The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

One of the very first 45s given to me as a child. I fondly recall Nipper the RCA dog spinning on my turntable while listening to this marvelous song.
Oh, I fondly recall looking at the "RCA dog" as well (as he spun around) - I never knew that he was called "Nipper." Well, I guess we are never too old to learn new things ;-) Cheers to all!

Dont' figure out my age, but I heard this almost every other day back in 1958. Catchy song.
Dámaso Pérez Prado, nicknamed "the king of mambo", was one of my dad's favorite musicians, who in his youth danced and enjoyed all these "hot" rhythms. Pérez Prado did not invent the mambo but he was the creator of the mambo in the form we know it, with great influence from jazz, and he was its greatest international promoter. "Patricia" was one of his most beloved and successful mambos.
This was #1 on the Cashbox chart the same week as this performance.
I remember this song being a hit record. Judging from the performance date, I was 6 years old. During that time, I was invited to a birthday party for a girl named Patricia, and my mother and I considered buying this record for her as a present. But my mother decided not to because it was an instrumental. In recent years, I have found vocal versions of this song here on RUclips.
This wonderful tune was everywhere, even in Fellini's "La Dolca Vita."

"Patricia" charted at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1958 (number 8 in the UK, number 1 on the R&B chart, number 18 on the Country chart). Written by Perez Prado & Bob Marcucci. @@that70sgirl90 You are so kind, thank you so much! Unfortunately, grandfather hasn't been doing well for the last month and is in the hospital with some health issues. It's been an extremely rough time, and this is one reason I haven't been commenting as much on this channel. Let's hope and pray that better times will return someday.
@TomElvisSmith Tom, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I will certainly keep him in my thoughts and prayers. I have only been on a few times since the end of December. My mom passed away on December 30th. She made it through Christmas, but sadly, she passed away before the New Year. The past year was a real struggle for me. I would get her over one thing, and then another would happen. She just gave up. I was struggling to keep her going. When I watch videos from this channel, I think of my childhood when my parents were both still here. I hope one day I will be able to come back. For now, the memories are just too painful.
