Hey Everyone, this is
Jeff and really excited to be part of the team and happy to chat Golden Age anytime. Quickly just want to throw it out there but I referenced the Golden Age as starting in 1939 a couple of times, call it a bit of beginner broadcast nerves but just want to clarify that it was actually June of 1938 with Action Comics #1. Thanks again for watching guys. 👍❤️
Hi Jeff. Do you think it's a good idea to have comics graded that I purchase as investments rather than for my personal collection? Meaning, in your opinion do people more often buy graded comics over raw comics? Example: Bought Teen Titans #12: First Appearance of Batman Who Laughs to keep, only to sell down the line. Have done with others for the past 2-3 years. So grade or not to grade? Thanks for your opinion. Be well.
First appearance of jeff...fingers crossed this episode becomes hot and goes for some serious cash..the speculation is real
Lol you cheeky rascal 😂😂😂😂💯👍.
The Sizzle #1 Viewing factor here is a perfect CGC 10.0 :) Great to have Jeff onboard as well. Awesome stuff Guys.
Jeff is the original Golden Eye.
Those books are insane!!!! Jeff seems like a wealth of knowledge and a awesome addition to the crew. Looking forward to more.
Randy Rasnake thanks Randy, looking forward to sharing more.
I only have 1 golden age book. Four Color Comics 178 and I am so happy to own it even if it is a low grade.
GooN love Carl Bucks Duck work.
Omg! Those were some beautiful comic gold! I think I had a hot flash! As always another great video! You guys are my favorite comic brothers! Thanks for for working so hard to bring us such great comic content!
gman2164 thanks gman. Love bringing the best content we can for the community.
I envy Jeff, this kind of thing doesn't happen often in Puerto Rico
Can you guys please make a video on how to go about sending in books to get them graded? It would be really nice for the community!!
Wow...awesome vid. Keep 'em coming!
Wow....nice comics....Golden Age....
love you passion for the comic community keep it up your a inspiration to my son THANK YOU
These videos are quickly becoming the best part of my day/drive to work. Keep up the great work guys! I'm excited to get in my first MMC for October.
Devin Doty glad we can be part of your daily routine. Thanks for listening/watching.
Welcome Jeff! Looking forward to see more of his contributions
Awesome books! Morbius is an awesome character. one day I'm going to own that comic
steve lewis I believe you will Steve.
Oldest book in my collection is Walt Disney comics and stories #156 1953
Holy crap! Those are some beautiful books
Wowww 101 in a 9.6. Awesome books
Bro super great episode love the atmosphere and the joy of seeing those books graded and in such great condition
well, that was awesome thank you chaps!, I would love some of the Golden Age space adventure books fantastic covers.
That was awesome
Welcome Jeff & thanks again dudes for consistently putting out meaningful content and keeping the community alive!
I always wanted to get at least one golden age book of characters like Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel, Flash Comics (#26 in particular) Captain America, Human Torch and Sub-Mariner. It would be great to have a small piece of history with any of those characters.
Welcome Jeff and as always great freaking video. Can't wait for the knowledge headed our way. Have fun and be safe on your trip to NYCC my brother. Much love, guys.
Joshua Sanders thanks Joshua, excited to spread the Golden Age Gospel.
Great Info!
An area I love are the "Duck" books - Four Color, Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck ... some of the covers are really spectacular and the CGC grading is brutal on these. It's an area that was once the top sellers but has all but disappeared in recent times (but still exists).
Imagine - Walt Disney's Comics and Stories was a million copy per issue seller and it's down to 3000 or so now.
Franklandish Love Barks, no one did Ducks like Barks. Usually you find them in low grade, as kids read them and tossed them around.
WOW Jeff Beautiful Books! What was your first Golden Age book purchase? Personally I dig the way the earlier issue ASM COLORS pop on the covers. Great Video Guys!
Great video! More power!
Oh yeah this just gets better and better
Damn I Love Comics!!!
I've been dabbling with golden age comics lately. They are so Fukn cool. Very fun to hunt for.
