      Actually you can still shoot with FP-100C or stuff even if they were "expired" for a couple of years, as they actually degrade way slower, especially when kept cool. The problem is, there're only stock there, so the films would be harder and harder to get, also they'd cost more and more over time...
      Anyway, we probably have to wait for the ONE INSTANT Project (by SUPERSENSE) to save us from this predicament...

    cool video. what if I want to get an expired film look on the edges? Would I need to actually use expired film or would pressing the film in a certain way do the trick? Thanks for a great video!

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  8 лет назад

      +Fabiola Jean-Louis Thank you. If you're looking to get an expired film look, it's really only possible to do so with the entire photo, not just the edges. Typically, expired polaroid film will shift towards blue or pink and there will be an overall desaturated look across the photo. Try peeling a color photo after about 20 or 30 seconds, instead of giving it the full 60 or 90 seconds. That should get you somewhat of an effect like you're after.
      If you're hoping to get those weird little bits and dots along the edges of a photo, that would happen organically, usually as a result of peeling the backing off much faster than recommended. The great thing with Polaroid is that you just get to experiment with different techniques and see what works best for you! :)

    Hi, I have a Polaroid Big Swinger I bought on eBay last year that was tested and working. It worked with the FP 3000B film they provided me but when I bought more packs on Amazon those packs started didn't take pictures but the flash bulb went off? • @CarletonTorpin

      Unfortunately, I do not know of any better sources for the FP-3000 stock. It's such a magical film stock to use and I'm so sorry that more people may not get to experience that joy firsthand.
      Is it worth $100 a box? Yes, if you can afford it, it's absolutely worth the $10/shot price tag.
      It works great with pinholes since it allows relatively short exposure times that can freeze motion, as opposed to blurring, as a slower 100-speed stock would do.

      +CompulsionNeurosis Unfortunately, there is no reliable place to buy FP-3000B film any more. It pops up a bit on eBay and similar online marketplaces but almost always at those high prices. It will only get worse since, as you mentioned, it is no longer produced. Once the stock runs out entirely, there will likely be a period of between five and ten years before we find someone else stepping up to make the stock again. Those will be sad, dark, un-polaroid-y years.

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  7 лет назад +1

      If the first two came out properly and the third didn't, it could be a few different things. Based on the fact that the batteries were providing enough power to get an image on your first two images, I wouldn't look to the batteries as a source of problem. It could be that the light meter was receiving a ton of light on it, but your subject was not. That would cause a mis-reading and a supremely underexposed image. You can compensate for an under or overexposed image by using the Lighter / Darker dial on the front of the camera.
      If it happens again: take the pack of film out of the camera in a dark room and set it in a dark bag or cabinet. Take the camera into a decently-lit environment, open the back of the camera and frame up another shot, cock the shutter, and press the shutter button. If you see light coming through the lens, then your shutter is working and it's probably a light meter compensation issue that is causing your completely-black frame.

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  6 лет назад

      Unfortunately, the Kodak Colorburst 50 can only be used with Kodak's own brand of instant film, which is not produced any more. Kodak left the instant photo business in 1985, after Polaroid successfully sued them for patent infringement. Any remaining supply of Kodak instant film will be expired and likely unusable by now (in 2018).

      @CarletonTorpin  9 лет назад

      It's relatively easy to do, if you have one of the models I listed in the video. You need to buy a 3-AAA battery holder (vertical style is best so it can fit into the battery container) and then you just attach the appropriate wires of the new holder to the old battery wires on the camera.
      Google "Polaroid camera battery conversion" to get more info on how to do this.

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  8 лет назад

      +LifeLostSoul I wouldn't expressly avoid the Automatic 320 but, on the whole, it's one of the cheaper Polaroid cameras. It has a plastic lens and a few other build-quality tradeoffs, like the non-folding viewfinder. The very best models to buy are the 100, 250, 350, and 450. These all feature glass lenses, folding viewfinders, and tripod sockets. In the end, whatever camera you can get and start shooting with is the vest best camera to get. You can always upgrade after falling in love with Polaroid photography. :)

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  7 лет назад

      It's more than likely that your light meter isn't connected to power. The shutters are dependent on the light meter reading and, without it, the shutter never even opens, even if the button is pressed. So, see about putting some batteries in the camera and trying again. I imagine you'll have better results. :)

    Do you know what happens if you let it develop longer than it’s supposed to? Or does it affect the picture in any way?

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  6 лет назад

      Development over 60 seconds is usually fine. I've let some photos develop for hours before I've peeled them and there was no noticeable differences in color, compared to a photo that was peeled at the suggested 60-second development time.
      You can get interesting color effects by peeling Polaroids before their development is fully set. If peeled between the 10 and 30 second window (after being pulled through the rollers of the camera), sepia tones can sometimes be achieved. Generally, the under-developed images will look less colorful and might lack contrast.

    Why are the batteries important? What are they doing that they are needed?

