They appear to be pretty well done. I would recommend detailing the engine bays or at the very least pressure washing them. You should consider employing a finish carpenter properly to trim out the wood work. Everything looks 95% there but you fell 5 yards short of the goal line on the fine details.

In my home country, G wagon was a very common work vehicle and totally spartan unlike the G wagon in the states. We didn't even have AC or radio in them

I used one of these rigs in Afghanistan for a bit, great 4x4, but I have a 66 D200 225 NP435 that I paid 600 bucks for I put in a 30 gal tank in the bed and I'm good for about 300 miles. plus its emp proof! Id love a gwagon but man even 14K sounds like a lot of money to me.....

Actually the first "G-Wagon" which is shown is not a Mercedes G Wagon, it is a Peugeot P4 (which has the same chassis and the same engine).
I guess we are in middle east are blessed to be able to buy a 2016 Land cruiser 70 with 4.2 inline 6 diesel , 5 speed manual , locking hubs , front and rear locking diff , snorkel , dual fuel tank for 35,000$ brand new from the show room

I watch many of your videos, but why show newer G Wagon in thumbnail titled "costs less that used honda" thats what made me click this video. These tactics make you lose followers but get views for sure.
if you paint one of the military ones it would look like that and still cost less than a used accord
the G-wagon's main body shape was really unchanged since it's creation in the 70's, so you could easily mistake an older one for newer
New Accords only come close to $38K fully loaded.

Agree, when I saw the thumbnail I thought for a split second that Mercedes was selling a bare bones, stripped down G Wagon for an affordable price. To be accurate the thumbnail should reflect the $15k military rust bucket.
Ex Dutch military were never called Mercedes. All G wagons are built in Austria by Steyr and sold as Steyr-Puch or Peugeot. You can see the grille and lots of details are different. The red car was Swedish, according to the yellow decal inside.

I love those old Toyota land cruisers, I want one for a project vehicle while I daily my 2014 mid travel Tacoma off-road. Get one of those cheap and buy a sports car daily

Now if we're arguing off road prowess, I've got an 00 dakota that I'm into about $6k. 4wd, rear lsd, 4:56 gears. And that thing will go anywhere I've wanted to take it. And I saved $9k!

I drive a Japanese 1996 Toyota 90 Series 4cyl. 3L, turbo diesel and I like it a lot. Only 125 ponies and 226 lbs of grunt and a 5000 lb tow package, but it's fine for what I do.

Funny, we had a Mastodon G-Wagon join our local AZ Land Cruiser group back in May for one of our monthly off-road treks. Cosmetically it looked pretty good. I gave thumbs up to the period correct plaid upholstery. About 3/4 of the way into the trip it lost either the slave or master clutch cylinder. I guess the owner made it home after we setup camp. As we were all in 80 series, with one converted 40, none of us had extra fluid we could give the guy. Before we started, he was telling us how well the truck had been gone through before he received it. Kinda made me wonder after the failure, and looking under the hood, how well Mastodon really baselines these things. Failures do happen though. Oh, and BTW, of the 15 or so LCs, zero issues. :-)~
They scammed him and many more took deposits from many people and filed chapter 7 so no one got their money back and he has a new company in Alabama

@4:23 Now standard on all newer high end G Wagons-this older model Wagon has the ultra rare “German Shepard” option which allows the driver to hike the right rear wheel and mark it’s territory/parking spot at the local Whole Foods.
I wouldn't pay a dime of the asking price. Hoping to get a fj80 land cruiser
be aware the older ones need to be checked for body and frame rust, electrical issues, and parts availability issues

OM 314 engine is 3.758 ccm displacement, 4 cyl 4-stroke 2 ohv direct injection diesel rated at 80 or 85 mhp (depends), but could easily be tuned to 100 hp -

Yeah, but there is certain "niche" customer base that wants the no-frills version.....even if it's a 30 year old 240D powered one with 5,000-7000 hours worth of idling and whatever mileage it worked-up to. In Europe, you can buy a New G-Wagen or BMW version with the bullet-proof Pushrod Peugeot XD3T inter-cooled 2.5 Turbo diesel(made by BMW under license Agreement with Peugeot);that version pumping out around 110hp....good for around 10,000 hours with occasional oil changes,etc. Most of these UN/Military versions spend most the time idling at check-points,etc....compared to a regular passenger vehicle.

Companies like this, import these vehicles to the US. That means that they are rare in the US, so after they buy the vehicle, ship it, import it, they make a good profit off of the rarity. That's the price we pay in the US, if we want a foreign vehicle. That's why a Nissan Skyline goes for a huge premium in the US, compared to other countries.

We used to have an '86 g wagon as a shop truck and that thing was gutless. I mean 2nd gear up a hill gutless. 80 hp in something that heavy was not much. 5cyl turbo swap is an absolute must just to keep up with traffic.

+Harvey Smith maybe good 4x4 but he's right it's expensive. I think in the US you can find good vehicles cheaper. For a used 4X4 here i would find a used nissan patrol cheaper and better. Here...
I agree there are cheaper alternatives. My comment was in reply to calling it a piece of old crap. The G wagon has an extraordinary pedigree. It won the Paris Dakar rally on its first attempt using a standard vehicle. It has 3 diff locks fitted as standard. It is the first choice of many military's around the world. Doesn't sound so crap, eh?

You sure it has 3 diff lockers in every versions included this one (maybe said in the video but I don't understand all specific words in english). I thought the military version only had rear diff lock, so the first derived civilian version too. You sure?
There is bound to be an odd variant, but as far as I know, Gwagens are made with 3 lockers as standard, if you see one with only 2 levers or buttons for the lockers, you may find the central lock is activated by selecting low range. Any Gwagen experts please help out here.

Why do I get the feeling that if I went to Mexico & bought a 4WD EcoDiesel Ramcharger--Still made there after '93!--and re-register it here a Ram pick-up... as I've seen done... I'd beat what this guy offers almost 2-tons?
Owned one, figure at least $5k a year in maintenance and thats if nothing major breaks beyond the normal seals.
I was kinda more interested in hearing about the NAPCO Chevys/GMCs that were in the background, and the Suburban in the shop... And while I do appreciate the G-Wagons, I much prefer a 70 or 80 series Land Cruiser or Lexus LX450. I've had several people come up to me over the years and complement me on what a good job I did on grafting a Lexus grill onto my rig. :-)

Don Leamon My grandfather used to have a LX450. I'm a fan of old school Lexus, but it definitely didn't drive like a Lexus. It reminds me of a YJ Jeep without feeling like I'm driving tractor. I don't usually drive dedicated off-roaders.

One of the Geländewagen (@ 6:05) - an army original - has an old sticker with Danish text. Just the like ones I drove when I was in the army 36 years ago. This car is fun to drive off road. Could do as our 2nd family car.
The G-wagon at 2:56 (Plate 57 657) is ex-Danish Army. Auctioned off in July 2015. Looking at its service history, it is a car in terrible shape. Other that it's being totally eaten up by rust, absolutely everything has been worn out. Even the cabin haeter is leaking water! Unless this Company does a complete frame-off restoration and replaces more or less everything, don't buy vehicles like this.
Note: I have access to it's complete service history, if you were wondering.
