I appreciate that this might be a somewhat unconventional viewpoint, but I genuinely believe that the perfect ending of Final Fantasy X-2, and the subsequent stories of Price of Eternity and Will have cheapened Tidus' sacrifice at the end of Final Fantasy X. It's why I felt compelled to make this video! I'm interested to hear if you guys agree! Also, I know how I pronounce Tidus, it's an itch I can't scratch just yet :'( ~Lauren
You do know that FFX had a secret ending that hinted that Tidus would return. Just Saying. ruclips.net/video/1HCPd9yBnbY/видео.html 21:50 skip to this marker Also wasn't 2.5 considered as a fanfiction that was accidentally released Kazushige Nojima, scenario writer for Final Fantasy X and X-2, explained to fans on the Square Enix website how he mistakenly sent off fanfiction to be published instead of the actual novel."
Tidus' return was implied in X (not just the ending easter egg, but thru NPCs too) 1 of the NPC even said something along the lings of "once you (or was it an aeon?) touch the truth of spira, it is no longer a dream" or something along those lines (i played the JP version), same reason why yuna urges people to remember those that left during her end game speech, and it fits in with the whole FFX undertone "if 1's thought/yearning is strong enough, its possible to manifest into reality (and the floating glow worms is obviously a visual representation of that). i like to pretend X-2 + that god awful novel doesnt exist the same way i pretend XIII-2 and lightning returns doesnt exist, square-enix doesnt do direct sequal'esque stuff very well, we'll see if that remains unchanged with the upcoming FFXV DLC's even though that probably doesnt count because its content thats supposed to be in the original game
Although I'd like to believe that is the case, it wasn't as Final Fantasy X Will follows the Novel's lore quite well. I doubt they'd have released both properties by mistake.
Indeed its has to be non canon fiction at best. But influenced a and was retconned as inspiration to write Will the Last Mission takes place months after the ending of X-2 and Yuna mentions that they are still together. 2.5 causes a continuity error in both the games and even will which w actually included in the game. 2.5 even gets the characters personality wrong and they supposedly break up in the Will version not the 2.5 creating another continuity error. Lulu even notices that Tidus has missed the point of the supposed breakup and she notices that Yuna doesn't really like another person and Lulu knows the reason why. As for the wish of bringing something back it was meant when Tidus was brought back by the Aeons in X-2. The same can happen to Sin especially for others that wanted it, hint dedicated yevonite fanatics, the unsent that clung to Sin for influence, even Seymour despite being sent could have willed sin back. If anything Will was made to correct the novel and is the only continuity to Last Mission. It wouldn't be the first time that SE has published a novel and it was declared non canon case and point the various FFI, FF3 books and manga which are non canon to the actual games, The "Legend of the crystals anime" for FFV. Also getting killed by a Bomb when all of the FF heroes get blasted in every game The only thing that appears canon is FFX Will and nothing else. Even 2.5 Price of eternity never made it outside of Japan if it were a plot point so there is no way it should be considered canon.
I feel like I honestly have to disagree with this video. Yuna and Tidus both earned the right to be togther after all of their struggles in X and X-2. That's why Bahamut offered to allow Tidus to be alive: as a reward for Yuna saving the world, and allowing them to actually have their relationship flourish. It's mentioned in Last Mission that they do get to spend all of their time together, living a simple, happy life. The way Price of Eternity is presented is like bad fanfiction: The lore and characters are interesting, but they ignore Yuna's development in X-2, much like you accused the happy ending of X-2 doing to Yuna. She came off as standoffish and cold, completely opposite of how she actually is. I know that she would definitely be more open with Tidus, and he would still support her no matter what, even dealing with the elders. Yeah, they've both sacrificed a lot for their world, but they deserve their time together and to be happy. Price of Eternity and Will completely ruins Yuna's character for me, as it made her take 20 steps back from her more confident and strong self in X-2, and it breaks my heart. I've looked up to Yuna for the longest time, and greatly admire her for her strength, kindness, and her open, loving heart. To see her be turned into a distant, regressed, and completely different person in the novel/audio drama just for drama doesn't sit right with me. Tidus and Yuna deserve their happy ending, no strings attached.
twilightfire93 I respect your opinions, but I don't think it's completely out of left field for Yuna to feel the way she does. Her 1st priority has always been her work. She was happy to go off and do her adventures with the gullwings But once she's home, it's work time. Although she "wants" a family life with Tidus, she knows that can't realistically happen in the audio drama/novel because Tidus also has aspirations to be a Blitzball star once more which means he can't stay in besaid. They are literally from different worlds both physically and emotionally. It's like the relationship in la la land. They love each other sure. But love is only part of the battle. Their wants in life have to mesh or one of them has to compromise. If anything it's a great realistic approach to real life relationships.
Final Fantasy Union I sense a little bit of misguided priorities by you. I dont think their is anything absolutely REALISTIC about leaving your loved one for the sake of living your own life to pursue your own career. At least it isn't the only realistic choice in life. And I consider it a selfish one at that. This is what I'm getting from you. You seem to think that because these two have different interests, they will be incompatable and sacrifice the happiness they have with each other for pursuing their jobs or careers. It is this culture that I don't like, that divorce is somehow the more realistic end to a relationship and everything because people have different traits or goals. Here's a realistic action: self sacrifice. People change, they want different things, especially when they find love and get married. Yuna, being a mother, would obviously give up her job to take care of her family, while Tidus provided in any which way he can, whether through Blitzball or otherwise. I think that's the happy end many would love to see with these two. That's just as much a realistic approach as any breakup. And I would very much prefer it over your version. I see no reason why we can't have an example of a relationship working out and love finding a way to persevere through any complications that would arise from within it. That is just as realistic as a relationship not working out, and I would say it is more inspirational than what you're thinking. Not every relationship has to end in breakup to be realistic.
Yuna is the most selfless character of the series, choosing to not have a future so her world will have one, and the only selfish indulgence she allowed herself was to fall in love with Tidus. And she gets rewarded for always putting the spirits and the prejudiced populace first by getting back the only other person as selfless as her at the end of X2. And they are so compatible: she’s all serious and responsible with an underlying playfulness she never let out until she met him, and he’s cheerful and boisterous with underlying sense of self-sacrifice that came out when he met her. He let her shine as a celebrity, never stealing her spotlight since that was her arena, just being her support. He had his own interest in his sport where he was the expert, and she was ready to cheer for him in his arena. They are an awesome power couple and I’m okay waiting for them to make X3 if it means I can live in the HEA a little longer.
I have to respectfully disagree with this video. I feel that, regardless of how much Yuna ever moved on, she'd always desire the man she loved back in her life and to come back to be with her. It's something I can attest to in regards to the dead loved ones in my life. Furthermore, Yuna went through so much in her journey to stop Vegnagun that it's almost a relief and a break that she was given this one thing for her efforts. She sacrificed and endured so much her entire life to get to that point that I can't look at the end result of his return as anything but a true thank you from the creators and the world of Spira itself. I also look at his return to, ultimately, be a full circle development of the story. Tidus gave everything he had to save Spira. He was the first person to straight up refuse to see Yuna die as a result of her journey and gave his life to save her and everyone. The idea of Bahamut and Spira as a whole bringing him back at the whims of one person feels thematically accurate imo. One person saved a world, that world saved that one person. In regards to how "hypocritical" Yuna is for being okay with her own death but not his own, I have to say... yeah? Of course she's not going to accept this fully. The entire reason someone would say they're willing to lose their lives for others is specifically so THEY(who they wish to save) won't have to do that. It's why Tidus continued on in X. He refused to make Yuna be a sacrificial lamb and chose to ultimately sacrifice himself instead. Lastly, I want to say that the only content actively showing the pair as "lacking in compatibility" is really recent and, frankly, badly written material specifically made to draw angst out of a series. I hope that X-3 isn't made and that the extended material past X-2 is made non-canon as, imo, the revival of Tidus into a world where he's alive with a stronger, more determined Yuna in a truly safe Spira is a perfect ending.
Completely agree. I find it funny the comment about Yuna being a hypocrite. Of coarse she is, that's the point and there's nothing wrong with it. That's why they refused the final Aeon, because she didn't want to sacrifice anyone else. Tidus is also a hypocrite, but once again that's what made him great. The light novels Is it wrong to pick up girls n a dungeon actually explains it well where the main character is told he's a hypocrite for trying to save everyone and he just learns to accept it and openly calls himself a hypocrite. As for Wills it can burn in hell. Tidus died for Yuna he's not gunna cheat on her or anything and Yuna searched the world for any glimpse of him.
Thank you people, I know I’m 7 years late to respond to this but yes. Please just let it end on a good note, I know some fans believe that tidus’s sacrifice is what makes the first game so beautiful and to be fair, it’s true. But Yuna, after all she’s been through, deserves to reunite with the only real man she loves is a 1000 times more beautiful!
