Stop fluid flow, close off or pinch off line below where bubbles are located so that bubbles are between pinch and fluid bag. Insert large sterile syringe (10mL or larger) with needle into extension port (if there is one attached to main line) or screw on if ports are leur lock safety ports, and draw back until all bubbles have been removed. Then take syringe and insert into port on fluid bag to re-introduce fluid to bag. Re-open fluid line.

I do home IVs with my PICC line due to HG. I get super tiny bubbles that always stress me out and I struggle often with priming the line effectively. I'm no medical professional but I'll try these hacks I'm about to do a treatment

Clamp the t-set at the patient or close the roller-clamp on the line first. If this is not done, the patient may bleed back up the line. Closing the line closer to the patient and then "stripping the line" upwards to move the air back into the bag, will collapse the line between these two clamps. Open the clamp closet to the bag first, then open the one closest to the patient.

Hold the line taught just above the bubbles and flick the line like a guitar string while elevating the line, the bubbles will flow in reverse of gravity (climb the elevation you've made) with each flick.
With this you can work the bubbles all the way to a port or to the end of the line for a quick 0.1ml purge prime or extraction with port access for reinsertion into the bag.

18 Guage needle into the IV line port (assuming you have an extension line added to your primary IV line, this would allow you to have to access ports if need be depending on where your bubbles are) open iv pump clamp and let fluid run till bubbles exit via 18 Guage needle of course some fluid will run so best used for non CRI fluids. Hope that makes sense.

Nice.. but do we need to disconnect the iv line first?
Or is there any need to stop the flow before doing these?

    • @kylebushnell2601

Yeah this is useless because of her simplicity, bout zero elaboration

I believe you'd have to stop the pump cause then the pump will just alarm that there is an occlusion. The point of the hack is so you don't have to disconnect the line.

How about the roller valve? There's none in the clip, but mine has.

I would just attach a 10cc ns syringe, clamp down flow and flush the bubbles up to bag reopen . Hundred ways. You could attach a syringe downstream and suck the air into it as well.
