Just so everyone knows, we are a church choir from Texas. The band was just getting everyone hyped with secular songs before we performed. Lenny overheard it and came down to sing with us. It was the most amazing performance we ever had because the crowd that came because they heard Lenny stayed and watched us perform. It was incredible. Lenny left shortly after but the fact that he came down to play with us and sing with us was just amazing. It wasn't set up beforehand or anything. We didn't even know that he was in New Orleans or that he was around.
i never thought that for even a second, famous musicians all around the world hear their music or just music they like and join in on it all the time, great video and im jealous you got to meet lenny, a story to tell for a lifetime i tell ya'
True Observation This video was made 8 years ago, the drummer has either stopped playing or gotten much better I wouldn't worry about it if I were you...
If you could see in the beginning, he was clapping in a different rhythm. I think he might have jumped on the drums to get them in the pocket. He wanted them to groove in.
He knew that drum cadence by heart and knew how to get them in on it. Once he was singing he was following their rhythm instead of pushing it his way. Classy
I have cousins who live in the Bahamas and are neighbors with Lenny Kravitz, and from personal experience I can say that Lenny is the coolest most down to earth musician on the scene. He plays at a local bar with the Bahamian musicians nearly every night, and is friendly with every single person to walk in. Truly a spectacular individual.
If you don’t LOVE this video, then you clearly don’t love (or understand the reason for) music. I watch this video frequently and it just puts me in the best mood
well, the boy was part of the band and his role was to play with the band, then Lenny came and his role was to do a drum solo. They were in different roles.
Such a gentleman, and class act. Thank you for making a wonderful memory for these young musicians . What a treat for them. Lenny, you are a class act! Xx
Kicked off the drums? If it was me, I would have been thrilled. My eyes and soul would have been a sponge absorbing more levels and styles of drumming to grow my mastery of them. They would have also been filled with joy and thankfulness of the opportunity.
That´s why I love this man... He just fully concentrates on the music and enjoys every moment and how everyone participates...and he makes people sing and dance and enjoy... He doesn't care about fame, he just wants to achieve the unity of all the people there.
I saw Lenny play Jazz Fest once, somewhere around 1999, or so. He played a few songs before addressing the crowd, letting everyone know he had the flu and was struggling. The band was playing was still playing while he was talking...and he very simply said, "If you help me sing them, I'll keep playing them." The crowd lit up like I have never seen. It was one of the purest moments I think I'd ever witnessed. Such a simple, honest request from a great performer....and everyone, and I mean everyone, sang with Lenny that day. I will always remember that show.
My son was three years old and this was his favorite song danced and sing to it every time he heard it...Lenny Kravitz is the best!!!! My son is 19teen now....
This is one of the great things about living in New Orleans. We all know that the music comes first. Performers like Lenny can walk around and not get hounded by random people bugging him for a picture and an autograph. Music is what binds our city together.
It's one of a few places I'd really love to spend a few nights. From europe, it always seemed like New Orleans has been like "Meh, fuck it, we'll just keep doing it like we did back in the 60s" :D
The kids name is Mike Smeaton from North Texas I understand and he is real promising. I hope someone could hire him as a guitar player 'cause he deserves it. Lenny you are a gentleman and true to the meaning of an artist bro!
Most rockstar moment in history... Sitting on a terrace, drinking & eating - hear an entire quire and band, down the street, playing your stuff - then walk up to the drum kit, take over, and proceed to kill it - all with your sunglasses on. I'm surprised the man didn't hand the sticks back off to the drummer, and fly off in a helicopter.
An amazing experience for all of you. I can only imagine the moment for each of you when the realization hit you that the guy in front of you is Kravitz. What a coincidence
I've been a Lenny fan for years. Used to sing "Lady" to my fiancée when we were courting. Love is something you can just feel in his music. Seeing this video did not surprise me at all but it definitely warmed my heart and confirmed what I've always believed. That Lenny is as amazing in real life as he is on the airwaves...Much love to you Lenny Kravitz for making these kids lives better by this experience.
Wow!!! Probably one of the best days in their lives! Lenny Kravitz, great job, you showed these people singing is all about feeling and enjoying what you do, such an inspiration!
The very best thing about this event is the memories and the joy it surely brought to the kids in the kids in the choir. Definitely a moment they will never forget.
just, wow. What a musician and great guy. Those kids are never going to forget that! Kinda feels like Lenny is that band teacher that can sit in and play the heck out of literally any instrument.
Complete class all the way around... not like some of the latter years rock stars who have left their fans for fortune and fame and forgot where their roots really are... Lenny is just plain awesome!
I love Lenny Kravitz! And it was great having your band in New Orleans! Yall sound great--after all, you got the attention of Lenny Kravitz, right!!! :) I've saved this video for years and I love to come back and watch it over and over.