Your argument would be a good point....except that in the original FF10, you could unlock a secret ending in which Tidus awakens in the ocean of spira and swims to the surface and sees an island and swims to it. Meaning that he was brought back well before a FF10-2 was in production. Tidus was a dream of the fayth, true. But Yuna, not saving the world just once, but twice (in a world where the fayth and quickly diminishing power). They used what was left of their power to bring back Tidus as a reward for Yuna. The fayth wanted release from the endless dreaming, and with Yuna ending the cycle of sadness and death as well as their own suffering, they gave her what she wanted most, Tidus. You scratch my back, I scratch yours. It would be really, REALLY fucked up for the fayth to dangle Tidus in front of Yuna to save the world through the entire game and then not give him to her. You got to remember, Tidus was the personal 'soldier' of Bahamut, the strongest of the aeons. With Tidus's purpose served (ending the destruction of the world) just to be thrown away would seem INCREDIBLY callous of Bahamut, especially after all the sacrifices that he made. Tidus is just as much the tragic hero (if not more) than Yuna. He was created from nothing, with his ENTIRE purpose being to die (either as a final aeon, or as a sacrificial lamb) and he still sacrificed his own life to save the world. A world completely foreign and alien to him, and he was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice so that Yuna could live. Lets not forget, in FF10-2, Yuna wasn't exactly an emotional character. Outside of a couple instances, she was an emotionless automaton. Yuna was so deadpan in FF10-2 that Lightning from FF13 looks like a social butterfly. She never moved on from Tidus. And there wasn't anyone else around her that should could fall in love with. How do you go as someone who saved the world at the cost of losing the person you most loved, and somehow expect to move on? Who else is ever going to measure up to Tidus? Its not exactly like Spira is overflowing with great people (as both X and X-2 showed us, almost everyone in spira was either incredibly greedy or flawed). Its not like she is going to hookup with some random joe-shmo and watch some holovids on a friday night. Yuna is a heavily damaged person, dealing with PTSD from the traumatic events of saving the world twice. Almost every other person who helped her save the world either left her to live their own lives or are dead. Like we need another angsty FF protagonist with compassion issues and has closed themselves off to the world (Cloud already has that on lockdown).
What sacrifice are we talking about? Because to disappear wasn't even his choice, he was meant to disappear, whether he wanted or not. So how does that make it "his sacrifice"? Tidus was a dream of the Fayths, he came from a never existing place - a dream version of a 1000 years ago Zanarkand - literally a summoned memory of that once great city. As he came into contact with Sin (I guess through the Summit, where all the dreaming Fayths were, or through other meanings), he was transported to Spira, but it was more a physical manifestation of him, than anything like a change into a real living being. He was still a dream of the Fayths and probably also physically connected to Sin, since it was his father Jecht in there, who brought him to Spira (made that manifestation of Tidus in Spira). So by destroying Sin, they also ended up the dreaming of the Fayths (I'm sure it had nothing to do with the death of the Aeons themselves, that was only meant for Yu Yevon to not having anything to possess anymore, the Fayths aren't the Aeons themselves, the Aeons can be summoned through the Fayths, the summoner joins with the Fayth in it's chamber in each temple and receives the power to call forth this powerful being, that's an Aeon, but not the Fayth itself). By killing Sin, they ended all the dreaming on the Summit, as shown through those bubbles, one of that bubble had Tidus inside, this was him, the dream, that the touch of Sin "brought to Spira". When that bubble popped, Tidus on the ship began to physically fade out. Whether he wanted it, or not, he only accepted it, because what else could he do about it? So again, I wouldn't call that a sacrifice at all. He couldn't affect it at all.
Well yes, with the Fayths and Aeons it's actually complicated, since the Fayth of Bahamut asked Yuna to call them forth, they surely are very closely connected and by killing the Aeons, Yuna definitely lost the power to call them again, but that still doesn't make them equal, that doesn't mean that the Fayths are the Aeons themselves.
@@Croftice1 I think the sacrifice (if you look at his origins story) was to actually continue the pilgrimage instead of going off and doing his own thing preventing the fayth from waking up. That would probably set him up for a different death or someone new being created in his place to carry out the same task. It only made sense for him tho bc of his father being Sin
@@IamSnowMan42000 that wasn't his choice as well. He was dragged into all this. First he was dragged into Spira during the attack of Sin, he just wanted to go back home. Then at one point he finally realized, there is no way back. He accepted his fate. There's still no sacrifice in there.
lol. Someone that means the whole world to you dies and you have the chance to bring them back why would you just say "nah, they're alive in my heart dont worry about it, ive moved on"
Exactly. Why didn't FFUnion have a problem with the incredible detachment that was FFX2 from the original story!? Okay, 2 years pass and Yuna is a S-Class Gunner. Ok...
I partly agree. However continuing 10 to see how things have changed would have actually been good if they went for a different plot excluding Tidus completely. But they made it forcefully and unnecessary cheesy ...
@@Coreisus I enjoy X-2 , and it is a fun game, but I feel that it would work better if it was about different characters with a greater time skip. As it is, it's just great gameplay (man I love the dress-sphere system) with a story that isn't the most well written.
What? Do you mean the "straight to DVD release" Sailor Moon-Final Fantasy crossover wasn't an absolute masterpiece? LOL. Who could have predicted THAT?! LOL.
The Novel was a mistake. You can literally google it. In the official interview, Kazuhige Nojima stated himself that he accidentally published a fan-made article while looking for inspiration instead of his original one, but seeing how far things have gotten, he refused to release his original work saying that it wouldn't have made any sense anyway. Here are his words; “I needed inspiration for the Final Fantasy X-2.5 novel so I turned to some fanfiction I had read a few months ago,” wrote Nojima, “It turns out that I accidentally sent a fanfiction I was reading to the publishing team instead of the novel because I must have confused the two at some point. Honestly, it is very hard to distinguish between fanfiction and my official Final Fantasy novels because I think these fanfiction writers are very talented much like myself.”
Nojima os a bad writter, but the novel was bad even for his standards, this explains. And the published novel, fanfiction or not, is not canon. Only the games are.
For me it doesn't feel like it cheapen the story and feeling for me every time I replay X I still get sad at the ending knowing that Tidus will come back. Just because Tidus came back doesn't make it any less sad or make it seems like Tidus sacrifice any less.
A sacrifice? Is it called that, even if one has no choice? Knowing, that he is not real, just a physical manifestation of a dream, he finally accepted what he is and that he has to disappear. I wouldn't call that a sacrifice at all.
@@Croftice1 think ppl forget it..he convince to kill sin another way..even if that means he would disappeared..he could have let the circle continued and lived on
In mobius final fantasy we had an event where tidus was transported to palamecia and i played that a lot and when tidus echo (the cute yet annoying little fairy) and my character met what we thought was yuna echo and my character found out it really wasn't yuna and she told tidus she wanted to go back to spira in Hope's he would go back with her and tidus basically stuck by her side trying to get yuna back to spira so from this it shows that tidus truly did love yuna but yuna does love him back because of how much the fake yuna stayed by his side in moebius final fantasy and my theory to the reason she ignored him was so she wouldn't get to attached to him again so she doesn't have the fear of losing him again
2:05 "From Tidus's time.." No, 'Dream Zanarkand' is the whole reason Sin was made, it being far out into the sea and it exists in the present day world until the ending of FFX. Tidus lived in Dream Zanarkand, while Shuyin existed a thousand years ago in the original Zanarkand.
Steven Del Toro I just feel the same way,If he is a dream or not i don't care Tidus is one of my favorite characters from FF and i got him in Brave Exvius :)
It's fair enough. He's a great character. I just don't like what him coming back has done to the meaning of his ending in Final Fantasy X and I'm not overly happy with what they've done with his character since he's been back. :(
Steven Del Toro Oh i thought you meant square enix in general. Also it's not really upcoming since they haven't even started working on it yet. All they have is some concept art.
It is not cheapen her development. The main point of her development I think is the ability to choose and live the life she wants. That's why I think the option at the end is so powerful to me because even at the end, she doesn't just end up with him because we get the good ending but she can choose to see him or not see him (although I don't see why not)
I spent whole X to keep Yuna alive, then I spent whole X-2 trying to bring Tidus back. With all due respect, there is no argument that can convince me either of them dying is a right choice in potential X-3. Now, had X-2 not existed I might have agreed - I'd be sad but I'd understand. But the game and happy ending do exist, so killing Tidus all over again is a just unimaginable and very cheap imo. Which is why for me the novel and audio drama don't exist. FFX is my favorite FF so I feel a bit more strongly about it than other games. BTW thank you for pronouncing his name the 'old way', made it a lot easier, can never get used to Tee-dus OTL
In what I remembered, Tidus never died in any of the games. He only disappeared at the end of X because the fayth no longer dreams, This means that dreamworld zanarkand no longer exist. Tidus, on the other hand, is more than just a dream. He is touched by Sin, the one that connects the dream world and reality. The people of zanarkand became fayths so that zanarkand will 'lived on' even if its just a dream. It is not a record of the past, Tidus and Jecht is part of the present time in dreamworld, thats also the reason why the timeline in jechts disappearance(10 years) in dreamworld is insync with his appearance in real world. Also, didnt you notice that tidus zanarkand have no summoner and tidus himself doesnt know what a summoner is even though zanarkand is know as the land of summoners since ancient times, this is one of the proof that the dreamworld zanarkand is no longer just a part of spiras history. In short, when the fayth stops dreaming, a part of tidus also dissappears. That missing part of him makes him unable to completely exist in the real world and probably can only be seen in the farplane due to the pyreflies sensitivity. If I remember correctly, at the end of X2, the fayth said that they will dream a little longer which means that someone will summon the dream of the fayth, the dreamworld zanarkand, and the only summoner capable in doing that in X2 is Yuna. I dont know about those official novel but I cant imagine the worlds strongest guardian, the one that killed sin without the final aeon, can be killed by a simple bomb. That scenario, for me, is ridiculous.
i feel like you dont understand the difference between videogame stories and actual literature/movies if a player puts in 100+ hours you dont give em a fucking tragic ending you reward dedication
Tidus is the main focus of the FFX franchise. He's the reason X-2 even happened because if Shuyin didn't look like Tidus, then Yuna wouldn't care enough to go on another adventure... And Tidus is a likeable character. You can't just kill him off and not bring him back!... {cough} sorry Auron 😕
Auron wasnt a dream, Auron was freaking DEAD. Also, by the end of X, he came to terms with him being sent, he wasnt part of the world, he wasnt suppoused to be there.