I finally picked up a golden age book in a 9.4 for 20 bucks the other day. Its gonna be in my haul vid tomorrow.
He's Got Freakin Issues that sounds awesome, I’ll keep an eye out for it.
Those were some great comics, So how do you extinguish the difference between Golden from the others?
John Rodriguez thanks John, to help distinguish time frames in general I break them down like this. The Golden Age from 1938-1948, the Atomic Age 1948-1955 and the Silver Age from 1956-1969, Bronze 1970-1983, Copper 1984-1991, Steel Age(my own name which begins with the death of Superman) from 1992-2002 and then Modern Age from 2003-current starting with Walking Dead 1. These are my thoughts on how comics should be broken down by time frame.
Jeffrey Itkin wow thx this was great info...hope I’m not asking to many stupid questions.
I've been buying as many obscure superhero books as possible while they are still cheap because this the last unexplored genre by the geekdom.
Jeff do u set up shop at San Diego comic con?
831mani I do, but usually I only bring about 6 short boxes and keep them behind a friends booth(Silver Age Comics) as I am usually there to buy books. Next year I’ll be there again but will probably take over a small section of that booth, so will definitely be more visible in 2019.
Jeffrey Itkin cool see u at the con🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Wow ! what a score good job! love that Boy comics #11. Great cover.
Love Like Blood always wanted this book and feel lucky as heck to get it in the grade I did.
Loving all the variety guys...always learning.
Fantastic offering guys! The content keeps getting better and better. Much love from Malaysia.
Shout out from San Antonio Texas guys God Bless
Imagine you excitement if you could actually touch, read and truly experience the book. it hurts my heart to see these books locked away forever. The little boy in me says "why, why?"
Awsum channel guys learning heaps of you guys .just keeps getting better definitely helped me invest in comics .lots that you guys have talked .about.i think morbius will have his own show key character
Michael Brewster thanks so much. Love the Morbius character as well.
Im jealous of your studio setup .... argh
Thx Itkin for the show and tell, so you mention that they start at 1934 until what year and most of the time I don’t have time to open a comic and see the date of publication, so anything on the cover that give away it golden Age goodness other then of course a vintage look.
Great video. Can you guys do a video restored golden age comics? Why and how was glue and color touch added to so many golden age books? Thanks.
Thanks for the input Jeff, I really appreciate that!
Regarding you guys comments on the ASM 101, I really feel like horror is the one genre the movies haven't mined yet. Btw, Tom I watched Creep and Creep 2. The second one is so weird. Liked both of them. Never thought of Duplass in that way, but he pulls it off in spades. Great video guys, as always.
Not sure if I have the balls to meet on Craig’s list, in a storage spot. Lol great story nice job
I've seen way too many tv shows to try that...!
Great job guys and good to meet Jeff.
Great show.. Jeff brings such great knowledge.
Erol Molnar thanks Erol, really appreciate it.
My pleasure Jeff.. It's nice to see someone who collects with great style and passion and not just Hulk 181s as some lol
I really love this episode. I mainly collect golden age horror, and asm.
Maybe one day I'll own a golden age. For now I'd consider myself a beginner and I've barely dipped my toes into collecting silver age. You gotta know what you're lookin for lol. Loved the video guys!
First full appearance of Jeff the Golden Age Guru! He appeared earlier in one of Tom’s videos as a dealer at a Con.
I missed out on a checker board Detective comics #365 "The house that Joker Built" :(....Also nice to "meet" you Jeff
Ray Pantoja thanks Ray, sorry you missed out. Always another book to want out there.
Very exciting video. Looking forward to many more golden age related videos! 👍🏽👍🏽
Love golden age books
Awesome! I wish I had some golden age stuff, or Atomic for that matter...
It would be amazing if you guys did a video explaining how exactly to break in and getting a foot in the door on the investing in comics game since Jeff mentioned how some guidance is useful. Would it be best to start of in modern age comics and flip & trade your way backwards through time to start acquiring silver and gold age books?
I just started watching your show and I fucking love it. You guys are great.
deadp00l 420 thanks so much, we really love making content for everyone to enjoy.