Really cool, Lenny. I'm sure those kids will remember this for the rest of their lives and it will inspire some of them to pursue their musical aspirations. Thanks for being that guy that gave something back. In an era when some would expect a superstar to ignore it and stay up there on that balcony, you did the fun thing and threw yourself in the mix. Great stuff!
Gives me chills every time. Lenny and others who do this taking the time to make a memory for these kids that will last a lifetime. That's what it's all about
He plays all the instruments. We hardly get to see how talented some of these artists really are!! I have goosebumps. How cool and MANY that kid on guitar!! I hope he’s somewhere still playing
Lenny's friend asks for the name at the end, he's Mike Smeaton: www.modernsoundstudio.com/our-instructors/ "Michael has played with such names as Lenny Kravitz" :D I wish him the best.
talent is irrelevant in the music business. it's marketability. compositional skill and performing abilities are lost arts. audio technology can easily make anybody sound like anything else.
chaveznieves I have to agree for the most part but I remember (for one example) when "Chasing Pavements" came out in '08 I didn't even know what Chasing Pavements meant but what everyone became to know as Adele put anyone in their place as far as talent, chops and an amazing voice. And she actually has a great personality. You don't find that often.
Still one of the coolest videos on the internet.
Besides being an incredible singer musician, he didn’t try to up-stage the guitar dude who was excellent. Lenny a class gent!!
Amen
I happened upon him and them in the Quarter that day...one of the best days ever.
Lenny says I’m gonna join in and jam with these kids, so cool!
Just so everyone knows, we are a church choir from Texas. The band was just getting everyone hyped with secular songs before we performed. Lenny overheard it and came down to sing with us. Emily Antus i can only imagine what you guys felt to have a king himself sing with you...love from Africa. Keep up making America great
True Observation
This video was made 8 years ago, the drummer has either stopped playing or gotten much better
I wouldn't worry about it if I were you...
That was so awesome! Made y'alls day for sure!
God is good
still come back here more than a decade later. this will live forever
sorry but the quality is atrocious.
Same!
Guitar player is the highlight of this video. Absolutely killed it.
Too bad the choir drummer was.........
that's why i always wanted to learn to play guitar
seriously ? Did you hear guitarist sing ? No soul , then Lenny ripped it .. Lenny also plays many instruments , much like Kid Rock , both geniuses .
@@MrGolfpimp42 it's not a competition, you freak. They both nailed it, and the guitarist was beyond good
@@MrGolfpimp42 Lol do you seriously expect the amateur choirboy to sing as well as Lenny Kravitz? Why even try to compare.
The kid playing guitar is GREAT! Wonder what he's doing now, 10 years later? Love you Lenny!
So much fun for these kids to have a legend show up out of no where and play with them. They will never forget this moment
When Lenny got on the drums it’s like the band came alive and you could hear every instrument. He killed it.
Classy
I've never seen this before. So cool!
And so cool of Lenny not to want to overshadow the singer until he asked him to sing, and Lenny obliged.
Lenny gave those kids a moment in time that they will ALWAYS remember.
No pressure for the young guy on the guitar....handled it like a freakin pro though, respect from Australia.
I have cousins who live in the Bahamas and are neighbors with Lenny Kravitz, and from personal experience I can say that Lenny is the coolest most down to earth musician on the scene. Bom saber! Eu tbmmmmm✨
The energy completely changed when Lenny hopped on those drums.
Fair fucks to the kid for trying to claim his drums back after Kraviz was finished
well, the boy was part of the band and his role was to play with the band, then Lenny came and his role was to do a drum solo. They were in different roles.
Yep. No doubt it was really Lenny once he started banging those drums.
Lenny is a class act and made these kids day.
life
Lenny is the epitome of coolness, it doesn't matter what he is doing he is cool doing it
Lenny thank you for being so down to earth and making a wonderful day for these young people.
Mark Green I agree completely. Other artist would probably think it's beneath them.
@@programmedwrong3795 They all started doing this...
Lenny knew not to take that guitar away from that kid! :)
Such a gentleman, and class act. Thank you for making a wonderful memory for these young musicians . What a treat for them. Lenny, you are a class act! Xx
There will NEVER be anyone cooler than Mr Lenny Kravitz!
For me in the race for coolness top 3 are...
1) Slash
2) Lenny Kravitz
3) Joe Perry from Aerosmith
Lena Redhead still badass to this day
Except the guitar player there.
Guitar guy is a close second, the solo was gnarly
One of my favorite videos on youtube. Every few months I come back and I click on it.
This, right here... Is America. 👍🗽
Lenny gave these kids an unforgettable experience. Hats off to him, so humble.
1:18 to be able to say I was the guy who got kicked off the drums by Lenny Kravitz.
Who was the guitar player?
Wow thats a moment 😂
Do u by chance know the guitarist?
Curtis hahahah
Kicked off the drums? If it was me, I would have been thrilled. My eyes and soul would have been a sponge absorbing more levels and styles of drumming to grow my mastery of them. They would have also been filled with joy and thankfulness of the opportunity.
The boy kicked off the drums doesn’t even look 18. Your RUclips picture looks to be around 40,
That´s why I love this man... He just fully concentrates on the music and enjoys every moment and how everyone participates...and he makes people sing and dance and enjoy... He doesn't care about fame, he just wants to achieve the unity of all the people there.
How can you not love Lenny?! He's just given these kids the time of their lives!
As soon as Lenny gets on the drums everything changes ..love it