Fate? Fate is up to the creators, not us as the fans. Like it or not, the perfect ending is he comes back. If the creators went so far as to call it that, then they wanted Tidus to come back.
the route you could go is that due to yuna bringing tidus back he essentially became the final aeon which also in turn restarts the whole cycle of sin, which the new sin could be the tidus that yuna knew back in X, and the tidus from X-2 could be the a copy made due to the fayth not actually able to get the X tidus so they made a copy of him. when the fayth 1st contact yuna that could be the moment where X tidus was turned into sin. we could eventually see an evil tidus (the copy gets absorbed by sin allowing him to manifest in his original form) which in turn would give yuna an even tougher time as it is someone she is emotional about.
The only reason they would make a 10-3 is to have yuna and tidus live happily ever after tbh. sp despite ur 10 mins of drivvle i reckon you wont get your wish
FFX-3 as an Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon type game where you just get to chill out and have fun in Spira helping people rebuild. Please. They've earned a good day.
If X-3 does happen, then Tidus should live, otherwise the "bad ending" from X-2 where Tidus appears to Yuna and she accepts his passing should be canon. The novel and audio drama should wiped from existence. X-3 killing of Tidus would be hot garbage and spitting in the face of the fans. So fuck that. Either bring him back proper or make the "sad" ending canon.
Final Fantasy X is one of favorites & I cried so hard at the end when Tidus died. But honestly at the end credits when they show him waking up I felt confused because to me it looked as if he was coming back. Of course that was the case in X-2 & I was ok with it. Where I think Square messed up is making the novel. Just leave it alone & make a prequel where we get to see Auron, Jecht, & Braska's journey. That would be so much cooler.
Honestly I don't think Auron - Jecht and Braska on their own is a super interesting story. I don't think the game would do super well. It'd need more characters you could play to bring diversity and story to the game.
I have a feeling that Aerith in the Final Fantasy 7 remake will survive. They're catering to those who wished she lived and it will alter the emotional depth of the game.
She might not die the same way she did in the OG. I still think she has to die because she is the one who saves the planet from meteor. There is a lot of evidence that Aerith knows the future and sephiroth is from the future. sephiroth knowing that killing Aerith will ruin his plans will stop him from doing that, but Aerith knowing what she has to do to save the planet will probably make her sacrifice herself or tell cloud to kill her.
FFX and FFX-2 were all about the relationship/story between Yuna and Tidus, akin to Romeo and Juliette. While both R&J and FFX have overarching plots that are addressed, the bulk of major plot points involve each couples respective relationships. Yuna wouldn't have saved the world if it weren't for Tidus and Tidus wouldn't have been reborn if not for Yuna. FFX-2's perfect ending is a culmination of the efforts Tidus gave for Yuna I FFX. Not in the sacrifice of life, but the journey completely dedicated to each other. During the course of FFX, we see Tidus gradually learn more about Yuna, her pilgrimage and her flaws. He takes all this information in stride and for a guy that talks a lot, he sure does make the effort to understand her and her situation. FFX-2 Is Yuna's return of the same effort Tidus gave to her. The Eternal Calm cutscene starts with her practicing breathing underwater. She does this in an effort to understand Tidus, something she rarely did in the original. She haphazardly takes off on an adventure, just like her beloved. She embraces the future and everything from her outfit to her weapon choice (gunslinger) is a homage to Tidus and Zanarkand (notice the long short/pants combo). Just like the Montagues and the Capulets, there is indeed a world going on outside of their little love bubble, but neither loses focus on committing to each other. Neither would have succeeded if it had not been for the other. THAT'S their chemistry. As far as compatibility is concerned, they both are blank slates. Other than Blitzball, Tidus doesn't have any other things he's rooted in, and after the dismantling of Yevon's teachings, Yuna is a shell of a person. In FFX-2, Yuna has modeled herself in Tidus' confident, never-say-die persona. FFX-3 Should be focused around the two of them growing together, both as individuals and as a pair. They're basically the Jay-Z and Beyonce of Spira. This could see Tidus having to learn about diplomacy and the old ways and Yuna becoming more steadfast in her ideals and becoming someone who doesn't just go with the flow. They complete each other, where one is lacking m, the other shines. Ultimately this feels like the purpose of the FFX narrative: To show a love story where the characters also use each other to grow and becoming who they were truly meant to be, together.
Mr Grunt if ffx-2 was beating a dead horse, ffx-3 is seeking out the family of the dead horse and then beating them to death too. Beating them to a bloody pulp.
Totally agree, Mr. Grunt. People can choose the characters destiny at the end of X-2. Problem solved. Making another chapter is beyond ridiculous. Especially this late in game.
TBH, back then I was glad FFX-2 existed because I wanted more of the FFX story. I will admit the way how Yuna's character was from 10 to 10-2 were massing different because of Tidus. I was happy that Tidus and Yuna got back together in the perfect ending, but the novel and FFX Will in my opinion started to ruin their story. I want Final Fantasy X-3 to exist so we can have a true conclusion and if Tidus dies, I don’t think it would make for a perfect ending. If he did died, it basically means that the entire story of FFX-2 was pointless and I get that yeah Sin is back, but Yuna’s personal journey would mean nothing if Tidus fades away. Yuna and Tidus had the right to be together due to the sacrifices they made and maybe there’s a better way to finish off the story without Tidus, honestly while I respect your opinion, Yuna has fully grown in X-2 and Tidus dying again would be emotional but a repeat of FFX and FFX-3’s ending should be different.
But they never changed the ending of X, X-2 just explains *how* he came back, but X already showed him coming back. X-2 is barely how we got from X's ending to its post-credits scene. And the novel is a complete disaster that is not even canon, and X-3 got scrapped, Kitase hasnt talked about it for over a decade.
Tidus needs to die? Dudette, relax, it is a story. Tidus is a character that many people fondly remember from FFX and would like to play as again in a whole new Final Fantasy game alongside Yuna and the rest of the gang. FFX3 should just add some cool new hidden aeons, new areas to explore, bring some more classic Final Fantasy enemies and an all new story and that should be all you need. Yuna is still cool with or without Tidus, but I don't see why he has to die for the story to work.
Personally, I think Tidus and Yuna deserves to be together. They both put their lives on the line for the sake of the everyone in Spira. Plus, I feel if Yuna didn't get to be reunited with Tidus by the end of X-2, it would've seem unfair to her since she left home and primarily became a sphere hunter to find him. Spira has already had enough people sacrificing their lives too and Tidus was the one to teach Yuna that sacrificing herself like a pawn wasn't the answer.
This entire video sounds like feminist garbage. You're basically saying yuna is a strong independent woman that dont need no man so she can focus on her work. This is the exact vibe I got from this video.
Am a sucker for happy endings, so I love that they were reunited. But at the same time I agree partly with your statement. For Yuna's character development, and for the sad ending of 10-2, the story just felt alot more powerful that he remained gone. The fact that she was able to finally acknowledge it, embrace it, and to say he'll always be in her heart, knowing that they'll meet again on the far plane for real... idk, it just felt bittersweet but in a good way you know? She had become a strong independent woman, had made a life for herself. You could even say that through his disappearance, she'd learned the value of his sacrifice and through him had learned to cherish every moment of life. Knowing he would be by her side one way or another, it made me feel how realistic it was to reality. I mean, that's what alot of people in real life go through, and the acknowledgement that they'll be reunited in death, kinda is happy in it's own way. It makes me think of Thanes romance in Mass Effect 3. Shepard acknowledging that one day, they'll meet on the shore. It's not the ending you wanted, but knowing they'll see each other again is in itself somewhat happy
I played FFX-2 once got the bad ending and was content with it. If they do make a X-3 I hope Tidus sacrifices himself again because he realizes he’s a paradox that caused Sin 2 the RE Sinning.
I personally thought the “good” ending to FFX-2 was perfect. Yuna realized that Tidus will always be a part of her but that he’s gone and she can move on. She has Rikku and Paine so she’s not alone.
