The Best Polaroid Land Camera

- There are a number of different models of Polaroid Land Cameras to choose from, and it can be a bit confusing if you're just starting out. In this video, I give an overview of the model that I think is the best value, as well as do some shooting at an abandoned motel with Fuji's FP100C pack film.

Fuji are fools for getting rid of Peel Apart...
With the current Resurgence, i'm hoping all is not lost
I have hope that someone will eventually come up with a replacement. Until then, stock up on Fuji!
Ehimetalor Akhere Unuabona I hope they bring it back. It’s so far superior than instant film
Kyle McDougall there is the Packfilm kickstarter
Has anyone found a replacement for the peel apart film? :’(
Tamie Le hey, apparently there is a company called one instant, might be available this summer😊
You can definitely bleach the back paper and turn it to a full scannable/printable negative. Which comes out extremely sharp. A lot more detailed than the actual print. It's technically a large format negative.
I've heard of that before and definitely plan to try it. Maybe for a future episode.
dude i need to see examples of this being done, any resources for learning how or seeing photos that resulted with this idea?
This is from where I first found the idea a few years back: www.filmsnotdead.com/how-to-make-negatives-from-instant-fujifilm-fp-100c/
@@Fjalll wow~ thanks for sharing!
Not with all types.
Only with FP-100C from what I’ve seen.
It's so sad pack film is gone, I never got a chance to shoot it and I can't bring myself to give it a try now.
Pick some up and give it a go! You won’t regret it.
I just shot a ack of 10 for my 84 year mom’s birthday!
Joseph Delgadillo oh do try it . I used in on a 5x4 camera in college in the early 2000- brilliant- didn’t know until recently you could get cheaper hand held cameras that took the film
Don't give up, there is plenty of films for sale now, this may not be the case in 5-10 years. Even if the "Polaroid Originals" or someone else comes up with another film, it will never be the real FP-100C , it would never be able to give you instant negative as well as positive.
@@govindan a real step in the right direction. HOPE!!!
Excellent video introduction to pack film and the Automatatic Land cameras! I started shooting pack film in 2012, when the Fuji color and black and white film was about $10 a pack and it wasn't hard to find expired Polaroid film. It was great to have so many options and I used to carry three Automatic 100s in my backpack with different types of film.
Pack film is still my favorite instant film and I still use it often but it just about makes me cry to think that it will soon be all dried up and gone.
I still have hope that someone will bring it back!
Awesome video man, hopefully Polaroid/The Impossible Project will bring something to the table and keep these cameras alive :)
I hope so too, Tony!
Loving your channel Kyle! Exited to see what you have to come. Your presentation is just a great as your video. Keep it up!! Keep film alive!
Hey Joseph, thanks, man! Really appreciate that.
Thanks for the informative video. My cousin just gave me the Polaroid 104 owned by my late uncle, and I was hoping to find film to use it in his memory. Unfortunately, the only fp 100c I can find is ungodly expensive now. Hundreds of dollars for a couple boxes is definitely too much for me. I'm trying to look into alternatives, but just having this camera around whether I can use it or not is a nice reminder of my uncle.
amazing videos. Extremely well shot and your narrative is consistently measured and illuminating. Looking forward to more.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed!
Those shots are great! Very nice.👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻
yay another film channel to binge watch
This was super helpful. I have Polaroid Land Camera, it came in a mixed box of cameras and I just set it aside without much thought. Knowing that I can get him for and use it is kind of exciting. I threw a couple batteries in the camera and it turns out it's still in working order. So I think it's time to order a film package and give it a try!
Great work, Kyle. Really interesting stuff and excellent delivery.
Mike Lester thanks, Mike! Glad you enjoyed! 🙏
Hey I'm about start making one of those cameras in 6x9 camera but adding a film back onto it. I'd prefer 6x12 but those backs are expensive. This video gave me the inspiration.
Beautiful Man ! "a quick digital death" thats just poetry dude. Nostalgia is a beautiful thing.
Such an amazing work!!! Love your channel!!🙌🙌🙌
Thank you!
Dude just found your videos. Great stuff man!
