  • Which books do you plan on reading in May?
    MAY TBR:
    1. The Love Hypothesis
    2. Brokeback Mountain
    3. The Fault in Our Stars
    4. Along for the Ride
    5. The Notebook
    6. Norwegian Wood
Note: I couldn't think of it at the time, but Psych also has an episode with a MOTOE plot. It takes place in a house during a dinner party when the lights go out for a few seconds!

Loved Brokeback. You looked so disappointed when you noticed the paperback for Along for the Ride. Looking forward to your content.

I really want to read Turtles All The Way Down. I don’t want to read Looking for Alaska for the same reason. 🤣I really liked Paper Towns.

I also felt bummed about Alaska being a person and not the state! I still haven’t read it. Looking forward to your thoughts!

John Green FTW! I don't find him repetitive at all. Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars both deal with death in a way, so there's some overlap of themes, but the plot is unique to each of them. Looking for Alaska is my favorite. *Hint* The cover is highly symbolic of it's theme.
I really liked Paper Towns too. I thought it was cool how he represented the two different worldviews of delayed gratification vs immediate gratification, without picking a side. Personally, I tend to see the world more like Quentin than Margo, particularly with respect to education.
I did laugh a lot of An Abundance of Katherines, but I wouldn't say it's primarily a comedy.
Anyway, totally agree Green is a gem!
Fair warning, Agatha Christie was quite racist from what I hear. It's impressive though how she can, at least some of the time, reveal in subtle ways whodunnit, so if you're paying careful attention, some of the time you can figure it out. I have not read this book but I saw the movie. I feel like it probably works better as a book since a book would give you more time to think about the evidence.
I read one book by Murakami. I can see he has talent, but the plot was super weird and it had some uncomfortable sexual content. I hope you like him though!

I just finished Norwegian Wood and I enjoyed it for the most part. What I disliked most was the pretty ambiguous ending.
I enjoyed MOTOE as well, but it was quite plain, so I don't see myself making her a priority in the future. (As far as her being racist, I can't be surprised... After all, she was born in 1890.)
I didn't enjoy TFIOS that much, but I'm excited to get to the rest, especially Looking for Alaska. I keep hearing good things about it.
