- In this week’s episode, I’m back metal detecting an uncharted 1700s site with the Minelab Manticore, and as you can imagine, the finds KEEP piling up! Once again, my unwillingness to go home without a coin led me to stay well past dark, but I got the job done! Balls, buttons, and coinage… oh my! Enjoy!

ohh man.. I would've gotten the Minelab pinpointer through you. Just received the minelab 40. Definitely better than the 35. but it looks like I can easily cover the speaker which really mutes the tone.
@@Shedding I’m glad you got one, regardless! I have always used my pinpointers on vibrate mode so I hadn’t noticed that. The speaker holes are larger than they are on the 35 though, so some people have found the 40 is louder.
@@StefDigs yeah.. the 40 is about 30% louder I would say. It is also more sensitive. I really do hope that this one lasts me longer than my old 35. Thank you for all your videos. They are so awesome. I wish I was in an area with older stuff like you, but I live in Southern California. The oldest coin I've found is from 1932. Ohh well.
@@Shedding thank you! I do what I can! 😊 I’m sure the 40 will work out better for you - definitely louder and more sensitive!
Great video to end my day! Bunches of buttons! And you moved up some notches in my book simply by saying "cool beans". Gotta love the 80's kids!!! 😊
Haha, thanks! I filmed something yesterday (part of a door jam or otherwise uninteresting piece) and said, “be kind, rewind” when I showed it cleaned up. 😆 Looks like a little VHS tape!
Let’s go let’s go treasure and adventure 🌺🌎👵✌️❤️🎉🇺🇸
You know it! 🤘🏻
You certainly were killing the buttons and pistol shot- well done my friend. Sweet KG II to end the day!
Thank you! It was an honest day of detecting in the woods - nothing crazy, but hitting that copper juuuust as the snowflakes of the incoming blizzard announced that it was time to leave? Priceless! 😄
Do enjoy your detecting productions Stef, you are blessed with good location and very good knoledge of your finds.
Keep on digging 😉🇨🇦
Thank you so much! Appreciate that! 😊
another fun one !!
Thank you! Was a good day in the woods!
I learn so much from you. You take the time to show a diagram of where the shoe buckle is and what it looks like complete, the saddle strap, previous videos which I learned what to look for a knee buckle,,,ETC,,,Thank You for the time and effort you put into your videos,,,,Don,,,Ps, first day out today. Short hunt, but dug a beautiful early 1800s button,,,,
Thank you so much, Don! Really appreciate the kind words - I can’t help but slip the education bits into my videos, I’d feel like I was doing the community a disservice if I didn’t, hah! Congrats on the button!
COOL Historical Discoveries THANK YOU
Thanks for watching! 😊
Great job Steff enjoy your snow ❄️ day 🙂
Thank you! I did, lol!
Wow Stephanie great vid and great digs! Wow KG 1750...oh so yummy! And all of those buttons!! ❤
Thank you! Was a solid day!
Hey Stef. What a button day huh lol Libe the KG in the dark at the end ! The wife says she LOVES the spikes ! Gr8 vid as always
Thank you! And thanks to your wife for the compliments on my hair, lol! It was definitely the day of the buttons. 😆
Nice Hunt Stef! Keep it up! Look forward to seeing what all the musket ball mystery is about! Take care.
Thank you! It culminates with a BANG. 😉
I like the manticore a lot! Is it your favorite? It seems to pick up everything even at deeper depths! I'm sure this site has much more to uncover. There's bound to be some jaw-dropping bucket listers besides the KG2s, buckles, ball & lots of buttons! Keep on digging, Stef, and I'll catch you on the next. ✌️ 😊
Glad you like yours! Mine is the only machine I use now - I feel a little guilty that I only swung my 900 for a few months, lol! And the poor old 600 has made its way to the closet. 🥲 There are a few INCREDIBLE finds coming up - I can honestly tell you the best is yet to come by a LONG shot!
Awsome Steff enjoy the snow ❄️
Thank you! Thankfully the snow has come and gone!