I love the Golden Age. In particular Exciting Comics. They are hard to find and the ones I do find are way over priced. Great show and fantastic comics.
Venger 1 a pretty decent run that definitely saw a few transitions in format. Some great covers.
They are just so hard to find.
I'd love to get my AMS 101 graded. It's so jacked up it's probably a 1.5-2.0.
Awesome show, great work
Beautiful comics. I was hoping to see legitimate Golden Age books. We mainly saw Silver.
Nice walk down memory lane.
Craigslist is the TRUTH!! Haha
Also more Jeff!
I really enjoyed this video and I hope to see more like it real soon!
It's honestly been your videos that have got me interested in Golden Age! Really want to just save and find a book I really, really want. Really like a look of a lot of the crime ones! Any tips on finding Golden Age comics here in the UK? Thought you might know some dealers over here or something!
Loving the videos as always!
Captain Conrad not to familiar with the UK market place, let me make some calls next week and see if I can find some options for you. Feel free to reach out to me again towards the end of the week as a reminder. 👍
Thanks a lot man, much appreciated!
What about 1940 and 1950s Zorro?
Have one golden age book. 1948 Two Gun Kid #1.
I remember finding an All Funny 19 for a few dollars.
great books and great video
I love the golden age covers. I have e few books, Lone Ranger 2 and some Dell Four colour. I have a question about buying Golden Age books. Besides Ebay. I seem to be really unlucky on Ebay.
Jesper Nicolaj Christiansen eBay can be a challenging place to buy and even tougher with Golden Age as info is limited, books are older, more pages to count etc...
Any Golden age characters you think they should bring back?
Hi Jeffrey what you think about the bloodshot comics .i think vin diesel has been cast to play his character .valiant comics i believe were very popular back in the day.what are your thoughts
Tom ,Russ and Jeff I got a couple books back from CBCS that I felt were undergraded. The most note worthy is hulk 181 at a grade of 7.5. I really think it would be an 8.0 with CGC which on this book could be a difference in value of about $500. Jeff, have you noticed that CBCS seems to grade a little stricter than CGC?
Tony Miles so much goes into grading a book by most every grading company so this is a tough one to answer. With that said, I feel of late, that I have seen quite a few books graded by CBCS to be hit a bit harder then CGC does. I have had a lot of success recently pressing and resubmitting books to CGC for decent upgrades. On a side note I have been hit plenty hard by CGC as well. It appears that there are different grading standards for different faults on CBCS side, so more knowledge on their baselines would be immensely helpful.
Man those are some gorgeous books! I'd be curious to hear what he invested in the books raw before he had them graded.
Great video guys!I know I'm watching a little late, but I'm super interested in getting an issue of "Tales from the Crypt" as my first golden age book.what would be a good issue to get at a reasonable price if there is even such thing as that for a golden age book?
geezy _m7 some great issues in Tales from the crypt. Fantastic title to begin with. Let me brain storm and get back to you next week.
Jeffrey Itkin thanks,that would be awesome,appreciate that!👍
Hey Jeff, you said you got The Boy at a 7.0. What sorcery did you use to make it a 9.0 with getting the dreaded purple label?
Haunted Bathtub there were imperfections in it that were very subtle and could be improved upon with a press. Had CGC press it and got a solid upgrade.
Jeff is awesome does he ever go to LA or Wondercon to sell?
I am still a rookie at figuring out silver and golden age but this was awesome I felt like a little kid in a toy store. I would collect the golden age horror books.
Comics Addiction thanks so much. I will be at Terry O’Neals Cal Comic Con, a great 1 day comic show in Yorba Linda and then back again for SDCC. Love Golden Age horror as well.
Jesus Christ man🤯🤯🤯🤯
This was an impressive haul. Some huge books in there. Jeff seems amazingly knowledgeable. I generally collect the books that mean something to my childhood. Characters I grew up loving or stories that meant something to me are most important. Sadly, that means I have no real interest in Golden Age books. It's just too disconnected from anything that is meaningful to me personally. They're historically valuable and important but not personally so.
