So excited for this. I love hearing about others money journeys and different budget takes. We all do it so different and taking little parts from different people is what I’ve found has worked best for us!
This is seriously so helpful! I'm loving the spreadsheet from Etsy and learning more & more using it over time. THANK YOU for helping provide the information on budgeting your business expenses. As an independent contractor it really helps with management and inspiration!
This was actually super helpful. I sometimes feel embarrassed that I don’t know anything and don’t have a burning interest in it either, but definitely want to be more proactive. This is giving me somewhere to begin. Thank you!
I love this! Also just want to throw out there for anyone newer to credit cards that it’s a good idea generally to keep your older cards open unless you have other long standing credit history, because your length of credit can impact your credit score quite a bit.
I made this mistake recently. I closed my student "starter" credit card and upgraded to my Chase card....and my near-perfect credit score plummeted. BUT it's still technically good--just not as good 😂 I'm building it back up, though. I lost the benefit of having a good 3 year history, but now I have a much higher credit limit and lower utilization. So you win some, you lose some.
Hi! The template info says it isnt compatible with excel but how come urs is on excel? how do i get mine to do that? Also, ur a lifesaver ty for all of ur helpful vids!!!:)
This video is a great reminder to get your financial advice from certified professionals! I’m a CPA and it’s so annoying when people take some crypto bros advice over mine that I studied very hard for. Love watching your money videos ❤️
Overall, what do you value more, paying off debt or saving? I know you've touched on this. For example, I just had a $1000 unexpected car repair, and I'm trying to build my savings. Do I sacrifice my savings and pay it all off or pay in increments and still save? Curious on your opinion!
As I've mentioned I don't feel very comfortable giving financial advice because everyone's situation is different! There's alot of factors like how much you have in savings etc.
I love these finance videos!! It’s so needed for young people to be more open about finances and share their knowledge with others! 🎉 Where do you get your budget template from? 😊
Anyone can budget on paper but following through is the most important thing. Also, a person should learn how to improve the next year to budget better.
Been wanting you to post an updated version of your 'how I manage my money' video and you really did. That's a win for me. Hehe. :D Can you post your financial regrets or money things you wish you knew in your early 20s? Just a video suggestion.
Hello Carter, Thanks for sharing your financial journey with us. Do you put all the required data in the transaction tracker at the bottom of the template? I know you mentioned you don't track every dollar anymore. I find it time consuming to list Income, debt, investment, and expenses in the tracker. Thanks
Hi Carter good morning happy Wednesday morning and I hope you having amazing day today and I loved your vlogs and you are amazing Supporter and I'm proud of you
Timing when to open a new CC is genius 👌🏾. I'll have try that instead of just randomly. I usually try to just request limit increases when I get the urge to apply for a new card. 🤭
Yes it is! Typically Matt and I map our year (and what we hope to do) and then time our credit cards around them. So last year I opened a new card when I had to pay tuition and also for renos! I've also heard people say open a credit card before planning a wedding/elopement which is smart!
RRSP reduces tax you pay now, but you will be taxed on all withdrawals based on your income at the time. RRSPs have to be converted to RRIF(registered retirement income funds) by the year you turn 71 I believe. They force you to take a percentage out, and you can take more if you want. If you don't have a pension and have high income now it's pretty good. I prefer to max out my TFSA for tax free withdrawal and not be forced to take it out with tax.
Just a small critique- watch your uptalking. Us hearing sensitive folks are hypersensitive to these patterns. FYI: you do have a zero based budget. It’s just assigned to broader categories versus more granular.
No problem. I didn’t want to offend, but I wanted to let you know. Reducing the uptalk will also help you sound sure of what you are saying. Hopefully, my Calmer earbuds that I bought help when I get them.
There are pros and cons to it- yes we have a lower interest rate but we bought our house in a peak time so it cost us more than it would now BUT now interest rates are higher! I'm definitely glad we bought when we did for the interest rate though- curious to see what it will be when it's time to renew in 4 years!
This is really helpful 😊. I never wanted a joint account with my partner but unfortunately for immigration purposes, since my husband is sponsoring me to become a Canadian PR, we kind of had to make one. But it’s okay we make it work😊 I also have my own separate account
Like I said I'm not a financial professional I can only speak from experience but I keep my oldest credit card open! Other than that I open/close 2 cards a year and it hasn't affected my score more than 1-2 points and it quickly goes back up!
A word of caution about credit cards, if you overpay your credit card bill on accident, on a credit card that isn’t directly part of your bank, it can take months to get that money back 😅 and it’s a lot of back and forth with the bank and your credit card, it’s happening to my husband (and it’s not a small amount 😅), So just be mentally present when paying your credit card 😅
@@CarterSullivan the problem is this was a lot of money 😅 and an accident, we thought it was a fraud at was It turns out it wasn’t but he overpaid when he wasn’t paying attention, it was more than his credit card limit Anyway it’s a mess because they blocked his credit card for a month so he can’t even use that money rn Just wanted to let people know to be aware
I’ve notice how you are comfortable now talking about what are not to do’s based on your experience. I hope you can create a video where you watch yourself creating the first video you upload vs the new video that shows how very confident you are now talking to the camera 🙂
PayPal has a great high yield savings account if anyone reading comments is looking for one. I think the rate is currently at 3.78% (not sure if it’s the same in Canada) 😊
So excited for this. I love hearing about others money journeys and different budget takes. We all do it so different and taking little parts from different people is what I’ve found has worked best for us!