Way to keep us hanging!! Sounds like you have a heck of a spot!!
Thank you! I’ve got a couple of ridiculous finds in the pipeline, but something I alluded to at the very end takes the cake! 😳
@@StefDigs can’t wait to see what’s next!!
@@trybren nobody is going to believe it, I couldn’t! 😂 It’s one of those things every kid dreams of finding before they even pick up a machine. 🤐
Hey I love your videos and I have learned so much about the Manticore. I would love to see a video about the settings you use while you are metal detecting. I have found so many things thanks to you I used the Equinox 800 for two years and now I'm trying to learn the Manticore!! Keep swinging and digging sweet treasures!
That's awesome, thanks so much! Glad you're swinging a Manticore, because you're gonna love it more and more as time goes on!
Great job Steff 👏
Thank you!
What a great site! That shoe buckle frame is gorgeous! Congrats on the KGII as well.
Thank you! The best is STILL yet to come, I can barely contain my excitement over something I found there last week!
@@StefDigs awesome! Looking forward to it!!
@@digginghistory76 hint: there isn’t a digger alive who doesn’t want to find one. That should really narrow it down… kidding, of course. 😆
Crazy nice finds!!!
Thank you! 😊
Your shirt 😂I’m a horrible mom, I used to say that phrase to my boys before we’d go random places. Get in, loser! We’re going metal detecting. Awesome way to end the day before the snow hits. I can’t wait to see what you’ve learned about the spot. ✌🏼❤️😊🍀
Haha, thank you! You can’t see the full hoodie but it has a UFO on it with humans being beamed up. The full text is, “get in loser, we’re doing butt stuff.” 😆 It’s probably my favorite article of clothing, LOL - I wear it so often that it’s all pilly, I need to get a new one!
@@StefDigs 😂😂 brilliant. I love it.
Gday Stef. Good honest hunt. Lots of buttons. Congrats on the KG2. Was in good nick for its age. Snow you say. We are heading into a long weekend in the high 30s C. Think 38 for most days. Early morning detecting I think. Take care mate 🦘🦘😁👍
Thanks Andrew! Yup, that’s an honest typical New England hunt for you, absolutely! That was filmed at the beginning of January, thankfully it’s warming up now! It the 50s Fahrenheit over here now. 😁
Great video Stef!!
Thank you! Lots of roundness in one way or another! 😆
Brill vid Stef keep them coming 😀
Thanks Neil! That’s the plan! 😊
Awsome dig Steff 👌
Thank you!
Slowly getting used to the Manticore. Found a new place the other day found 3 1800s buttons and some other cool things. I need to find a colonial era site, everything by me is State land or you need watershed access permission. Plenty 1800s sites though.
Any questions, you know where to find me! 😊 Takes some getting used to, but once you know it, you’ll never want to swing anything else, lol! Thankfully out here we can detect town land as long as it isn’t a school or something, and as long as it’s not owned by the City of Norwich (off limits, archaeologists only). Very fortunate to live where I do! 1800s sites can alllllllways turn up earlier stuff, though. 🤞🏻
I do love Diggin buttons!!!!
There were plenty of them! 😂 Take a guess at how many I’ve dug there - I finally counted them up.
@@StefDigs 42
@@EZDiggin not too bad, but you’re short… 58!
@@StefDigs 😂😂
@@EZDiggin it’s pretty absurd 😂
Awsome dig
Thank you! 😊
You said, "cool beans" insert beavis and butthead laugh here. I haven't heard that since 89. Lol. Not tryna guess Your age darlin. What a blast from the past tho! Thanks for that. Seriously. Excellent hunt as always! You are my favorite 🤩
Haha, thank you! Appreciate the kind words! Did you see the episode of Beavis & Butthead that recently aired (yes, recently!) where they grilled Quarter Hoarder? It was SO GOOD. 😂 I was cackling, omg. Hilarious that the creators tripped across Jason’s channel and featured them on the show! It was the same style they’ve always done, but instead of music videos, I guess they grilled RUclipsrs. 😆
@@StefDigs OMG that was hilarious!