Woman in green skirt: My Lady Summoner! Little girl: You’re a summoner? Yuna: Yes. My name is Yuna. Little girl: I’m Calli. Yuna: Nice to meet you, Calli. Calli: Lady Yuna, are you going to bring us the Calm? Yuna: Yes, very soon. Calli: Yay! (Runs circles around Yuna) Mother: We’re looking forward to another Calm, My Lady Summoner. Yuna: I’ll do my best. Mother: And good luck to your guardians as well. [Guys preen, Lulu doesn’t stir. Calli and Mom wave goodbye and leave.] Tidus: What’s the calm? Lulu: The Calm is a time of peace. It comes after a summoner defeats Sin, and lasts until Sin reappears. Tidus: Eh… huh? Yuna: Sin dies and is reborn. Tidus: I get it! I thought it was weird. Yuna’s dad defeated Sin ten years ago, right? But Sin’s still here! Didn’t make much sense till now. Tidus: Wait… If it just comes back… Yuna: Don’t say it isn’t worth it…Because it is. Narration: Even for a little while…people can sleep in their beds without being afraid. That kind of time is worth anything. Don’t say it isn’t worth it. Your words that day, Yuna- I remember them well. This scene should show that the return of Tidus does not cheapen his return or his sacrifice. Yuna's growth in X-2 does not diminish if Tidus return or cheapen. If a soldier that was MIA and is listed as dead one day return, should that soldier's parent/love one just tell em that they should have just remain dead because the duty that the MIA soldier has done and the feeling that the soldier's parent/love one means nothing now that they are back and a live, NO. Would the soldier's parent/love one want to send the soldier back out knowing that they would lose the soldier who they have just gotten back? NO. Yuna would not want to lose Tidus again even if it mean sacrificing herself. She has always been self-sacrificing, to sacrifice herself for the betterment of other if need be. That is her core personality. Yuna have always been strong and she has grown even more in X-2 no matter if Tidus return or not. Why is it not worth it... Why is it cheapen... The journey that we had and the feeling that we felt as we as we travers Spira. Those experience and emotions are worth it. Don't say that it isn't worth it, don't just toss them out. Because it is.
This is a unique view and I agree that the sad ending is very appropriate character growth for Yuna, but I think what makes us so happy that Tidus comes back is that he gets to be real and enjoy reality with his love. That’s still good story writing in my opinion. Still, I appreciate your view.
Also, my personal theory here, Shuyin is who Tidus is based on in the dream. Dreams being Dreams, they are never acuate and deviate from the original. Dream Zanarkand was made from a collective set of memories, so it would never be a complete accurate replication and would differ in some points, as well as underwent some changes due to the meddling from Sin/Yu Yevon from time to time. (The Dream Zanarkand itself being in a constant loop, starting from the most distant memories of the collective summoning Faith, leading to the final memories of those who were last to be killed by Sin when it first appeared, constantly re-dreaming Zanarkand in a timeperiod roughly 100 years before Sin's first appears up to the moment it appears and destroys Zanarkand ) Result: Shuyin (actually a 1000 years ago) had the ambition to become a Blitzballer just like his dad Jecht, but was never able to rise form his shadow, frustrated he decided to join the army of Zanarkand instead, thinking his skills in battle would be useful in the war with Bevel, events leading to him meeting Lenne on the field of battle as allies. Still incorpirating some Blitzball in his fighting style (Terror of Zanarkand/Blitz Ace) as he could never really let go of his dream he had to give up on. Shuyin having lived a very frustrating and unfulfilled life. Tidus being the dream version recreated from the survivors of Zanarkand. Their collective memory not being accurate enough to properly remember his real name creating "Tidus" instead of Shuyin. His path in life being altered when the previous Sin before Jecht (for currently unknown reasons) decided to take Jecht away from Dream Zanarkand, Ten years prior to the point where Dream Zanarkand would get attacked by Dream Sin. Forcing Tidus his life to take a drastic turn compared to that of Shuyin. No longer having Jecht around made him one of the best Blitzballers in Zanarkand. Instead leading him to a life as a star in sports rather then war. His own life being rather spoiled and easygoing compared to that of Shuyin. Tough Tidus is completely different, he is a reflection from the original Shuyin.
Personally I feel it just needs to end entirely. X was inspired, fresh and interesting. X-2 then took all those unanswered questions, riddles, foundations of lore, and dropped a steaming pile on top of it while writing a totally contradicting story that made no sense while taking the lead as charlies angels meets spice girls. (tough I'm not against a all female cast, could have used a lot less rainbows and reality somehow staying at bay to give way for the ridiculous plot points) I mean the combat system is literally a dress-up party. After just hearing about small parts about X-3's novel, I say let it die, burn all versions of the novel and never speak about any of that again, lets just all pretend X is the only game and has no sequel. Whoever the writer is must have ether gone insane or only had one good idea. I mean just look back at X itself. If you carefully analyze how the world of X works, it would make sense that Dream Zanarkand is actually inside Sin (the armor made to protect Yu Yevon and Dream Zanarkand) supported even more by the moment you enter sin, parts of Zanarkand can be seen. Yet the current official claim made a few years ago is that Dream Zanarkand is actually somwhere in Spira on the open sea... That has SO many ways to go wrong and makes no sense. Leave alone the existence of X-2, nobody was interested in what would have happened to the cast years after sin. People wanted a prequel where you play as Braska, Auron and Jecht. To see their story.
To be honest, I always thought Dream Zanarkand was inside Sin for the same reason you said. Although the claims of the Ultimania wouldn't be that implausible. It would explain how Tidus and Auron were able to get sucked up by Sin and he would be deposited at Baaj and Besaid, without having to explain why a spectral Sin appeared inside Sin itself. Plus, in a world without machina, they would not have had airships to fly over the seas long enough to discover Zanarkand. Though it also makes one wonder about Auron - "Being dead has its advantages. I was able to ride Sin, and go to your Zanarkand." But, Tidus rode Jecht-Sin just fine while "alive". It seems like one of those things that wasn't properly thought through. Also yes, I agree, the prequel was the one I wanted most. I enjoy X-2's gameplay but I prefer to imagine its story, in addition to whatever the hell the novella is, doesn't exist.
Yuna being strong versus desperate is debatable in my eyes. In FFX she was strong. In FFX-2, she became weak because of the idea that Tidus was somehow alive and became desperate to discover the truth. In other words, her strength completely gave way under the promise of hoping for more than what she gained. That's not strength. That's weakness. Though in all honesty, FFX never should've had a follow up in the first place. Anyone with half a brain can see it turned into a milk run the moment it had a sequel.
X-2 has already undone that though. Killing him now still cheapens the ending of x. But now would also cheapen the happiness of x-2. As far as Yuna goes, her arc in ten was great. Her arc in x-2 is entirely to save him. How on earth had she moved on? Learning to accept hes gone is good. It's not the same as letting him go when you CAN save him. X-2 probably just shouldn't exist at all. 10 was perfect. But if x-2 is going to exist then the happy ending is its ENTIRE point.
And as far as 10-2.5 goes that story is just cursed. At this point they've undone 10s perfect ending with 10-2. But at least we got the happy ending our hearts wanted. And then they undid the happy ending too with 10-2.5. It was just aweful. It felt like it was written by someone who just hated the romance plot to begin with.
