call me the Breeze (the JJ Cale version) ❤ And we LOVED 'Raggle Taggle Gypsy' from The Waterboys where we literally didnt know what was going on, but we loved it ;D
Thanks, guys❣️ It was funny and then it was interesting! Love it as always 💛❣️ For the next week!!! (Btw, yesterday I got the cute TFO mug by mail, yay 😀!).
Greatest podcast ever, I love Tuesdays Here's some of the tongue twisters for you guys 1. How much ground would a groundhog hog, if a groundhog could hog ground? A groundhog would hog all the ground he could hog, if a groundhog could hog ground. 2.Betty Botter bought some butter but, said she, the butter’s bitter. If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter. But a bit of better butter will make my bitter batter better. So she bought some better butter, better than the bitter butter, put it in her bitter batter, made her bitter batter better.
We have a similar saying where I'm from: how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Interestingly, woodchuck is another name for groundhog.
As for wrong lyrics, I've got one that lots of Dutch speaking people get wrong. In "wanna be starting something" from Michael Jackson, there's a part going 'mama say mama sa mama coosa'. In Holland and Belgium, a lot of people go: mama say mama sa mama appelsap', and that last word is basically the dutch word for apple juice. Another one I like is "My hero" from Foo Fighters. The correct lyrics are 'There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes. There goes my hero. He's ordinary' but one could also sing 'There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes. There goes my hero. He's old and hairy.' Love the podcast, love Lord of the Rings, love you guys!
Good advice: find a solution before expressing the problem. Thank you for your RUclips programs, I enjoy watching them. Also, how's the gallon of water drinking going? I'm trying to drink more water, I get a lot of sparkling water. 🌱
Here I was, already taken my Ambien and settling in for sleep... And then Dom merely MENTIONS the German interviewer prank with Elijah and I am in absolute giggles. That was the BEST 😂🤣😭
My favorite song lyrics to purposely get wrong is Elton John's tiny dancer, I enjoy singing Hold me closer tiny danza, and I just picture a very small Tony danza
I had a friend back in the 80's that was from southern California, and he had the stereotypical surfer-dude accent. He used to use the word TACO interchangeably with any noun. One time we were hanging out checking out albums from bands we liked, and he wanted to look at one I was holding, so he said "Hand me that taco" and we had no Mexican food there.
Loved Mark Ordesky in the "making of" LOTR videos. He was hilarious. So quick-witted, with such a dry sense of humour and so damned funny. But really, really smart, too. So many times, the behind-the-scenes people - though they work in and on wildly creative projects - are themselves colourless as can be. But almost ALL the folks associated with LOTR are bigger-than-life characters, themselves - like Richard Taylor, Barry Osborne - and Mark Ordesky. Such a treat to watch them all do what they do so well. But Mark was definitely the one who made me laugh right out loud a lot of the times. "Peter IS a sneaky bastard" - said without any rancor, but just total wryness - when Peter manoeuvred him into declaring that "The Return of the King" premier would be held in Wellington. I chuckle every time I think of it . . .
One of my favourite films of all time is a tiny independent film by Eric Stolz called Bodies, Rest and Motion. It stars Stolz, Bridget Fonda and Tim Roth. It is utterly brilliant, deep and funny. Highly recommend!!
The lyrics I used to always sing wrong was from the song "Milkshake" the part that goes "Damn right it's better than yours I can teach you, but I have to charge" I would always sing "Damn right it's better than yours, I'd teach you but I have to do chores."
here's my favourite tongue-twister (in hungarian, alas): az ipafai papnak fapipája van, ezért az ipafai papi pipa papi fapipa (the priest of Ipafa has a wooden pipe, thusly the priestly pipe of Ipafa is a priestly wooden pipe)
In English, there's a plethora of words for Da Kine. I could ask you to pass me the thing over there by the stuff, or to hand he the thingamajig (also known as the thingamabob) sitting on the whatchamacallit, next to the doohickey. Looking for an adjective there is so-so, or just the general "eeh" or "meh". With English it seems to be more so there are so many words and synonyms that we don't "Have A word for it" but there are many different words or phrases that can hit their mark; and if not, someone will make one up (also see "Kajigger" "Whatsiwhosit" "Thingyjigger")
My siblings and I used to sing the Beach Boys song the chorus of "Help Me Rhonda" as "Help Me Hornet." I don't remember why we did, but I still can't sing it correctly to this day.
Apples arent the only fruit to contain cyanide. Apparently nectarines, pears, plums, peaches, black cherries, red cherries, apricots and greengages also contain it in their seeds and pips. The molecule in these fruits are called amygdalin which turns into hydrogen cyanide during decomposition or digestion. Apples contain around 3mg per gram of amygdalin whereas apricots contain 14.4mg per gram and greengages contain 17.5mg per gram. P.S my real name is Gaz
I always thought "stroke me stroke me" lyrics by Billy Squire was "strong a** drunk man" and I've thought this for so long that I can't change my mind about it. Lol
Following on from what Dom was saying about being uncouth - or couth, is it possible for someone to be “whelmed” as apposed to underwhelmed or overwhelmed. What would a whelmed person look like?
