    I cant tell you how pleased i am with this bike. I will be using my one for long distance touring abroad, it’s the best bike I’ve ever ridden, i cant really fault it except for the small footprint of the side stand, easily sorted though. I also think if you are an existing GSA rider you will have no problem with its size, in fact much more nimble.
    A very enjoyable video, kind regards.

      Lovely character to it (classic Moto Guzzi knock), but go for the 2nd revision which has more power (exhaust sensor in different location).

    I'm in awe of BMW's marketing department.
    They have convinced so many people that an extremely heavy and expensive bike is suitable for off-road. To make it even more perfect, most never go off road.
    I got caught up in the spell and bought a 1200GS when it came out in 2005. This was based on how impressed I was after hiring a 1100 GS about 7 years earlier. I've never experienced any vehicle soak up the pot holes on a terrible sand road. The 1200 felt like my car or any road bike over rutted or pot holed surfaces. (The performance of the 1100 was very lacklustr, 1200 wasnt good enough for me, but the 1300 is great from that perspective). Back then, it made slightly more sense to buy a GS as the market was dominated by sports bikes, and I couldn't tolerate the sport riding position. The price was also far more reasonable in 2005 and it wasn't so tech laden.
    Today, it makes no sense to me as to why you would want such a big, heavy, expensive, and complex bike. If you own the bike for a while, there are so many electronic features that can fail and will cost you an arm and a leg to repair.
    Real offroad bikes weigh 98kg, not 270kg.

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  2 месяца назад +1

      I agree - I kinda think the marketing message is 'ooo it can go off-road', but most people then just think 'oh it'll be good for on-road touring too', which is what most of these will do. It'd be an epic bike for long distance on-road touring. I just think the off-road stuff will be best left in the marketing material

    • @TacticalHamsterDance
      @TacticalHamsterDance 2 месяца назад +2

      Overwhelming majority of people use their bikes as road vehicles, and they're the light (and slightly cheaper) ones there, just compare it to e.g. BMW's RT - a mountain of plastic that weighs good 50 kg more. Nothing against a RT but maybe some people want to feel like they're riding a bike. Even if they don't want to feel it too much.
      For off-roading, I don't know what the situation is in England and other countries but in Europe, unless you ride in enclosed areas (or illegally), you're stuck with (relatively) wide and tame roads that certain don't require an enduro such as EXC. Bikes like GS do quite well on those. Also, you may need to travel for quite a distance on tarmac to get there, where these bikes shine (especially if you compare them to enduros).
      As for the electronics, the bikes are able to work with let's say BT or CC broken - and they work the same as bikes that don't have BT or CC. The only crucial one is ECU but thanks to emission standards, ECUs are in every bike.
      Overall, if you put marketing aside, I say people buying adventure bikes are buying the right bike for their needs. The only thing is, yes, they are expensive to buy and maintain but maybe some of them value the functionality more than the money.

      Had three GSs, including a 1250 GSA, moved to Ducati and not going back. The GSA is too ugly, too noisy, too heavy, too tall and it’s still got a tractor gearbox, wouldn’t dream of riding off road on one.

    • @michielvandepol6765
      @michielvandepol6765 Месяц назад +1

      @IanTed I'm not a fan of BMW as a company (au contraire...it's a horrible company). But the GS and GSA are great bikes for long distance touring and going on where the asphalt stops. It's definitely not an off-road bike by any means but it will not stop you from being able to continue your route over bumpy gravel roads either.
      I have been riding 1200/1250's for many years. Because of the idiotic, lack of customer service behaviour of BMW I have considered switching to a Multistrada V4 Rally. However, the Ducati is not as relaxed to drive as the 1250 is. It doesn't really like going under 3000 rpm and it's really far from fuel efficient (to say the least.....). The Multistrada is a most beautiful bike but for long tour vacations with an occasional gravel road I would take the GSA any day of the week. Not to mention the Ducati is really heavily overpriced. Spec it up and you will pay much more than for the GSA.

    Tim, I’ve gone from a 1200 GSA, to an Africa Twin then a KTM 890 Adventure and now a Husky 701. I’ve found that the decreasing bulk and weight to be a revelation. Less protection and comfort for sure but, for my mix of riding plus the potential for green lanes, ideal. A more basic experience but with excellent tech. I think, as you say, less is becoming more for a lot of people plus over £20k for a toy isn’t exactly affordable for many these days. Still fancy a ride on one……..

  • @inthewind773
    @inthewind773 2 месяца назад +5

    Yup, "for a bike" it is expensive... but compare it to other models in the premium end of the market. With all the packages and ASA it's about 26K Euro here in Germany. The Multistrada Rally is 27K, the Tiger 1200 Rally explorer is 23K, heck even the Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT is 21K. No idea what the 1390 Super Adventure S will cost as of this comment, but I'm betting it's gonna be over the 22K they want for Super Duke Evo. I feel sorry for you fellas in the UK with your crazy insurance costs, that's going to be a deciding factor for many.
    I have a late model 1200 Adventure that I love, but I'm tempted to trade it in for one of these... but only once at least a year has passed so someone else can swallow the depreciation. Traditionally these bikes hold their value extremely well year after year. Do I need it? Hell no, but if you regularly knock out 10 hour riding days there is no better place to be.

      In fact I think I'll hold to my 1300GS and my 1250GSA that you know. At least until there are more aftermarket parts available.

      @ Hi buddy, great to hear from you…interesting that you prefer the normal GS and also the 1250GSA…what do you not like about the 1300 adventure? We haven’t seen the boxes in the UK yet - are they not as good as the 1250 versions….?

    • @MrFlowerfred
      @MrFlowerfred 2 месяца назад

      @@JoDiamond6363 I've seen the luggage in the UK at my local dealership. Really flimsy, almost ridiculous. The tank is so wide that you ride with your legs too far apart. And the phone cubby is smaller than the GS so it doesn't hold my phone, the GS does. The 1300GS is just a blast to ride and my 1250GSA is much more comfortable and better all round very long distance. The 1300GSA seems like a compromise between the two that doesn't do anything better really. I just can't see a reason to choose it over either tbh.

    This motorcycle will tempt those of us who tour the more isolated parts of North America, where the distances between petrol (gas) stations can induce range anxiety. It is comforting to know that my R1200RT can be ridden over 200 miles before I start worrying where the next gas station is. Before anyone says "I am ready for a break at 150 miles", so am I, but it has happened more than once where a gas station is closed, or out of fuel.
    My KTM 1290 SAS struggles to get 200 miles on a single tank. Finding a gas station becomes a priority when the trip computer reads 150 miles. The price you pay for performance and a smile on your face.

    The looks are growing on me, so I don't have the urge to vomit. The engine, however, sounds asthmatic and may need an inhaler.

    You will only know the success of the bike after a year of sales. If it sells less than the old 1250 GSA it’s a fail. I have a 1250 GSA and won’t be buying a new one. Actually looking at another brand . Sad

    There's nothing worse than spending £23000 of your hard-earned money on a motorcycle that sounds like a tractor when it runs - like buying a luxury bathtub with a lawnmower engine. To top it off, dealing with the arrogant and dismissive sales staff at some BMW dealerships only adds insult to injury. It’s enough to make you question the entire experience.
    Keep it simple smaller, Lighter, and cheaper motorcycle 🏍

      @MrBiggles 2 месяца назад +2

      That doesn’t make any sense. How can it ‘look’ pointless? Do you mean it won’t be used to its full potential by most people? If so then you’re probably right but then you could say the same about most expensive bikes. If someone likes it then that’s up to them and beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.