I completely agree! Love peel apart film! I have a Polaroid 350 but one of my wires broke on my battery converter. I’ll have to try and get it fixed. I miss taking photos with my Polaroid!
Subscribed, thank you for being calm & collected
Thank you, Quinn!
Hey man, just found your channel. Love the production on these videos. Looking forward to more!
Hey Jake, thanks for watching, man! Glad you're enjoying the vids.
Best Polaroid video out there. Thanks Kyle!
Thanks, Korey!
thx for sharing and little instruction. got to buy it or 350!
Awesome review ! Thanks for taking the time !
Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you for an excellent instructional video on the Polaroid Land camera, I have two fully functional Polaroid One Step 600 for which film is sold at Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc..
The most fun I had with a Polaroid-pack-film-camera was "going manual" with a Polaroid 110 (roll film) converted to pack film. With a Minolta Auto Meter IVF exposure meter in hand or a Metz 60 CT-1 for flash, I was 60 seconds away from The Future in the 1990's. I have used SX-70/OneStep Polaroids, but the lack of control has left me cool to that branch of the family. I never got to use Fuji's FP-100C, because by that time I was using digital still cameras. It would be interesting to have the peel-apart-Instant-Film option again.
FP-100C film is still available, the best ever with its usable negative as well, try it while its still here.
exactly what I needed --- thank you
Great stuff, dude! Super informative and delivered really well.
Also, great hair.
Sawmill Creative thanks brother! 🍻🤘
excuse me, i think i will just leave you two alone, good day
thank you for sharing this !! amazing. i'll buying one soon
You bet, glad you enjoyed!
its so limited maybe put it on a shelf
I had a 180 Camera for years and just got rid of it. It was amazing but the cost of film is just silly. A couple years ago it was $8.95 a box. Although the 250 is all automatic I agree it is still the best auto one made.
One can use pola back for Mamiya RZ and get even better auto results.
Beautiful video, very well explained. Love the painterly quality of the prints. Looking to get my first Polaroid, was contemplating land 180 but you convinced me with 250. Thank u!!
Thanks, Liza. Glad you found it helpful!
Given the current price and scarcity of the film I wouldn’t shoot it in anything but a fully manual camera. It’s too precious to trust a 50 year old electronic system, in my mind.
FUN VIDEO !!! Still sad the film is drying up. I have a 250 and a 100, both had the light sensor issue. Apiece of ND.6 or .9 works supposedly. But I read and used an even easier fix, use a sharpie on the light sensor, all of a sudden it works right again.
Awesome video, Kyle!
Thank you!
just found a polaroid 104 and was super excited to try out a kind of camera i’ve never gotten to before, only to find out that the film i need is now over $100 per box :(
You can actually still use expired polaroid film! At your own risk of course.. The pictures just come out grainy and you have to clean the rollers after 1 pack. If you want to try this get the newest film possible!
stunning video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, John!
Just got myself a Polaroid automatic 101 for 20 bucks lightly used can’t wait to get get some film and replace the battery to start making photos
One thing that I’ve found really helpful is to make sure you clean the rollers where the print comes. Do this each time before you load with a q-tip or something and things won’t get jammed and prints will the developing solution gel evenly spread
Good tip. I've heard people mention this before.
Super interesting video, I'd love to give it a try but I'm hesitant about getting into it and not being able to get film in a while. anyways, super interesting video Kyle
Thanks! Yeah, Fuji pack film is really starting to sky rocket in price, and obviously is getting harder to find, which is unfortunate.
Polaroid 600 or any Mamiya Press type camera with the Polaroid back and a wide angle lens would have been nicer, I think, for your Hotel indoor shoots. Just a suggestion.
I also enjoy those bleached negatives more than the positives.
Wow. Amazing video. Subbed.
Nice vid, just got a couple packs of FP100C
Connor atCanada thanks Connor. Glad you dig it!
I just found a J33 land camera at a thrift store and it looked so cool. It was $20. Im finding it hard to find videos on it though 😕
Great videos Kyle
Thanks!!
Jesus this film is expensive now. I guess it's almost finished by now
BrooklynFilmCamera actually recently got given a ton!