pretty good write up and execution - but i feel like it was pretty heavy handed against Tidus. I get exactly what your point of view is, and i can see it either way - not a huge deal for me which direction they take it in, altho yea, I can see that its pretty weird if Tidus remains alive, yet other people are dead for good? Always made me wonder how anyone actually dies in FF's, because of revive spells or phoenix downs xD but the whole video seemed anti Tidus and well, a lot, if not all of it, has to do with the writing. Yuna, in a legitimate and realistic sense, given the actions & scenario's of FFX and X-2, would, in no-way just straight up ignore Tidus after he was revived. Thats just how they wrote that it happened! They were 'in love' in FFX, and despite what the video would have u believe, yes, people can fall in love despite not having every single thing in common. A lot of time, bonding relationships are created when thoughts, feelings, vulnerabilities and past experiences are shared. So yea, they went on the journey. Tidus, trying to learn more about Spira, how he got there, how to get home, and eventually found himself wanting to protect Yuna, which then lead to him finding out about his dad being involved. Yuna's dad was involved, was a pretty cute chick, didnt know much about blitzball, but still said she wanted to see Tidus play some day (i mean, what chick wouldnt be interested in a world famous athlete?, even tho that sport was 1,000 years ago) The narrator of the video, again, pretty brutal on Tidus. Saying that, since he's ignored, and spent 2 years not practicing, and since he's no longer "good" at blitzball, what point does he even have in living? jeeez!! harsh! again - its just how it was written in that Novel Price of Eternity, which to me, must have been written by someone who was completely different than the director of X or X-2. Because it seems that novel went completely away from the direction of X and X-2, where all they wanted was to be together but they had to save the world. Now they write that novel and Yuna, after an entire game of X2 trying to get him back, now all of a sudden is too busy for him>? Just doesnt make sense - but thats how they wrote it, so apparently "it happened like that".. which is stupid. Just because they wrote it like that, doesnt mean its the realistic outcome or that its good. In terms of the X3 tho, yea, they could do a few things. If Spira ends up being in chaos because the farplane has lost so many of its souls - it could end up being that, to put things back in order, she must choose between living in a world where souls come back, prolly as monsters (thats how the pyreflies were described, as souls of the fallen, spiteful and vengeful towards those who still live, that manifest as monsters in the game) or having to set things right, by killing off or sending these vengeful spirits back to the farplane, for good.. which would ultimately include Tidus. This could also serve to drive a wedge between them, causing Tidus to become a villain. Yuna wanting to do whats right for the wolrd, yet Tidus becomming greedy and selfish with just having been brought back, and not wanting to be sent back to the farplane. thats just 1 thread or route i could see the game taking.. but apparently, Japanese writers and those who envision the stories of FF's have some pretty outlandish, yet at times, brilliant story arcs.. so, we'll just have to see where they go with it, if they make it at all. cheers
HeroSosh aww don't get me wrong, I love Tidus. He's probably my favourite! But the thing is, in his own world Blitzball was a living. He loved his life, being the star. In Spira he only got that feeling really once he became Yuna's guardian, but now that their journey is over, there's nothing left. He has to start from square one with Blitzball which if you've ever done a sport and then quit and then went back, it's hard to start over. To rebuild yourself with little resources and support from those around you. I just feel bad for him. He didn't ask to come back... Yuna did and now she's ignoring him... it's not a fun feeling 😭
I am a Aerith fan yet if they brought her back to life it would ruin her. If she didn't die, the world would died from Sephiroth and meteor. Holy didn't save the day, aerith and the people within the lifestream did.
Eh, I see it as more hilarious than anything. The whole point to Aeirth dying was because sometimes people die and they dont suddenly come back like a fairy tale. That's what Squeenix has said about it anyway. Her death was necessary to the message as well as story. Then you have Titus make a sacrifice and dies at the end. Sad but in a sense neccessary for the world. Only to have a not that good sequel say, "jk he alive again if you want" when the story in the game had to do with love, loss, and death and acceptance of those three. It seems tonely weird for it's own game, and directly in opposition to a previous FF game you mentioned that had an impactful death. But then again, him being alive again doesn't ruin or help X2 be a better game so it doesn't matter. It's fine or whatever. I still am so confused by the vast difference between those games. X: the apocalypse is back, time to stop it with our hero whose life is not real and a woman who is knowingly moving to sacrifice her life for the world. X2: we Charlie's Lara Croft Angels now with popstar and cosplay elements and a minigame where I'm pretty sure you give a woman an orgasm (what the shit with that back rub? You Kratos with your minigames now, Yuna?). It's hard to do sequels for FF games it seems as none of them have been all that good. Looking at you Lightning and Vincent.
Yep. It did. While I enjoyed X-2, I can't exactly disagree that making a sequel was probably nothing more than SE's attempt at fan-service in every way possible. I mean, it practically existed _just_ so Yuna could get Tidus back and please the YunaxTidus fans. I like the pairing too, but as others have said: not every story has a happy ending. Interestingly enough though, SE seems to like expanding on the storylines that _don't_ need an expansion.
That I understand but I also saw it as Tidus breaking and beating the cycle of death that ruled Spira. Especially with those hints that SE have been putting out that death is not really the end with the heroes because of the crystals. Also wasn't 2.5 a fanfiction that was released by accident
Interesting way of looking at it. But the thing is -- can you call it 'death" when he never even existed? Tidus was a dream of the fayth; so he was never a real person to begin with. As for 2.5, I know very little about it so I can't say for suree.
That is true. I guess based on the song someday the dream will, looks like the dream became a reality (sorry for the bad pun). It was probably a gift for Yuna after saving Spira multiple times
I can see that being the case. Don't get me wrong -- I love the YunaxTidus pairing, and I was happy he returned in the end. But I mean, if you're going to make a game for the sole purpose of pleasing a fanbase, then you're basically choosing quantity over quality -- which is kind of a bad decision in the gaming industry. Heck, in _most_ industries.
If there is going to be an FFX-3. Than here is what would like to see. 1.) Tidus and Yuna are happily married and have kids of their own to look after, all the while Yuna is Helping Wakka and Lulu adjust to the new roles as Village Elders. 2.) Paine are Rikku are still sphere hunters that are continuing to find treasure from ruins from long lost to Spira's history. Have Kimahri show up from time to time, or make part of the new Council of Spira that helps peacefully negotiate Spira's current state. 3.) Just have new Party Members, for FFX-3. Cause if your going to continue this story, than you need some characters who are adjusting to this new climate, outsiders to any of the Pervious knowledge that the former Final Fantasy X crew know. All the better if they learn and mature enough to decide for themselves, and I wouldn't mind if Tidus started wearing Sunglasses and challenging the newest protagonist. Also. None of the material from the Audio Drama or 2.5 Novel should ever be considered Canon towards this entry.
Update: Saw a bust picture of Tidus wearing Jecht's Headband. Awesome! I wouldn't mind seeing him wear that and/or Auron's sunglasses to reflect that he's learned Alot from both his Father and Mentor.
Tidus coming back by the faith was retconned by the 2.5 novel. I think the writer realised he made a mistake giving Tidus the rebirth in the way it's shown in FFX-2's perfect ending. He wanted a platform for X3 and to get their he wanted Yuna to "will" Tidus into existence as her summoner power grows. He really dropped the ball with that as now it just seems stupid to have him die once again in the 2.5 novel and raised through summoned powers which are going to be difficult to explain in X3
Nobody cares about the novel, and X-3 aint happening. But yeah, killing him again to resurrect him again was plain stupid. That whole novel is stupid. Also, Tidus comes back in the original game, not in X-2.
I have a feeling that FFX-3 would entail a tragic ending for our beloved heroes Tidus and Yuna. It seems that based on the novella, the fate of Tidus is already sealed. Tidus is living on a borrowed time. As to Yuna, if she ever embarked on another pilgrimage, I don't believe she would be able to survive it this time. At the end, she might also realise that she can only be together with Tidus in death and choose death willingly.
I must be one of the few that actually loved X-2. I'm pretty sure I've clocked more hours in X-2 over X. Also, I hope there isn't an X-3 if it follows the novel and drama. It's literally the plot of hundreds of fan fictions - including one of mine. XD The only reason I'd honestly ever want a sequel is to see Spira, built from the ground up in HD. (An actual world - not a big road/hallway - Not that I minded it. I'd just LOVE to see the entire map of Spira you see when selecting a destination on the airship to be playable)
Sorry I will have to disagree with you. Between the ending when Yuna jumps to meet "Tee-dus" not "Taydus" AND the scene at Zanarkand when she hugs him and pushes him to see if he's real or not, THAT is after his head blew and Yuna brought him back again. So she was so happy with him, they even shared a night together (go back and read the novel). So your point about Yuna moving on is wrong, the proof, she brought him back again ! And she'll do it again and again. Now the events AFTER that scene, says that Tidus is not being himself again. Could be anything, but also, the fact that Yuna avoiding him for his own sake is sooooo Yuna-like. She could be trying to find a solution in the mean time, but Tidus is also not the guy same she knew back then. Side effects maybe ? So these will be elements for the next FFX-3 (if there will be any) and we all know that Sin is gonna be back again. We will see how things will play. BUT Tidus and Yuna must get together cuz they both sacreficed a lot for each other to be with each other. I don't even understand why you feel that he shouldn't be back or that Yuna moved on.....
@@FinalFantasyUnion actually no..i read it it takes place after he been there for a while..espicially cuz the ffx2 last mission explains tidus and yuna has been in besaid for couple months relaxing n being love birds...and the bomb thing they were trapped in a different reality in besaid island..like a dream world..
Why are we still talking about the novel? On the other hand, it was never stated the extra scene in X-2 takes places after the novel, considering it was made years before that novel even existed. And about X-3...that aint gonna happen, the reception for the novel and the audio drama was terrible...not to mention, the reception for X-2 was already bad tl begin with...you are separating Yuna and Tidus, one of the most beloved couples in gaming's history? Auron's daughter? Sin is back? WHAT
No way! FFX-2's the perfect ending is exactly how the story needed to end. Both Yuna and Tidus had so much strife, and fought hard for what they needed. Yuna's story is just amazing, changing from a soft spoken daughter to traveling far and wide for her love. The story ends with them starting lives together! Happy and looking forward to the the future with one another.
Tell you the truth, it would piss me off too my core spending over 200 hours in ffx for Tidus too die, than going into FFX-2 Too get Tidus back going through all the pain and effort, just for FFX-3 too kill him again. I say no, Tidus deserves too be real, not a dream.
I believe in order to stop the beckoning loop, Yuna has to make hard decision to "let go" Farplane all together to stop Sin, meaning no more summoning, and Tidus...
Yuna is in love, she can't just forget him Tidus needed to come back I play the game so they can be together again thats the point of the game in my eyes why should every else have a happy ending and not her.
