First guy who’s actually saying that Bellingham also deserved it. Crazy how he carried Madrid in the first half of the season n people ignore it bcuz he didn’t score in the UCL later stages. Vini was nowhere near as instrumental at any one point during the season. Shame how Carlo didn’t even think him in his story!
As a madridista Bellingham deserved it so much more than Vini did. Media ran a hate campaign on Jude around April/May and really picked it up at the euros. and the way he plays doesn’t help with ppl’s “eye test”, but if we look at a season as a whole, start to finish he was the most impactful player of the year imo. It just feels like Madrid fans rallied behind the guy with more seniority at their club instead of looking at our success objectively.
Yeah, he even performed at the Euros, got an assist in the final. He got an assist in the CL final too. I'm sure he would have won it if he won the Euros.
As a Liverpool fan who's been raving about this guy for the good part of three years now I can tell you absolutely, this man is a world class manager. He's gonna get United back to the top.
After Messi won it over Haaland last year i stopped taking this award too seriously. Still the biggest individual achievement but not the end of the world
Ye even as a Messi fan without bias. If it’s truly voted for the best player over the full season, Haaland should’ve won. It was given to Messi because of the narrative which tbf would more than likely give him the ballon dor anyway in most years but Haaland was a freak. Maybe Haalands big game track record let him down. But ye the criteria is getting poorer and poorer.
Who cares about who came 23rd in the the 2024 Ballon D'or. People just care about winners, and Rodri is a valid one. There should be more outrage over some previous Ballon D'or winners instead.
I think another problem is how the people voting only vote for the top 10, so players like grimaldo wont feature on anyones list because hes not top 10, but if they were to do a whole list, they would rank him higher. Similar for players like olmo who are so high because some of the voters seem to only have watched the euros, whilst if they made everyone do a whole list, the majority of the other voters would have had him much further down
The Ballon D'Or is and has always been total rubbish. Have you seen the voting panel? There's like a journalist from EVERY FIFA country, which is a joke.
@@kurtsudheim825 I'm not surprised, it's always been rubbish. Journalists in Azerbaijan and Rwanda decide the Ballon D'Or? Do they even get coverage of all of the games there?
International tournaments always have a massive impact on the voting. In 2018, messi had the most goals, assists and trophies, yet finished 5th due to Argentina's disappinting world cup
@yemi3266 during 2010-2015, the voting criteria was different. International captains and coaches also had a vote. They usually vote for the best individual player, so the majority of them voted Messi or Ronaldo. Sneijder actually won the journalist vote in 2010 as did ribery in 2013. In 2019, Brazil won the Copa, Dani alves was player of the tournament, but he was playing in Brazil at the time which affected him. Van dijk won the UCL, but it's difficult for a defender to beat a forward who scored more than 50 goals and had 20 plus assists. There wasn't any outstanding candidate for the award. Messi individually was the best
@LoyalFan9383 Wow. You must really hate Messi. It doesn't matter what you think, the people who voted for the award thought he should win, therefore he has 8. Accept it and move on
I don't mind them placing a lot of value in international competitions but it deff is inconsistent. Also feels unfair to any non--European players since they clearly value Euros way more than Afcon, Copa America, etc.
please be real. hes great this season but last season he wasnt this good. he had like 12 non penalty goals last seasons and took chelsea to the conference league
@ he had a great individual year, what’s the criteria ? Are this is an individual award and team achievements are more important ? A lot of these players had moments and that’s the reason they’re on this list
@ NOOOO he took Chelsea to the Europa league, look at the league table. Chelsea are only in the conference league because of non league reasons. He had the most goal contributions in the prem, had a tone of great individual moments, impacted the euros more than anyone else for England (except for Saka I’d say they’re even) and he carried a poor Chelsea team. He should be higher
Rodri didn't make the UCL team of the tournament and didn't even get NOMINATED for Premier League player of the year. And I'm supposed to believe this guy is the best player in the world? 😂
You understand football, and you're a smart guy; so how does it not occur to you that the way the journalists rank these players is the same way we all do: through a combination of all the criteria. You ask is it numbers or performances or narrative or national tournaments? The answer is all the above, just like how you look at all the above when judging player to player. As for the international tournaments being given a bigger weight respectively to their durations, hasn't it always been like this? Old gen players' reputations were built on a single world class world cup campaign, because *way* more people watch the international tournaments than club football, which means-whether we find it fair or not- they have the biggest weight on player perception and image.
Exactly. I think for players like Salah, KDB, VVD etc, you need a special reason to exclude them. They don't suddenly become shit players even if they don't receive much silverware. On the other hand, for players that only show up for a big game (Olmo, Lookman), they should at least have a great season elsewhere to be considered.
@@sdm_za that's my point. Salah had an average season by his standards, but he is still twice the footballer Lookman, Olmo or last season Yamal are. His lack of silverware should disqualify him from any of the higher spots, but he should still have been included in the list.
@darreltan1694 real talk man. All the players you mentioned I agree, especially Salah and I'm a city fan. This dude had a great season it's only considered average because it's Salah.

