BTW, KDB "having a case" is an absolute rancid take. He literally defines the most dominant era ever in the PL. Your argument that he was not part of that first Man City era that won the league twice is lazy. Rooney was not part of the Cantona/Beckham era. Henry was not part of Tony Adams title winning 1997 team. Your argument that Aguero was THE DEFINING guy in the City team is BS. David Silva, Kompany and Yaya Toure were just as crucial. Lastly, "doing him a favor" by placing him at table 2 of the midfield tier list is the most ironic thing I've read in a while.

Acting like anyone other than Henry is undisputed is stupid. Rooney is insane and could easily make this. But KdB has more PL titles, more PL team of the seasons, more player of the season awards, has a better g+a per game ratio.... That alone is a huge case to put KdB on the mount rushmore. Probably the best player on a team that won 6 out of 7 league titles, which makes them the most dominant team in the PL ever.
Now I'm not saying those accolades are the be all end all. That would be stupid. But it paints a picture of a player who's been dominating the league for 10 years. That is something other candidates can't say.

  • @J_Tevo
    @J_Tevo 2 месяца назад +8

The whole point of a 'Mount Rushmore' style of debate, compared to a 'Four Best PL Players' debate, is that it's about what they did during their time/era. What do they represent? Are they the best representation of that time of the league with their qualifications? etc.
Thus there has to be a City player in there to represent the last decade of the Premier League. They're one of the most, if not THE most, dominate sides that the league has ever seen under Pep. Leading that era of dominance, as well as being the face of the club, Kevin De Bruyne HAS to be in there.
    For me, it's:
    Cantona - 1992/1997
    Henry - 1999/2007
    Rooney - 2004/2017
    KDB - 2015/Current Day

Lampard is a better goalscorer than KdB. But let's be real, the fact that Lampard took penalties makes it seem a bigger gap than it is. Without pens it becomes 106 goals vs KdB's 65 with well over 300 games more played.
In my opinion goal scoring should always be looked at without penalties first. in 2008/2009 Lampard scored 12 goals whilst the following season he scored 22. A ridiculous number for a midfielder. So he just suddenly became a far better goal scorer? Or did he just attempt 11 penalties that season compared to the 2 the season before? I think we all know the answer. Penalty goalscoring is not something you can rely on every game. It is not a "strategy" or a "game plan" to score loads of goals. One season you might attempt 9 and another season you'll attempt none. In game goalscoring can be far more easily manipulated. Getting in the right positions and having a great shot makes it so that every game you know there will be a chance of scoring.
Strayed of my original point, but wanted to say this for a while haha.

Also, when it comes to scoring penalties I see it as an additional trade of a footballer (you have heading, movement, iq and pens for example). So it has to be taken as an overall positive for a player, not something that downgrades him compared to others. So why was KDB never on pens? He probably lacks that ability compared to some of the other players on that man city team (not saying he is a bum pen taker ofc)

    • @thomaswilliam4015

@@danielvodicka5324 Little disclaimer: It's actually 134 non penalty goals. Somehow i forgot to add his west ham years haha. Which makes the gap quite big. What i would say is that a peak Lampard would give you about 8-12 non penalty goals a season. For de Bruyne it's about 8 with far more outliers in both directions. Lampard is over KdB in goalscoring for me as well. But i just think the gap isn't as big as people like to believe.
If you're gonna compare two players in all kinds of aspects and one has much better longevity that means that these total stats will always go in one direction. Longevity is a huge part of being a great player so I count that so highly. But if you're then also gonna use total stats you're kind of using longevity for every argument.
In my opinion if one has better longevity than you should then compare players over a (for example) 6-8 year stretch. While obviously keeping longevity in mind. Lewy probably clears Ronaldo Nazario in every total statistic, but R9 was undoubtedly better.