@@Brando_Magnifico I was up late one night at a digging event when I intercepted the news that they’d made it to Beavis & Butthead… 😂 I was CACKLING outside the hotel and just hoping my team leader at Minelab would need a 3am smoke break so I wasn’t alone… alas! 🤣
@@StefDigs I was so surprised because beavis and butthead only made fun of music videos back in the day. The evolution makes sense tho. Soo freakin funny!
@@Brando_Magnifico it was absolute gold! The way they kept picking on Doug and snickering like they do… 🤣
Button site!!!
Take a wild guess on how many I’ve found there to date? 😂
Another good video!
Thank you! 😊
im getting a little closer i found a 1857 Flying Eagle today and a silver Baby spoon yesterday ..Happy Hunting
That’s awesome! I love silverware, and I’ve only ever found 3 silver spoons - I gave one of them to a permission owner (only one found there) because the initials inscribed matched those of the people who lived there 100 years ago. They’re very into the history of their home, so they were thrilled! 😊
@@StefDigs that's awesome of you. Well my first silver spoon was on February 10th this year. Lol so 2 silver spoons a 1956 Rosie and now this 1857. This is going to be a Great Year.
@@williamstewart1378 yes it is! I’ve had a great start as well - 2024 is looking like it’s going to be a stellar year!
Still a great video Stef. Congrats on all the Buttons and the Copper. Take Care Stef. Looks like the Manticore is a great Machine.
Thank you! It really is - took a while for me to squeak out its capabilities over my Equinox, but now it’s all I swing!
Right on. I'm still getting used to the Equinox 700. So far I'm happy. I was using the Anfibo Multi had a little accident and pretty much broke it. They don't make them any more. The Detectors before I used Whites unfortunately the closed there doors. So I'm still looking for better Detectors. Also have the Legend this machine had pretty much frustrated me.
@@craziedigging4590 that 700 is your best bet with what you currently have - more than capable machine! I have a 900 and loved it, but the Manticore just tells me so much more about a target that it’s tough to put it down! I was finding stuff right away with it, but I didn’t fully understand it for several months to (close to) a year. So much to explore with that machine, but it’s been enjoyable to continue learning it - doesn’t feel like “work,” instead it’s a pleasure. Can’t say that about every new machine you learn, as you know!
So true thank you for taking time to answer. Best of luck out there. Looking forward to your next video.
@@craziedigging4590 any time! Thanks for watching! 😊
I loved all the buttons, especially the pewter one. What a shame you didn't find the rest of that shoe buckle frame but hopefully it'll turn up in the future. I'm really intrigued by the Manticore - it's too bad Minelab doesn't rent or loan them to participants at detecting events to try out for the day! (hint hint 😉) Take care Stef and thanks for another awesome video!! ❤
Thanks Elisabeth! I love that pewter button, too. I’ve found that design before but it was only maybe a third of the button - pretty disappointing, so I’m glad to have a complete(ish) one now. 😂 If I’m at BONE (or even if I’m not - can always ask Debbie), see if you can grab one for the day. 😉 I will gladly vouch for you. 😄
@@StefDigs You're amazing Stef - thank you! You might just turn me into a Minelab girl after all! ❤
@@elisabethcole2571 one of these days, I hope! 😆 I just like introducing people to the tools that I feel work best for what I do. For me, that’s Minelab, without question!
I am surprised you didn’t go back to your honey hole were you been getting all those copper s I haven’t got a lg cent in almost 2 years you are so lucky all I get is a ton of IHP and silver dimes
Oh, that is the honey hole, lol. I’ve got days that are more relic-heavy than others. Yes, very lucky to have that site! I’ve made more incredible finds out there since then! 😁
👍👍
Thanks for watching! 😊
That button may have had a thistle on it.