Sorry, but I have to disagree with you! I did like the video and your explanations, but I see it from a different point of view. Yuna is too stubborn to accept some things, this is too clear for all of us. She does her stuff in her own way. And the audio drama clearly showed us that she is too worried about Tidus (Teedus), and for that reason, breaks with him. The journey of X-3 could be made by making her even stronger than X ending, with full control of pyreflies, the main source of spira's power. The fact that she loves Tidus doesn't mean that she became a limited character. On the contrary. Thinking about Tidus, the lust for Spira's power to destroy the beckoning, and became a full powered summoner to rebuild everything that she wants, do you not think of this as a good development? I do think this is the ideal way to finish X history. They can explore the mithology created from Spira's world. This would be great Ps: The way they did FFX begs for a happy ending hahahaa
disagree he earned to life why the tidus hate my perfect ending is yuni and tidus to marry and have their own kids lulu and wakka did already get to now about t5he journey braska jekkt auron did it should b e about chuami and kurgum or braska but leave that shitty love drama and break supposed break up out and the stupid merle who is now a clingy friend to tidus i also dont like that kurgum thinks he loves yuna he dont know her he maybe admires and crush on her but love nope
They'll never make a FFX-3 because they already decided that, following the event of FFX -Will-, they would let the fans decide how things end for this Final Fantasy story. So yeah, this whole video is pretty pointless if you know that FFX -Will- exists and that it has an open ending.
@@clguzman20 They pretty much confirmed it without outright saying it. The devs answered that there are no plans for a FFX-3 not so long ago. Then there's the fact that the FFX story is basically over already if we only look at the story through the games and not count in the novels and audio drama. If we do look at the novels and audio drama, there is far too little material to produce a 3rd game on, especially since the novel Price of Eternity receive tons of negative criticism and the audio drama ends on a cliffhanger that basically restarts the whole original FFX story but replacing the character development of that game with unnecessary romantic angst. Said cliffhanger, as I said before, was an open ending that the creators stated they wanted to leave up to the fans to decide how it ends... that ain't something you leave a game on, that would be a horrible decision. So what then? A continuation of FFX -Will-? Like I said, that's basically a retelling of FFX because Sin returns and Yuna swears to once again defeat it... but considering that Jecht is no longer the one driving Sin and Yu Yevon is likely also not present (thus making this Sin basically a hostless shell without a mind) and Aeons are gone as well, what can you pull our of your ass to end this story on? FFX-3 would be a mess if it followed what the novels and audio drama have done and even if it ignores those it hardly has a reason for existing since FFX-2's true ending is Tidus reuniting with Yuna and Yuna's journey coming to an end. In short: story is done, no reason to keep extending it.
I call him Tidus the same way you do, cause the other way just sounds stupid. Also, i never thought of this on the way you spoke about it. How she seemed stronger and could live without him. How his sacrifice was weakened since he came back later. i see what you mean about him coming back. To be honest, i can agree, and slightly disagree as well. I am NOT hoping they make X-3 cause killing him off AGAIN is just getting ridiculous. It should probably just be left alone. Should have been left alone after X or even after X-2. Not even having the other canons exist.
A lot in FFX isn't what it seems story-wise. For example, there is no time travel. Tidus' Zanarkand is inside Sin in the same time as Yuna's time. Also, Yuna keeps a distance to Tidus after their reunion to protect him. She even lies about seeing someone else to try to make him give up on her. Hopefully if there's future material on this, it'll make this more clear, because a lot of people don't seem to get that.
Shuyin: omg im a huge fan of tidus from zanarkand abes!!! I will totally copy his hairstyle and clothing. Hundreds of years later... Yuna: it all began when i saw this sphere of you...
I'd probably be one of the few who agrees with you. As much as I 'ship' Tidus and Yuna 5ever, your points are very well made. Now I see that their romantic relationship is very fickle. In the end, you recognize that Yuna's gracefulness was more a means of fulfilling expectation, rather than a consistent, genuine nuance of her personality. Meanwhile, she's just as stubborn and immature as Tidus. Honestly, it would have been awesome for that factor to have been expounded on gradually in FFX, and a great way for the two to develop a distinctive bond, beyond their initial, circumstantial connections. Perhaps what really stunts the endings, in summation, regardless which one you end up getting, is that the emotions being displayed are not very dimensional enough. In the case of both FFX and FFX2, it seemed like the writing, for all its engagement and intrigue, was ultimately a bit stunted.
I think Tidus, shouldn’t die but he should meet a nice girl who would be willing to sacrifice everything for him just as he did for Yuna. It’s clear to me that Yuna obviously didn’t value Tidus as much as he did her.
Honestly a bias opinion straight feminist bs sorry but if you cross the world for someone why wouldn’t you get the person back when someone dies that’s the thing that you want most
It makes more sense for the "bad" ending as a way to say"ok this story is done" Yuna moves on with her life is a much better ending for her and I feel the "happy" ending with Tidus coming back is just a way to appease the people that want the "happy ever after " after the ending of X. I will admit they at the start of playing X-2 I was one of those until I saw how Yuna developed and became stronger and didn't need Tidus anymore
I completely agree with your viewpoint. One of this channel's best and most reflective videos. Yuna was the protagonist of FFX, and Tidus' sacrifice was one that should have been left alone, as a permanent event that reflects the overall theme of the game. Unlike other FF games where the heroes were faced with incredible odds to overcome, the summoners of Spira chose to face a journey to save their world knowing it would cost their lives. Their hope was not to succeed with everyone walking away as heroes, but in making it possible for others to benefit from their sacrifices. It's a frightening thought within reality to confront; to spend your life mentally preparing yourself to survive, until the point where you must willingly relinquish that will to save the lives of others. Few could complete such a pilgrimage. The real victory of the story is learning that the cycle can be broken, and all of the lives threatened by a ceaseless cycle of death can be liberated. To become the summoner that ends the cycle and lives, after so many have died before you to save the world, is the ultimate victory of the story. Unfortunately for some it's not as flashy as just pulverizing your enemy into oblivion. The subtlety of breaking traditional and societal norms, and defeating a corrupt system after learning the truth, was mind blowing for me to experience in a game as a young teenager. FFX was a visual and narrative artistic leap for gaming; it was interactive storytelling as an art form. It felt so different from just beating a boss, and it gave discovering the truth and fighting for change in the world a tangible feeling of accomplishment. The poetic balance of FFX's theme of sacrifice is that Yuna regains hope, believing that everyone will persevere and survive the ordeal, only to discover that Tidus inherited her silent perturbation. In that final moment, they were closer than they ever were on their journey, as Tidus finally knew exactly what Yuna had to experience and face throughout. FFX was not without it’s flaws (I still don’t care much for Tidus) but overall it was the one of the best examples of a balance of responsibility between a female and male lead character in the series, and really felt like they were finally mentally, and emotionally, connected in that final moment. If people placed themselves in Yuna's position, rather than in Tidus', the ability to survive breaking the cycle is the happiest ending, albeit an emotionally bittersweet one. X-2 was a tremendous let down; I was glad they embraced an entirely heroine focused title, but it betrayed the overall narrative, with some unnecessary and problematic hyper-sexualization to add insult to injury. But I was most frustrated with how it felt like they cheapened Yuna.
Ive also thought about this and came to the same conclusion that Tidus needs to die. But if it's only just him dying (fading) the plot will be no different that the first entry (ffx), which is why I think that it would be much more impactful if both TIDUS AND YUNA sacrifice themselves to save Spira from whatever the new threat may be. This way both the story arc of the summoners journey (sacrifice) and the fate of Fayth (fading) can reach a conclusion.
X-2 should have just been a prequel with Auron, Jecht, and Braska. Could have introduced a few new characters, maybe show a few familiar (younger) faces. Could have been wonderful.
I think FFX2 shows yuna develop as a stronger, confident and slightly more rebellious person. I think that despite later in ffx2 she decided to put her feelings to one side and save spira, i think that Tidus was always at the back of her mind. She even mentions at the beginning about ‘probably never going to the farplane to see him’ because despite her being much stronger overall, deep down she is really struggling to accept hes gone and face up to it. I understand both endings and i like both. I think Tidus return should only teach them how precious they both are to one another and like other comments say, it is mentioned in last mission about their life together. I remember it being said that the audio drama was ‘open to fan interpretation’ so i dont think there is anything concrete in that. With the books and stuff i personally dont take any of that too seriously. This whole explosion killing tidus sounds like a bad rumour spread by the al bhed hahaha. Remember that Yuna mentions in X that she ‘fights for spira’. She was expecting to die, but she ends up living. She has a whole life ahead of her which she didnt ever think was possible. She probably is a little rebellious in X2 because she probably is a little lost as her aim focus and direction was sacrificing herself to defeat sin. She now doesnt have that focus, and in X she does also briefly fantasise in macalania about a life with Tidus (before they kiss). If she was ever not going to defeat sin, Tidus was going to be her life. Its also mentioned in X2 about how Yuna cant help herself, helping others. Saving Spira a second time gives her hope and focus and probably makes her life feel a little less empty without Tidus. knowing she is helping others probably gives her fulfilment, as a life without Sin was meant to be a life with Tidus, but at the time of X2 he is gone. I know some fans hate it, but I love her X2 incarnation. I think if they do make an X3, they should leave their relationship well alone or they will risk ruining the story (the audios and books already seem to do this) and give X3 a different focus. Dont over do and complicate the story - Let them be happy, i think thats what the majority wants. Maybe X3 can be about how Yunas popstar career is thriving with a string of number ones across spira? Is she the most followed person on spiras version of instagram? Haha.. im just kidding. But, with this audio, about the summoning of sin. There were a lot of summoners with the same dream as yuna, to defeat sin? Maybe a failed summoner is doing it so they can have their shot of greatness too? Idk just a thought.