    • @thomaswilliam4015
      @thomaswilliam4015 2 месяца назад +3

@@danielvodicka5324 About pens, I can see where you're coming from. However we all say: "Imagine Drogba was on penalties in 09/10!" Lyes included. Yes it's a trait, but it's not one where only a single player on a team would be able to convert at a high clip.
For example: Ronaldo pretty much took every penalty for Madrid. On that same team they had Benzema (31 out of 36 penalties scored in his career), Ramos (22 out of 23 scored) and Modric (10 out of 10 scored). Ronaldo is better than these players. If Ronaldo would have gone down injured for a season at Madrid they would struggle to score goals, but not because they suddenly would convert penalties at a 40% clip.

Why do people not respect what city have done. They are the most dominant club english football has ever seen and their talisman and best player is KDB. He has put up 15-35 GA from CAM too many times been too good for too long for people to act as if he isnt the best midfielder in prem history.
How many prem titles? How many trophies? Prem Assist record, best GA/90 from midfield in prem history,
Truth is KDB is the modern day Henry. Stupid eye test, Stupid stats, Face of the league for years. The difference is he has 3x the prem trophies Henry has and didnt leave to go and win trophies in his prime.
If we think from an Era standpoint
Shearer Henry Rooney KDB these guys are the faces of their respective eras of the prem.
About 5-8 years between each of their peaks and they are the faces of those generations.

Henry - Arguably the greatest player in league history
Ronaldo - Best player, biggest superstar, and biggest transfer (2021) in league history
KDB - best and most consistently available member of the best dynasty in league history
4th spot is either Rooney or Terry just off their contributions to so many league titles

I'm an older viewer. I was about 11 when the PL started and I'd have the following: Thierry Henry, Roy Keane, John Terry, KDB.
It's players who have played for four different teams, all dominant in their peak, different positions and crucial to the culture in their clubs. I don't like having 4 strikers but that might be personal preference.
The reason I'm not including Aguero is because I think many strikers in that era could've had a similar goalscoring rate if they were being supplied by KDB, David Silva, Bernardo Silva etc. Shearer, Schmeichel, Rooney, Scholes & Giggs are unlucky to miss out.

Just wanted to point out in 5:52 that it’s a lie that has circulated for years that Henry scored a free kick, they called him back to retake and he scored again. What happened was a fast free kick he attempted to take and the ref called it back. It s was noticed in previous games that he likes to take quick free kicks and potentially score from it so the ref spotted that

Thanks for mentioning Bergkamp. Somebody had to do it. Mount Rushmore is based on men who changed the course of the country, in anyway shape or form. Dennis Bergkamp made English fans look at football in a different way, before players like David Silva and Fabregas did it. Before Bergkamp Arsenal was called “boring Arsenal” for their style of play and kick and rush. Bergkamp came with technique, vision, skills and art. If it wasn’t for him and Cantona, we would still be looking at a league with long balls, strong and tall strikers and defenders who got their teeth knocked out. And when he came in, people said he wasn’t suited for the Premier League. Instead, he changed the Premier League. I don’t mind him being left out, but people should remember the league before he came in.

I get the KDB vs Agüero argument, I think it comes down personal preference in terms of how you want to build your Mount Rushmore. If you want to put the four best players, then yeah De Bruyne probably gets in there. But when you are thinking iconic and the story of the premier league like you Lyes want to go off of, KDB doesn’t scream to me. When I think of this modern era of City dominance across the last decade or so, I don’t think of KDB, I think of Pep or Agüero so I get it. Going off of those standards I’d probably pick Henry, Rooney, Agüero, and Cantona, with Giggs and Ronaldo narrowly missing out

I think people don't understand how much of an icon Cantona was in the first 5 years of the prem and not only for United he lay the foundations for all of the foreign players to come into the league over the next years (Zola, Bergkamp). And tbf a Mount Rushmore should only have players from the first 10-20 years of the Prem. You could just about make an argument for the Terry/Rooney generation but after that meh.