@@AeromaticXD yeah but like $70 for a 10 pack of film? It's obviously aimed for more well off photographers who can afford stocking up multiple packs of this film. Even spectra film doesnt go for that high and it's also been discontinued
@@areallyrealisticguyd4333 Yep which is why you can get these land cameras at damn near any antique store for about 10 bucks (on Ebay the highest I found was 30). Its sad but Fujifilm isn't going to continue making film for a niche audience of people. Kodak, Fujifilm, Lomography, etc all still make 35mm and 120mm because they know those are the two film stocks that will 100% sell. Film photography isnt that much of a niche anymore its gaining popularity at a massive rate again. However peel apart film isn't really popular and probably wont be. If it gains a resurgence then maybe Fujifilm will bring their peel apart back but I doubt it. I feel Peel Apart film stock is the new equivalent of Kodachrome. It costs far too much to produce and the amount of people who use it isnt near enough for it to warrant being made.
@@areallyrealisticguyd4333 now it does (it’s about $70 a pack), about a year and a half later. This format has been more or less entirely discontinued for 5 years now (and actual Polaroid packfilm has been gone for 15!).
You said you were on the Texas coast in this video, do you remember where? I'm also along the coast and this looks really familiar.
I have polaroid colorpack 80 I got for my birthday love it
On my country 🇸🇻 FP 100C film is used of ID Photos for companies cards and record, and still trusts on the old Polaroid Land Camera, in fact Instant Cameras like The Fujifilm INSTAX Mini 9, Polaroid 600 cameras, Polaroid Originals One Step 2 are quite expensive without mentioning the film 💵💵💰💸 here in El Salvador, and a few distributors sells the instant film, more Fujifilm instead of Polaroid Originals.
just picked up a 250 in its case with flash for 35 bucks, waiting for supersense one instant film to become available
This video is awesome! It’s so sad how Fuji decided that just because most of the world is moving forward, the other 25% is forced to tag along. RIP Fuji FP-100c, your vintage feel will never be forgotten 😔
Thanks! A lot of us definitely miss it.
The Polaroid Land 250 is the only one I have but so good! After I shoot a polaroid. I develop the large negative and the colors from that make for some amazing end result! Great job Kyle!
I just found your channel since my neighbor gave me her Polaroid 250 land camera with about 5 boxes of black and white film. It is in great mint condition and looks actually new. I will plan accordingly when to use the last remaining boxes of films. Thanks for this video!
Awesome video! Are there any cheaper film alternatives to the Fuji film you mentioned? I just inherited a 104 land camera and I’d love to try it out.
Unfortunately that's the only option, and since I've posted this video it's getting harder to find.
Nope, all out of production, but still available though.
I always feel immense sadness when I think of pack film. I first saw it in the movie Crazy/Beautiful, I was probably 13/14 & Kirsten Dunst’s character peels the film a part and rubs the negative into this book to make a transfer. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I didn’t actually get to use the film or even know what it was till almost 10 years later. And even then had I known it would no longer be made, I would have spent all my money stocking up when it was still $10/pack. 😞 it’s my absolute favorite form of film photography!
It is a bit sad to know that it will all be gone soon. There's been talk of people trying to create a similar product, which would be awesome, but I don't think it will ever be the same.
Great production
Thanks, man!
wonderful channel. what camera do you use to shoot these videos?
Thank you! I shoot the videos on a Sony A7RII with Contax lenses via an adapter.
Wow, great, meritoric video
Awesome Video. I have the 430.
Thanks, Ethan!
Nice Video, can you send me a link for the Battery Adapter? I don't found it. Best greets from Frankfurt✌️
Fuji better start making this pack film again, I refuse to spend a HUNDRED dollars on a single pack.
The best model ever was the 180! I miss that camera and the film that gave you a negative!
Sadly for Japanese companies like Fujifilm they tend to focus on their sales in Japan for their product lines for the sake of their investors. Considering how popular instax is they probably didn't consider their pack film a viable product to make anymore since everyone has moved on to their new film lines. I really wish they'd give their manufacturing to another company but they're dead set on keeping all their film formulas a secret even if it's a dead format
Now once at Convalescent Hospital for Children, it was also Christmas Day, and we opened our presents in the morning.
