    Safina's ball toss takes a scenic route of the Milky Way before coming back down. However, by that time the match is done!

      and that's why she always struggled, it led to too many inconsistencies

      it takes a million light years to come back and boom, it takes just a millisecond for the ball to return from Serena's laser racket hehe

      So true!! Hate to say it but sometimes Serena just broke the other player down by hitting hard with great depth over and over again. But she had an amazing foundation to improve upon to become the legend she now is...

    Six years later to the day she beats another Russian to win the Australian Open (this time, Maria Sharapova).

    Even though Dinara lost badly, I admire her attitude on court. She always fought till the last point, what a fighter. And also congratulations to Serena.

      Yes, she did play hard!Wish she was still around to play more however her health problems will not allow her to do so. In the end for myself, as you can see, I am a huge SW fan.:-). Thanks for commenting.

      MarioBeart tbh I think the ball toss pretty much determined her fate

      Vika was about to beat Serena badly in this AO but she burnt out after winning Brisbane and she was a teenager but she did way more damage than safina in the final

    The way they cheered for Safina, you would think she was Australian but she's Russian. wow......... the haters even back then .

    I wonder which was brutal. This or the 2007 demolition of Maria Sharapova.

    • @rayncar
      @rayncar 10 лет назад +4

      Good question. Obviously people were expecting more from Sharapova because she was already a GS winner and sh had beaten Serena before in the finals of a GS. I really liked Safina, pitty she had to retire at suchh young age

    • @tjrtt
      @tjrtt 10 лет назад +34

      The demolition of Sharapova for me. Serena was ranked 81 and was not in top shape. She was so intense and determined to use Sharapova to prove a point lol

    • @rayncar
      @rayncar 10 лет назад +6

      She still is lol

    • @themastermindisback4777
      @themastermindisback4777 10 лет назад +30

      rayncar Sharapova was coming off an exceptional 2006 season (which included winning the US Open) while Serena suffered a major injury and saw her ranking drop beyond 100. So to me - the 2007 demolition tops the list.
      It showed that Serena was back. But it wasn't the first time it happened. In 2011, Serena coming back from that terrible foot injury beat Sharapova in the quarters on the way to winning Stanford in 2011.

      Technically, she wasn't #1 at this time. This was a match for the #1. Safina didn't take the #1 ranking until April.

    2009 AO Qf: beat (rusian) kuznetsova, Sf: beat (rusian) Dementieva, Final: beat (rusian) Safina. 2015 AO Final: beat (rusian) sharapova. What an athlete.

    God her service motion is horrible. How she has her leg sticking out at the start looks so weird and as other's have mentioned the ball toss is so damn high. Painful to watch....
