It doesn't get near as cold where I'm from, and I wear way more in winter 🤣
Well its not actually that cold there for them its just the conditions make snowfall more common so they’d probably be fine with a slightly thicker jacket

I remember in Hokkaido in winter I saw girls walking around in dresses while and my friend were fully covered in snow gear. They’re stronger than us

I think video quality doesn't effect much of our viewing from time to time, but when you watch an Abroad in Japan video you really notice the quality of filming. Every scene that Chris shoots in-between the vlog looks like movie quality. Thank you for what you do

Takeaway points: I want Chris to organise my Japan holiday activities, and the Japanese Government should probably be paying Chris and Connor a tourism advertising fee.

It breaks my heart that this was demonetized. You can tell all of the time, effort, and care Chris put into it. Having watched all of his videos, this was one of the most enjoyable ones yet. I have watched this several times over, and can’t for the life of me see anything remotely offensive.

I'm just rewatching this video and realized how incredible the shot at 19:19 is. The monkey was just minding its own business and then smiled at the camera.

Honestly couldn’t help but smile seeing Connor genuinely enjoy himself that much at the monkey park. So wholesome. And that place just looked so surreal. The mixture of comedy and depth with those shots and narration at the monkey park was just awesome. I’m a huge fan of this series.

I worked at Jigokudani monkey park for 3 months researching their behaviour, and studied macaques in Japan for a year.
I made some friends with guides at the park and others, and apparently monkeys had been spotted in completely different areas of Nagano bathing in peoples private hot springs, super far from the park. No one had them tagged so they weren't sure whether they were monkeys from the park or just random monkeys that had discovered the behaviour on their own, but nonetheless interesting.
Japanese macaques do have a lot of interesting cultural behaviours; bathing, food washing, stone handling.
Also, if you get the chance to go study in Japan for whatever reason, don't hesitate, it's amazing

This is kinda the quintessential Abroad in Japan video for me. Wacky start at Doai Station, beautiful ryokan, goofy sake vending machines, majestic snow monkeys and a nice epilogue getting food in the snow before dinner and a bath. All of this amazing content with two great hosts!

There's something so serene in this video and sense of calmness in that town which actually made me shed a tear. Places like this on earth is what makes it so special and one day i will definitely visit these places.

The “room of nothing” is probably for ski gear. Here in Italy most hotels in the alps have them.
I don't think they would approve of bringing your wet ski gear in your room. My guess would also be on suitcases

honestly this now my favorite video from your channel. it wasn't even about japan that made it good to me. I used to live in Utah for most of my life and there's alaways good amount of snow for almost half a year at times. so seeing this videos with all the snow and mountians made it very home like to me. In short im very home sick.

But to answer your question, the monkeys have no problem getting in or out of the hot spring. In fact, they seem to enjoy being in the hot spring.

Actually the Ski resorts supply special bathrobes for the monkeys.
@@jiajuxu2504 their fur is properly rather water proofed and it's not completely soaked through. They also have thicker skin to help insulate as well.

I visited the snow monkey five years ago in Spring.
Took the wrong way and used the street to get up there. Felt really dumb.
But wow, it was really worth it.
The monkeys were calm and just did their thing.
They took baths, drank water and i even saw a Mama Monkey carry its child.
It was beautiful and ill never in my life forget the time.
I hope, i can visit it again.

Chris, my former Tokyo International University colleagues and I have a story about that terrifying train station. We all took a hike up Tanigawa and almost died. We should have known this would be the result when our trip started at that Station from Hell which was even creepier in 2018 when we were there. There were no kawaii items in the station, just dread. And oh btw there's a monument to all those who have died on Tanigawa not far from that train station. 😰