Ok, so Yuna had a dream of her and Tidus getting killed in X-2, so in X-3 Yuna wants a causal life with Tidus. We still need to know the connection of Lenne and Shuiyn. But doesn’t mean Yuna is acting strong and brave doesn’t mean Tidus has to die. There wouldn’t be a point if they brought Tidus back to life. They both work great together. She has changed over the years but that’s it, she accepted the fact he’s gone but she still wanted him by her side did you see her reaction when he came back!!! It shows how much she loves him and how she cares for him. Why did they bring him back if they killed him again you said she’s just going to push him back but why would they bring him back if she’s jut going to ignore him. I feel like they deserve to be together for the toughest times they have been through!!
Maybe it would be a better story, but this is one of those cases where i'd sacrifice that for a happy ending. I mean the story and world of 10 is depressing enough already. Plus every other main ff couple gets to be together, so I say let Tidus and Yuna.
Nah I also still pronounce it as 'TIE-DUS' that 'TEE-DUS' crap is for the dogs XD
You do know that FFX had a secret ending that hinted that Tidus would return. Just Saying.

Also wasn't 2.5 considered as a fanfiction that was accidentally released
Kazushige Nojima, scenario writer for Final Fantasy X and X-2, explained to fans on the Square Enix website how he mistakenly sent off fanfiction to be published instead of the actual novel."
i understand your point, but I was legitimately happy when he comes back.
You should delete this video.
If they ever do make FFX-3 I pray to God that they ignore the novel story, It reads like a really bad fan fiction
mewtwo34 exactly what you said thank you
It was a bad fanfiction even the writer of the story confirmed it because it was released by accident
Although I'd like to believe that is the case, it wasn't as Final Fantasy X Will follows the Novel's lore quite well. I doubt they'd have released both properties by mistake.
At the end of the day the novel is really bad and it doesn't even follow its own lore
Indeed its has to be non canon fiction at best. But influenced a and was retconned as inspiration to write Will
the Last Mission takes place months after the ending of X-2 and Yuna mentions that they are still together.
Also getting killed by a Bomb when all of the FF heroes get blasted in every game
The only thing that appears canon is FFX Will and nothing else.
Tidus and Yuna deserve their happy ending, no strings attached.
twilightfire93 I agree
twilightfire93 I respect your opinions, but I don't think it's completely out of left field for Yuna to feel the way she does. Her 1st priority has always been her work. She was happy to go off and do her adventures with the gullwings
But once she's home, it's work time.
Not every relationship has to end in breakup to be realistic.
twilightfire93 I agree with you I believe the same Tides should be back with Yuna
twilightfire93 Yes thank you.
Square Enix is going to make X-3 about Tidus and Yunas son 'Tuna'. Screencap this comment lol.
LMAO
Oh my gosh thanks for the laugh!!😀😁😂
Hahahahahhaha
I'm crazy laughing alone 😂
My mom told me do I need help lol😂😂😂
Agreed leave them alone for god sake let them live happily ever after fuck the non canon shit
I agree with you. It's really fascinating to see it all unfold like it does.
"Tidus dying for good? I dont like your plan. It sucks."
- Yuna, 2021
Agreed.sounds like she loves the evil & hates the love.
lol. Someone that means the whole world to you dies and you have the chance to bring them back why would you just say "nah, they're alive in my heart dont worry about it, ive moved on"
Plot twist: Sin killing all the people of Spira opens up Etro's Gate.
Royce Jose Thus awakening the all-father god of light, Buhnivelze.
Oh no. Not like this.
Royce Jose oh god.
YES.
Thus Sin is actually just another Fal'Cie tasked for seeking Etro's Gate at another world that's why it kills in multitudes.
Well 10 should have ended in 10.
dylon brady I definitely agree!
Exactly. Why didn't FFUnion have a problem with the incredible detachment that was FFX2 from the original story!? Okay, 2 years pass and Yuna is a S-Class Gunner. Ok...
but tidus never died he came back at the ending of X
axeking3440 that was only hinted at.it could've just been a metaphor for being reborn before X-2 existed.
I partly agree. However continuing 10 to see how things have changed would have actually been good if they went for a different plot excluding Tidus completely. But they made it forcefully and unnecessary cheesy ...
Final Fantasy X is a masterpiece. FFX-2 is not.
Thank you!
X2 is great! Just come to terms with your emotions and you'll be able to handle the girlyness.
@@Coreisus I enjoy X-2 , and it is a fun game, but I feel that it would work better if it was about different characters with a greater time skip. As it is, it's just great gameplay (man I love the dress-sphere system) with a story that isn't the most well written.
Still better than ff12
What? Do you mean the "straight to DVD release" Sailor Moon-Final Fantasy crossover wasn't an absolute masterpiece? LOL. Who could have predicted THAT?! LOL.
The Novel was a mistake. You can literally google it. In the official interview, Kazuhige Nojima stated himself that he accidentally published a fan-made article while looking for inspiration instead of his original one, but seeing how far things have gotten, he refused to release his original work saying that it wouldn't have made any sense anyway. Here are his words;
“I needed inspiration for the Final Fantasy X-2.5 novel so I turned to some fanfiction I had read a few months ago,” wrote Nojima, “It turns out that I accidentally sent a fanfiction I was reading to the publishing team instead of the novel because I must have confused the two at some point. Honestly, it is very hard to distinguish between fanfiction and my official Final Fantasy novels because I think these fanfiction writers are very talented much like myself.”
Oh dear god, that explains it.
That's not true. It's a joke story from a website that publishes false stories for entertainment. The novel is canon.
@@duskfall_777 No, it definitely is not. Its bad fanfiction. Let it die, and forget about it.
@@Croftice1 think ppl forget it..he convince to kill sin another way..even if that means he would disappeared..he could have let the circle continued and lived on
Pretty much.
This is like complaining about Zidane coming back at the end of IX.
People sometimes deserve a happy ending.
nah I prefer ffX-3 to be about yuna's father journey
I agree!!!
THAt would be appropiate
From Auron's perspective!
And die at the end...we know the story we know the aeons ...what would be gained..moments of sphere recordings to Yuna and tidus...sounds really lame.
FF X dash 0
I'd rather Tidus die than to have Yuna and Tidus split up like in the X-2.5 light novels. Fuck that.
2:05 "From Tidus's time.."
No, 'Dream Zanarkand' is the whole reason Sin was made, it being far out into the sea and it exists in the present day world until the ending of FFX.
Tidus lived in Dream Zanarkand, while Shuyin existed a thousand years ago in the original Zanarkand.
@xheralt remember he was protecting it n over time he lost him self..so it just became instincts
FFX was one of the last best FF stories and worlds. I'm happy that Tidus is back so they can expand on the world again.
Perhaps they can redeem themselves in their upcoming title. Hopefully the battle system is revamped to a more modern one, etc...
Steven Del Toro Which one? Dissidia next year or Ffxiitza (woah) in like 2 weeks?
The whole novel is ridiculous.
About Tidus, he came back, something that happened in the original X.
X-2 barely gave an "explanation" to it.
i feel like you dont understand the difference between videogame stories and actual literature/movies
if a player puts in 100+ hours you dont give em a fucking tragic ending
you reward dedication
X still had a good story but i agree
Tidus is the main focus of the FFX franchise. He's the reason X-2 even happened because if Shuyin didn't look like Tidus, then Yuna wouldn't care enough to go on another adventure... And Tidus is a likeable character. You can't just kill him off and not bring him back!...
{cough} sorry Auron 😕
Auron wasnt a dream, Auron was freaking DEAD.
Also, by the end of X, he came to terms with him being sent, he wasnt part of the world, he wasnt suppoused to be there.
I think it would've been cooler to leave tidus dead in X-2 then bring him back in a surprise X-3 for an enemy stronger than sin
Out of all the scenarios people have been explaining, this is by far my favorite 👍
I mean people asked for Tidus to return, causing X-2 to exist. Taking him back is a feelsbad, and let's never, ever talk about X-2.5.
@@jacklarus lmao I was going to write a very similar thing. I'd play the crap out of that game, just hanging out on besaid, maybe play some blitzball.
Screw the novel, only the games matter.
Honestly I don't think Auron - Jecht and Braska on their own is a super interesting story. I don't think the game would do super well. It'd need more characters you could play to bring diversity and story to the game.
Having Tidus die in X, get brought back in X-2, and then die again in a hypothetical X-3 wouldn't be good. It'd just be annoying.
