    John there is something that is not mentioned here and it is a SOLUTION to completely preserve your routing:
    To preserve your A-B or L-R stereo routings you have to set track IN and OUT properly!! If your track IN is set to ALL, then everything is mixed down to a mono sounding stereo file, and you will lose your routing when the loop plays back. Although if you have it on MIC/INST, then it will be true stereo recorded left and right. The track OUT have to be set to ALL. Don’t make the same mistake I did 🤣! This is not in the manual, but it is mentioned in the Parameter Guide. Make sure you know, this will not fix the loops you already recorded. You have to re-record them the right way!

      I'm hoping this means if put the track IN as INST IN and OUT as ALL, i also get a stereo signal that gets routed properly. My setup is Guitar in IN A and Bass in B, I wish I can have them on both tracks in their own amp

    Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but when you mess with the channel routing it can double the volume of your track. For example if you set the track 1 output to only be channel A, then it seems to double the input volume (probably because of the way it sums it). My solution has been to just halve the volume for any tracks I do this with

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 года назад +1

      Yes this can happen cause you are sending signals to now mono outs and the summing up is greater. Great tip 👍🏼

Been looking for a long time now for a clear explanation of the outputs… was about to go buy a much more expensive looper to be able to split 2 channels/tracks into 2 different outputs that goes inside my interface to be able to mix them separately for live gigs. Got a spd one kick on one side and my electric guitar on the other (that goes inside my computer)…. Anyways you saved me a lot of money so thank you again! And a new subscriber here 🔥🙏

      Technically yes.. however you will have to separate the mic and instrument output from the input button.
      Pan the mic one way and the instrument the other. Then you can grab the audio out of one side and the other. Downside is it’s all mono.

    I wanted to upgrade to the RC-500 from my Boss VE-8 (Which has an integrated looper just as a feature)... but the routing settings on the VE-8 just make more sense to me... I can select where the voice and where the guitar is coming out... Why can't the Boss RC-500 remember what's voice and what's guitar for every track? So for example voice is always coming out from Output A and Guitar always from Output B no matter which track is playing.... You always need to have Voice and Guitar seperated live, what are they thinking? This is bullshit, I'm glad I didn't buy it....

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 года назад +1

      The routing can be set for the whole system if you want to for the inputs.
      Have a look at the parameter guide on page 14 and that is setting it for the whole system. static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RC-500_Parameter_eng01_W.pdf
      But the output routing of the loops is per memory.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi, thank you for your work. I have the following problem with the outputs. If I set A as the output for the instrument and B as the output for the rhythm, then in channel A I hear only instrument (which is ok), but in channel B I hear both, instrument and rhythm - I would expect that there should be just the rhythm in B. Any advice? Thank you

    • @MrElm5150
      @MrElm5150 Год назад

      I may have just realized the answer to that. I was having a similar issue with my guitar coming out of the output with the loop track after I assigned loops to Out-B and Instrument to Out-A. In track "Edit" I changed the Inputs as well to segregate I/O A from I/O B. What I DIDN'T do was assign the Input routing TO the Outputs by using the menu under the INPUT button. The Rhythm Output assignments are done from under the same INPUT menu, and not from the input parameters found in the track EDIT menus. It's a little confusing and now I'm not really sure what the Input settings in the track edits are for exactly. 🤷‍♂

    • @MrElm5150
      @MrElm5150 Год назад

      So, I just tested that my guitar no longer comes out of the B output unless I switch it using the INPUT menu. I'm assuming the Input selections in the Track EDIT are to accept inputs for taking in loop recordings and NOT for output routing.

    Hi John Paul ! Thank you so much for this video !
    This is great information. I was desperately looking for a solution to separate guitar and voice loops. Now I have a solution.
    I am definitely considering buying the RC-500.
    I was actually trying to find the best option for GUITAR AND VOICE LOOPING (+ having the option to add some vocal effects like delay, reverb, and harmonies).
    So I was hesitating between getting the BOSS VE-500 alongside the RC-500 ; or go a different way with TC Helicon, and get a Voice Live 3 Extreme (and get all I need in one pedal).
    Or I could also keep the VE-500, and get a bigger looper, like the RC-600, and this way, I can have an ouput for the guitar, and stereo outputs for the voice.
    Any hints on the best configuration would be highly appreciated !
    I have been looking for months, and can't decide what's best. ; )
    Thanks in advance !

