  • It's all mindgames on this planet of the week for SG-1. They are trapped, forced to relive their most traumatic experiences again and again, all for the amusement of the planet's denizens. But as usual, not all is as it seems. Join Jeff and Brent as they watch this episode, Jeff, for the the first time, and Brent, for the first time looking fo the sci-fi messages within.
And be sure to catch our main show, Babylon 5: For the First Time, when Brent is joined by Jeff to take a deep dive into the episode, searching for those Star Trek-like messages, and seeing if they should have watched it sooner. New Episodes drop on Mondays.

Jeff **is** a good guesser. He keeps coming up with plots for _Stargate_ episodes.
Just, not necessarily the _next_ episode.

Any issues with The Keeper's motivations, headcanon that he's a Time Lord. He's got the name, style, long life, and tech.

The acting is what really puts many of the episodes over the top. I love when Shanks gets to strut. I know it's far off, but episode Lifeboat is so great for that reason.
You guys make the best pair of SG reactors.

Dwight Schultz's acting is the biggest thing that makes this episode fun, and that's the reason I still like the ending...

6:35 - Exactly, Brent is 100% correct, around that time we were talking a lot about that, just check Pearl Jam's Do The Evolution video. Also, while this episode predates The Matrix, it doesn't predate Ghost in The Shell and a bunch of other cyberpunk media.

Fact is I am on Gamekeeper's side on this. Not on keeping SG1, but in not letting out the rest of the people. We spent short time with them but first thing they went with was "Ah new experience, cool!" instead of "Everything we destroyed is renewed! Let's do better this time." They have learned nothing.

I rather thought that the way Dwight Schultz played the character was a lot like Howling Mad Murdock from A-Team.
The bit about picking the flowers may have seemed lame, but if you think about an autistic person - that is a totally realistic reaction.

I always viewed it this way. The Keeper was both a guardian of the world as well as the lives that were on it it. He was to see to the recovery of the world as well as keeping the people safe. Over time he saw the two missions were in conflict so he kept the population entertained and content in the world so they would not harm the real world. In other words he went beyond what he was to do and violated being a keeper and instead kept them prisoners. He needed Sg1 to provide new ways to keep them entertained and content from escaping to the real world. Whether its a good episode or not that is what I think the plot is. To me it works but its an ok episode at the most.

Sometimes, when your two missions are in conflict, you act to kill off the crew and pilot the ship yourself to the rendevous with the monolith. Sometimes that is the best solution, and sometimes...

Maybe the Gatekeeper is not just plain evil, but stubborn and wrongheaded.
Protecting the planet is his job. The populace is kept linked, because there is no guarantee they won't damage the planet again. It's hard to say what he estimates the number would be. Having them in the simulation means there is no risk.
He has no idea the events Jack and Daniel are going through is trauma. Not evil; just.....horribly not understanding.

I enjoy the fact that the show does not tell you what to think. You might need to skip the Farscape series, it will drive you nuts ‘cause many times the episode starts in the middle of action and turns tropes on their head.

  •  День назад

Not the best episode but for The Keeper's motivation, he is just one of those crazy plant/gardener type of person, you know the people who will buy a new plant or 3 every week.
So he is nutso about protecting his garden and only cares about HIS garden.
He doesn't hate people, he just likes plants way more.

I loathe this episode.... I skip it on every watch through
I am left at the end of the episode 'Is this planet's 'year' equal to Earth's?' How long is 1022 of their years in Earth time? Not once did anyone on the team, who have literally been sent out in search of helpful technology, ask about this tech which 'seems' to have kept these people alive for over 1000 years. Like not even a question about it. For a show that has a history of paying homage to previous episode lore, and playing the long arc story game over seasons... this was an absolute crap-show in regards to the characters not acting as they would in most other episodes.
    It's just a dumb episode.

    • @marior.5796
      @marior.5796 12 часов назад

most likely the science and tech people who enginered and build this technology died 1022 years ago and the rich people did survive in this capsules and no one of them even knows how it works. Like people today don't know how a smartphone is build.

Don't feel bad about your guessing powers, there is two ways of looking at it one you are good at guessing the correct things 🫣, Or your guesses are good in the sense they are imaginative and highly detailed 🫡🎉 Definitely option 2, this time not withstanding lol..
