    There is only one Mike Turner. An ear for melody and timing that few guitar players can match. Plus a modest enough ego to never overpower the music. I always prefer his understated approach.

      Like the lead for matchbox. He just plays enough to lift the song without taking over

      They let him go because supposedly Raine thought he was a terrible guitarist and ironically his departure destroyed the band.

      I met Mike once after a crash Karma show in RedDeer and he is a very genuine dude. He chatted for a bit with us about his studio and reluctantly signed my gfs boobs lol stating his gf might not be too happy about this. He is definitely a Riff/Rhythm maker and did the same thing Malcolm Young did for AC/DC. Without it, it’s just not the same.

Memories .... I actually played the whole song on my guitar w/ accoustic song on my line 6 pod go(I know all the chords hehe), great song still. Lot of great bands back then...

    I'm always so curious about what happened to Raine Maidas voice. From 1995-1997 he sounded really good live. Not perfect, but good. Then, around 1999, he somehow completely lost his sense of pitch. He's regained it a bit recently, but he became so off pitch live around 1999 it became unlistenable.

      Saw OLP in show in montreal few days ago (june 28) and his voice was amazing!

    • @cftvdata
      @cftvdata Год назад +1

      Could have to do with his hearing? It's not that uncommon for rock musicians to blow their ears out and not be able to hear the monitors properly anymore, and it can be pretty tricky to sing on pitch without being able to tell what's coming out of your mouth and adjusting to that feedback in real time.

    • @Stan_sprinkle
      @Stan_sprinkle 4 года назад +8

      Actually I just watched him sing it in 2019, where he’s actually singing with some technique. He probably figured out 15 years ago that he needed vocal lessons or else he was going to destroy his career. He actually sings pretty well now, technically, it just doesn’t sound as cool

      What are you guys talking about. Why wasn't this sustainable?

    • @pensreport
      @pensreport 4 года назад +12

      @@gorchcleave5393 Vocal strain. His falsetto and high fluttering notes dropping right into belting out as hard as he can isn't proper technique, nor a natural way of singing. You can see in the performance here physically, his rigid body language, he's struggling to get up and down throughout the song and get sustainable breathing patterns. Despite just singing, he looks like he's in a fight. Raine tends to do this with his songwriting. He writes incredibly complex vocal songs and will lay them down for a record through multiple takes for perfection, but that means performing the songs live is a very demanding task to reproduce perfectly. So it's a battle when he has to replicate that live. Nowadays he's adjusted his style to be less straining on his vocal cords, singing at a much lower register, and will use his high notes sparingly in concerts. Otherwise the amount of performing he does with such difficult material he would've damaged his cords years ago.