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Год назад +1

      Hey glad it’s helpful.
      If you are used to the VE-500 then it’s very similar to the TC-Helicon but with the advantage of midi, so you can sync the effects to the timing of the loops. Then it’s just a case of what looper.
      The RC-600 is a monster but the opportunities with what you can do are a lot more than an RC-500. However, to be devil’s advocate, if you only ever need a max of 2 loops and are using the VE-500 for inputs and effects and sending that to the looper, then the RC-500 is all you need (maybe with an external pedal for more buttons).
      Here’s my setup.. just mentally replace the Voicelive Play Acoustic for your VE-500: ruclips.net/video/VE9vLqGX_Gs/видео.html

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK Thank you for your kind response and explanations !
      Yes, I think the rC-500 is enough for my needs in terms of looping (and smaller).
      my only concern with this routing is losing the "stereo output".
      If I use 2 pedals, the RC-500 alongside the VE-500, could I do my setup like this :
      - For the MIC : enter in the Looper first, then mono output (on one of the tracks), to go into the VE-500, and from there, output in stereo to the mix table.
      - For the GUITAR (doing the opposite) : enter first in the vocal effects pedal (VE-500), output in mono to enter the Looper (RC-500), and from there, output to the Guitar Amp.
      In terms of sequence, would that work?
      Thank you agin so so much for your help and advices ! Cheers from Switzerland ;-)

    Hey JP :) do you know of anyway to keep a stereo left right signal for the guitar, but also isolating the mic out to be on a seperate channel? So far it seems impossible, cause the guitar needs to be on both output channels for it to be stereo (cause I’m using stereo delay before going into the looper). Thanks!

      hey 👋
      so this is the limitation of the RC-500. it has 2 outs. the left and the right. that’s it.
      so you can send the stereo out and the mic out to any of the two.. but you are asking for it to be a 3 channel (or more) looper. it’s simply not possible. Next one that can do that from Boss is the RC-600 / RC505mkii

      So.. follow me closely, there are 3 things you need to change.
      The inputs, the outputs of those inputs and the outputs of the loops.
      1) select input button underneath the mic level
      2) change MIC IN to OUT-A
      3) change INST IN to OUT-B
      4)EXIT
      5) Click track 1 edit
      6) Scroll across until you see T1 INPUT and Change this to MIC IN
      7) Stay on the same menu and scroll across one more to T1 OUTPUT and put this to OUT-A
      8) Press the Track 2 edit button
      9) you should be (if you didn’t click exit between steps 7&8) on T2 OUTPUT, Change this to OUT-B
      10) Scroll BACK one to T2 INPUT and change this to INST IN
      EXIT AND WRITE THE THE MEMORY.
      You should now have the mic and the mic loops only coming to Output A and the guitar and guitar loops coming to Output B.
      Enjoy. 👍🏼 😊

      Hello. Yes, this is a common complaint about the RC 500.
      The one thing that I have found, is that the Noise Suppressor (NS) is switched on by default.
      This can have quite an effect on the volume coming in, and I have turned mine off.
      Click the INPUT button, scroll to MIC IN NS, and play around with this setting.
      Be aware, this only really affects the recorded loop, not the natural input.
      I use a vocal processor, the boost the signal beforehand (TC-Helicon Voicelive Play Acoustic) but your solution is a good answer.
      The advantage of this is you can do dual mono looping.

    Hey there JP, I have an interesting question for you. I'm currently using a Pigtronix Infinity for looping, which in addition to its regular outputs, has an aux out which sends just the audio of looped parts. With ABANDONS I do a lot of live looping, and use the aux out to send the looped parts to an amp which sits behind our drummer. This allows him to clearly hear the loops, without having any of my live playing muddying it up, as his amp only plays the loops from the aux out on the Infinity, which doesn't include my live signal. I watched your video but it's unclear whether I can accomplish this with the RC-500 routing options. Is there a way to send just the loops to output B, and have output A contain both the loops and my live signal?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Год назад

      Hi. Ooh that’s interesting.
      So in short, yes. Output A would be for the main PA and output B would be for your drummer.
      You would send the loops to both output A&B (as it is on default) and then send just what you need for the main PA to output A only.
      This can be done with the inputs, loops & rhythm (although the drummer might not want to be replaced with a rhythm track 😂) but good for percussive stuff.

      So sort of, yes.
      Press MENU and scroll to OUTPUT MODE. The RC-10r has 2 options. One is the default of STEREO and the other is A:Loop and B:Rhythm. So if you set it to this, connect your guitar to input and output A and your bass to input and output B then this should be okay.
      The only downside is I think the bass, when looped will come out of A.

    Hey JP , hope your well my friend ! I'm running in dual mono just like your video showed .. A vocals - slot 1 on mixer .. B guitar - slot 2 on mixer .. for some reason when I use the rythym it's coming out A and going into vocals and it's picking up the reverb for my vocal setting on the mixer ... How do I route the rythym to B?

    I recorded a drum sequence totalling 32 measures into track one and saved it on memory one. I played it back and recorded a chord sequence against the drums on track two. I want the loop of guitar and drums to play back in timing together. What do I do?
    Also I note (when using microphone) the microphone level remains too low even when I raise the input mic level to maximum. Is this because my microphone is the wrong output sensitivity and or the boss RC 500 has a different input sensitivity to my microphone?

