Part of what makes a Wrangler a Wrangler, is being able to take the top off. Today in the Quadratec Academy, we'll show you how to remove the hardtop from a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. Of course the soft top is easy to put up and down, but even if your Jeep has a hardtop, taking it off is easy.
That cart is the real hero of the story.
The freedom panels are so much lighter on the JL!

How about a video on re-installing your hardtop (properly) with the Jeep tool kit? I doubt that little wrench in there is a torque wrench of any kind (and I'd like the bolts to be properly tightened as I imagine the manual specifies).

Only thing about Texas is you take it off on a sunny day and no rain in the forecast and then the next day it rains hard. Thats Texas weather here

I replaced all the interior bolts with thumb screw bolts, so much easier than a ratchet

My window hinge covers, seen at the 5:02 mark... always pop off when storing my top on a cart... Any suggestions or better replacements?
How do you take out the wiring harness from that compartment when you are trying to reconnect it? I’m having a problem with that? Anyone have a clue?

What if I have a hard top but I am a soft bottom? Will the bolts be inserted in the right hole? On anther note it is good that you can spray out the body so if its messy you can clean up and no one knows what you did😅

You know how much it weighs? And will the Harken 7803B Hoister Garage Storage 4-Point Lift System work for it? Safe to assume if a top hoist/storage solution works for the JK it'll work for the JL?
The new roof is MUCH lighter than the old ones.

We're not aware of any manufactures making a sport bar cover kit yet, but if they do, we'll most likely sell it.

I noticed a big weight difference with the freedom panels when I checked out a JL last week. Do you notice a difference with the overall weight of this whole rear piece?
No, the main body of the hardtop felt very similar in weight to the JK hardtop. We didn't actually weigh it however.

Hiya Rob, I've been watching a few of your vidos, but wondered about this. Smittybilt has a Safari roof with windows on the sides of the roof line. Do you know of th Smittybilt Safari Hardtop roof will fit the new 2018 JL?
The Safari Hardtop for the JK will not fit on the 2018 JL. I'm sure we will see some new tops in the near future.
I noticed that you placed the top on the storage cart. The website says that the cart is not compatible with the JLU. Was it unsteady on the existing cart? Or was that, perhaps, a modified version that isn't available yet?
There is a new cart for the JL Hardtop that will be released shortly. The existing cart designed for the JK will work in a pinch, but where the rear support bracket makes contact with the hardtop isn't necessarily ideal.

Do yall think me and my wife could lift it off and back on ? only thing is shes only 5'2 tall what do you think is it to heavy for a man and his wife to lift it ?
We have one and husband is away and my daughters 18 yr old boyfriend and I did it. Just a FYI if it hasn't been off since getting it your going to have to go from inside and push roof up to break seal. but super easy to do.

Stock lift / Stock tires - the Sport models come with 245/75R17 tires

Basically the same. The freedom panels are slightly different, but all the hardtop bolts are in exactly the same place.
No innovation. Should have made it segmented so one person can remove it. Plus you can no longer have the soft top underneath the hard top? FCA going backwards.
I'll take the soft top, because it's easier and I'm lazy.

Wow the new jeeps look ugly with the tops off. They couldn't just go with a round roll bar and just of welded a few tabs on it for the top and other things?

-quicker throttle response
-soft top without ‘cross bar’
-soft top no zippers
-quieter soft top
-body color roll bar
-flat horizontal dash
-lighter/aerodynamic tweaks = better MPG
-real metal interior detail
-real hardware (not faux bolts) interior
-larger cup holders
-air vents for cooling under hood
-more slant in windshield (think rock damage)
-doors stay opened
-cabin is slightly longer
-doors remove easier/faster
-telescopic adjusting steering wheel
-bigger storage tub
-stronger and lighter tailgate
-better hood latches
My JL cons
-auto start/stop (I know it can be disabled)
-the bumpers (front and back)
-front running lights on fender flare
-too much digital visual “noise” on dash
-rear camera (I know I can take it off - and I will)
-no hard drive in radio to store music
-looser steering
-the $ cost $
