I spent all my teenage years in foster care in Ontario. As a young native man being off the reservation for the first time in my life and being exposed to the abuse that exists in the children's aid society was HELL. I would put my headphones in and turn it as loud as my brain could tolerate. Bands like OLP helped me through those hard times. I remember crying my eyes out my heart felt so heavy my whole body would shake and tremble and I would go to a quiet place and listen to my music as loud as I could and it always was a friend. A voice of love and a companion in a place I felt like I had nothing and no one. I mean it from the bottom of my heart Thank you for helping me through that. I am in my 30's now and those days are long behind me but I still remember them when I listen to the music, the hardships but also the GOODNESS I found in that dark place like music and meditation and the importance of keeping a positive mental attitude. Thank you OLP. -A grateful fan from a small reservation in southern Ontario.
They’ve been my favourite band since I first heard them in 1995… almost 30 years of amazing music, countless concerts, and Canadian pride!! And how is Naveed STILL the BEST SONG EVER?? Goosebumps after all these years. Nothing but love ❤

I see a lot of people trashing Raine Maida’s voice on here. I think what people have to realize is how difficult it probably was to sing the way he did for years, and the strain that probably put on his vocal chords. I appreciate that the band is trying to adapt and adjust to what he can or can’t do Live at this point. I’m not a huge fan of their last two albums, but hopefully whatever Spiritual Machines II ends up being, is something special.
I do wonder what would happen if he took time off for like 6-12 months and sang nothing but opera with a coach. I’d be curious to see if he’d get stamina back
With proper technique his old way of singing was not difficult at all, nor was it physically demanding. I'm guessing he did not use proper technique for years, which was common at the time they got popular. He probably never expected OLP to get huge and go on tour for years in a row.
I love Raine Maida and OLP so much. But it feels like a full octave has been shaved off of his voice. Then again, yeah we should cut him some slack. Perhaps the whole band should tune the songs down too.
Favorite album: Happiness is not a fish.... I just think its a fricking masterpiece of interesting song-writing, vocals, ridiculously cool guitar and drumming that is bar-none. One of my fondest memories is my girlfriend and I laying in bed listening to that album from start to finish and both loving every second. Cool fact, she was the Acapella director for Penn State when attending.
First album I ever bought: clumsy. Fav of all time: happiness... This BAND is a motherloving MASTERPIECE! I can't believe they're still going, I grew up on these guys and they got me through SO MUCH. I've had to re-purchase both of the aforementioned cds over the years because I would play the shit out of them till every song was a skipping nightmare lol I only did that with a few artists/albums, but OLP was my greatest escape. Goddamn, if they aren't absolutely timeless, I don't know what is. Im crying watching and hearing this right now! My god, what I wouldn't give for the chance to see them live! Maybe it's not too late? That's just straight up mind blowing. I hope they never stop ... This is the kind of music the world needs!! I am so grateful to these guys for all the gifts they have shared with all of us over the years; I quite literally owe them my life. Nothing but love for Our Lady Peace 🖤✊💜✌️🤍
I see he's really refined his singing technique over the years. It may not sound as good as his old way of singing, but this way he won't be left without a voice within a few years. Good for him.
It actually makes me really sad... he doesn't even try to do anything after the second chorus on Superman's Dead, and you can tell it's because he literally just can't do that "Subway" line anymore. His voice is much more limited and baritone now. With proper vocal coaching, his old technique was not damaging at all. And in fact his actual range is only like 3-4 octaves IIRC. Just the way he used it made it really effective and impressive. I'm guessing they did a ton of touring and Raine never really learned how to do his vocals on a rigourous tour and eventually wrecked his voice. Now he's stuck with a much more limited technique. I'm sure it kills him that he can't do it more than it does any fan though. It's like an athlete who's body can't perform like it used to. I'm glad I got to see them in the late 90s when they were still killing it.
Man was it good to be in that crowd..... seeing one of my favourite bands of all time for the first time in my life after growing up listening to them..... what a night
@@oliverracz2686 I was HUGE fan up to "Spiritual Machines", but Gravity was horrible, just mainstream garbage... Fell out of love for them after that. Happy to revisit their older stuff though!
I remember buying Naveed and showing it to my band mates and my best friend who was in an other band, and the reaction I got from him when he recognized, Raine, as the guy who had the same vocal coach in North York as him. I don’t recall her name anymore but it was a cool connection. Listening to an album for the first time with solid people, putting pieces together musically & interpreting lyrics. Fond memories indeed.
As an American who lives in northern Minnesota who has been with our lady peace since the beginning they represent Canada 🇨🇦 well. Good to see them going strong. Well until the pandemic. Great work guys.

The combined voices of everyone. Every single person knowing every single lyric. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen in my life. I was overjoyed to see my favourite band and undeniably lucky to have seen the others.
OMG I love Raine's voice and always have. Of course he not 27 years old anymore either - the singing voice changes over time. Every singer goes through that. He looks amazing, has kept himself 'hot' UNLIKE the majority of 90's bands and still has it all. It's my opinion that if you weren't around in the 90's and don't know Our Lady Peace, then you're not going to like his music. They know who their fans are.

A work of art. RIP OLP.
The only band in existence where I have loved every song on every album. Typically its one or two songs here and there with the exception of 311.
You like Never Get Over You? Apology? Dreanland? Picture? Those songs are horrible, which I say as a huge OLP fan.
mmjahink Funny enough, Picture and Apology are among my favorite OLP songs. I think Gravity was their weak album.
"Dreamland" is real nice. I'm not big on the message behind the lyrics, very unlike Raine, but still. NICE SONG IMO ^__^

Royans vocal school.
That is so weird, I had a similar experience. Can't even remember who the guy was, but he was positive he'd had the same coach as Raine Maida.