I wish it did! I have actually found a beautiful 1830s one piece button with a thistle on it - one of my favorites! That one ended up being plain, though.
awesome finds. How do you clean that old coin to make it a bit legible? I know you are not supposed to clean them, but can you somehow make it more legible without losing value?
Thank you! You can’t really make dug coppers more legible without affecting the value in some way - I basically treat them as relics and clean them for my own enjoyment. In my last video I discussed electrolysis on a couple of crusty coppers and it worked pretty well! Generally though I’ll just let them dry out for a couple of days and pop the loose dirt and crud off with a toothpick.
Stef I have been using the Manticore for about a month and I'm having trouble finding out the pin point location on the Equinox 800 it was easy. Can you please help me.
Sure! It takes a little bit to get used to how the shaft is situated on the Manticore versus the Equinox. On the Equinox, the end of the shaft was directly in the center of the coil. On the Manticore, the center of the coil is situated directly in front of where the shaft ends on the coil. You’re still pinpointing with the center of the coil on both machines, but your eyes could be throwing you off compared to what you are used to!
@@StefDigs Thank you so very much!! And keep the great videos coming I love watching them and dreaming about the amazing things you find.
@@MetalDetecting1974 you’re welcome! Haha, I do live in a great area for digging! 😄
Hey Stef I was wondering what being a detexpert consists of as someone in the hobby?
Hi there! I attend events in my general area when I’m needed so that I can assist at the tent, make content using the latest Minelab machines and accessories (in one case I even assisted with a product release for the Pro-Find 40 - I got to release a video before Minelab’s RUclips channel), and I’m a resource for anybody who has questions or needs guidance with their gear. My goal is to help everybody who swings a Minelab have a better experience in the field. 🤘🏻
@StefDigs thank you for the info. Unfortunately at least in my area I don't know about events as it's almost the middle of no where. With this information I might consider signing up for the program however.
@@MetaldetectNE right on! 🤘🏻

Haha, awesome! Thanks for watching! 😊
I recently just discovered on the Legend running Beach mode with the special filters for black sand in other words it’s made to cut through the hardest Black sand I went on a long drive 4 ,5 hour it’s a great permission it a 1790 church with a ton of Native American stuff in the field it’s not real large 100 acres and 2 foot ball field s of grass about as wide as a football field huge parking lot in which I can guarantee you it covered around hundred coins and civil war relics confederate soldiers were here found a pistol and a $200 dollar inf button and a very rare saddle shield it was a geographic engineer corpse that made it so valuable, and made out of brass shape and CSI written on it and old very old English. cursive writing. But this permission is going the hardest I’ve ever been through and I’ve been to a lot of places it’s just a blanket of iron. It’s just everywhere. There’s also a cemetery there too. I try not to go too close 1520 feet away but I’m sure there’s a lot of good stuff right next to the cemetery also, I did very well I ran the beach I end up six head pennies got a really nice beautiful red 1866 condition and I got a old barber 1900 sitting right everything was right right by these two big trees right on the trees in the front got a lot of American stuff like that but yeah, it was great and running the beach mode and included area. I got a Roosevelt within minutes, so yeah, be careful
Nice, glad you’re enjoying your machine! Manticore is my go-to, as are Minelab detectors in general, of course. 😉 In my opinion, the Manticore is the best machine on the market right now, although I have heard the D2 is a great high-end machine as well. Sounds like you’ve got a really hot site there - so much of the success of detecting has 80% to do with location and 20% to do with your machine! Keep running what’s comfortable for you and that site will stay lit up for a while! 😊
@@StefDigs if you really like Manticore then you would like the Legend the same only difference is maybe a inch in depth but Nokia is coming out with a super deep boast mode she be any time now and once that comes out I think the legend will be top dog don’t forget I found almost 200 old coins with it last year and I am already at 8 silver coins now and 6 IHP lol
@@ChrissyEis that’s awesome, I’m happy for you! I am sponsored by Minelab however so I won’t be using a Legend, but I’m genuinely thrilled it’s working out well for you! Keep crushing it out there! 😊
@@StefDigs thank you