John's Comics with Kids totally respect that opinion. I love people just having interest in comics no matter what period. That’s what makes it diverse and there is enough history for interest to be had by all.
Jeffrey Itkin that’s a great way of looking at this topic!
Oh I absolutely love the silver and golden age. I sold my collection in order to purchase my 2nd home...you know what they say happy wife happy life..👍
Israel Nieves no words ring truer then those. Comics aren’t going anywhere and will always be waiting for you when you are ready to come back.
Jeffrey Itkin
Oh I’m looking forward to building up another silver and golden age wall in my new man cave... 😁
That’s crAzy golden age books !! For me it’s that 1st app of batgirl in a 9.0 an above! I’ll be happy with a .5
we need more Golden Age love
BEAUTIFUL........ 🔒⬇
Is that a autograph picture of John Stiamos inbetween Deadpool and the Nameless?
Paul Cox steranko 🤙
@@ComicTom101 ok, I was way off, lol.
I have a question for the experts... I heard that DC demanded comic shop owners to return all copies of batman damned & if they don't DC will fine them😳 Is this true or pure bs just to justify the mark up at lcs😬 not knowing if this true is driving me crazy
Gotta be pure BS. It sold out in 2 days. Plus, how are shop owners gonna get sold books back? I have 3 copies. NOT happening.
Great books Jeff!
I have a cool Rocket Ship X. High grade!!
Charles Day that has to be a beautiful book. Especially with all the reds used in that cover.
Great video and some beautiful books!!
I found Prize Comics in a dollar bin 20 years ago in G- condition.
Nighttiger great run, congrats.
Man my holy grail daredevil 1, wow! Batgirl,
Sweet!!
Hey jeff welcome aboard..how do i get some. Golden age books for a decent price?
Marty Jones I would first figure out your budget and then the characters you like? After that is done I would recommend finding out what keys classify themselves for your guidelines and then find that book in the grade you can afford.
Hi I always wanted to invest in All Star Comics..
RED Matos that’s a great run and something that isn’t so overwhelming with issues that it can’t be accomplished. Obviously there are a few huge books in the series but a lot of great covers with classic heroes in all of them that can still be had for “reasonable”.
I have moved onto collecting older books now so I’m loving this episode! I’ve always wondered how much capital do you need to invest on so many books like this?
Howlett Corps retail is extremely high on all those books but I bought most of them 5-8 years ago so I have had them before the major price hikes. But what I will say is this, the more knowledge you have of books and their market place the more chance you have to find something at a reasonable price. Many many many books fall between the cracks and if you know the market place by listening and monitoring sales you will have the advantage and can make a smart and educated buy. Most of what I buy is because I know quite a bit more then most.
Jeffrey Itkin that makes sense. I just see online people buying two or three key CGC books and I wonder business wise how to invest like that. I get overwhelmed hunting down one book let alone afford to put down that much on several books. I wonder what am I doing with my life that I don’t have a couple thousand dollars to spend on books! ;P
Yeah...about that morbius movie..
Guess I’m in the wrong club, or just lousy at collecting books. Had that showcase 30 at PGX 4.0. Looked much nicer and had not been cleaned or pressed. Very excited about the possibility of at least a 4.5 or above.Sent to CGC, and after five months of waiting, received the gift of a universal 2.5 with “covered detached“. I purchased it from a seller I know well. I know the cover was not detached when PGX initially graded. I know it didn’t fall off when it was in the case. Basically, CGC detached cover during their cleaning and pressing process, but of course they will never take responsibility for that. They screwed me big time but there is no recourse for us regular collectors. Getting pretty tired of CGC’s carelessness and elitism. Great video otherwise. Thanks.
What are your top 5 under valued Golden Age books?
Gut Shot Games oh that is a great idea for a video. Market is always changing but to answer a question like that requires research and an understand of ones budget plus their short term/long term goals.
Do you press all comics with cgc
“Guys! GUYS!! DO YOU SEE THAT CHECKERBOARD‼️”
