Shoutout to Goosky & OMP. Been slowly getting into Heli's after years of fixed wind & quads. Bought a few awful lemons but I've been blown away by the Goosky S1. I also have heard similar things about the OMP M1. Micro Heli's have a great future.
Great list, I started with ELRS with a Radiomaster Boxer if I only flew quads that it would still be my daily, I now run the TX16S as my daily I'd love to see the TX16S in a boxer case,
It'll be interesting to see you review some of those flat foam planes. See how they fly and how different they can fly if you put a flight controller and GPS and everything in them. Kind of like cheap airframe plus all the expensive Hardware. Idk could be fun.
Hi Lee, Great video. I'll be happy to help you with cleaning out your shop. lol. Im sure by now, I love everything RC FPV. And now I'm getting ready to switch to walksnail. I still have my TARANIS, but now im flying my Boxer. I can't wait to get some more quads switch to walksnail by the end of next year. Thanks for the video.
I just wanted to thank you for your videos over the years. OpenTx on the old FrSky Horus X12S. Yes I was one of those guys. I still have 2 of them. However I just couldn’t go down that road again. I decided to get a Radio Master T16S max. I ordered a FCC 4-1 with an ELRS module. I believe it will have EdgeTx on it. Hopefully I will be able to use most of my older FrSky rx’s. They were so cheap at the time I bought a lot of them. Hopefully the switch to Edge will be easier than learning OpenTx. We will see.
Hey Lee, long time fan. I bought a dolphin, penguin, swordfish, and a dove on your recommendation I couldn't agree more with the assessment of planes for this year. The dove is a particular favorite of mine. However it has a tendency to have a leftward crab. Did yours exhibit this behavior? I have squared up all the control surfaces and tuned the esc to have a brake and that helped. It's not a deal breaker by any means I'd totally recommend it to anyone wanting a FPV platform. The maiden was flawless and toenail curling uneventful. It's so smooth that I'd almost call it boring. The dolphin is a fantastic little ripper and the penguin is great for putzing about for anyone wanting to do that close proximity slow crawl. On 4s it will nearly hover and in angled mode it will get into a really slow high alpha. okay I've warbled enough have a good one keep doing your thing.
Really excellent list, Lee! Thanks a bunch! 😃 I'm finally going to start to buy stuff for the hobby again! And I'm seriously considering a charger, perhaps the MT12 and the Boxer. But we shall see - and I let you know. 😊 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great video, Lee. Out of curiosity, what backpack are you using? I would be curious to see a video from you of vlog kind to following on a flying day. Just an idea. Cheers
It is no longer something I fly regularly. It is a good wing, but no longer a cut above the ones, mentioned... see my fixed wing videos aimed at quad pilots. Best of luck!
Dont rule out a FrSky X20S tx running Ethos for a higher quality (hardware) but more expensive tx - plug in a nice ELRS module in back & you are well setup
Not for me, see my comments at the start of the video: I don't like closed, propriety vendors. I've never had a good experience dealing with Frsky. In my experience, they don't listen and are too arrogant to wprk wirh others... I still like the X9D+, though ;) Happy flying!
Good day. Our biggest problem in our area is GPS lock. Only GPS locally available is the bn220 . Is it possible to connect more then one GPS on 1 flight controller for piece of mind. Sometimes waiting up to 10min for GPS lock. And max GPS 8 locked.
I am fascinated with the stuff you talk about, particularly FPV and things like Betaflight, Inav, etc. However, though I did try to build your head steering of a simple 3D camera gimbal with an Arduino, where I never got the signal over to the plane. One reason, well, soldering and such, is outside my envelope. I also have tried 3-axis gyros, but though they are very easy to hook up with no soldering, they still are a challenge. Still, I'd like to try out something like the fix-wing F-405 boards, but they do not exist as "Ready to Connect", like the 3-axis gyros, need tons of soldering. So, why, with 10-of-thousands fixed-wing fliers, why hasn't anyone made a "Ready-to-Run" such board, only to hook up to a serial receiver and then to the enginen, servos, and to FPV. Most of my FPV are 3-5V, so I run them off a free servo port in most cases, and those Runcam and Caddlx I use are pin-compatible. I started with a Hubsan SpyHawk 2014; not very good, but apart from the lack of OSD and RtH in the last version, it was RTF giving me a lot of fine FPV films. I still have it, though now fully Spektrum/-Runcam, since the ol' transceiver stopped working. I do lack a perspective helping us "thumb in the middle of the hand" that want to evolve to as you, to fly FPV-IRL.
Soldering and crimping are skills that are needed to fit hardware into a model, even if the stuff is supplied 'pins attached'. Flight controllers and fixed wing stabilisers are available with pins soldered on will still need fitting. I have tutorials on all of these skills if you want to learn... Happy flying!
Thanks for the vid! I have a question, it might be dumb, just consider I'm very new to the hobby. What's the fuss about flying wings? I never had a one, so far my experience is just pics/vids from internet. And they look strange... incomplete. But it is very personal, I'm sure there's many people who prefer their aesthetics over planes. Are they more capable than classic plane configurations? By intuition I believe it should be opposite. Another pattern I noticed they are mostly used in FPV and probably a prop in the back allows a better camera placement. But classic planes also have back props like AeroScout or two prop configurations. How do you explain, why wings are so popular, especially in fpv/inav scenarios and what makes you prefer wings over planes?
What people like to fly is a very personal thing. Some like wings, some prefer planes built for FPV, some like planes to resemble their real life counterparts. There are no wrong answers. Wings are agile, fast, simple to build and setup, cheap, easy to transport, and easy to repair. Happy flying!
Hola, buenas noches amigo. : )
Awesome video - Thank you Lee! Your channel has helped us a lot. Our student team are building a large scale Fixed Wing UAV able to deliver heavy payloads for a competition and your videos have helped us in selecting components. We are in the process of ordering stuff now. Going with the Pixhawk 6C and the radios you recommended in this video have been a big shout. We also are going with a Heewing T1 as a test base to check everything works before we custom design our chassis. Your series have be so helpful and definitely will be coming back to this channel to configure it all! Quick question, do you know if there is any difference between m9n gps and m10? It seems the CEP and nav update rate is higher on the m9n which i'm confused by, since I thought M10 was the latest? Also, have you had any experience with high amperage motors (I believe we are going with two 70A motors with 18*8 props), and if so, any advice regarding power distribution, melting wires etc? Thanks in advance and love your stuff! 🙌
Professional builds and Pixhawk stuff aren't using M10 a lot. They use M9 almost all the time. That is due to the high performance of the M9 based GPS systems and the options for RTK using the F9P units. Check out the videos I've made with 3DXR for options with higher power systems. Best of luck
@@Painless360 Thank you Lee! Especially the 3DXR video suggestion. I just watched them all now and they were super helpful. I previously was concerned about which brands/components were good since most people don't cover high power systems. The recommendations in that video were great! Is there any chance you know anywhere else we can get such information? Maybe another series or channel or someone we could contact? I know your a busy guy so I don't want to keep bombarding you with questions. All the best and thanks again! - Ireland
Hi Lee ,such a great video mate ,you are always one step ahead , that’s exactly what I wanted . I learnt so much from you and I keep learning , if you ever come down under please let me know it will be my honour to guide you around 🦘🦘🦘
Thanks for this video. Getting back to flying and am going to have to re-purchase everything. This video helps with what to look at first 🎉
A good solid list of picks.

