    This was totally fun. I never use the cat tung brush and it was fun to try it in all these ways and see what I could do. Delightful. Thank you.

    I was interested in a subtle background just like this. Not white, sky blue, etc. Giving this a go. Thank you for this video!

    Thanks for posting the difference between the two papers. I really like this painting with the warm flowers and greens.

    Always amazing how the addition of darks always seem to “ brighten “ a painting, bring it to life…like the idea of tinting the paper first🙂

    I often tint my paper with a used wet teabag, gives a lovely antique look. Not sure how this will affect the watercolours or how fade proof it will be, but I am not selling my paintings they are purely for my own enjoyment !

    Wow I didn't know anything about 'toned' paper (that's because I'm not an artist but am trying), what a difference it makes.....very nice! Thanks much for sharing this. Going to try that paper as an exercise to help improve my crummy looking washes.

    Oh this is so pretty. It took me back to a time at my Great-grandmother's house sitting on her back porch slider. It was made of metal and she would let us you have lemonade. The flowers remind me of the cotton house dresses American housewives wore in those days. I also loved the darker background.

    What a difference the light wash makes! Thank you Diane. If I may mention here, for my fellow Canadian viewers🇨🇦, Amazon Canada has the Kuretake Art Nouveau for CAD55. Originally, CAD95. I’ve wanted this set ever since you’ve had it but could not justify paying over CAD100. Hope this makes others happy too😊

Bises chere amie , a bientot

    I have been using an old pad of Strathmore 500 series, 100% cotton paper. It is at least 20 years old and I have been amazed at how well it performs! I have read many articles about the sizing going south on old paper and I believe this is true. So for some reason my old paper is not as bad as I thought it would be.

    I use cheap watercolor paper that I make my own blocks out of and the paper always buckles if it gets damp. Just set it aside and allow it to dry and it will flatten right out.

    I love the Craftamo brushes ❤. I was painting this morning on wood pulp paper and the same thing happened to me. I usually make sure to thoroughly wet the paper but I didn't. I wet it until it was running and applied a second try. Not perfect but perfectly fun 😊.

    When I first started learning to draw and paint with Shayda Campbell, I remember her saying that paper is more important than paint. You’ve just proved that point. I tried out something this morning on Fabriano non cotton paper and it absolutely did not work. It’s great for practice but not for anything else.

    I got a large tray to put my Kuretake paints in. Do you have tutorial on how you put together the one you show in your tutorials? How do you keep the pans from sliding around? And, is it ok to not cover them? In their original form, they come with a plastic cover. I have your brushes, and after using the brushes for a couple of weeks, I really like them, especially the “cat’s tongue” one, which you are using in today’s video.

    I love the way toning the paper with color looks! It really adds something to the painting. Not something I usually think of. I’ve seen pre-toned paper, but really you can use any color you want on regular white and have much more variety.

    My 245th. Totally isolated trough 25 cm snow or even more. No traffic possible. My son had a traffic accident because of the snow. So I couldn't be as focused as usual. Thanks for the distraction😢 wim

    I’m just curious. What if you pre wet the pulp paper, then added your color wash. Do you think it would even things out or would it probably still be blotchy?

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  7 месяцев назад

      I think it would still be blotchy. I could live with that and paint over the uneven color, it would look fine. It’s interesting to see though, isn’t it!