Dorothy was working that day, too.
I opened one of my presents, and it was a Talking Clock, which used one D battery.
I opened another present.
Out came a box.
"GE. Solid State Automatic Portable Phonograph.
With automatic turntable!!" it read.
"Lover got a record player!" Dorothy said.
I opened another present. It was also a bag that had something in it.
I took out a bunch of record albums.
"Now these are from Harry Herring, ok,Mark??" Bell said.
"Now these Bell n Whittet help me to buy.
What you think that they are??" Harry said.
"One is Miles Davis-
Kind of Blue!!
Another is John Coltrane-A Love Supreme!!
Another is Jimi Hendrix-Are You Experienced!!
Another one is Sly and the Family Stone-
Greatest Hits!!
Another one is B.B.King-Live At Cook County Jail!!
Another one is Black Gold, which also is a double album!!
And another one is the Super Hits Volumes 1 and 2!!" I said.
I opened another present, and out came a box.
"Keystone. Instant Loading Magicube Color Outfit!!" it read.
"Now Bob Whittet got that for you, ok??
That's a camera, so you won't be afraid!!" Bell said.
I opened another present.
Out came a brand new camera accessory bag, several rolls of film, and several boxes of flashcubes, which were magicubes.
Then,at 2,Mom and Dad came, and we visited.
I opened one of my gifts from Mom and Dad.
Out came a box.
"GE. FM/AM Accent Line Portable Radio!!" it read.
"Now you can listen to my radio station, which is WVOR-FM-100.5!!" Dad said.
I took it out of the box.
I turned it on- the batteries were already in it. I had on a station, and I heard easy listening beautiful music.
"This is the Empire State FM Network.
WVOR-FM-100.5, in
Rochester, New York!!" the radio blared out.
"There it is, Mark William!! That's us!!" Dad said.
"Now did I tell you??
We also broadcast Muzak throughout the stores and restaurants!!" Dad said.
"So,the Muzak you hear in Star Markets, is us!!" Dad said.
"We are up in Midtown Tower, up on the third floor of Midtown Tower, and do you know BBF??
Because that's where your brother Steve worked at!!
Steve was on the FM station!!" Dad said.
I asked what radio station WBBF was like inside.
"Steve could tell you about that! He was an announcer on the FM station!! You went in the AM side, past the reception area, down the hallway, past the sales and the promotional offices, and you come to the rooms for the AM side, and one of them is the main room for the AM side!!
Now the FM station was in the back, and it was all one room for broadcasting, and a huge classical music record library!!" Dad said.
"I also was out at WSAY.
The station that was out at the tower, in that house!! The studio for broadcasting was upstairs, and it was also the old kitchen.
You had to be very, very quiet when you went upstairs, because they could hear you all the way downstairs!!
The studio had very poor soundproofing, and they could hear you all the way downstairs if you yelled or screamed, and your voice would echo all the way downstairs!!" Dad said.
-Mark Weintraub.
Once we ate at Don and Bob's on Monroe Avenue.
I had a chocolate milkshake, a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich with chips and a dill pickle, cottage cheese, and a dish of thick chocolate custard.
I asked to use the restroom.
"Are you kidding me??
Not that place back there, you don't! That's that freezing cold, dirty place back there, and it also echoes back there, very badly!!
Steve and Stefanie brought you here the last time, and you went in there, and from what Steve said, he could hear you all the way back in there!! The sound of your voice reverberated up through the pipes in there!! It's like a horrible nightmare when you go back in there to that restroom!!
That is absolutely no place for you to be in, at all!!
It's freezing cold back there, it's dirty, it's filthy, and worst of all, it also amplifies your voice in there, for many, many miles!! Through those steel and metal pipes in there! And it also bounces off of those hard tile walls back in there!!" Dad said, but I went ahead, and I went right back in there.
The door to the restroom angrily slammed shut behind me, and I was in the men's restroom at Don and Bob's, which was a horrible, closed in, freezing cold dump of a place to be.
