I loved the dreamy synth parts, it sounded like it was lifted straight from the 80's, actually reminded me of Til Tuesday's Voices Carry....the "happy ending" as you were finalizing your thoughts was completely innocent, until you shone light on it Mike, I had to laugh when you did though 😄....I thought you'd heard most of Tears earlier works, one of my favorites was Sowing The Seeds Of Love, awesome song, real Sgt Peppers like

About the lyrics(my own interpretation), well
we are being seen as many things both good and bad into one body.
Now, the "She's the mother that turns back father time", i don't really know but i am thinking about the fact that a woman's character is also determined by the little girl - father relationship in childhood and she might use it in raising her own children, or in some cases, not and learning to not do the same mistakes. Or something like that if it makes sense...
About gender differences in work fields, i think little by little women are starting to be noticed and the gap is starting to shorten but in the family life, you can find the same ideology as 50 years ago in many houses. It's a pity this still happens and women are still expected to keep everything together and in order and to do it with a smile...cos it's a woman's job...

Escher is the artist you are thinking of. Also it pays homage to the movie "Metropolis" from the nineteen twenties.

Curt was actually speaking more to the United States, as he has lived in the U.S. for about 30 years now. :) As for the songwriting, I believe it was Curt who wrote this song, along with their touring guitarist/producer Charlton Pettus (usually, Roland Orzabal writes their lyrics, for context).

Once again, another brilliant Tears For Fears reaction, thank you for the name check, I presume it was me. Break The Man is the first Tears For Fears song that Roland doesn't have a writing credit on. I also think Break The Man borrows a lot musically from Everybody Wants To Rule The World, it has a similar drum beat. If you're checking out more from this album, My Demons, Rivers Of Mercy and my favourite track Long Long Long Time are excellent. If you're delving into the back catalogue, Sowing The Seeds Of Love is their masterpiece, closely followed by Woman In Chains. If you are looking for that special album track that didn't make it to single, Badman's Song takes the listener to church, it has gospel, soul and funk. Likewise, The Working Hour is an awesome album track. My favourite TFF song is Advice For The Young At Heart, it's similar to Break The Man in that it is a lovely pop song, but what wins it for me is that it has the best line in any song ever, and that is, "Soon we will be older, when we gonna make it work" As a 63 year old man I remember thinking back in my youth that I had time on my side, I know now, time is never on our side, if we're going to make the world a better place, we have to start now, soon we will be older, when we gonna make it work? Another great older song is Head Over Heels, which opens with a lovely piano, the opening piano has been my ring tone for years. I'd love you to react to any of the songs I've mentioned. Woman in Chains is a duet with the remarkable voice of Oleta Adams, and it is about women being abused, or more to the point, Roland's father abussing his mother. My choice would be Advice For The Young At Heart, but I will listen to any of your reactions on Tears For Fears. Thanks again.

Just had a thought about the line "She's the mother who turns back father time" I may be way off here, but in my opinion, a lot of women look better as they age, not only do they become more confident, but a lot of them age really well, as if they are holding back father time, just a thought, I might be way off. Keep up the good work. Can you react to Long Long Long Time please. It is sandwiched between The Tipping Point and Break The Man on the album, and on the first few listens I didn't realise how good the song is. It is my current favourite track on the album.

I do think we need a bit more female influence in higher places, and we’re going in that direction now, but I hope we get some really wise females coming forward to take us where we need to be. I think the song has a great sound, and they did a fantastic job on the video, very modernistic. On a different note, I’d love to hear what you think of Amythyst Kiah’s cover of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” or a new cover of “Dark Side” from the movie Eddie and the Cruisers by Corey Taylor. Thanks again Mike!
