Thank you for a " players grade" lesson.
No frills no Bs. No trying to figure out what you're teaching as you go.
Well done
This presentation is about the best you can get. Not only does he play the licks at different speeds, he puts it into a context and supplies the tabliture. I need the tabs the most so this was very useful. He's the king. Face it.
Perfect. No BS, just killer licks shown in real context. Simple is best. Thanks so much!
Killer! Tasty licks for someone who already knows how to play and wants to move past Dust My Broom
thanks for showing the lick and then showing how it can fit into a solo /song ! great lesson !
Anyone who watches your effort is in your debt.....you are off the charts in my book .....thank you .....y
This is the first time I've seen a set of licks that are then put in context. It's a huge help!
Amazing tips. Thanks a lot. Please, please do more of those in open D.
Your lessons are great RJ.Thank you so much for your time.
so clear and precise and great angle to see both hands well...thanks for licks
Thank you for your clarity. and generosity. Elegant lesson!!
GREAT lesson. I love that you play it slowly and clearly so many times before you move on. Thank you for this. Very very helpful.
Really cool useful licks RJ. These lesson videos are really great! Thanks for spending the time to put them together.
Good to hear someone who can really play slide. Others think they can but can't.
Wicked sounding pickup! Thanks for the lesson.

Kickass licks and that guitar is just gorgeous!
Nicely done with standard notation and TAB. Very professional. The licks are pretty slick as well! Great job!

Cool licks, well presented. Thanks, RJ.
That was great. I'm learning slide on open D tuning. I find it a lot of fun. I'm also learning slide on open G. That's a little more challenging.
Great lesson!! Thanks
That first lick is what plays in movies when city slickers are lost in the desert in Texas.
What a great little intro that is into slide... Just bought a Fender Resonator and I'm having a gasss :-)

Awesome man helped me out a tonne
Thanks for this great lesson! A lesson on the grooves you are playing after the licks would be great. Really hard to find cool grooves in vestapol tuning instead of the standard shuffles 😬
cool lesson I am working on my slide and this really helps to get some licks to work on thanks . I'm gassing for the republic hwy61 right now I have a gretsch bobtail which is pretty sweet.

Late the party, but this really helped me get started on making something regarding music with a slide. Subbed!

These are great! Got any more? In open D?
you're a total badass
Good video! I used to play in open E, but I think I like D better. Johnny Winter plays in D
Very useful lesson RJ. Thanks for posting it. I've got a request - more licks in Open D please! - and a question - are these 5 licks all played best over the I (D) chord? Subbed...thanks again!
goddam do I appreciate those links
Another great video RJ. I have a question about your Triolian, hopefully you will see this. I have a chance at a used one that looks exactly like yours. How would you compare it to one of the more "traditional " Nationals as opposed to this one with the maple neck? Any noticeable sound difference to your ears?
Please my friend, more Open Blues Licks :)
Your classes are so good my friend
What are your thoughts on the lace ultra slim?
Something to play with when your fret fingers are sore!
Do you do session work?
PM stands for Mute?
I need a resonator..those things are magical.
Yes they are!
Where can I purchase the slide your using. Is that a corasidan bottle?
what kind of pickup do you have on that Dobro ?
Looking for one for a similar model. Thanks
It's the Lace Ultra Slim pickup - amzn.to/2BnVQKo
got an ad for Herbie Hancock master class, ima go do that first ;]
Hi friend, I want to ask you a question, if you can help me.
I have a Highway 61 from Republic Guitar, and I do not know what strings to put on it. Which model, brand or measurement ... 0.14, 0.16 ??? Can you tell me which is the correct string?
The one I am using is Elixir Strings 80/20 Bronze Resonator Acoustic Guitar Strings w POLYWEB Coating (.016-.056)
It depends on what tuning you are usually in, but I wouldn't go too heavy on the Highway 61. 14 or 15 would probably work best. I like basic John Pearse bronze strings.
I usually use Open D
what is the brief tune from 1:30 to 1:32? I hear it absolutely everywhere
Just your standard 12 bar blues rhythm. It's not a specific song, it's just the way the vast majority of blues guitarists play basic rhythm
Is it really necessary if you don't have a high-action guitar to raise the action on it
Not really.
where is the bass reef? where is the point of playing without bass?
One time, just once, I want someone to say, "We're not going to tune up in the video. Go look up [the tuning], and then use a tuner to tune your guitar to [the tuning]. If you don't have a tuner, don't know how to Google [the tuning], or don't know how to tune a guitar, then this video is not for you. Click the links below for other videos that teach you that stuff." The only time tune up time isn't a total waste of time is when the video maker's guitar is tuned to something like A=432 Hz instead of 440. 😠
Love this!