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  8 лет назад

      +LifeLostSoul Great question! The batteries in the Polaroid (100 thru 400 series) camera are required to activate the light meter which, in turn, controls how long the shutter stays open. With no batteries, the shutter will click and it may sound like a photo is being taken when, in reality, it let absolutely no light in to expose the film. Basically, without batteries, these cameras can not function at all.

    Why are the prices for the films now 3 times higher than you said?

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  6 лет назад

      Fuji has discontinued both their FP3000 (B&W) and FP100C (color) film, so whatever remains now (in 2018) is the last of the remaining stock. Prices on the film will likely continue to rise as the available supply of both film stocks continues to diminish.

    how can I test the camra before buying the battery

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  7 лет назад

      There aren't many ways to reliably test the shutter without hooking it up to a battery. In 2017, the battery costs less than a pack of peel-apart film, though, so it's more cost effective to get a battery before getting a pack of film.

    will this film work for the 220?

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  7 лет назад

      It will, yes. Make sure your camera is functional before you get some film, though. If the shutter makes two distinct sounds when you try pressing the shutter button in a dark room, then you're good. If not, check the battery compartment to see if you need to replace them.

    So what do you do If you bring it somewhere to take pictures? You cant leave them on a table for 60 minutes everywhere you go.

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  8 лет назад

      +0zfer I've found that it's really only the first 5 or so minutes that you really have to be careful with new color polaroid prints. After that, they're more dry and durable and less likely to pick up random particulates and dust. I've put some in a jacket pocket after 5 minutes and they usually turn out fine. It's definitely best if you can leave them around in a safe place for a full 60 minutes or so though.

    So the picture itself is still wet after you take it?

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  10 лет назад

      It's not actually "wet"; it just looks shiny. It's totally possible to touch the photo as soon as you peel it apart.

    • @typeinstant
      @typeinstant 10 лет назад +1

      It gets a little bit wet, mainly the chemical on the lower part of the photo tab and the "goopy" material of the negative (which you can bleach later when dryed)
      Fuji FP films stops processing automatically, so you don't need timer or anything else. Just wait enough time. When I shoot, I store all tabs in my case and peel them when at home. The photos are less wet and the chances to get dust on the picture are lower. And I can also store the negative to bleach later.

    anyone know if this film will work for a j66 polaroid land camera?

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  8 лет назад

      +Parker Crumbly (JPC3299) It does not work with the J66 unless you do extensive modifications. You'd need to get a standalone polaroid film holder and then modify that J66 to accept that holder. Even then, I think there are various optical corrections you need to make to ensure that the lens focuses onto the film properly. That J66 can be retrofitted to accept 120 roll film though, if you're looking for a way to take photos with it.

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  9 лет назад

      Unfortunately no. For SX-70 cameras, you need the film packs that companies like The Impossible Project offer. They're expensive and somewhat finicky but they are getting better every year. Someday, we'll get back to actual Polaroid quality levels with the Impossible Project.

    • @samanthaahtnamas8035

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  9 лет назад

      Kind of. The only cameras that work with this film I'm showing in the video are the ones that look similar to this. Google "The Land List" to see all the compatible cameras that use pack film like in the video.
      Also, the shots you get from a pack film camera like this are dramatically different from the ones you get from an SX-70 type. Neither is objectively better or worse; they're just very different. :)

      When an item is available in limited numbers, it can often be sold for a higher price.
      Fuji stopped producing peel-apart instant film in 2016. As of the year 2020, the last remaining boxes of FP-100C and FP-3000B are being sold. When the last boxes of Fuji's peel-apart film have been sold, there will no reliable source of peel-apart instant film.

    Danny McDonald, is your camera a Super Swinger II Color or just a Super Swinger II? The color one can take more films but the normal one takes only black and white, 3000 speed film.

      This video was made in 2013, and in 2013 Fuji was still producing both FP-100C and FP-3000B instant films. Fuji stopped manufacturing peel-apart film stock in 2016. In our present year of 2020, FP-100C and FP-3000B are becoming more rare, and they are being sold for much higher prices than their original retail prices that I mentioned in this video.

    Hi, I have a Polaroid Big Swinger I bought on eBay last year that was tested and working. It worked with the FP 3000B film they provided me but when I bought more packs on Amazon those packs started didn't take pictures but the flash bulb went off? I got the same film pack tested by another camera and it worked. The battery powers my camera but when ever I take the picture it comes out blank. The spreaders are clean and I put the film in always as directed. This incident happened with 2 different packs of film. Any ideas on what and how I should fix this? Thank you :)

    • @CarletonTorpin
      @CarletonTorpin  8 лет назад

      +Jimmy F12345 It's hard to say for sure why you're experiencing problems. If the flashbulb goes off on a Big Swinger camera, that means you've got working batteries in the camera, which is the first thing to check when you get black frames. If you take the film out of the camera (which will waste a single frame, but none of the ones behind it) and take a photo with the back of the camera open, do you see light entering through the lens? If not, then you've got a shutter problem, which is pretty hard to fix.

      Aré you using b&w film? The big swinger is only prepared for 3000 speed film
