Was wondering for my 580 and after looking at so many videos just about disassembling the rest of the pen I checked this out. Worked perfectly with my rubber band and... chopstick. No pencils handy. Thank you so much
Thank you for crediting the original video and sharing this great tip with more people. For anyone who is here to clean the cap if a TWSBI Swipe (like me!), it works the same way EXCEPT the inner cap is threaded, so you will need to twist your pencil/chopstick counterclockwise to remove it, and then screw it back in once it is cleaned.
thank you very much for mentioning my video and it is an honor for me to be able to contribute in some way. And continue making your videos I really like it
A life saver to my nerves! I couldn't get the inner part of my TSWBI 580 to dry after a complete soak. It worked wonders, I didn't even have to battle to take it off and put it back on (I actually struggled more with putting the rubber band on the pencil than removing the inner cap 😂). Thank you for sharing this tip, keeps helping people even 2 years after ;)
Thanks for giving me the idea to clean out my eco's cap. Here's a hack: You absolutely don't need to perform the number with the elastic band. I just got out a fairly large sized screw driver to remove the plastic thingie on the inside. The screw driver worked like a charm - I of course did not use any excessive force - and it only took about 2 seconds to perform the operation. 😸
Thanks! I was just copying the method I saw for removing the TWSBI Eco's inner cap, but it sounds you and others have found good alternative methods as well.
The inner cap comes out very easily. I use a wooden chopstick dowel, pencil), insert and gently press, no rubber bands needed. The less pressure the better, so something that fits loosely is a safer option than an elastic wrapped pencil. If the liner is stuck, the eraser end of the pencil will give you enough purchase on the liner to get it out. Inserting requires almost no pressure, so don't make the mistake of ramming it in.
Never mind. It didn’t work on mine. I tried multiple times and it won’t come off. I have a TWSBI Diamond 580. Any suggestions? Or it should work? 😢 Edit: Never mind it worked! Although I used some chopsticks. Didn’t need the rubber band. But thank you so much! 😭 I didn’t want to break it so I never tried lol
I've just come from watching this tip in Down the Breather Hole. Brian gave you credit and I wanted to thank you for it. I love it! So simple and efficient! I'm actually also a bit annoyed and embarrassed I didn't think of it myself 😏😏😏 I used it in my Twsbi mini vac and it worked perfectly. I have a challenge if you are up for it: a cartridge stuck inside the barrel of my Kaweco AL. The position is with its opening towards the nib, as it happened when I closed the barrel with the cartridge not attached enough. It is impossible for me to remove it. I have only used the pen for a month... so I am adamant to give up, yet, nothing up to date has worked. Any ideas?
My other suggestion would be to go to a hardware store and see if they have some long and narrow tweezers or pliers used by plumbers to fish things out of pipes. I've seen long flexible tools that have little claws on the end for grabbing, so that might work.
TWSBI Ecos are famous for their ability to keep the nib wet. Part of this is due to the inner cap. If you use the pen without the inner cap, your nib may dry out even when it's capped.
Thank you so much i’ve had this problem for 2 years now and i’ve been searching everywhere for a solution. You just gained a subscriber for life 😊. ❤❤
Thanks for subscribing! Glad I could help! Let me know if there are other questions or pen problems that I should make videos about!

Glad it worked for you! A chopstick is a great idea. And no pencils on hand must mean you are a die-hard fountain pen user!
@@DowntheBreatherHole well, I did have mechanical pencils, but I questioned if that would work. No wooden pencils, though.
@@JasonReimink yeah, good call!

Have you tried tapping the open barrel of the pen down on the table?

🙂
Why is the inner cap needed in the first place? Can’t we just do without it???

Really helpful thank you!