I like lyes take on this ,it reminds me of 2006 when Samuel etoo was the best player and World Cup happened Cannavaro, zindane ,Henry ,Ronaldinho finished ahead of him
To win the balon d'or you need to be at least one of these 3: 1. Be spanish 2. Play for a spanish team 3. Be a forward If Rodri was Dutch and played for Bayern Munich, he probably would have finished 6th
For me- Rodri deserved number 1. Kane should’ve been higher. Foden should’ve been higher. Palmer should’ve been significantly higher. Emi Martinez and Dani Olmo should’ve been lower. Important to remember, it’s just journalists voting though, it’s not the ultimate authority on who the best player in the world is, and it’s unlikely there’s any overall agenda within the overall number of journalists who vote. Vini’s performances were amazing in the UCL, but he’s not exactly put up the Messi numbers you would think based on the reaction and the shouts of robbery.
I’m sorry but foden should be lower, don’t get me wrong he had a great season last year but he absolutely stunk out the euros (which judging by caravajal being 4th is showing that international comp is a big thing in this years ballondor)

unpopular opinion and people might laugh: the ballon d'or is only taken as seriously as it is because of how iconic the trophy is. If it looked like the trophy they give for 'the best', people/ players wouldn't care nearly as much
agree with everything except the take on carvajal, that man will be instrumental in any team. He's imo one of the best fullbacks in world football, he creates goals, sometimes scores (UCL final goal and motm), and his workrate in defense is outrageous. I think it's great they recognize Rodri's contribution and brilliance (always wanted players other than attackers to win) but I feel like it was for the wrong reasons because they find Rodri a more presentable/acceptable and universally loved winner, whereas Vini has become an increasingly polarizing personality for many people
22:43 THANK YOU LYES!! THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT. For the longest time I have been telling people that from the inception of FIFA's World Player of the Year in 1991, that was the most prestigious footballing award, not L'Equipe's Ballon D'Or. Loads of people don't even know that the Ballon D'Or was created in 1956 by French Magazine L'Equipe and until 1995, only players from European nationalities playing in Europe was eligible to win the award. Thats why Diego Maradona did not win any Ballon D'Ors in the 1980s because he was an Argentinian, a South American, playing in Europe. So does that mean Michel Platini or Marco Van Basten are better players all time than Diego Maradona because they won multiple Ballon D'Or for being French and Dutch respectively while Maradona was not eligible for being Argentine? Do anyone have doubts because of this that Maradona was not the best player of the 80s? Like Lyes says, "Lets be logical now." And another thing that confuses people is that they dont know that in 2009, FIFA and France football merged both the FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon D'Or to create FIFA Ballon D'Or and then split again in 2016 as FIFA created their own award known as the FIFA Best Player of the Year while Ballon D'Or award. Some people still think that FIFA is the one behind the Ballon D'Or awards which has not been true since 2016.

Anybody arguing that vini should have won ballon d'or over Rodri can't produce 1 legitimate reason other than UCL. Had horrible copa America campaign, missed quarter of the season due to injury and had few decent-good performances in the league. Meanwhile, Rodri was so crucial to city winning the league that the only games city lost were the ones in which rodri didn't play. Had he not played his role, we (arsenal) would have deffo won the league. Not to mention the fact that he was crucial to Spain's campaign at the euros as well. Absolute jokers.
People complaining about Lookman but fine about Olmo and Yamal both of the them cannot touch top 15 .Lookman had a better season than both they just performed in the Euros
the fact that revolts is precisely that the euro out of nowhere has more importance than the Copa América and the champions league, a championship that encompasses only a portion of the world's football players cannot have more weight than a champions league where the best players really are , this to me shows how this criterion was invented to not give the ballon d or to Vini, it was clear that vini bothers uefa.

I do agree, but that is almost every major sports award (MVP) which I guess is what the ballon d'or is equivalent to in American sports. Though I do think the award is flawed in how it is voted on and the criteria is quite inconsistent. Though I do think it very hard to award and should try to be improved but it is always going to be a subjective thing to an extent. Players play different positions, different leagues, different national teams, and more which is hard to quantify.

Winning International trophy is the biggest dream for every player.....and lautaro martinez was a super sub in copa america thats why he is rated low....
bro, international team is nice, but erling halaand, has virtually no chance. should be club team ucl, league, and then national team, by the way national tournaments are not even played that frequently my 0.02
It’s sad for haaland,
He needs to crush this season to win it. If it’s a World Cup or euro year he has slim chances. Hoping that odegaard gets fit so that they can atleast reach the round of 16. Once they’re there, and with haaland probably wining prem and could win ucl. He’ll win the ballonD’or
Shoulda been above mbappe and haaland at least
First guy who’s actually saying that Bellingham also deserved it. Crazy how he carried Madrid in the first half of the season n people ignore it bcuz he didn’t score in the UCL later stages. Vini was nowhere near as instrumental at any one point during the season. Shame how Carlo didn’t even think him in his story!
Belligham was flying first half of the season. Clutch and consistent

No shirt sherlock, that's how it works. How are you surprised

International tournaments always have a massive impact on the voting. In 2018, messi had the most goals, assists and trophies, yet finished 5th due to Argentina's disappinting world cup
Yet he won it in 2019, 2011, 2010.