Do you have a video going over your spreadsheet you screated and are selling?
Its not my spreadsheet as I've mentioned! Just one I purchased and use🤭
I love this! Also just want to throw out there for anyone newer to credit cards that it’s a good idea generally to keep your older cards open unless you have other long standing credit history, because your length of credit can impact your credit score quite a bit.
Yep I said that in this video that I keep my oldest credit card open🤭
I made this mistake recently. I closed my student "starter" credit card and upgraded to my Chase card....and my near-perfect credit score plummeted. Love the transparency. Great content ❤️💯🙌🏾
Thank you 🙌
Do you have videos of when you went to school? I just started my bachelors degree in behavioral health this week.
Yep! But it was like 5-7 years ago lol so not great quality- I should go back and private them honestly 😂
Hi! The template info says it isnt compatible with excel but how come urs is on excel? how do i get mine to do that? Also, ur a lifesaver ty for all of ur helpful vids!!!:)
I'm not using Excel in this video, it's Google Sheets!

Just curious. What do you do IF you and your BF break up? What do you do with the house?
We'll we're engaged/getting married so not really concerned about that 😅 But those conversations are still important to have!
love your budget videos!! so helpful thank you for sharing 👏🏽👏🏽
Hi! Where can I find the spreadsheet😧🤒?
Its linked right in the video description!

@@CarterSullivan thanks!! :) will check it out!
Anyone can budget on paper but following through is the most important thing. Also, a person should learn how to improve the next year to budget better.
It's so true! Anyone can make a budget, it's sticking to it that requires effort & dedication!
I just rewatched your last one of these! Excited for an update :)
Notification ganggg 🎉
can you teach us how you do your excel sheet please! that’ll be fun.
omg!! thank you for this help!! really need this how to manage money!! this helped me a lot! 💕✨
Yay!!! ♥️
Great video ❤ Giving me ideas! I use that budget spreadsheet as well and it has been such a game changer.
Yay so glad it was helpful!

I do track every expense still! It keeps me accountable for my spending and I find it therapeutic to fill in!
@@CarterSullivan thanks a lot for responding!! It makes sense
I love it, thank you so much
Loved this video Carter! Could you please provide this template for the excel sheet if possible ?
Its always linked in the description!
I feel like we've all been waiting for this video!! SO excited, got my drink and a slice of pizza with me watching this!
WOOHOOO ♥️🍕
I love how you get something for Stella for Valentine’s Day ❤️ I can totally relate.
My love language is gifts even if she doesn't understand it 😂
I love this platform because it gives people a chance to learn/get ideas from others for budgeting and managing money. New sub.
I totally agree! That is one of my favourite things about RUclips!!
Omg all your videos are great but this one… I can’t wait
This made my day!! ♥️

I also switched from “Budgets 2022” to my “2023 Rich Girl Sheet” to give me better vibes hahaha
Omfg I love that energy!!!!!
Love this video Carter!!❤️💫☺️
Thank you!!
I loved "I will teach you how to be rich" .. definitely changed how I budget and save my money
BEST finance book!!
I think the saying you were referencing was “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” lol.
Yes haha that's what I meant
So jealous of that 1.8% rate for your mortgage!
There are pros and cons to it- yes we have a lower interest rate but we bought our house in a peak time so it cost us more than it would now BUT now interest rates are higher! Yay so glad! ♥️
Doesn't closing it affect your credit.
I talked about this in the video, it may have dropped my score 1-3 points but it always bounces back!
That hair looks amazing❗had to put you on full screen..
😊 thank you
@@CarterSullivan it is also interesting how you lean so heavy on budgetting.. I admire the care that you show yourself in that💙👆🏻inspiring !
I love Neo, I use it when the business is on Neo, if not I use my cash back visa
Yes same!!! Thats my rule of thumb basically😂
This is really helpful 😊. I never wanted a joint account with my partner but unfortunately for immigration purposes, since my husband is sponsoring me to become a Canadian PR, we kind of had to make one.
But it’s okay we make it work😊
I also have my own separate account
That makes sense! Every circumstance is different
I’ve always hear closing CCs was bad. Maybe it’s different in Canada
Like I said I'm not a financial professional I can only speak from experience but I keep my oldest credit card open! Other than that I open/close 2 cards a year and it hasn't affected my score more than 1-2 points and it quickly goes back up!

YAY!
I love Ramits book!
The best!!!! One of the only books that truly promotes a health mindset with money IMO!
@@CarterSullivan agreed!
My husband and I split expenses as well and have separate bank accounts.
That is awesome!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! 😝

Good to know! I overpay mine all the time honestly and it just carries over into the negatives!
@@CarterSullivan the problem is this was a lot of money 😅 and an accident, we thought it was a fraud at was

1.8%?!?!?!
yep! we bought during the pandemic and that was what interest rates were going for in Canada in 2021
Chapters on the video would be really useful :)

YES
PayPal has a great high yield savings account if anyone reading comments is looking for one. I think the rate is currently at 3.78% (not sure if it’s the same in Canada) 😊
I'll have to look into this and see if it's available in Canada!