      Hi 👋
      So if you have a 32 measure on track - and a chord sequence on track 2, they should play back together fine. You could change one of the buttons so they stop and start together. 👍🏻
      Also regarding the Mic (and instrument) input there is a compressor and NS filter on the input settings that is ON by default. You can turn these off in the input settings and this might be the reason. The Mic input of the RC-500 has been noted as low by a few people.

    Hey JP ! Something I’ve having a prob with is my volume levels .. my chain goes mic - tc play acoustic - boss RC 500 - mackie mix 12 - 2 channel single speaker .. ..so the tc , boss rc 500 and mixer all have seperate gain levels for my dynamic mic .. where do I set the gain level ?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 года назад

      Hello mate. sorry I've only just seen this.. slipped through the net. I would set my initial levels for my vocals and insurgents at the voicelive play acoustic and then set the loops level on the RC-500 around 90. That way, your vocals and guitar will always cut through and the loops are never over powering.

    Thanks for the video. I have a clean guitar track laid down on track one and I want to laid down a distorted guitar on track 2 while listening to the clean track for timing. But when I do that and listen to the play back, both tracks come out distorted. What setting should I use for input/output to correct the issue? thx

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 года назад

      Make sure the clean track isn’t coming in too hot. Click the input button under the mic knob. Check the input volumes are not too high if the input is distorting then that might be the problem. There is also a noise suppressor (NS) on all inputs set to 50 as standard. Have a play with this also to make sure that isn’t the reason it’s changing the sound. Hope that helps.

      Yes Mike.
      You just need to check the stop pedal.
      Go into memory > Ctl > pedal 2 and it should already be on Cur Stop (Clear) which will clear the currently track but leave the other track alone. If not, change it back to that. But that is the default.

      If it’s the last thing you recorded then you can undo/redo. If it’s on a separate track then you can turn that track on or off. 👍🏻

    Good afternoon. Can you help me? I want to make sure the RS-10r Looper can be paired with the BOSS-RC500 Looper? Synchronize via MIDI. Make a single whole out of them. Use the RS-10p as a drum machine. I know the RC-500 has very flexible settings. You can assign any button to any function. Does the RS-10r have this capability? I didn't find any information on the internet, oddly enough.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 года назад +1

      Yes, you can do this. the RC-10r can become the main looper and dictate the bpm and beat whilst the RC-500 follows the tempo and syncs to it. The rhythm section of the RC-500 is good and of course the quality is 32-bit but there are good sections on the the RC-10r. Have a look at the manuals for both on Boss'website and look under pairing. you just use the midi (would need the right cables) and you can do it.

    Hello :) Is it possible to record with drums? I do not register drums in the wav file ... Regards Sielek :)

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 года назад +1

      Are you looking to capture the kit from the Rhyrhm section? The wave file is your instrument or mic from the looper.
      If you want the Rhyrhm section as a wav file, you would have to record it from the looper into a recorder or DAW and then save that. Hope that makes sense?

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK The drums can be in a loop :) There is an option in the settings. Input - Rhytm LOOP. Then they record while playing :) They are in the vaw file :)

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 года назад +1

      Ahh. Okay. In the Parameter guide ‘Rhythm - Loop is described like this -
      ‘With the “LOOP” setting, RC-500 drum sounds played by note messages from an external MIDI device can be output to a track and recorded.’
      So I read that as it would send the same ‘pattern’ out as midi for an external drum machine to play it.

    When live looping backing tracks on the fly and the pedal is on the floor this is of no use. Might as well just buy backing tracks. This pedal is extremely limited when it comes to verse and chorus. And the drum menu access is so overcomplicated when live. Bobbing up and down all the time. I bought this and found that the old Rc-30 is a much more user friendly pedal live.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 года назад

      Interesting. It totally depends on how you define “user friendly” Matt.
      I agree for just plugging in and looping, it’s not the easiest and it seems to me that they tried to cram as MUCH as possible into it, which means LOTS more setup time at home before any gig.. but in terms of versatility, it wipes the floor with any of the RC-Floor pedal range that’s come before it. (Not including the 202 or 505).
      My only gripes are - 1) loss of the USB as an audio interface 2) the volume and noise suppression on the inputs. 🤷🏻‍♂️ why , and 3) the pedal can sometimes be a bit too clever for its boots if you are ever so slightly out it thinks you need an extra bar. This can be responded with either dictating the bars or free mode or really nailing your timing.

    • @matthawkins8197
      @matthawkins8197 3 года назад +1

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK Actually the 300 is still the flagship for live versatility. I can plug in my guitar bass and drumkit and go out to a mixer for vocals. The only thing is it's too big for the gig bag potability. I love the drum sounds in the 500, but what a pain for live stuff. I thought at first it would mean not carrying a drum kit, but I'm back to that. There is the wow factor too, but that is mostly just to get a reaction from other musos...look and he plays drums. The Joyo looper with 40 beats is so much more simple live. Just dial it up on the style and play.