I heard a metal and aluminum ceiling fan blasting freezing cold air in the restroom.
I saw one whole, entire set of steel and metal pipes in the ceiling of the restroom, and the restroom was almost enclosed in steel and metal, because of the pipes.
As I tinkled in the urinal, which was a dirty old Crane urinal, I yelled and screamed, and my voice had a closed in, steel and metal echo, which rang out horribly for many, many miles in the restroom.
"I love it in this restroom.
It's really freezing cold, and there's a fan and pipes in the ceiling.
Plus it echoes in here, too.
I see a vent in the wall.
Think I'll put my mouth up to it and scream like a metal call microphone, and see what happens!" I said, and I did.
I could not hear very much of anything at first.
Then, I let out a long, deafening, earsplitting, pained scream of,
"I WANT A BACON WHOPPER WITH FIDDLE STRINGS ON TOP!!" and I also heard my voice echo and re echo up through the metal airvent and up through the pipes.
-Mark Weintraub.
You should definitely go with Mike to visit Christopher in the states. Mike said he'll pay for the trip in FP-100c.
Are you abOUt Canadian? Love your videos, great inspiration for what I'd like to do in my little channel
:) You got it.
Hi Kyle, what is the graphic at the end of your videos? looks like an A maybe. Thanks
Yep, you got it. It's an A. From the start of the 'Analogue' graphic.
I miss that great film.
I'm hearing you brother!! :-)
Excellent
I bought some of that kickstarter film but I am not 100% sure the camera I have works. Anyway to tell before wasting the film?
Now that Fuji discontinued Pack Film, and the existing stocks have been skyrocketing in price, my Countdown 90 is now just a decoration of a shelf. Let's hope someone starts making pack film again.
Yeah, the prices have jumped up big time since it was discontinued. I have three packs left now.
Hi! I'm in Canada and the prices for the film have sky rocketed and I'm wondering if "one instant packet film" would work with this camera type? I have the basic plastic blue one I found at a vintage shop the other day for $5. Would love to see if it still works. Thank you!
I'm not too familiar with the One Instant Pack film. Sorry!
@@KyleMcDougall it's all good. It's hard to find its a new thing. Thank for the help though!
Thoughts on the 440, 104 or 800?
I have like 3 of them, let me know if in 2022 still no film available for these cameras
Nope. Unfortunately not.
I wish polaroid would now start making polaroid films for these cameras because it would be awesome. Peace, Flood!
Agreed, it would be nice!
Polaroid destroyed all their buildings and equipment. Supersense is starting a Kickstarter campaign for packfilm (fingers crossed) Dec 5th 2018! #filmisnotdead #believeinfilm #savepackfilm
Hi - I have 4-5 Polaroid Land Cameras that my grandpa gave me a few years ago. Do you have any advice on how to check if they will still work or where to go to check? I would like to know before I make an investment on batteries/film/etc. (Texas based) I know one of them is a 250, but I cannot recall the exact models of the others.
Hey there, the only way that I have heard to test the Land Camera is to install a battery, cock the shutter, put your finger over the "electric eye" (light meter), which is located beside the lens, trip the shutter (you should hear a click), and then remove your finger from the electric eye (you should hear a second click). The second click means that the battery is good/working and that the light meter is working. Hope this helps.
The Packfilm ist starting vor ever in Vienna..Look Kickstarter.com..Packfilm!! Polaroid vor ever!!..
Just found a Polaroid J33 with case and flash bulbs. Any film for this bad boy?
Sorry, I don't have any experience with the J33.
Kyle McDougall found out the J33 has no more film to use. It's a nice camera.
My tripod mount thing is in a different spot...that seems like a weird thing to be different. I
I bought one yesterday in a thrift store for 5€. Im hoping it works but i think it does
May I ask where you get the film?
honestly i prefer packfilm to any other polaroid film. i really hate the way the bigger white border section looks on film from sx-70 film onwards.
can you do a video for the polaroid 430
430, not much of a difference, apart from the auto flash.