Dom and Billy should try to do the tongue twister : Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore but if she sells sea shells by the sea shore then where are the sea shells Sally sells.
Regarding apple seeds: Apples, as well as relatives such as apricots, bitter almonds, peaches, cherries, and plums, contain in their seeds/pits/stones the chemical amygdalin. If the seeds are crushed when eaten, they react with stomach acid to form hydrogen cyanide as a defense mechanism
It seems like it would be advantageous to the apple tree to have seeds swallowed whole with the fruit & excreted by a bird or animal, but that the cyanide would be useful to discourage animals that might break & eat the seeds in a way that renders them unviable, such as a mouse nibbling or a caterpillar chewing...?
I still don't know the lyrics to the chorus to Basket Case by Green Day. I've been listening to that song since middle school, and I still have no idea. I've looked them up. I can't hear those words in the song.
The cyanid in apple seeds reminds me of another poisonous food fact, if you wer to eat 40,000 bananas in 10 minutes you would die of radiation poisoning. (This is due to the small amount of potassium in bananas)
It doesn't hurt to eat the apple seeds as most of the time (unless you bite into it) your digestion doesn't break and damage the seed (speculating, it may be something to keep animals who eat them to not damage the seed while it eats it, although apples, as we know them are not natural, they were invented by the greeks** ). If the seeds are bitten into, the 200 apples statistic applies, but otherwise you're good. **Only crabapples are natural, and modern apples are made by grafting branches between crabapple and other fruit trees. You cannot *grow* an apple tree
The classic song for intentionally singing wrong lyrics really is "Sound of da Police" by KRS One. For ages I was also sure that those were the correct lyrics cause it sounds just like it. "Woop-woop! That's the sound of da police Woop-woop! That's the sound that I miss" (insead of "the sound of da beast")
Here's a good one that I'm not sure has been asked yet, I wonder what you two would be doing if you hadn't become actors? Would you have gone into production or something totally different?
Imagine if there was just slightly differently minded people at the pitch. We might not have gotten LOTR at all and millions upon millions of peoples lives would have gone differently. It's scary and inspiring at the same time how big of an impact some people can have simply by just being in the right position at some company. And thank god for Mark, just seems like without him it wouldn't have really happened probably.
Taylor Swift’s “wildest dreams” - the lyric is “standing in a nice dress” but I always sing “standing in an ice chest” because I think that’s what the lyric sounds like and I find it funny as hell XD
Alternate "pheasant plucker" tongue twister: "I am a mother pheasant plucker. I pluck mother pheasants. I am the pleasantest mother pheasant plucker to ever pluck a mother pheasant." (even difficult to type!)
I heard a similar "Pheasant Plucker" tongue twister as well. "I'm not the pheasant plucker I'm the pheasant plucker's mate. I'm only plucking pheasants cuz the pheasant plucker's late"
Of all of the words you choose to talk about today, da-kine was my code word after I learned some pigeon. It was my code word for smoking pot, I thought I was so original and then I quickly found out, I was just lame... Hahaha!
Evacuate the dancefloor by cascada But sung incorrectly by me and my sister: I'm vacuuming the dancefloor! Ohhohh The party all went home Ohhohh God this mess is killing me! Hey Mr. dJ could you pick up that beer on the ground?
I will never get tired of Billy and Dom... and never get tired of Billy and Dom talking to LOTR people about LOTR.
This episode is an example of why I watch this podcast. Hearing anything new about the production of the greatest trilogy ever made, gives me immense pleasure.
Had the pleasure of speaking with Mark a few times. He is one nice guy. Invited me to see his hero prop Anduril in person when I get to CA.
29:00 such a simple and yet effective point. Quite often I feel major movie studios actually spoil good plots with major stars.
Mark’s unshakeable optimism and professionalism is so inspiring. I love his advice of being addicted to problem solving. I’m gonna remember that one for my own life. I’m not a producer but I think his perspective is inspiring for anyone. Can’t wait for the next one!
Still, when I hear "Rings' cleansweep at the oscars" I get goosebumps.
Such good stuff, all of it. Having the directors cut / extended edition with the making of each film has made them even more endearing to me. So glad Peter Jackson did that❣️
I love Billy and Dom's chemistry & the positive energy is so refreshing. This has become my favorite podcast. Thank you.
It's borderline impossible to pick one, but this episode is possibly my favourite. Such a wonderful guest in Mark.
My daughter always sings, Bon Jovi, You give love a bandaid
Mark Ordesky! I had the pleasure of interviewing him for my website last year. Lovely guy! 🙂
Thank you for such a fascinating interview! As an independent filmmaker, I agree with what Mark says re: Indy film today. Peter was very lucky to have met such a champion of his work 🙏🏻👏🏻
Look forward to this every Tuesday. What a great episode with Mark O. Could listen to him talk forever.
Mark is so fantastic guy. I believe this was the first time that we've actually heard what was in that pitch. And, him being here with you is a double treat. Thank you for that. Can't wait for part 2.