I don't mind them placing a lot of value in international competitions but it deff is inconsistent. Also feels unfair to any non--European players since they clearly value Euros way more than Afcon, Copa America, etc.

palmer is STILL somehow so underrated
Facts how is he this low ? Ridiculous
please be real. hes great this season but last season he wasnt this good. he had like 12 non penalty goals last seasons and took chelsea to the conference league
Carvajal some how only got 4th when He won it all
Rodri didn't make the UCL team of the tournament and didn't even get NOMINATED for Premier League player of the year. And I'm supposed to believe this guy is the best player in the world? 😂
The whole argument for him is consistency and they act like everyone in the top 10 wasn’t ridiculously consistent
I just realised do you think deco look at the euros then decided to get Dani olmo in
Salah didn't have that good of a season. Only won a Carabao Cup, and disappeared after the Afcon
@@sdm_za that's my point. Salah had an average season by his standards, but he is still twice the footballer Lookman, Olmo or last season Yamal are. His lack of silverware should disqualify him from any of the higher spots, but he should still have been included in the list.

I thought it was outrageous that Rodri won over Vini and Jude, but wow, this is really bad. Someone needs to expose who voted for this absurdity!
And why is it outrageous ?? VIni missed more than quarter of a season. Had decent-good performances in the league. Was the best player in UCL. But what did he do for NT? That's right, f all. In fact, Rodrygo and raphihna had better copa performances than vini. Coming to Jude, excellent start to the season. Horrible UCL campaign and fell off tail end of the season in the league. Didn't do much at the euros except for the overhead kick.
Meanwhile, Rodri has been consistently putting in 8/10 performances on the pitch. He was so crucial to city winning the league that the only games city lost were the ones in which Rodri didn't play. So tell me?? why is it outrageous for Rodri to win ?
Outrageous ? Seriously ?

Yaya Toure has to be in the conversation for one of the best City players of all time
Harry Kane deserves to be here and possibly Guirassy for being 2nd highest Bundesliga goal scorer and helping Stuttgart finish 2nd in the Bundesliga.
Lookman was arguably Nigeria’s best player in the afcon, he was also the best player in a Europa league winning team, as well as a Hattrick in the final against the almighty Leverkusen, he deserves at least 14th spot
19:12 no, but it has a strong case of being the best individual season in our club's history also u cant say greatest player oat based of him jus winning the ballon d'or cause other players had they're best szn with much more competition making it wayyy harder for them to win it
Wirtz should've been top 10 and Lautaro at 3rd
So true, Foden was our mvp last yr even more than rodri, but rodri deserves it cuz of euros. Foden>Haaland last yr tho

It's the worst balon d or short list in history
I wouldn't go that far
Messi won it when he was 22. Lamal is barely 17 and is number 8! wild
To win the balon d'or you need to be at least one of these 3:
1. Be spanish
2. Play for a spanish team
3. Be a forward
If Rodri was Dutch and played for Bayern Munich, he probably would have finished 6th
For me-
Rodri deserved number 1.
Vini’s performances were amazing in the UCL, but he’s not exactly put up the Messi numbers you would think based on the reaction and the shouts of robbery.
i want to say one thing. the world doesn't revolve around chelsea and england buddy. palmer wasn't even in europe so his position is justified.

Martinez at 7 is just crazy
unpopular opinion and people might laugh: the ballon d'or is only taken as seriously as it is because of how iconic the trophy is. If it looked like the trophy they give for 'the best', people/ players wouldn't care nearly as much
There's no criteria. The ballon d'or Is basically just a popularity contest among the journalists who were chosen to vote
Lautaro should be the winner
agree with everything except the take on carvajal, that man will be instrumental in any team.
Like Lyes says, "Lets be logical now."
And another thing that confuses people is that they dont know that in 2009, FIFA and France football merged both the FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon D'Or to create FIFA Ballon D'Or and then split again in 2016 as FIFA created their own award known as the FIFA Best Player of the Year while Ballon D'Or award. Some people still think that FIFA is the one behind the Ballon D'Or awards which has not been true since 2016.

Anybody arguing that vini should have won ballon d'or over Rodri can't produce 1 legitimate reason other than UCL. Meanwhile, Rodri was so crucial to city winning the league that the only games city lost were the ones in which rodri didn't play. the fact that revolts is precisely that the euro out of nowhere has more importance than the Copa América and the champions league, a championship that encompasses only a portion of the world's football players cannot have more weight than a champions league where the best players really are , this to me shows how this criterion was invented to not give the ballon d or to Vini, it was clear that vini bothers uefa.
