Ashley, if you're in that part of Manhattan again, check out the 2 plant stalls at the Union Square Greenmarket, especially right when they open on Saturday mornings. They have a great selection of affordable plants, both common and rare. Spring-Fall only, I think.
My gosh I wish all plants in the big box stores were that healthy. Must be the department store type building and maybe some people that know what they are doing? What an eye treat you had Ashley.
Welcome to NY. Looks like you were at the 23rd St HD. You can find some pretty good plants there. I have found some good ones that were on the clearance racks. Maybe some damaged leaves etc but the roots were good. Those are usually the ones I flock too if I’m on a budget. You can always grow new leaves and get a healthy good looking plant and you paid half the price
This is a great home Depot for plants. Mine here in Michigan had no sales and poor quality of plants. So I went to Lowe's today and bought a beautiful Alocasia and syngouium for 19.99. I have to restrain myself from going to the big box stores til spring 🌼
Last few weeks haven’t been super exciting at my local big box stores. I just recently became a plant mom so I’m wondering if that’s usually the case in the fall and it picks back up in spring?
Ashley I have a question for you. I have a ring of fire in a self watering pot for some reason it’s putting leaves down through the drainage holes they were all white so I thought they were roots but they are definitely leaves it’s not a prop plant so I don’t understand why it’s doing this. Any thoughts?
It's probably a baby plant that never made it to the top of the soil. Because it has never seen daylight it has white leaves. Take it out, put it in it's own little pot and put it in indirect light. Watch it grow!
You're paying for the pots which may not be suitable for your home decor. You can find the same plants, only smaller, without the fancy pot in there too. That Home Depot has the nicest display and in number than ANY of the four stores 50-60 miles north of NYC where I shop. (Lowes is no better.) Even the plants look healthier. If plants had a version of the ASPCA some of my stores would be in trouble. I always try to buy at least one sad looking or dying plant from the discounted section just to test my sunlight and watering amounts, my fertilizer measurements and repotting skills. I'm 50/50 on rehabilitating houseplants and 70/30 on succulents. Total failure at propagating any of them so far. I keep the plant stickers with names to record the deaths in a book and keep a list on my phone so not to buy a duplicate failure. I put the rehab's stickers on those tab inserts.
That is one of the nicest Home Depot’s I’ve seen
It was great!
Thank you for this New York City plant trip❣️❣️
I love your passion for plants. I get the same as you. Lots of fun...happy shopping....MINDY

Wow! Very nice Home Depot. The ones we have in Dallas are usually low stocked and have almost dead 💀 plants 🪴 😢

The best!
Such a weird home depot! I love it 😆
Me too!!
I would have bought the first euphorbias.
At 16:10 I think I saw a huge Philodendron Goeldii.
16:10 Looks like Schefflera Amate
Aldi had a 10 inch BOP for $13
if you go to union sq, theres plant vendors at the farmers market that have even lower prices haha
That’s a great tip! I’ll have to check it out.

Yes, fall is usually a slower time for plant selection but the spring is when it really ramps up!
Next time, go to Union Square. Rare and good prices.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to check it out!
Our local home depot has crappy plants..they never look vibrant😢😢

It's awesome you're so dedicated to rescuing plants!
If you take a plane home. Why don't you pack the plants to your home.
I didn’t have any extra room unfortunately’!
I live in NYC. Which Home Depot is at? I have been to Home Depot in Brooklyn and Staten Island NY, the selection is a shame.
Manhattan 🪴
Do have a Facebook account?? Because I saw ur videos on there with a different name ??
I do! There are a few fake ones on there though. Mine is the one with a pic of my with my fiddle leaf fig and a jade plant. 🪴

Flatiron-23rd St. and it’s hit or miss. It’s not always well stocked and like other locations a lot of the plants are not taken care of.
Manhattan!