My one complaint for this podcast, I wish it was longer!
*is that I wish it _had have_ been longer
This was a fantastic podcast! Listening to Marks story was absolutely incredible! Such a good amount of experience all very well explained!

Mark is awesome! Been waiting for this interview. Nice one.

Yay! New episode! Happy Tuesday guys!
My misheard lyric was "Without a shed it's a lonely view" instead of "with birds I share this lonely view" haha
My favorite song lyrics to purposely get wrong is Elton John's tiny dancer, I enjoy singing Hold me closer tiny danza, and I just picture a very small Tony danza
I desperately want to hear Dom talk about Lost for an entire podcast!
Thanks, Billy! Thanks, Dominic! Thanks, Mark! 🧅
Favorite guest so far! Really interesting!

Lol the sunlight at the end, poor Dom!
Never average guys, always amazing. #DomandBill2023
This tongue twister could produce a few taters...... "I slit the sheet, the sheet I slit, and on the slitted sheet I sit"
4:40 Yes please. And 56:35 This is SO important!!!
What a great guest. Thank you guys!
What a fantastic guest. Again! Gee I sure hope you guys get an award soon xx

This was a brilliant podcast with the one and only Mark! Can’t wait for part 2 ☺️
Love listening to you guys
One of my favourite films of all time is a tiny independent film by Eric Stolz called Bodies, Rest and Motion. It stars Stolz, Bridget Fonda and Tim Roth. It is utterly brilliant, deep and funny. Highly recommend!!
Gotta tongue twister for you Gents to try:
"You know you need unique New York,
You know unique New York needs you!"
You guys have the best banter and overall conversations! It makes me laugh just listening to you both. Love you ❤😊
Lovely to listen to Mark. Great video boys.
The lyrics I used to always sing wrong was from the song "Milkshake" the part that goes "Damn right it's better than yours
I can teach you, but I have to charge" I would always sing "Damn right it's better than yours, I'd teach you but I have to do chores."
Man, I have wanted to see that LotR pitch video. Someday.
I Saw Critters opening day in Ceuta (Spain) I was 6 years old. Till this day I think it's a great fun movie.
Billy's sneaker game is on point 👌
I'm so glad Dom mentioned the prank interview

Pizza in the oven, takis opened, the boys on the big screen. The perfect evening.
I would love to hear how funky Billy and Dom think the macarena is.
what a great interview
Loved this! So much new info, interesting details and insights.
johns attempts at the pheasant twister was too funny

"Three seconds and twenty-eight... less than seconds." 😅
My wife used to sing "take a piece of meat with you" as well!
Nice!!

2 parts, I'm excited! ❤

This is such a fun show. Can't wait for the Bobby Lee episode
Oh Wow! So interesting to get a view I normally never get. Thanks!
What happened to the horses at the Black Gate in the Return of the King?

pls i love them
There is a whole song that tongue twister about the pheasant pluckers and it's quite fun to listen to if your interested.
I swear I heard "I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant fu€ker, son! I'm only fu€kin pheasants til the pheasant plucker comes!" 😳😅
I would LOVE a biography of New Line Cinema