Most of the Frsky protocols are in the 4in1 multiprotocol module so should work with the radio. See my example binding video... best of luck!
Excellent summary Lee. On point.😊

Nice idea for a video. I use a regular hiking backpack, and all the stuff has a bag/case... Happy flying!
Ripper 690 on a preview, though not mentioned in video:(
Do you think it's a good one as a first fixed wing? I have had only quads so far
It is no longer something I fly regularly. It is a good wing, but no longer a cut above the ones, mentioned... see my fixed wing videos aimed at quad pilots. Best of luck!
agree apart from one point, the tx16s isn't too big but caveat I have hands like shovels.

That is an old, insensitive GPS. I'd order a modern M8 or M10 GPS. Best of luck

Dear Lee, which plane would you suggest for beginners?
Thank you.
I'd suggest a Skywalker/Bixler style.... Best of luck

Thanks for the Vid! Very helpfull. I was considering a Vtol. Not now! If you struggled I'm never going to get it to fly!
Great content!

I've not seen that here. Happy flying!
Why do you not consider the boxer a suitable "TX16s but smaller" replacement?
Too many switches, sliders and controls lost... Happy flying

How about zohd altus?
See my review.. a nice model, but one with a few too many shortcomings to make it to the top of my lists. Happy flying
Give me a tx16s shaped like my old Dx6. I use it the least but it's by far the best size and shape.