@@xzvmakiz5171 She doesn't have to die. The western fandom is literally just too stupid for complex stories.
FF X-III = Beating the Dead Horse
That was X-2
at this point a third person arrived to beat the person who was beating the dead horse...
I like tidus. I want him around for 10-3
Yes i like Tidus most in ffx characters
This is the exact vibe I got from this video.
agreed
Yeah piss on her and the love hating garbage. Tidus earned the right to live a happy life with his gal.
i agree 100%
So true
That wasnt the good ending that was the sad ending
But X already had Tidus coming back
I've always pronounced his name the same way, Teedus just sounds so wrong and grates the ears.
....some people will just never be happy no matter how squenix ends a story.... sad face!
Gaius People were pissed at him dying and they wanted him back but now they don't lol
In 3, Tidus should return as the main playable character.
Title should be renamed, " why feminist believes tidus should die because yuna is a strong, indepedent woman"

Same people that never fell in love
Hit the nail on the head.
Have your like, Mr lol
Woman in green skirt: My Lady Summoner!
Little girl: You’re a summoner?
Yuna: Yes. My name is Yuna.
Little girl: I’m Calli.
Yuna: Nice to meet you, Calli.
Calli: Lady Yuna, are you going to bring us the Calm?
Yuna: Yes, very soon.
Calli: Yay! (Runs circles around Yuna)
Mother: We’re looking forward to another Calm, My Lady Summoner.
Yuna: I’ll do my best.
Mother: And good luck to your guardians as well.
[Guys preen, Lulu doesn’t stir. Calli and Mom wave goodbye and leave.]
Tidus: What’s the calm?
Lulu: The Calm is a time of peace. It comes after a summoner defeats Sin, and lasts until Sin reappears.
Tidus: Eh… huh?
Yuna: Sin dies and is reborn.
Tidus: I get it! I thought it was weird. Yuna’s dad defeated Sin ten years ago, right? But Sin’s still here! Didn’t make much sense till now.
Tidus: Wait… If it just comes back…
Yuna: Don’t say it isn’t worth it…Because it is.
(The Dream Zanarkand itself being in a constant loop, starting from the most distant memories of the collective summoning Faith, leading to the final memories of those who were last to be killed by Sin when it first appeared, constantly re-dreaming Zanarkand in a timeperiod roughly 100 years before Sin's first appears up to the moment it appears and destroys Zanarkand )
Result:
Shuyin (actually a 1000 years ago) had the ambition to become a Blitzballer just like his dad Jecht, but was never able to rise form his shadow, frustrated he decided to join the army of Zanarkand instead, thinking his skills in battle would be useful in the war with Bevel, events leading to him meeting Lenne on the field of battle as allies.
(tough I'm not against a all female cast, could have used a lot less rainbows and reality somehow staying at bay to give way for the ridiculous plot points)
I mean the combat system is literally a dress-up party.
Leave alone the existence of X-2,
nobody was interested in what would have happened to the cast years after sin.
Harkz0r Tidus wasnt technically alive is why.
Always made me wonder how anyone actually dies in FF's, because of revive spells or phoenix downs xD
but the whole video seemed anti Tidus and well, a lot, if not all of it, has to do with the writing. Yuna's dad was involved, was a pretty cute chick, didnt know much about blitzball, but still said she wanted to see Tidus play some day (i mean, what chick wouldnt be interested in a world famous athlete?, even tho that sport was 1,000 years ago)
The narrator of the video, again, pretty brutal on Tidus.
Yuna did and now she's ignoring him... it's not a fun feeling 😭
if people had a chance to bring arith to life in ff7 they would say YES DO IT !!! for real why r people mad about ffx2 story Dx
Cause you can never satisfy a Final Fantasy fan.
I am a Aerith fan yet if they brought her back to life it would ruin her. If she didn't die, the world would died from Sephiroth and meteor. Holy didn't save the day, aerith and the people within the lifestream did.
i'd be fine if they didn't bring her back her and cloud are still in love anyway
#TidusLivesMatter
Didnt FFX have a secret ending that hinted his return.
Yep.
*Tidus is already dead to begin with in FFX just like Auron. They're just spirits bound by sin.*
Tidus is not dead.
Tidus was a dream/an aeon part of a dream summon that we see the Faith's for on mountain gagazet. Yu yevion was the summoner.
Update:
Saw a bust picture of Tidus wearing Jecht's Headband.
@@Jose-se9pu no he doesn't. That is a flash forward to the true ending of x2. It's a teaser of what's to come
I have a feeling that FFX-3 would entail a tragic ending for our beloved heroes Tidus and Yuna.
XD
The only reason I'd honestly ever want a sequel is to see Spira, built from the ground up in HD. (An actual world - not a big road/hallway - Not that I minded it. I'd just LOVE to see the entire map of Spira you see when selecting a destination on the airship to be playable)
He doesn’t. Saved you 10 minutes.
I don't even understand why you feel that he shouldn't be back or that Yuna moved on.....
aminedbgt it's not. The novel takes place right after the scene on besaid island. They are still on the beach celebrating when the novel starts.
Well this is the part where you're wrong. You should go back and read it.
Titus is awsome why do you want to kill him 😭😭😭😭😭
Tell you the truth, it would piss me off too my core spending over 200 hours in ffx for Tidus too die, than going into FFX-2 Too get Tidus back going through all the pain and effort, just for FFX-3 too kill him again. I say no, Tidus deserves too be real, not a dream.
this discussion abou tidus has to die in x-3 is so unnecessary. ask Tabata to do it he will kill everyone off
I couldn't agree more :)
I Concur.
I believe in order to stop the beckoning loop, Yuna has to make hard decision to "let go" Farplane all together to stop Sin, meaning no more summoning, and Tidus...
She doesnt summons tho..no one does afte ffx
Rikku should be the main character in x-3
Paine.
This would be great
Ps: The way they did FFX begs for a happy ending hahahaa
But i think auron's daughter and the young summoner will be the main character in FFX-3(will)
If they make this, better not doing a FF X-3 hahah. Tidus and, especially Yuna, are the heart of the history
@@aurelioventurelli3967 yeap, But maybe Yuna will be the main Villain in FFX-3, because she is 'Corrupted in Love' for Tidus HAHAHAHA
I think the best way is that once tides was brought back that after period of time instead of killing him off that they just go there separate ways
More like why the idea of X-3 needs to die
TheSuperWayne There's only one way i can see X-3 happen, and that's if Best dad is the protagonist
disagree he earned to life why the tidus hate my perfect ending is yuni and tidus to marry and have their own kids lulu and wakka did already get to now about t5he journey braska jekkt auron did it should b e about chuami and kurgum or braska but leave that shitty love drama and break supposed break up out and the stupid merle who is now a clingy friend to tidus i also dont like that kurgum thinks he loves yuna he dont know her he maybe admires and crush on her but love nope
From your description of the novels, I don't like any of those stories. It sound like the authors are grasping at straws.
They'll never make a FFX-3 because they already decided that, following the event of FFX -Will-, they would let the fans decide how things end for this Final Fantasy story.
So yeah, this whole video is pretty pointless if you know that FFX -Will- exists and that it has an open ending.
So your tell us they are not going to a FFX-3 at all?
There shouldn't be X-2 or X-3 to begin with.
why?
clguzman20 Rather have a 16
Steve Galasky what?
clguzman20 Nothing, I'd just rather have a whole new game in the series like ffxvi than another 10-?
A lot in FFX isn't what it seems story-wise. For example, there is no time travel. Tidus' Zanarkand is inside Sin in the same time as Yuna's time. Also, Yuna keeps a distance to Tidus after their reunion to protect him. She even lies about seeing someone else to try to make him give up on her. Hopefully if there's future material on this, it'll make this more clear, because a lot of people don't seem to get that.
I'm glad tidus is back tbh
Shuyin: omg im a huge fan of tidus from zanarkand abes!!! I will totally copy his hairstyle and clothing.
Hundreds of years later...
Yuna: it all began when i saw this sphere of you...
There shouldn't have been a X-2!
At least a X-2 that wasn't awful
Rithysak Serey it was a 6 or 7 outta 10
@Rithysak Serey why?
Preach
disagree
In the case of both FFX and FFX2, it seemed like the writing, for all its engagement and intrigue, was ultimately a bit stunted.
your the type that will kill the hero after gong through hell
nature gave tidus a second chance
This is not my story
I think Tidus, shouldn’t die but he should meet a nice girl who would be willing to sacrifice everything for him just as he did for Yuna. It’s clear to me that Yuna obviously didn’t value Tidus as much as he did her.
I can see your point but I am sorry I adore the perfect ending of x-2 and I would not want for tidus to die in x-3 that's my opinion of course
Honestly a bias opinion straight feminist bs sorry but if you cross the world for someone why wouldn’t you get the person back when someone dies that’s the thing that you want most
Happy to give this a thumb down.
FF13 for PS4! anyone?!
The head blowing off thing was a mis-translation.
monkeyswag57 finally someone who knows.
PAPA SMURF How was it a mis-translation?