So amazing - you're just singing away in your choir and the ACTUAL ARTIST turns up and takes part. Literally a once in a lifetime event - amazing!
Lenny you just made 52 year old happy. This has made my day. Xx
Moved to tears.....beautiful, spiritual, community moment! LOVE IT!!!
My son was three years old and this was his favorite song danced and sing to it every time he heard it...Lenny Kravitz is the best!!!! My son is 19teen now....
he was sitting on his terrace when he heard some strange music" His place is 1/2 mile away...his friend called him and told him what was going on
Damn that crowd got HUGE. Lenny is amazing. And the kid on the guitar was awesome.
This Man was made to bring the Gift of music to the People.
+ freakin 1
+Ryan Kelly yeah, he is so gifted and so awesome!
This video proves that it's essential we preserve our humanity. Shout out to the cool kids and mr. Lenny Kravitz!

SO glad he asked that kids name, he has talent on that guitar! This is just plain awesome, wish so many other celebs could or would be this humble!
Sixto Rodriguez ;-)
Thank you :)
Lenny Kravitz you are an amazing person... This was phenomenal... The dude on the guitar was wrecking it... I loved everything about this video!!!
That's one of the most awesome and amazing live performances EVER recorded! Goosebumps!
Always love watching this video

+Alex K according to the bible.. he's going to heaven
+diulaylomo Really dude??? you gotta bring religion into this?
+STLOU87 Chill, it's a joke. The mere mention of religion gets people worked up nowadays.
***** There is nothing you can't say or do that doesn't offend someone in 2015.
Back looking this video up, over a decade later.
This is still my favorite video ever.
It's nice seeing him enjoying himself. A natural on the drums.
So admire his tremendous talent and such a big heart,---taking time to listen & make music with these terrific young people!
An amazing experience for all of you. I can only imagine the moment for each of you when the realization hit you that the guy in front of you is Kravitz. What a coincidence
This made me so happy. Music in it's purest form. Beautiful, simply beautiful. Thank you

I've just found this almost 4.5 years later but it's AWESOME!
I love you Lenny
Down to beyond earth…..honestly humble…could have stayed on his “ comfortable “ terrace, but NO WAY….
Thanks So Much for being YOU!
Absolutely brilliant, loved that, what a guitar player and singer the young lad with the ponytail is. Just loved his sound and choice of what to play.
The most important performance of this guitarist's life and he killed it. 😊🤘🔥
Guy is a true rockstar. Gets up and handles it. So cool.
just, wow. What a musician and great guy. Those kids are never going to forget that! Kinda feels like Lenny is that band teacher that can sit in and play the heck out of literally any instrument.

Lenny, You are the Man!! Blessing the choir with your presence.
Lenny, this only firms up my belief that you are one amazing musician and that you are The Man! Great guitar work kid!
Gives me chills every time. Lenny and others who do this taking the time to make a memory for these kids that will last a lifetime. That's what it's all about
Lenny IS the bomb! He made all those kids day, week, year. Way to go. Total class.
this has to be the best. the love he has for the students. hats off to you!
He plays all the instruments. We hardly get to see how talented some of these artists really are!! I have goosebumps. How cool and MANY that kid on guitar!! I hope he’s somewhere still playing
Man that kid has a solid voice AND rocks that guitar like a pro. What he doing not making albums and taking names?
Lenny's friend asks for the name at the end, he's Mike Smeaton:
www.modernsoundstudio.com/our-instructors/
"Michael has played with such names as Lenny Kravitz" :D

Magical Lenny on the drum!!!!❤️
Wow Lenny... Love shines!
Wow, what an experience for these choir members! They'll be talking about this for the rest of their lives! Awesome!!