I got my Land Camera for 5 dollars at a yard sale. I didn’t even know it was this good. I just got it to put on my desk
These cameras are absolutely beautiful. But why would I get one, if the film will soon stop existing, and esp in my situation in which I live in a country where I can only get this camera and film from ebay and pay incredulous taxes for it? (*sighs* Greece). I wish I could get it knowing I'll have it for a long time. I was looking to get an analog camera but anything "new" on the market isnt worth it.
Where can I find the battery adapter? I've been scouring the internet and cannot find one that has the correct contact points for my Land Camera Automatic 103.
I’ve seen them on eBay before.
Now when I was little, I used to go to Northside
School, and once, we went swimming up at the Hubbard tank that was up in the hospital.
Mr.Dominice had the Polaroid camera with him, and I was very afraid of the camera, and the flash.
But Miss Carol was with me, and she told me that the camera would never hurt me at all.
But Mr.Dominice used
flash, which absolutely terrified and frightened me.
I cried and sobbed in Miss Carol's arms, because I was so afraid of the camera and the flash.
And the children teased me all about cameras and flashes.
"Hey, Mark, I got my
Instamatic with me!!
Look at, Mark,
it's a flash camera!"
a kid said to me.
Eddie Wilkes had a birthday party, and one of his presents was a camera.
"I was wrong when I said that my camera wasn't a flash camera.
It is a flash camera!!
It takes flashcubes!!
So ha, ha, ha, Weintraub, now I can
scare you to death, by
TAKING A FLASH PICTURE OF YOU, AND
MAKING THE FLASHCUBE GO OFF IN
YOUR FACE, WEINTRAUB!! SO HA,HA,HA!!" Eddie said.
"Flashcube cameras!!"
Keith said.
-Mark Weintraub.
Does it matter if the Fuji film expires 2015 when it is now 2020? So sad that I can't find recently dated film.
I'm trying to put a Kodak brownie hawkeye lens on a canon EOS M3 And I'm trying to figure out how to sucer it to the canon Do you have any suggestions
Sorry, no idea.
@@KyleMcDougall thanks for replying
I have one dude..cool
I got a 220 land camara polaroid full pack
If only they still made film for these lamd cameras :(
I have a mint condition automatic 230 land camera
Just checked price on Amazon...$149 per box (10 shots)!
Yep, not worth it anymore.
I definitely got lucky. I found my 360 polaroid in a basement when i moved into my first apartment 😆
this film is discontinued?? MAN WHADDOIDO
Buy oneinstant
Do you still get chances to shoot FP-100C?
No. the colour/,monochrome versions: no longer produced. Fuji is making Instax instead. Polaroid produces film for sx-70, 8x10 and 600 as well as 600 models.
Funny to watch this video today when one Box of fp-100c costs as much as the three packs used in this video :D
Just found an 800 from the 60s at my grandfathers house
Should I buy a Polaroid land 340 for 15$ NZ?
Film is getting really expensive and hard to find now. May not be worth it.
I've bought two Polaroid 100 Land cameras and both arrived with the battery connectors detached. Really pissed me off because both sellers stated they had battery tested the camera.
That's too bad. Sorry to hear. Are they fixable?
Kyle McDougall
Sorry for the late reply. Ebay allowed me to return both cameras to the sellers for a refund. I've since found an awesome seller on Etsy who goes by the name 20th Century Camera who knows how to modify the battery compartments (to use a CR2 or AA batteries) on Polaroid Land cameras and sells them. Definitely satisfied and love the camera. Wish there was some way to convince Fujifilm to continue making pack film because the results are amazing. I've signed a petition but not sure if that's gonna be effective.
it's a shame PO followed Fuji's lead and canned Spectra film. (I recently got into Spectra due to the discontinuation of the film...
"I got these for $25 each from B&H" /*cries in 2020 prices* S100 a box on ebay now.
So what was the answer? What was the best land camera?
many cameras you can shoot this film with, I have at least 10 ones I use for that type of film. You have to decide which one would be the best for you.
@@petepictures I am aware of that. I have a rigid body land camera and also a large format camera with a Fuji instant film back. My point was he did not really answer the question in the title.
