Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed in the fifth an final game in the need for Speed series released on the original playstation (if you don't count the US releases of V-Rally). The game was released in the year of 2000 and also goes by the names of NFS: Porsche 2000 in the EU and NFS: Porsche in Asia. "Unlike other NFS titles, Porsche Unleashed centres on racing Porsche sports cars, with models ranging from 1950 to 2000. Unlike the previous four Need for Speed games, Porsche Unleashed was not released in Japan." The game bares little resemblence to the PC game released the following month after the ps1 release.
After watching the intro, I open up the longplay showing the Porsche History video that is unlocked right from the start. From here I then play through the Factory Driver mode which is a series of skill tests which you progress through to unlock some super cars for Single Race mode. Thankfully there are considerably fewer tests than in the PC version.
I then play through evolution mode starting the Classic era. This is where the main bulk of the game is played. Each era has 3 tournaments (3 classes) which are raced in order to gain money. the money is then spent on buying faster cars for the fasdter classes. Completing the Tournaments then unlocks the next era. But not so fast. Before moving to the other eras, I also complete the weekend races and Race track events. More money is earned here as well as unlocking additional trophies. The cars get more expensive and the races more difficult as we progress through each era. Money is also tight and I need to sell previously used cars in order to progress in a timely fashion.
It was evident playing through class 1 in the golden era that the cheaper cars are not going to cut it if you want to win. I have to block the whole time to get through the race and it took me a few attempts to get it right. So for the Modern era I try to use the fastest and cost effective cars to get through the events. Selling the cars after gets a good return anyway. After completing the three era modes, I show of a single race in the Chase mode. This is a poor mans hot persuit as you outrun a single cop. The tracks are interesting as all routes are open so you have a tiny amount of free roam option to make your escape. It is a shame that none of the modes have traffic enabled as it would have added a little something to the game. You currently just see the odd car in the Factory driver mode as an obstacle to avoid.
The game engine seems to be lacking compared to the previous couple of games. It's in low res mode and not a whole lot of light sourcing. A glow from the rear lights is about it. no headlights/beams. There are some weather effects in the game, but it more like an overlay as they have no visual effect on your car. The game has a varied sound track which differs in style between the 3 era's in evolution mode.
Completing the game seems a little anti climactic. You get the final video, but no automatic credit role. After completing the modern tournament there is a bonus you can collect at any time (one time). The amount differs depending on your game completion rating. I get it at after 100% completion and the amount received is possibly more than you can spend and at this point of no real use unless you want to buy every car for ...reasons.

Foi o meu primeiro game de carros, tinha 12 anos e nessa altura tinha apenas o PS1, só anos mais tarde tive o mu primeiro computador. Uma grande memoria da minha infância, eu tinha a versão Porsche2000 mas ambas são iguais eu acho. Sem duvida que iria adorar ver um dia um remaster deste game
Tenho 27 até hj não esqueço trilha sonora desse jogo...
Eu aprendi que nossa vida oq e muito bom jamais esquecemos...

I love the Golden Era
I think the golden era was when the NES came out in the early 80's. Back then we only had the 1-bit Atari system. When the Nintendo came out it had such good graphics at the time.👍🏻

Looks amazing for a PS1 title. At that time the PS1 cost $99 and made it possible for many people from around the world to enjoy the huge library of games available.

Amazing graphics for a PS1 game. Still look pretty decent imo.
The graphics are good for a PS1 game but I cn't find any words that accurately describe how the cars handle in this game. Even for an arcade racer the handling just looks very off.

Handling was way better on PC and whole game all together. Physics wasn't the best and it made you feel like driving paper car, but only at certain situations (hitting bump at high speed etc.). But hey, it's 19 years old.
The physics are fine for that time no racer has a perfect physics up to that time not even the pc version

Hace unos 20 años, yo tenía 8 años mi papá le regalo una PS1 a mi hermano mayor de 13 años, este traía unos cuantos juegos originales entre ellos venia este juego, hoy no se por que motivo se me dio por buscarlo, recuerdo pasar tardes jugando con mi hermano.
Hace 5 años mi hermano falleció y no sabes que nostalgia me da recordar esas tardes interminables en las que aveces terminábamos peleando jaja excelentes tiempos que quedan muy grabadas en la memoria y gracias a estos videos podemos regresar a esos tiempos, gracias al que lo subió.

This game is without a doubt ahead of it's time. The nostalgia of the menu, the graphics and everything is perfect. This is what a game is. Not what we have today. And I'm sincere when I say this.

Great one to see. Love both those part videos big time. Makes me think Gran Turismo combined with this game sounds like exciting fun. The reason why that is great with Gran Turismo combined because you can add racing car parts to all Porsche cars.

Probably one of the best ps1 games. I loved how the tracks changed with the times as well as the music. Golden era was always my favorite one, though my favorite car was the 993 Turbo.

@@amirgencyexitonly5818 this version is far more polished than pc version, it has better overall evolution mode, the best nfs menu design and even cars are more detailed here you can't see the break discs in pc version! Its trash
@@nightweels Yeah, this version has a little better test driver mode with no skid pad etc BUT the PC version blows this away in actual driving dynamics, physics and of course graphics. This PS version is just another continuation of the NFS 3 and 4 arcad-ish driving game. Oh also, don't even get me started with that god awful in-race music on the PlayStation. Trash!
Golden era is the time when i stayed for the very long time instead of proceeding to the modern era because of the music and the car as well. Here are the cars i used to use in golden era:
- Class 3: 944 and 924 turbo
- Class 2: 924 Carrera GT and both coupe and convertible of 944 turbo
- Class 1: 928 GTS turbo and 959, the fastest car even though this car is hard to control
Anyway, porsche 928 should've been in class 2 instead of class 1 because the power is only 240 hp while 944 turbo's power is 250 hp, the fastest car in class 2
959 & 917. the best cars in golden era

Yes! I record a lap in the epsxe emulator, my time was 45 seconds in Circuit C with the 917K.
I actually found a copy of this in my room, I tested it and it reads fine on the pc. Weird.

The trick to the evolution mode was buying a used 356 white roadster, winning the class 3, and then buying a used 550a and racing it in the Panamerican race, bringing good money. Then acquiring a few of the Panamerican cars to sell in modern era lol 😂
